Really wanted to like this place. I got Gel-X and for one, I felt like there was a lot of product used to apply the nail making the UV light processing very hot (more than normal). I also feel that the tech went too far on my cuticles and I'm now left with a bleeding finger. Everyone was very friendly but I would suggest going a little easier during cuticle removal. read more

She also has fixed a couple of nails when I popped them off before it was time for a new set which I've appreciated. Great staff and they always do something a little extra once you've been a couple of times to show they value you as a costumer. I am giving this business 1 extra star because ONE of the five the staff members was very kind. The pedicure chairs & tubs were dirty - hair and dirt visible. I was the only client for 2 hours and the young man who was helping me acted like it was such an inconvenience to wipe off the seat. The pedicure was very sub par- everything just felt dirty. There was nail polish on the "clean" towels that I put my feet on & even on the warm towels during the pedicure had stains. The no chip manicure was OK. My nails were pretty bad to start, but I ended up with two bloody fingers by the end. Nothing was improved with my cuticles. One of the worst experiences I have had in or out of the city. read more

I was visiting the town and wanted to look perfect to see my long-lost friends. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go to my hometown salon before I travel, so my nails looked terrible. Luckily, I was able to make same day appointment and the lady (I didn't catch her name) was great. She took her time and did an amazing job. I paid $55 for dipping powder and it's still looking great after 3+ weeks. I REALLY appreciate that they were still able to accommodate my request in short advance notice and made me feel great during my vacation in Chicago. Olga G. gave me a great facial today! It was my first time ever getting one and I'm really glad I did. I found this salon through Groupon and booked an hour European facial for $45. I made an appointment Thursday and they were able to schedule me in the following Tuesday. If it's your first time here, you have to fill out a paper and then the facial rooms are located in the back of the salon. Olga G. (There's two) was really good at telling me what I needed to do to improve my skin but at the same time complementing the good things. The facial starts with a massage to relax you before she squeezes everything out and makes you cry lol. After the extraction, you get a face mask and she asks which scents and what kind of mask you would like. I hate leaving these types of reviews but my experience here has been so painful that it needs to be shared to protect others. I had an aesthetician perform a microdermabrasion on me for a birthday gift provided by wife. I've never had anything like this before other than my wife telling me it was a great means to "rejuvenate" the skin from weathering and fine lines so I went in with no assumptions or insight. What resulted? I left the Spa with bright red streaks cascading my forehead vertically and horizontally. The aesthetician explained this was normal, that it would subside in 24 hours, despite my shock at how any person would tolerate such unsightly marks for any length of time. It's now four days later and I am still healing, visible red abrasive streaks remain, and I have to explain to coworkers what happened. Birthday events and pictures totally RUINED, I even went back to the Spa to speak to the manager and was told to "come back in 30 minutes". Seriously? Look at my face. I mean come on. Because here is the thing: A person's face is a massive part of their presentation and their identity, which means it is incredibly important to who they are, and necessitates that the upmost care and accommodation be given by the aesthetician and management. I received neither and for this reason am disgusted. Consider yourself informed. read more

I come to this spa for waxes and massages, the waxes are always great/quick and the spa itself is very clean and well managed. I like to get massages monthly because my lower back gets stiff sometimes and Kinzie Lacquer Spa has provided me a convenient and affordable way to do so (I purchase their massages through Groupon for a discounted rate). The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because not all of the massage therapists are great. I recommend going with Michelle if you do go, she knows what she's doing and uses legitimate massage techniques to address any areas of pain/stiffness/tension you may have. I've had horrible massage experiences in the past so it's very important to have an experienced/licensed therapist that knows what they're doing. read more

Had a wonderful massage, the therapist was attentive and allowed me to extend my 30 min to 60 min during the session. She had a great skill set. My only concern was that I specifically asked prior to booking for unscented oils due to my migraines. The therapist confirmed that the oil was "unscented organic oil" It was heavily perfumed. I asked to get it changed, she stated it was unscented but with lavender etc. Again, I asked and she told me I was very sensitive. She also tried aromatherapy which I asked for her to immediately stop as I felt a headache coming on and had her leave the room with the oils and to wash her hands. I ended up with a migraine after the massage that is going on 12 hrs. The massage unfortunately was not relaxing for me because it was hard to take deep breaths due to the heavily scented oil and feeling nauseated and sick. I would be interested in coming back if the oils and the rooms are unscented, otherwise I unfortunately cannot. read more

