I've read and heard about this place, and it lives up to the hype as far as the pork chop rice goes. It's well fried. Good flavor. And you get the luxury of walking home smelling like it, whether you realized it or not. I got the chicken as well, and I thought it was just as good. Maybe I don't have the knowledge of what authentic real taiwanese fried pork chop is supposed to be like but I though this place to be pretty underwhelming. First of all they only gave me 4 strips of pork chop to go with the plate. At $7.50, the size and amount was pretty skeptical but hey if the quality warrants it then go ahead. The pork chops though were not that crispy and while the taste wasn't bad, I felt like it was average at best. Plate comes with broccoli, rice with the mince beef on top, some saucy tofu type stuff, and soup. All of which don't really stand out as anything special. We were referred here by a friend who seems to love it. Having tried the Jin Yuan chain in Taiwan, I have some expectation that this place is authentic. Don't get me wrong, this place tastes pretty good, but I don't understand what is the hype. It is really hard to mess up friend pork chops, and I don't feel like their pork chop tastes extra good. They are authentic in the sense that the taste and the sauce are more or less Taiwanese, but really now, it's not like Taiwanese restaurants are lacking in Rowland. What bugs me the most is that it is quite expensive for relatively little amount of food. I see some complaints about the service -- no gripe for me on this topic. Quite simple, really. I (Born in Florida) asked my dad (Taiwan, born and raised) what the best pork chop rice is in the area. He said this place. We drove from Arcadia to here and I would have to say the trip was worth it. Easily the best, if not the top 2 pork chop rice places I've had. Ever. If there are any pai-gu-fan connoisseurs out there who need the comparison for decision making purposes let's do this. (Subjective opinions here, don't get your panties in a bunch if I offend your favorite) It's the perfect amount of flavoring, especially with the worchestershire sauce. It's not as salty as Simbala's. The texture is also better than Simbala's, which I feel is too floury and leaves this weird aftertaste as well. The pork chops here are also just the right amount of crispiness. Not too oily so you feel like you're developing atherosclerosis upon leaving as you would at Liang's kitchen (there are a few, but the ones I've been to were all waaaay too oily). It's been awhile since I've been to Ding Tai Fung, but from what I recall the pork chops at DTF were not fried ENOUGH. Too... 'dainty'. This had no such issues. Long story short... this stuff has just the right amount of everything. Best pork chop rice I've ever had and I've had a few of them. i had no problems with service. When the missing entree was pointed out after 20 minutes they figured out it was never cooked. Wait another 15 minutes for pork chop to be delivered but missing the soup. A quick stop in for local Taiwanese food. The service is good, they have complementary iced green tea which is actually very delicious and refreshing. They are known for the pork chop rice which I would definitely recommend. They've got it down to a science. The pork chop is perfectly crisp on the outside but tender and moist on the inside and piping hot. The seasoning is perfect as well. Jin Yuan is a very small and cozy eatery that's right next to Ramen Yukinoya. One might overlook the small sign that says Jin Yuan! Their food is pretty good, however I think their prices could be lower. We ordered to-go: 1) Chicken Leg Rice- This comes with minced pork on rice and veggies. They put the chicken leg in another box. I think it wouldn't hurt if they give more rice with the meal, but the chicken leg was fried to the perfect crisp. There was not too much batter and you can actually taste the chicken (unlike those other places where they just fry it into a ball of who knows what). 2) Pork Chop Rice- This comes with minced pork on rice and veggies. They put the pork chop in another box. I noticed that the porkchop looked smaller than the chicken leg. Again, this is only lightly fried and I think they give more rice when you take it to-go. 3) Chicken Leg Dry Noodle- You must tell them to switch it to dry noodle because it's not on the menu. I think ordering their noodles is more worth it than getting the rice because they give more (amount-wise). Also, the dry noodles were topped with minced pork and was very tasty. It had a garlic taste to it and I honestly think this was the best combination out of the three. They put the chicken leg in another box. I felt like my chicken was too salty salty though. You could probably ask them to lower the sodium beforehand. 4) Bamboo with Mayo- This was very overpriced and you could make it at home by yourself. However, it's a traditional Taiwanese side dish so it was still good. 5) Stewed Bamboo Shoots- These were perfectly seasoned and they cook it in a slow cooker. I wouldn't recommend buying this though because it's overpriced for the amount you get, as well. Anyways, the server was very nice and she had a conversation with my family in Taiwanese. Holy sh*t this place is legit. But for $7.50 for a pork chop rice/ noodle soup it better be. The pork chop tasted like music in my mouth, it was hands down the best pork chop I've ever had at a Taiwanese restaurant in LA. I had the paigu mien (pork chop noodle soup) and the noodle soup was good, I liked that they give you pickled veggies and a soy sauce egg in the soup. We also ordered the bamboo salad, steamed bamboo, and cold seaweed. All the side dishes were delicious, I especially liked the seaweed and steamed bamboo. I'm salivating just thinking about the pork chop again. It was tender, perfectly seasoned, and fried to perfection without tasting oily. I could have ate that just on its own and be satisfied. The restaurant's name in Chinese basically says "Jin Yuan Pork Chop", so that's what you need to order when you're here. If you feel like having anything else then don't come here, this isn't the typical Taiwanese restaurant that serves all the traditional dishes. read more

