One of the major benefits for me is that they let you borrow a straightener from the front desk. My hair was so grateful!! The rooms are tiny but that's to be expected in Europe! The WiFi wasn't fantastic either but we really didn't need it much.

There is a restaurant in the hotel but there are a LOT of restaurants within walking distance. We had asked for a room with two beds thinking they would be single beds. (Our last experience with hotels in Europe was not a great one. We had a tiny room and a tiny bed,) When we got our room it was bigger than we expected. It had two beds-one was a king and the other a queen. What a nice surprise! There is no air conditioning in most hotels in Europe. With the windows open and a fan I was quite comfortable because the temp was around 60° the three nights we were there. The hubby who likes it much colder said it was bearable. The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. I don't remember if breakfast is included in the price. There is a buffet breakfast or you can order off the menu. The last morning I ordered the smoked salmon, poached eggs, and sourdough toast off the hot menu. It was delicious. Had to have smoked salmon before I left Scotland...wish I would have ordered it sooner. Yummy. Would have given it 4 stars but with the lack of ac and having to climb several sets of stairs before you get to the elevator I'm giving it 3 stars. In all fairness, on occasion I did use the hotel ramp to get into or leave the hotel but that entailed walking through the rain. It did, however, lead you directly to the elevator.

Owned by Sir Rocco Forte since 1997, the building has been completely refurbished and now enjoys a worldwide reputation as a luxury hotel. The hotel is a well-loved landmark which has graced Edinburgh's skyline since 1902 when it began its life as a grand railway hotel. Of course the building has undergone many changes since then but even to this day it still holds a certain magic that has luckily been harnessed and maintained. The famous Balmoral hotel is an iconic feature in the Edinburgh city skyline. With its impressive architecture, famous clocktower, and Scottish flag flying patriotically - it's like a siren that makes you want to see what's inside its walls.

The Balmoral has been hosting royalty, celebrities, and cultural icons for 120 years, but the staff makes everyone feel special regardless who you are. We went back two days in a row because it is such a beautiful space with quality food and cocktails. The design is stylish modern classic with some of the most beautiful glassware I've seen. The cocktail menu hosts a nice variety of wonderful signature and classic recipes. I had the Nutty Professor (photo #2) which was a tasty blend of Bourbon, spiced rum, Cocchi Torino (sweet vermouth), Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur), and black walnut bitters with an orange garnish. It was so good I didn't change it up for my second. The cocktail menu is fun because of its local focus. They use fresh, locally sourced ingredients, reflecting a commitment to quality and a connection to the surrounding Scottish landscape. We loved everything about the experience for our first time visiting Scotland. The Balmoral Hotel and Bar Prince are a must when you visit beautiful Edinburgh. Go there!!! Salute

After some investigation, he declared this was where he wanted to stay. It was in a quiet neighborhood, across the street from a park, away from the noise of the city center, but not too far so that we could still easily call a cab to take us where we wanted to go within a few minutes. What was most surprising was that when we made our reservations, we found that it was actually part of the Best Western hotel chain! It's certainly several steps above most Best Western properties in the United States. The beds were very comfortable, and for an extra £12.50 per night you can get a full breakfast - you can opt for the generous buffet, and you can also order a hot meal made to order in addition to that. The front desk staff was always happy to call a cab for us (and that was our sole means of transportation throughout our stay, so we asked them to do so a great number of times). We never had to wait more than five minutes for one to arrive. We would definitely stay at this property again.

The hotel itself was cozy, and the room was very large! It was incredibly clean, and the bed was SO comfortable. I liked how there was a throw blanket in addition to the comforter, and many pillow options. There were also terry robes, a fridge, and microwave in the room. We were happy to have space to spread out so we did not feel so confined (some hotels when traveling can be very small.) It was across the street from a park, and walking distance to many great restaurants, coffee shops, and of course the tourist attractions. That is what attracted us here, we were able to walk to the Prince's Street Gardens, Edinburgh Castle, Scotland National Museum, Surgeon's Hall Museum, Royal Mile, and they were all a safe/reasonable walk. The only complaint with the hotel was that we did not know there was no air conditioning, and no fan. The windows opened only a few inches, so the first night was incredibly hot and it was hard to sleep. I did not think to even ask if there was air or a fan when we booked... this is the first time I have encountered such a situation in my many years of travel. Everything else was fantastic though, and I would still stay here again, just during a cooler season than the summer. :)

I cannot speak to the hotel itself but I can say the restaurant/lounge there is amazing. It is gorgeously decorated with the mixed vibes of a speakeasy and a botanical garden. Then we had dinner with our group. We were told we only had 2 hours for the table but stayed for longer, so take with that information what you will. My partner and I both got the steak pie and fries. I am not a huge fan of the steak fries that they have in the UK but these were nice and crispy. I had never had a steak pie before but this dish was absolutely delicious! Like a chicken pot pie but with pot roast instead of chicken. I was a bit of a lush at this dinner, so our bill was hefty from the drinks but the price felt very reasonable for the quality of food and surroundings.

It's $65 per person, so definitely more of a treat, but it felt worth it. We started with sandwiches -- about six per person. Delicate flavors, beautifully presented -- they genuinely felt like little works of art. Brand new coats, my wife's toiletries rolling across the street. Of course, No accountability, immediately blamed it on 'colleagues' for loading it 'incorrectly'. picked everything up, got car loaded. I decided to tip him anyways because I worked service once upon a time and handed him a five. Instead of saying 'thank you', he said 'yeah'. Needless to say, his attitude and ungratefulness was unexpected after dumping our possessions into the middle of the sidewalk. My wife went back in to see if they could find a glove the same bell desk lost when they brought our items in for check-in. Same bellhop was completely flippant - "it's Edinburgh, we don't have your glove, anyone could have picked it up". very beautiful hotel, breakfast is excellent, fitness/spa very nice, customer service we received from everyone else was top notch. Will give them benefit of doubt, & probably come again, but might not ask for any more 'help' from bell desk.
