So, Im kind of torn about this one.. About ten minutes walk from the train station is Kaim Park.. It looks kind of old from the outside but nice enough..
Walking into reception there is a dining room and breakfast room on either side at the entrance which are both quite nice and modern.. The dining room opening onto a lounge area which then opens into the bar.. All very chocolate brown leather and nice...
Our room was quite small (even to french standards) but it was relatively clean and had modern furnishings.. The bathroom seemed a little run down and could do with a new floor and shower but apart from that tea making facilities in the room and it was warm...Unfortunately we think the bar was lively as music was thumping through our room until just after 12 on a Sunday night which isnt brilliant...
Breakfast was your usual cold offerings muesli, cheeses, toast, pastries etc.. or the cooked variety.. I ordered scrambled eggs with sausage, my husband sausages, potato scones and a roll and I have to say it was cooked to order and came out really hot and fresh.. In fact I would have to say its one of the best hotel breakfasts Ive ever had.
Service was slow and there seemed to be hardly any staff at all on premises but in March on a Monday morning I guess its not peak season.. All up it made for a little bit of a depressing experience.. I get the feeling they are slowly doing up this hotel bit by bit.. They seem to have a lot of function room available for weddings as well as conference rooms and those rooms looked really pretty..
Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel just had a little bit of a not quite clean enough, a little unloved and sad atmosphere to it.. They have clearly done their best and it is a nice enough hotel its just not quite hitting the mark. It just all felt a little drab, a good spring clean and neating up corners and paintwork, add a little music to the dining rooms for ambience and perking up the staff a little more would give it a better air of professionalism and new lease on life really.. Its a shame really because it has the makings of a lovely hotel and for 3 star its not bad at all...
Im giving it 3 stars myself and thats only because of the breakfast which has dragged it from a 2... Could do better.. read more
