Pork chop and chicken leg rice
    Carrie W.

This review is so long overdue. My family and I used to come here consistently and it does not disappoint. This restaurant is small and family owned. Trust me when I tell you that their pork chops and specifically the fried chicken leg is so much more superior than any other Taiwanese restaurant I've ever been to. I don't know how they are able to achieve such flavor, tenderness, and crispiness of the meat. Super good! And it comes with sides that varies every day. This time it came with ma po tofu and veggies. The meal always comes with an egg. I crave their food all the time and I'm sad that I don't live that close to Rowland heights anymore, but whenever I'm in this area, I will always consider this place as one of my meal choices.

Food is good. Service? What service?

I'd give this place zero stars if I could. I came here for lunch today with one other person, and the entire experience was honestly baffling and uncomfortable. The restaurant was only about 1/3 full when we arrived. We found a table and sat down, only for the woman owner to rush out of the kitchen and demand that we move. She claimed the table we chose was "reserved for a party of 4," even though the table she moved us to was the exact same size. Whatever, we obliged. Then it got weird. A few minutes later, another couple walked in, sat at our original table, and she gave them the same speech and shoved them into a corner. Ten minutes after that, a third couple walked in and sat at that same "reserved" table--and this time, she didn't say a word. She just let them stay. The other displaced couple and I just looked at each other in total confusion. It felt completely arbitrary and honestly disrespectful. The "service" here is non-existent anyway. It operates like a food court: you have to get your own water and walk up to the counter just to order your food. They basically just drop the plate and disappear. Because of the rude treatment and the fact that I did all the work myself, I didn't leave a tip. To my shock, the owner actually had the gall to come out and demand a tip. The level of entitlement is unreal. You can't treat customers like an inconvenience, provide zero service, and then expect to be rewarded for it.

Definitely some of the best Taiwanese pork chops you can get in LA. Pork chop had nicely crispy outside and achieved that perfect flavor you find with Taiwanese pork chops. Although their pork chop was really good, their fried chicken leg tasted even better in my opinion. Popcorn chicken was fine. Their rice and noodle soup tasted standard. I liked the service. It's gonna be hard to search for another restaurant in LA that does Taiwanese pork chops better than this place. So search no further and just come here!

Haven't been here in awhile, food is still as tasty and service is better! Will come again soon

Hair under the pork chops. Gross.

Came to get my pick up. While I got to the store, I waited by the cashier for my order. I figured I would get a cup and get water, which is right next to the cashier. As I grabbed the paper cup, the (rude) lady yells from INSIDE the kitchen: There's no water for pick up orders. (Geez, super Nazi!) Their pork chop is good, but will definitely make an effort to never come back. Update: Just started eating our take out and my son just told me there's a hair in his pork chop. Time to ask the health department to check their sanitation.

Noodles with pickled greens and crispy pork chops.

Got the pork chop and noodles. The soup was not that salty and the pork was crispy. The picked greens were tasty and added great flavor. Don't expect much service or a super clean place and your expectations won't be dashed.

Authentic, delicious Taiwanese food at a very affordable price. Service is great despite only two people running the restaurant. Ambiance is casual like a mom and pop Chinese restaurant. Highly recommended!

If this rating is for the food is is 5-star as this place is famous for the Taiwanese pork chops. Even though is mainly ate with rice I love their pork chops with soup noodle. The reason for 4 star is that it seem like a mom and pop shop so don't expect friendly customer service as I went today by myself and they don't even give me one napkin but gave other table who has 3 people. Also, their appetizer includes pig ears which I like but tried to order last 2 times they don't have it maybe discontinued but still on the menu. It's a small restaurant so not a lot of seats. Definitely not the best place to go if u have a big group more than 4.

We added pickled radish and bamboo shoots on the side, which made the noodle soup even better. We also ordered the xiao long bao, which came out juicy and delicious. I definitely recommend eating them while they're hot because once they cool down, the wrapper starts to harden and they're just not quite as good. For drinks, we got the honey lemon green tea, and it came in a huge jug! It was easily shareable between two people, so I thought it was a really good value for the price. Service was amazing as well. We came around 6 PM on a Sunday night and only waited about 5 minutes. It wasn't too busy, and there was plenty of parking available at that time, which was really nice. There's also underground parking if the plaza lot gets full. Would definitely come back again, especially for the Angus beef tomato ramen and xiao long bao!

