Last Saturday, I bought a 15 gallon Eureka lemon and a 15 gallon Mexican lime. The 15 gallon trees were bigger and healthier looking that the trees in 23" boxes at other nurseries. I planted the trees today and they are beautiful. I couldn't be happier. You won't find trees this nice anywhere else. Before visiting, I couldn't help but notice a number of negative reviews. What I noticed is that the bad reviews were from people who didn't buy trees. The folks who bought trees were happy. My tip is to decide what you want before you go. If you have time look elsewhere. The owner is crazy, pretty much kicked me out not allowing me to get the 2 15gal citrus tree i came for and chose on the lot because even though I said absolutely nothing negative about the tree he said I didn't like them?! And that he doesn't sell to people who don't know anything about trees. I had just asked why they don't have a lot of leaves and he said it's either leaves or fruits (yet the lime tree had pretty much neither). I said ok, hummm can I just get the lemon tree? He said no I have to take both that the price he gave me was for both even though he never mentioned that. I had just asked for availability and prices. I asked for the price of just the lemon and it was almost double so said ok and chose a lime tree. Said it was for a gift for my husband so wanted the wow factor. He didn't let me finish and told me he didn't want to deal with my husband and literally walked away. I caught up and said no I'm paying, no issue from my husband and again cut me off while walking away saying no got get your tree somewhere else. I apologized saying that maybe I didn't expressed myself properly, English isn't my first language and he just said no you didn't like the lime tree and now you talking about your husband byeee at that point we were back at my car. Well that was weird... and not in a good way. Actually kind of in a dangerous way. This is a non-licensed nursery in a residential neighborhood of Vista. The whole set up was kind of a bit off and I should have known better. When I arrived (at his house) he offered to let me park in his driveway which I did, he then proceeded to walk off without even a hello. NP... I walked around a little before I hear him coughing loudly and screaming about my truck being a "POS". I have an old Ford truck. Something about smog... I ignored it because my truck was off and I wasn't sure what he was talking about. He said "let's get you a plant and get you the F-out of here" I asked if I had offended him. He just abruptly told me to "F-off and leave." Well ok then... BEWARE the owner clearly suffers from some kind of mental health issue. The scary part is I realized I'm on the guys property. Kingmans's had a great selection of Avocado and Fruit trees. I bought a nice Reed and Fuerte, and the Haas was 8 feet tall in a 15-gallon container! It's well worth finding this hidden gem - a couple all the way from East county was there when I visited. Aside from great plants, John, the owner, had great advice on the planting process. It turns out, he's 4th generation doing this, lives there(40 years!), and, not that it matters, but is a PhD in Electrical Engineering! DONT GO HERE!! I would give negative stars if I could. It's started by me calling around to different nurseries on a Sunday. Even though some nurseries were open for business, nobody seemed to answer the phone. I called Kingmans AvoCitrus nursery I believe twice, nobody answered I figured they were busy so I hung up the phone. I called back to try an reach someone (before I realized they were closed on Sunday) and this time I listened to the voicemail, John the owner of Kingman leaves his cell number to call. I called it and no answer so I text some questions about some trees he has listed on an ad on Craigslist stating that he has Lime trees 15gal for $77.50. He responded to my text stating the price was $195. TOTAL BAIT N SWITCH!!! BEWARE. Obviously, I asked why the large discrepancy in price and he sends me a stock text back. I asked again and got the same stock text that had nothing to do with my questions I had. For example; how tall are they and are they currently bearing fruit. This morning out of nowhere I received a text littered with profanities and other foul language (see attachment). I did a little research and turns out this John Kingman character is a complete psychopath, numerous complaints about the BAIT N SWITCH and him screaming at customers. His nursery isn't taken care of, his stock is all dying or in poor health. I think he's a sad man because the nurseries around him are far superior to his nursery. DO YOU WANT TO BE YELLED AT? I Just bought three trees on Monday and couldn't be happier. This guy is the real deal- no frills or silly up charging for fancy additions. He has beautiful healthy plants with big fruit and it is clear John really knows his stuff. I drove 2 hours to get a "fruiting avocado" and he gave me a screaming deal for 3 actual FRUITING trees (Avo, Peach, Apple). Oh and they are big! I'm impressed we got them in the jeep. He also gave me samples of fruit from his other trees, which was fun, I couldn't hold them all :) I only wish I could have fit more in the Jeep! Will definitely be driving back to buy more trees in the future, and am so thankful for his smart, invaluable advice on my tree care. He was very helpful and fair to me and I felt like I was visiting a friend. I've been telling everyone about this place! This was the worst and strangest service I have ever received in my whole life. Drove 35 minutes to get here and was quickly chased off after weird encounter with owner. After confronting him about his false advertising on craigslist about 15 gallon plants being $75 he quickly became irate and agitated and I was a little shaken and concern for my wife's safety. He swore over and over and laughed like a maniac as we quickly exited the premises. He told us to get out and go to Home Depot. Avoid this place like the COVID-19. I found this place on Craiglist and want to get some fruit tree so I be there to check it out. The trees and plants didn't look heathy and it look so dry. Owner share that he try to save the water bill too so I just decide not buy it yet as I am not sure and did not like the condition of the plants that I see. And if couse the manner we tell him thank you and will make decision later as we considering a few trees and it is pricy. Once I back home, I received nasty text from the Owner about we looking his trees but not buy it. So I just check some review from other and thanks Gosh I went there with my husband and he is big guys. Reccommend not be there alone if you are women. Seem like the owner have problem with his mentality. I also block his number so he can't contact me now. And the pictures on google is not up to date. After not being able to go to his place twice, once because of weather and another because his employee went home sick, we finally agreed on between one and 2 yesterday. I arrived at 2:10 to find a locked gate with a sign saying they are open til 4. Left a message on John's phone and waited 25 minutes. Headed home at that point. Started getting stranger and stranger text messages from him this morning. I finally responded to say, "I guess we are done. Have fun." Since then I have gotten 7 profanity laced messages from a number of private phone numbers since I blocked his cell phone. John, the owner met us in his driveway. We told him of three citrus varieties that we wanted to plant on a newly landscaped hill. When he escorted us to the first grouping of Bears limes- the very first tree was green, healthy and perfectly shaped. We ended up buying 3 other varieties and each tree we purchased was the first ones we saw! There were no bad trees. The discount was the more you buy- the less the cost. He offered us a delivery date 2 days later at a very reasonable rate, too. When he arrived at our home with his employee, the trees were covered and protected. When they were placed in our yard, they looked like they belonged there and he gave us expert advice on trimming and watering. You will not find these trees at Home Depot- these were superior examples of each variety. We hope to do business with John again and won't hesitate to recommend this tree grower. read more