Longest lasting no-chip I've had in Chicago! I went in a few months ago randomly because my usual place didn't have availability and I am not a loyalist. At first I thought I just got lucky but I am on my third no-chip from them and 3/3 have lasted over 3 weeks, I only ever went back because it was growing out, not because it chipped or peeled. I've always arrived on time. I've been coming here for years. I was late once (drove from the far south side and I got caught in construction traffic in the downtown area and rerouted to a stop further away (Ohio street exit). I arrive 10 minutes late. Tom would not take me. I was truly upset because I had a memorial service to attend the next day. But, they didn't care or take me or offer a reduced type of service. I came back the next day on my lunch break. No, I didn't go to Tom. I still gave the salon a five at the time. HOWEVER!!!! I change my review. Here's why: Why does the salon think it is appropriate to ask an Africa American already getting a service to come back another day to accommodate another customer who just arrived? Won't bring up the race difference, but it's typical. I've been coming here for years, the new owners do not hold the same values as before. A dear friend recommended this place when she worked here. She's no longer here but I continued to come. But, unfortunately, the principle of the matter outweigh the action. I'm not sure why this place has so many positive reviews. This is why I question Yelp reviews, in general... but the service was unquestionably mediocre. I had to coach the manicurist through the pedicure because I noticed she was trying to cut corners. I pointed out that she forgot cuticles and her response was "Don't worry about it" (Um, no ma'am!) The overall energy in the place felt like a dead zone. No refreshments were offered (there was a sad, empty Ozarka water jug in the corner). Decor, furniture, sinks, all shabby. My first massage chair didn't even work so I had to switch chairs. Wet feet and all! I felt so bad for the lady next to me because her nails were damaged from gel manicures. She kept asking her manicurist for a recommendation so that she could preserve her nails and all the girl did was repeat the last thing the lady said. The conversation went back and forth for 15-20 min like this-- "Should I get a regular manicure? (Her) Regular manicure. (Response). Or should I get a no-chip manicure because regular manicures chip? (Her) No-chip (response). I'm confused are you recommending I get no-chip? (Her). You want No-chip? (response) Ok, I guess I'll get no-chip if that's what you recommend. It BLEW my mind. Is it that hard to listen to your customer and make a recommendation? The customer was super nice; just confused. I felt so bad for her. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU GET NO-CHIP!! Or really just don't go here in general. I went here for a no-chip mani and regular pedicure when my normal place was booked. I should have known it wasn't going to be great when there was literally one other customer in the entire place on a Saturday afternoon. I've moved around a lot, so I've seen a lot of different techniques and things in nail salons. The man who did my manicure wrapped and soaked my nails for five minutes and then proceeded to PEEL my no-chip off and FILE THE TOP LAYER OF MY NAILS OFF. I was cringing the entire time. I then asked him to trim my nails down a little, but keep the same shape. He proceeded to only file them and clearly was confused by my classic almond shape because he filed them into an oval shape. At this point, I didn't even argue, I just wanted out of the place as quickly as possible. This place overall didn't seem dirty, but kind of messy and old, but when I put my hands under the gel light I almost threw up. The spots where my finger tips sat were black and grimy/sticky feeling. It was so disgusting! They must not clean them because it was clearly buildup from multiple people. I also told him it was my first time there and he spoke maybe two words to me the entire appointment. My no-chips normally last 3 weeks. My mani and pedi looked ok after he was done, but not great, and they looked horrible after just one week. I went back to my normal place two weeks later and my manicurist was shocked and asked what happened to my nails. It's been a month and a half and they're still incredibly thin from him peeling and filing them. Also, I lost a card while I was there, called 10 minutes after I left and no one picked up. I was called back fairly quickly and explained what I had lost. The woman told me they were busy and she could look for the item when they closed 6 hours later. Again, there was *at most* one other customer in the salon the entire time I was there. I asked if she was able to check now, or if she had even noticed it on the floor. She replied that she would check at close and hung up without asking for my name or phone number. As you can guess, I never heard back. read more