so after finally deciding to move our SW flight from LAX to SJC on a raining day since it was supposed to leave at 8:20pm on friday night but was moved to 11:30 (and actually ended up really leaving at 1:30am!!)...we went to dinner. thought we'd try this place for its pork chop rice. it's a small little cafe with a limited menu. food is delicious!! ordered the pork chop rice and chicken leg rice. it was hot, temperature-wise, and fried to perfection. they came with rice, veggie (napa cabbage), and sour veggie (i don't know how to translate "swooan tsai" exactly). i liked the fact that this place did not oversalt anything. also had the tofu with thousand year old egg. yummy as well. i'll be back to jin yuan to try noodle dishes and more good stuff!! read more

The pork chop and the noodle soup is served separately. There's also a minced pork rice option too for those who don't want noodle soup. I got the chicken leg noodle soup for my first visit here. I did snag a piece of my dad's pork chop and it was very tasty. A bit salty but that's expected for a fried Taiwanese pork chop. My chicken leg was delicious. New ownership! Bad policies... during lunch hour, wife went alone to get lunch. Sat first in a 4 person table. With more people coming in, two customers were added to the table without asking her, but at this point it is understandable due to the lunch hour crunch, although she felt she should have been asked. Now there are 3 people on this 4 seat table. A bit later as she was just starting to eat, one waiting customer, male, wanted to take the seat in front of my wife, and instead of asking her, asked the other male customer in front of him if he was going to take the seat. This customer whom arrived first, said politely that he thought due to my wife being female, he thought he'd wait. However the former just said: "oh, then I am taking the seat." to the store manager and sat down without another word. Of course my wife just left the barely touched meal and asked for the check. The female and male owners came apologizing: "sorry there was nothing we could do", to which my wife said: "yes there was, you could've simply told him to wait." I had a long history with KingChop as a loyal customer. I remembered eating at KingChop with my parents when I was a teenage in Taiwan. We all enjoyed the food and home-cooking environment. Fast forward to the US. I am still a regular patron. The previous Taiwanese owner/lady was always polite, warm and very educated. She franchised this Restaurant to a new owner and opened up a KingChop in the city of Irvine. One day of this week I happened to be in the neighborhood and decided to check it out again. The service was horrible. I had a very unpleasant encounter with the new owner/lady. For some unknown reasons she was hostile, rude and almost mean-spirited toward her workers. Definitely the best porkchops and chicken rice (Taiwanese style) in all of SGV & inland empire. I always get the chicken over the pork because it's juicier. Not the cheapest Taiwanese bento you can buy, but worth it for a satisfying lunch. Portions are not big, so you might want to get some classic side dishes with your meal. read more

I do not understand why everyone is raving about this place. Nothing is fresh. Not even close to food in Taiwan. This owner uses the microwave to warm up everything, pork chop, chicken legs, curry....he could might as well bought the deep fried pork from some distributor. Restaurant food needs to be authentic and fresh. The only thing that is cooked in the back kitchen is the soup. He doesn't wash hands between handling the food (microwaving) and the cash he collects.
