Fortunately all of the chain…read morehotels near the airport were fully booked, so I had to choose this Best Western hotel in about 35 GBP taxi distance from the airport, luckily facing the direction I had to travel the next morning. The hotel has a 24 hour reception, can be found quite easily and also has a restaurant / bar that unforunately is only open till 22:00 in the evening. However they offer reduced room service (sandwiches if I remember correctly) the whole night through. When I came to my room, I was pleasantly surprised. The bed was comfy, the WiFi was free, there was a (small) flat screen mounted at the wall, a cookie and a bottle of water waited for me. The lack of air conditioning was covered by the fact that I could open the window (in my case street facing) the whole night long without any further noise, the bath was modern and seemed to be renovated only recently. The normal problem you have with very loud hotels where you can hear everything from the surrounding rooms was also not given, staff was friendly, room was clean. Not my dream hotel but definatelly amongst the nicer places I've stayed in in the UK so far.

The bar next door is nice- the people friendly the beer is good. The desk folks were helpful. So if you need a utilitarian place to spend a night- this is a safe bet. You won't get gorgeous scenery, but you'll get a night's sleep. Nice big car park.

The Travelodge in Livingston provided the solution, although still more expensive than it should be. Only 20 minutes from the airport the rooms are basic, but clean and the staff is friendly. With Tony Macaroni in the same building the evening before the flight is taken care of.

A recent build, the place has not yet become run down. There is a restaurant attached as well (independent) - however, I didn't eat there, and thus cannot comment on it. The main attraction for me was the shops! Directly over from the hotel was the Livingston shopping centre, a vast mall in the style of Milton Kenyes, or American / Australia. Attached on the side was also a shopping estate containing the usual white-goods / computer sellers such as Currys etc. Given that if you book sufficiently in advance, you can secure a £19 pound double en-suite room (currently 28 days in advance, demand dependant), you could easily book a shopping weekend here, and not even have to worry about parking! (60-odd free places at the hotel, demand dependant, again). With a Marks and Sparks food shop, as well as their rejects clothing outlet in the mall, and loads of other brand names a short walk from the hotel, it'd make a decent Saturday shopping. You could perhaps then try the restaurant out attached to the hotel (it appeared to be trying to be passably trendy) and head on home on Sunday, refreshed, and broke from shopping! Christmas shopping sees the mall open until 9pm (November onwards), and there was a very pretty receptionist there when I stayed there! All good!

Our wedding was amazing and they did everything they could to make sure that it all ran smoothly. They even offered a group booking discount on rooms and meals, for the relatives and friends that were travelling far and wide. Meals are really lovely and you can choose from formal dining, smart casual, by the bar and also to eat by room service. You can get breakfast, lunch and dinner at different prices, depending on the dining style you are looking for.

The hotel is very pleasant and so is the leisure area . Staff are very pleasant and helpful and took great care in explaining the spa area to us . The pool is large and has pleasant views to the outside greenery and surroundings . There is also a steam room and sauna which we re at leisure to use . My only concern was the pool was slightly chilly whereas the steam room was rather too warm . The treatment area is very pleasant and Elemis is the brand of choice for facials etc . The therapists were very pleasant and skilful and I had a lovely facial and shoulder massage . The relaxation room was very comfortable with water and fruit to partake off and plenty reading material . Lunch was a bento box of salad and fruit and yoghurt . The healthy option but more substantial options were available . All in all a pleasant day in nice surroundings