So today I went to Kinzie Lacquer Spa for the first time since we went into shelter-in-place and I had a wonderful experience! First and foremost, they were VERY sanitary. Every employee had on masks, gloves AND PPE! They also had the plasti-glass (not sure the proper spelling for that) protective dividers at every social-distanced station. I felt very safe, and attended to! Secondly, Ella did a wonderful job with my nails. She was very diligent and tedious, and she had a knowledge of the product - as she helped me pick out a color based off of whatever name I remembered it as (if you get Funny Bunny, you know what I mean by this). There were also some added touches to her manicure and pedicure that I thought were very nice and were very needed after how long it's been since I've been to the nail salon. Finally, I can't rave enough about how great her dip nails were! Usually I have gotten them done at nail salons on the north side and the outer edges of my dip nails will get caught in my hair as I run it through (if you've had a poor dip nail experience, you probably know what I'm talking about!). Ella did a WONDERFUL job blending in the edges of my dip nails and they look awesome! Very worth the price! I will 100% be returning here in the future! read more

Great services for a surprisingly low price! I had a no chip manicure and regular manicure awhile back, and wanted to wait to review to see the quality. The no chip manicure lasted 3 weeks without chipping! My regular pedicure also lasted around the same, because I don't tend to walk around barefoot a whole lot. I can't believe the paraffin wax and hot stones come with the pedicure! Normally I'd be paying more at other salon- an additional $5-$15, but not here. I made an appointment for 5pm on a Sunday. At around 4:10pm, I received a call from the location letting me know they were running behind and could I come in at 5:30. I then received a text that said to come in at 5:15pm. I was a bit confused at the mixed message but arrived at the salon at 5:17. When I checked in I told them I had an appointment at either 5:15 or 5:30. The gentleman looked at me and said I was late and was supposed to be here at 5. I showed him both the text message and voicemail transcript, but he didn't seem to care and told me someone else had scheduled an appointment right after me. They could no longer take my appointment because someone else had scheduled something after me. Based on this I won't ever return or recommend this place to anyone. I know this is weird and I normally would never do this but... I bought a GROUPON for a FACIAL at a NAIL SALON. I know. But it was the best facial I've gotten in Chicago. The check in process is weird and it definitely feels slightly sketch but do it anyway. I just got a normal facial so I can't speak to lasers or microderm. I used to get my nails done here a lot. They don't have very many dip colors and it was more expensive than other salons but they do go the extra mile with shoulder massages and hand masks so I kept coming back. I treated my partner to a Microderm Abrasion Facial for his birthday! Then I felt awful because he came out of it with severe red & purple lines criss-crossing across his forehead. He was reasonably alarmed, but we were told it would fade in 24-48hrs. Unfortunately, we had to cancel birthday plans and stay cooped up at home in order to away from the sun all birthday weekend. Needless to say he was very depressed and embarrassed having to go into work the following Monday with his face messed up. We are now going on 11days 'post op' and the marks are still present. Thankfully, they are fading and they now finally look like old acne scars (on a face which previously had none). 3 days after the facial, we went into the shop. Not only did we want our money back, but we wanted to show what occurred to ensure this could be prevented for others coming in. The staff did not seem to care. I offered to discuss what went wrong further and they said they would call. I have not heard from them. I agree with my partner that the face is a precious focal point and must be carefully and meticulously worked with. We advise everyone to learn from our mistake and stay far away from this place. Side Note: After scheduling the appointment, we were told there was no need to purchase the groupon as they would automatically give us the groupon price. Very cute nail salon with nice workers, however, my manicure did not last long at all. I came here for the first time last week and got a dip manicure. Typically dip stays on my nails for up to 2 / 2.5 weeks but this manicure started to come off the following day.
