    Braised Oxtail with Jasmine Rice

Wow! I am so glad to see something unique and special in Pittsboro. There is nothing else like this anywhere close! Advertising as authentic Jamaican food, this was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Braised Oxtail with Jasmine Rice, with a side of Plantains and the Salted Fish Eggrolls. First, the braised oxtail is phenomenal. Super tender and incredibly flavorful. The plantains were a nice, sweet compliment. But I have to take a moment to talk about the eggrolls. I know it as bacalao, but never had it in an egg roll. It was slightly salty, super savory, and the mango pico on the side was a perfect add-on. I will be going back ALOT! Top notch for sure!!

We stopped into the outdoor food hall, The Plant, to grab a drink and get some lunch. I did not expect to find a super legit Jamaican food spot in the middle of nowhere in North Carolina. I've lived in South Florida my entire life and had all kinds of Caribbean food from Jamaican to Haitian, Dominican, etc. And I can tell you this is one of the most authentic Jamaican food spots that I've ever been to. They make everything fresh - even the beef patties! Which is rare to find. The rice and peas were amazing and tasted home cooked. The jerk sauce on the wings was beyond delicious and was just the right amount of heat! My favorite by far was the beef patty - I've only ever had them preheated and having one freshly fried was a game changer. Topped everything off with an ice cold Ting - haven't had one of those in years. Kingston 99 Kitchen is a 10/10 recommend for me and surely worth coming out of your way for!

The food was great. This is a hidden gem, if you want some great food, great atmosphere. First time going and i was very impressed with the oxtails and plantains. Rice and beans were also delicious. Will be back and I am telling everyone I know about Kingston 99 Kitchen. The young man that took my order, was so nice and he really made me feel welcome. Help me with some of the choices of food.

Food tasted good but their prices are high especially when the portions sizes are so small.

The chicken is dark meat served on the bone - and by on the bone, I mean falling off the bone, it's so tender and moist. There are also some carrots and potato bits in the gravy, and I would happily eat a whole bowl of just those. The rice and peas (beans) were perfectly cooked. When I ordered through the Toast tab screens they have set up, it gave the option of indicating whether and how much gravy you'd like on the rice. I did the standard amount, which I think is just right, as the rice balances out the saltiness of the gravy. The mac & cheese was also really good - creamy, with some chewy baked cheese crust, and a hint of tanginess. The large portion was a ton of food. I shared my plate with my toddler, who loved the chicken, and it would be enough for at least one more meal. I also got a chicken patty, which had a curried chicken filling that brought a bit of heat. Too spicy for little kids, but not so spicy that I was hurting from eating it. We ate in the restaurant, which is clean with several tables. It's counter service, and it seems like they pack everything as if it's to go, even if you dine in. For folks with kids, they do have a single high chair. I don't remember seeing a changing table in the ladies room.

Let me tell you, nothing about this place was unassuming or basic... IT WAS INCREDIBLE. From the service (warm , helpful & friendly) to the perfectly cooked food. We were impressed! Best curried goat I've ever eaten and the jerk chicken is done as it should be! Whether you get the rice and peas or the yellow rice, you can't go wrong bc both were fantastic and full of flavor. The collard greens had SO MUCH FLAVOR, I could eat a big bowl by itself! We can't wait to come back and get the oxtails and some other menu items, I think we will be very happy with anything they cook here!

We had to wait around 15min but the food was pretty good. We wish there was a little more seasoning to add flavor but overall it was good food and worth the price. Ever since trying some amazing ones in California and Florida, we've been on the lookout for something that hits that same note--and we may have found a solid contender. Out of the many food trucks selling empanadas, The Rican Lab stood out. Their empanadas didn't disappoint. The crust was just right--crispy, not greasy, and not overly doughy. I didn't get any of that lingering cooking oil taste, which is a huge plus. I went with the beef empanada, while my husband tried the buffalo chicken. The beef had good flavor, but it could have used a binding agent--maybe cheese or sauce--to hold everything together. It felt a bit loose, so I imagine the beef and cheese version would have had better structure. I also think using shredded or chunked beef might work better than ground beef for a more satisfying texture. The buffalo chicken empanada was the real winner--well-seasoned with just the right kick. Neither empanada was dry or overly saucy, but both could benefit from a solid dipping sauce to round them out. We also grabbed a cherry lemonade, which was wonderfully refreshing. It hit a perfect balance--not too sour, not too sweet, and just tart enough. Bonus points for the generous serving size--it definitely felt worth the price. Beyond the food, the event itself was an amazing experience. There were food trucks representing a variety of cultures--Laotian, Filipino, Greek, and more. The diversity of choices was exciting. On top of that, local performers added to the festive atmosphere with live music and dancing. All in all, the Raleigh' Annual International Food Truck Festival is a must-visit. If you're on the hunt for good eats and good vibes, this is the place to be. We're already looking forward to our next visit--and the next round of empanadas.
