It's only receiving a three because the suite we have is phenomenal (#11) and the front desk, including concierge is good. now the (really) bad: this is the first virtuoso listed hotel that I would never return to. It's clearly in chaos and decline and that's also supported by talking to long term workers and their frustration the past few years. They need a Gordon Ramsay of hotel management to straighten out many of their obvious problems. the winners: events lodge residents dog owners the losers: traditional 5 star residents A few examples: we arrive after a 5 Hour Dr. around check-in time. Not only was there a huge line and back up to check in, a large marriage party literally did their procession through the front, holding things up at least another 30 minutes. Staff indicated they didn't even know anything about it and they were embarrassed.. then our room was delayed, and as we waited, there was literally a three-way dogfight... Now that's some real ambience right after watching another one scoot his butt across a velour chair. couldn't get dinner reservations... Matter-of-fact we could only get them three days later in advance. Clearly putting the traditional resident last again.. I've seen better local facilities at a two star Marriott. I will say the remote Spa, where the other golf course is more in alignment with a five star, virtuoso listed property( HOWEVER, yep they charge you for it, EXTRA unless you have a spa service. The suite status gets you nothing (except airport transfers) The bars are ridiculous. Literally the largest bar I've seen in the UK, this long stainless steel looking bar... We sat there for 15 minutes as barbacks/bartenders walked in front of us. finally, I ask how can we get service... They said we need to ask a waitress that would then service at the bar. they may as well put big signs on top of the bar, saying no service here! the other bars, although in theory would come up to you, some of the slowest service I've encountered. . In essence for over £1k/night, best case you can wait upto 45 minutes for takeout dinner from the bar (no bags or trays provided) or worse case jump in your car and drive to nearby village. Maybe they now make their profits off of events and an equivalent Chuck E. Cheese and Disney World environment... that's OK, more power to them, but they need to lose their rankings appropriately.

Pillow Cases that didn't fit the pillows. Gross!

Stunning views and the surrounding scenery is breathtaking. First impressions are that you are about to stay at the most amazing 5 Star property. However, don't let the looks fool you! That's where the 5 Stars end abruptly. We booked the Christmas package in one of their luxury suites plus an additional night for a cost of $6000!! We were expecting gourmet dining and a luxury 5 Star service experience. We were severely mistaken. When we first walked into our room we thought it was gorgeous, it even had a Christmas tree and we were blown away. Now I will say the bed was extremely comfortable but the delight ended there. Despite our numerous requests, our bed linens were not changed once during our stay. The pillowcases did not fit the pillows and we had to fold the pillow in half to sleep on a pillowcase. Gross!! Our toiletries were not refreshed at all during the stay. We were left with none. Again, we asked numerous times. The shower only had 1 temperature scalding which was never fixed, despite us asking the front desk and calling maintenance. I had to wash my hair over the bath. The television in the room didn't work properly, it had about 4 channels that worked and when we tried to stream our own content it played in a different suite, again despite numerous requests they didn't ever attempt to fix this. Maybe this all sounds nit-picky but keep in mind we were spending thousands of dollars for a luxurious Christmas experience. Then the "divine gastronomic experience for all foodies" was cold bland buffet food in pots for breakfast, not the sit-down reservation gourmet breakfasts we were led to believe we would experience and had booked reservations for 2 months in advance. Those didn't exist. The "Seafood" restaurant had zero seafood available. In fact, the majority of the menu was not available and the options were limited, to begin with. The food and the customer service were so shockingly bad at Cameron Grill that we ended up walking or taking a taxi to Balloch to eat at the local restaurants for the rest of our stay, (despite our meals being included in our package) If you want stunning views, terrible food, and even worse customer service for high $$$$ then this is your spot. However, we will never go back!

Simply stunning! After a fantastic day out at The Carrick Spa, Lucy B and I headed here for a nice glass of wine to end a perfect day. What can I say, the place is gorgeous and despite only experiencing the bar......whoa!, what a bar!! The Great Scots Bar is a tribute to many great Scotsmen (and women) past and present with lovely large pictures decorating the room and big comfortable chairs and sofas with views across the Loch. With our large glasses of wine, came not one but two trays of nibbles at no extra charge and a chance to take in the splendour of this fabulous hotel. You don't have to go to the expense of a room or a meal here to enjoy the beauty - just come for a drink!! Prices seem no more expensive than other mainstream hotels so it won't cost you an arm and a leg.....unless you hit the whisky bar that is.....!!