I guess it used to be a Japanese restaurant, but it always looked so fancy on the outside that when I was in MS/HS/college, it looked too bougie to go to. Now 15 years later and with paltry income, I can treat my mom to lunch here! They're open at 11 AM, but we went in at around 10:50 AM since the Open sign was turned and the Open lights were one. Worker there greeted us with a smile, checked up on us the entire time, refilled our waters, brought us bowls to help us split food even when not prompted, and had a smile on the entire time. For the hour that we were there, a single diner came in and a party of 8 as well. They have a written wait list in front and a to go order kiosk, so you can tell they're pretty popular. Both of us got custom pho, which is $17 (the lowest base price unless you get plain) and you get an option of 3 proteins. Add an extra $1 for fresh noodles. We both just opted for the classic thin noodles. I ordered without beansprouts thinking it was already going to be in our broth, but it comes out as a side dish but the plate was enough for my mom and I to share. HUGE portions of pho. The bowl size is easily a large at any other pho restaurant. Both of us finished all of the meat in our order, but there was still a decent amount of noodles left so come in hungry. I ordered my custom pho with beef brisket, flank, and rib eye. Some of the cuts were a bit more fattier with big chunks of chewy gooey fat, which I'm not a fan of and left in the bowl. Other than that, pretty good meat quality. Not the most tender, but not tiny pieces or too dry either. Broth was pretty flavorful, nice depth of taste with the beef stock flavor, the onions and other garnishes. It's a bit fatty in taste, but it makes it richer in my opinion. We got a regular fried rice to try and take home for my brother's lunch. It's a plain one with carrots, peas, and scrambled eggs with some onions, garlic, and pepper (the spice). Light in flavor so it's not mega greasy. Just add some sauce on the side to taste. Overall, not a bad experience.

Went to the store on a Saturday at around 11:30 AM. It was moderately busy but I was able to seamlessly grab a seat for two. Parking was plentiful in the plaza. By the time I left, there was line waiting in front. Pad Thai: Got this with no green onions. The pad thai leans towards the sweeter side. They only gave one lime. We didn't feel it was enough so we asked for another one. Pork jerky: This came with two sauces. One seemed to be more of a vinegar base and the other one was more savory one. Both were good. Jerky was crispy and packed full of flavor. Papaya salad with pork belly: This includes green peas and tomatoes as well. It tasted seasoned well. The pork belly was also crispy. This took a bit longer to come out but worth the wait. (Completely forgot to take a photo since I was looking forward to it too much!) It's a perfect balance with the calamari and other entrees. * Yellow Pumpkin Curry - my choice of protein was combo (chicken, beef, shrimp) the mild spice gave just enough kick to not be overbearing for my taste buds. Perfectly paired as a sauce for the pineapple fried rice. It's so tasty, that my stomach became a bottomless pit. I couldn't stop eating it. * Pineapple Fried Rice - juicy and sweet, the veggies were soft and easy to chew. I enjoyed the sweet addition of the pineapple, but it may not be for everyone. This dish is not salty. * Pad See Ew - a traditional Thai dish done perfectly. The noodles, sauce, veggies and meat were delicious. I took it home and had it for lunch at work the next day. The waiters were attentive and provided quick service without making interruptions during our meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant may not be for everyone since it is extremely loud and seating is pretty cramped. I compare the noise volume to a traditional dimsum restaurant. The sesame peanut noodles have been disappointing the last three times I've ordered them. They barely add any sauce anymore, so the noodles taste bland. I asked an employee in Spanish if I could have a straw. She acted like she didn't understand me, so I asked again in English, and she still said she didn't understand. I just said never mind. But a few minutes later, my aunt asked the same employee in Spanish for more water, and suddenly she understood perfectly. That honestly left me confused. The employees also come off as rude and unfriendly. Then, when it's time to pay, they practically shove the tablet in your face while standing there watching you. We were a party of four, yet there was a $16 gratuity added, and on top of that they asked us how much extra tip we wanted to leave. It feels like you're being pressured into tipping twice instead of it being your choice. It's honestly sad because this place used to be so good. I've noticed fewer people eating there lately, and if the food quality and customer service keep getting worse, I can see why. I hope management takes this seriously and brings Thumbling back to what it used to be.

The young woman working immediately acknowledged us before we even finished writing our info down and asked how many were in our party. We said two, and she told us to go ahead and start building our bowls. The concept is pretty cool and very straightforward. You grab a bowl and tongs, then walk through the different sections choosing your ingredients. They had a good variety of veggies, noodles, meats, seafood, tofu, etc. Pricing is by weight at $15.99/lb. Once you finish building your bowl, you head to the cashier where they weigh it and you choose your broth and spice level. The broth selection was surprisingly huge, around 15 options if I remember correctly. I got the Tom Yum broth mild spice, and my girlfriend got the Organic Miso mild spice. We also added jasmine green tea and white rice for $1.99 each. After ordering, they give you a table number and you can head over to the self-serve sauce station while your food is being prepared. The sauce bar had ponzu, sesame oil, soy sauce, sriracha, Tabasco, scallions, cilantro, red onion, satay sauce, shallots, minced garlic, chili powder, chili oil, and more. The soups came out quickly and were served over a live flame at the table, which was a nice touch. Both broths were excellent. Even at mild spice, there was still a pleasant kick. The broth itself had good body and flavor and didn't taste watery at all. Service was also great. The server checked on us consistently, kept drinks refilled, and was attentive without hovering. The restaurant itself is pretty small, maybe around 8 tables, but it felt cozy rather than cramped. Nice interior, comfortable temperature, clean setup, and the vibe was relaxing. They were playing bossa nova versions of 2000s and modern hits which honestly fit the atmosphere perfectly. Definitely a spot I'd come back to. Great value, fun experience, and genuinely good hot pot.
