Exceptional quality tailoring, and fast! I normally do not take time to write reviews, but Emel went above and beyond, and I can not say enough about my experience with Kingston Tailor Shop. I needed a dress enlarged in the back/thorax area, and I knew that it would be a tricky fix. I had initially brought my dress to another tailor in the area, but I was told that it was a complicated repair, and that they were too busy to accommodate me. So I tried Kingston Tailor Shop. Emel was kind and incredibly efficient--- she enlarged my dress, hemmed it, and pressed it, and it was ready in 24 hours. She worked late into the night to fix it, and didn't even charge extra for the rush. I got the feeling that she truly loved sewing, and she saw this dress project as a challenge. She did an amazing, professional job, and you can't even tell that the dress has been altered - it looks perfect. And she charged me a very reasonable price. I was distressed to find numerous moth holes in 4 tailor-made suits. I called other tailors. Their recommendation was to throw them out or donate them. I found Emel who told me she would do her best to restore them. The result exceeded my best expectations. Most holes were unnoticeable, and a couple, only upon very close inspection. Terrible experience here - I brought one dress in with the request that it be taken in a little at the side seams. I made it clear that it was a dress for a wedding, and I would be traveling abroad for it, so I needed it in a timely manner. The seamstress told me that she can have it done in a week (completely on her own timeline, I did not try to push her to get it done faster), which truly should have been more than enough time, and was perfect for my needs. She also gave me a quote for approximately how much it would cost ($60-$80), and I watched her write on her calendar when she would have it done, and when I would be leaving the country for the wedding, to remind herself it needed to be prioritized. When I called to see if I can come pick it up (the day after she initially told me it would be ready), I was told it was not ready yet, and I would have to come in the following night to get it. Annoying, but I understand that sometimes things come up. When I finally heard from her the following night, after getting her voicemail twice, she told me it was not done yet, but she would work all night to make sure it was done, and I could even get in the morning. I called her in the morning and got her voicemail again, so I left a message stressing that I needed to pick up my dress that day (this is now Tuesday when it was supposed to be done on Saturday, and she marked on both her calendar and her order slip that I was leaving on Wednesday). She called me back about two hours later, letting me know it would be done in another hour or two. Fine, I wouldn't be able to get it until after work anyway, at this point. I told her I would see her around 5:30. When I came in at 5:30, she told me she was still finishing up... No apology for the EXTENSIVE delay, basically making excuses that she didn't know it was going to be so difficult because of the boning... But she could tell there was boning in the dress when I brought it in, she even commented that first day that it was strange that there was no boning in the side seam, which is the only place I needed it taken in, anyway, so I don't really understand how that could have taken her by surprise, or caused so many complications. She also took the hanger straps off of the dress (which was strapless), which is an issue since I need to hang it to prevent wrinkles. The dress turned out fine, but I cannot possibly give her more than one star, especially since she ended up trying to charge me more than what was initially quoted to me, despite being extremely late on delivery. I would have completely understood if she was transparent with me and had given me a call when she realized it would take her more time to get it done than she thought, but with the constant promises that it would be done tomorrow and it consistently wasn't ready, it all felt like excuses to try to squeeze extra money out of me and her trying to give me a "reason" for it being so late, even though she assured me she would have it done with plenty of time when I first brought it in. If she was too busy, she should have let me know. I wish I had a better experience here, especially since I picked them specifically because of the positive reviews I saw, but I will not be returning this shop, and unless you are willing to put up with potential for days worth of delays AND an increase in price, I do not suggest you do, either. read more

I had read about this place is great & all that. My experience was exactly opposite. I went in with 5 jackets & immediately one the owner greeted, announced that the co-owner who happens to be her husband is going out of country in few days. Also she made sure that I know how much it's for each type of repair/alteration is going to cost, it was in no way cheeper than big box store tailor shop. I felt that she was concerned weather I can pay or not At that point I walked out with making an excuse that I forgot to bring in my dress shirt & slacks for proper measurement. A real gem of a place! I came across this shop after scouring the whole surrounding Princeton area for a REAL tailor shop, not one of those dry cleaner-tailor combos. The lady who runs this is very gregarious and welcoming but more importantly she does an amazing job with her alterations. I used to have an expensive tailor in Manhattan who used to take 2-3 fittings to get my pants fitted right but at Kingston she gets them right on the first try, which is great for me as its a 20 minute drive for me each way! I take my clothing and tailoring very, very seriously and if you do too don't hesitate to bring your goods here. I've been at least 5-6 times in the past 9 months and been happy with every visit. read more

I don't understand the good reviews for the Kingston Tailor Shop. Several years ago my wife took a jacket there requesting that the tailor shorten the sleeves. My wife put the jacket on and the tailor only put 2 straight pins in the sleeve to know where to sew it. As my wife was removing her pinned jacket, one of the straight pins had pulled out a little and; my wife later told me that she was a little concerned that the straight pin was in place properly since their tailor only pinned the jacket in two spots. Also if that straight pin pulled out, it would have only been pinned with one pin. But, my wife, not wanting to insult the tailor, figured that their tailor should know what she was doing. When my wife picked up her jacket, the sleeves were way too short. She didn't discover this fact until she arrived home with the finished jacket. By then my wife was out the cost of the jacket and the alteration. And her jacket was then too short to wear. read more