Fabulous hotel on the shores of Loch Lomond. It has all the grandeur of the past and is located in a 300 year old mansion. Stay in the main building if you can to experience the luxury of the past. Not a cheap hotel to stay at so expect to pay a lot more than a normal hotel or lodge. They have an excellent leisure centre next to the hotel and you get to use it during your stay. There is also the Carrick Golf course nearby and there are special rates for hotel guests. There is also a hotel spa nearby. The Great Scots bar is an excellent bar in the hotel and the Cameron Grill is also a nice restaurant. Again none of these are cheap. I would happily come here and spend a few days roaming the area and enjoying the luxury of the hotel and its surrounds.

Cameron House has to be one of Scotland's most famous hotels and it isn't hard to see why. This gorgeous hotel is set upon the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond surrounded by some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery. All the rooms and suites available are timeless as they blend Scottish tradition with more contemporary elements. Every room has amazing monsoon showers which you won't ever want to get out of even when your hands go really really wrinkly! There are also huge TVs and ipod docking stations, luxurious complimentary toiletries and huge dark wood beds with Egyptian cotton sheets and cosy tartan blankets. The suites also include separate seating areas, stunning views and a romantic free standing bath conveniently situated right beside the four poster bed, wink wink. There are 4 completely different dining rooms to eat in at Cameron House as well as 2 bars and you really will struggle to decide which area to eat in. There is everything from elegant fine dinning in the Boathouse to more traditional pub grub in the Claret Jug (fancy and expensive pub grub mind!). No matter which dining area you choose you won't be disappointed! I am not a golfer but The Carrick golf course at Cameron House is world famous and I imagine playing amongst such beautiful scenery would be great for anyone who enjoys a round of golf. In fact why don't you men go for a round of golf and us ladies shall spend the day in the world class Carrick Spa at the hotel? The Carrick Spa is absolutely exceptional. I have never been to a hotel located spa which has anywhere near as much to offer as this one. There is a roof top pool, Vishi showers beds, Rasul mud chambers, Infrared saunas, a Tepidarium, an aromatherapy steam room, a hamman steam room, a gym, tai chi , pilates and yoga classes, a hairdressers, a makeup studio, a cafe: the list goes on and on! The staff I came across in all areas of the hotel were extremely polite, friendly and attentive and I can not recommend Cameron House Hotel highly enough.

Great location but disappointing service given that it is supposed to be a 5 star hotel.

Update, I have now sent many emails to head office and still no reply after a month. My Facebook…read morereviews have been taken down? The table was booked, meaning that they did not lose any money in me having to cancel. Shocked at their unprofessional behaviour. Very disappointed, as we have regulars for many years now because of their gluten free menu. We booked a table for next week and had to pay the £10 deposit each. When telephoned I was clearly told that if I cancel 24 hours before I will get a refund on my deposit. I've now been told that you do not get your deposit back! So annoyed at this. Taking advantage of people. I won't be returning or recommending Duck Bay. When you pay your deposit, do not expect to get it back! Shocking service! Update, Duck Bay have removed their Facebook page with my reviews. Shame on them. This is my email to head office. I had a booking made for 4 people on the 31st December 2025. Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, this had to be cancelled. I gave 6 days notice, giving you plenty of time to rebook the table. I have in the past cancelled and not been charged. The deposit is to be taken on the day of the booking, and not taken in advance as it had been on this occasion. There is no clear cancellation policy online. On your policy, nowhere does it state a cancellation charges or time limits on cancellation? I did call Duck Bay and was informed that a deposit would be returned if cancelled 24 hours prior. Friends and neighbours have also always had their deposits returned if cancelled before 24 hours. I did ask to rebook and was told that I would need to pay another £40 deposit? I have checked online and there is no availability for a table at 5pm today. You have made no loss and are legally obliged to return my deposit of £40. I am deeply disappointed at the way this matter has been handled. Me and my family are local and regularly visit Duck Bay. After this experience I will not be returning. You clearly do not care much about your existing customers. I will also be writing reviews on our poor experience. Under the Consumer Rights Act you can only withhold a deposit to the extent that it is fair compensation for any losses or inconvenience they incur due to the cancellation. If you easily rebook the table, you're likely owed most or all of it back, as UK consumer law requires fair terms, and keeping a deposit for a minor loss is unfair. Fair Terms: A business can only keep a deposit if it's a fair term, covering their actual losses, not just to make a profit. A week's notice is usually enough time for a popular restaurant to rebook, meaning actual loss might be minimal, making it unfair for you to keep the whole deposit.

Many moons ago this place was a regular haunt at the weekend; Raffles lounge on the right hand side…read moreof the hotel, so it was nice to visit it again, several years since I last set foot inside. The layout is as I remember, although the glass 'conservatory' has now been fully converted to a roofed extension, and it's definitely more geared to families having dinner than rowdy student nurses (c'mon, why do you think I drank there!). I was meeting my family, my sister was already there so I ordered a latte when I arrived whilst we waited for my parents. It arrived quickly, so quickly it was still a bit separated looking, with the milk and coffee layers very evident through the tall glass. Tasted ok though as far as latte's go. Once everyone had arrived we moved onto the food. I ordered the New York Burger which came with chorizo, pepperoni and BBQ sauce, topped with two onion rings, and with a side of fries and some coleslaw. Pretty standard stuff. What I got was a bit of a mixed bag. The onion rings were thin and greasy, the burger patty was pretty tasty, with a nice char and was definitely handmade. Things got a bit odd when it came to the chorizo and pepperoni, both were chargrilled, but one (the chorizo I'm guessing from the size) was a few thinly sliced pieces, where as the pepperoni was one slice, about 1.5cm thick and the same diameter as the burger, in essence it was a bit like eating a pepperoni burger... which SOUNDS awesome but is really just a chewy chewy challenge!! The fries were ok, served in one of those stupid little metal mesh baskets, and the coleslaw was probably bought from a supermarket. Round the table the portions all proved to be large, and reasonably tasty but nothing stood out for anyone. Portions over flavour and attention to detail perhaps? I'll leave it to others to find out.

The food its self is a bit of a hit or miss, one day it can be lovely and then the next its like standard 'pub grub'. Service is a little slow, this seems to be the case whatever time of day or no matter how quiet the dining area is. However staff are always friendly. In the evenings it has a lovely relaxed ambiance and a wide range of drinks on offer...though a little pricey.

We stopped in on a rainy afternoon for some lunch in October of last year…read more We checked in and then were seated by the fireplace and brought menus. We opted for a burger for Morgan, and a steak and haggis pie for me, with sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Service was polite, and pretty quick. The only minor complaint we had was when Morgan ordered a whisky that he could clearly see on their bar, they had no clue what he was asking for. The food was phenomenal. The burger was really tasty and cooked well, and the steak and haggis pie...I could eat that every day of my life, it was that good. If you're in the area and looking for a good spot to enjoy some really tasty food, I highly recommend the Loch Lomond Arms. If we find ourselves back in Scotland, I will absolutely eat here again.

Stayed in Luss for four nights. After having dinner here the first night we decided to dine here…read morethe other nights as well. Staff is friendly and helpful. There's plenty of tables - but be sure to make a reservation, on weekend it's full. Menu has some really good options on it. And then there are daily specials. Inside it's a nice pub/restaurant. Very comfy and cosy. Our English Bulldog was welcome as well. Then they got a nice selection of drinks at the bar with lots of different and also local whisky. We very much enjoyed the Loch Lomond brand. Here's what we had: Pot of Mussels - very nice and very fresh Cheese plate - nice selection of scottish cheeses Haggis with sides - the BEST haggis I've had so far; fantastic 1/2 dozen Oysters - amazingly great oyster; really a must-order homemade terrine - very enjoyable, but not the best starter on the menu Sunday Roast set menu (once with ham, once with lamb) - quite good, but the meat a bit dry Haggis balls - my favorite starter, could eat these all day every day Cured salmon - sadly not that great Steak Pie - a good choice; hot, crispy and creamy Burger and fries - a very nice, fresh burger; good quality meat Fish'n'Chips - very nicely done, fresh and crispy...and stays crispy to the end All in all they got a really good menu. What's standing out seafood-wise are the amazing oysters and wonderful mussels. Meat-wise it's definitely the delicious Haggis - as a starter or main. Equally great. Surely a place to come back to one day. We enjoyed it.

The commodore…read more Situated right across form the foreshore the commodore can be an amazing place in the summer months as they have a massive beer garden situated at the front of the hotel where you can sit of or hours enjoying the scenery. This is very much a Toby carvery type place where you can buy a cheap breakfast in the summer months and your Sunday roast in Sundays. Good selection of beers, and wine at the bar, with the food being reasonably priced you feel as if your on a winner. I had come with another Yelper for an easy cheap lunch that consisted of burgers, calamari & garlic bread. The burgers where descent and tasty, calamari tasted very anchovy, years back in the food trade this was a trick go make it taste fresher. Cost per head was £22.00 including drinks. Overall good place for drinks, food is a little on the expensive side .

The Commodore Hotel…read more Situated toward the west end of Helensburgh's waterfront, The Commodore Hotel nestles in a block of the residential area. It's the absence of surrounding shops and the presence of some greenery that help give The Commodore a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere whether you're out in the beer garden or in the sizable bar/restaurant area. Having never stayed in the hotel itself, I can't review the quality of the rooms here, but I've attended events in the large function suite and it's a pretty good venue for say, a large party or a small wedding reception. It is deep within the centre of the building, though, so if you were hoping for a view or some evening sun streaming in then you'll have to look elsewhere. In the main restaurant & bar area, the horse shoe shaped bar itself isn't particularly large considering the number of drinks to be served, and it's here that the cracks start to appear in the makeup of the place. On a busy weekend night it can be a challenge to get served, but fortunately this isn't a factor if you're there midweek to enjoy the selection of lagers and ales on offer. As a real ale pub, The Commodore tries its best, with the ever-present Deuchars IPA being joined with a revolving cast of decent ales that are reasonably well kept. A member of the bar staff attempted to pull me a pint of Purity's UBU with a sparkler on the pump nozzle recently. After failing to do so, he took the sparkler off and mentioned that he "wouldn't be able to put a head on it" for me. It's real ale - it doesn't need a Stella-esque head on it, but that this was lost on the barman somewhat betrays the fact it's a chain pub serving real ale, as opposed to an establishment that's truly nailed the CAMRA flag to its mast. Still, there's nowhere else in town that has as good a selection of ales, so it seems petty to complain about how the bar staff are serving it up. On that note, the demeanour of the bar staff has quite a range in it. From upbeat, polite and friendly to cold and detached - it's a bit of a lottery. This isn't so much a factor when you're in for a few beers, but if you've come for some food it hardly helps things go with a swing if you end up being served by Mr or Mrs Roboto. Can't help but think a few of them need a trip to charm school. The food itself is good, but maybe a little pricey depending what you go for. I recently ordered a pâté & toast starter that turned up with a generous serving of pâté to go with what amounted to two slices of toast. Why are they scrimping on toasted bread, yet serving it with enough delicious pâté that I had enough to spread on both sides of the toast *and* the plate? It wasn't cheap, either - but one more slice of toast would have made it feel more balanced and better value, so it just seemed stingy to me. Another time I had a fantastic grilled chicken dish for lunch in the coffee bar side of The Commodore. It was so good that when I was in a couple of weeks later I asked if it was possible to have it as a main dish in the evening. The member of staff I asked retorted that it was a lunchtime dish and not on the menu. That kind of response is defensive at best, but bordering on rude - I only asked, for goodness sake! And that's why I can only give a potentially four star venue a meagre three stars. The Commodore has all the ingredients of what should amount to a great place to drink and dine, but whatever it is that turns a run of the mill place into somewhere special just seems to be missing.
