First time venturing out to another spot around Bellaire on a whim because I was feeling desperate for a hair cut and didn't want to wait to book with my usual girl who I've been going to for years. Will not be coming back. First impression, big salon which made it feel empty. They actually seemed quite busy. I should've left because I noticed it was mostly men they were cutting. I decided to be "adventurous" and stay. One of the guys there was friendly and accommodating to me be a walk-in so I appreciated that. They washed my hair and cut it wet. Big red flag. I get my usual layers and because of this, my layers were a bit uneven. It wasn't thr worst cut I could've gotten, but I'm pretty easy going so it didn't bother me so much. He was going to curl my hair after, but I declined just cause that's not something I do. I didn't realize it was cash only, but I'm not surprised. Thai (aka David) badly damaged my hair right before Lunar New Year!!! People who know me often give compliment that I have beautiful, thick, nicely curved hair. For Luna new year 2025, I felt adventurous and wanted a new look with some highlights. I decided to have haircut with Thai (aka David) and hair color with his sister, Helen. On the day of my appointment, Helen was quite busy and after some discussion with both Thai and Helen, they convinced me to have hair color to be done by Thai, who claimed to have 30 years of experience. It was a huge mistake and I regret it until today!!! During the bleaching process, Thai put me under the heat while he was working between me and other customers. At one point, I felt the heat was too intense and it bothered my scalp. I alerted Thai. He checked on my hair and continued on. His sister Helen said my hair is about to finish but Thai commented only 75% and my hair needed longer time. It took almost 5 hours to complete my highlights. By the time it was done, my long hair felt different but I didn't suspect anything. Thai made a comment to advise me not wash my hair for 1 week, which sounded really unusual to me. I hate myself for trusting him, paid for his services and even gave him a nice tip (since I was the last customer leaving their salon before they closed a few days for the Lunar new year). When I get home, I noticed my hair was much lighter and seem very dry. The next day, when I combed my hair, I was in total shock to see my highlighted hair broken off. Same thing happened every time I combed my hair after that. . By the time I was able to wash my hair as advised, the texture of what left of the highlighted hair felt like rubber band, stretchy and badly damaged!!!! I felt like crying and screaming but had to hold it my during my 1st week of Lunar NY. After the new year week, I called Thai. I just introduced my name and haven't said anything else, Thai already hung up my call. This action reflected his guilty feeling....like he already knew the reason of my call. It really infuriated me. I tried to calm myself by comparing to those people who lost their homes and livelihood, losing my hair on the Lunar new year is not the end of the world. I still have half of my hair left. It just look bad with the remaining 2-3 inch of the highlights sticking out of my head. I should never let Thai did my highlights. Due to COVID I was managed to schedule an appointment for hair perm within the same day. This was really rare in the past since they were always packed! Everyone wore masks inside. They're only accepting appointments. I've had my hair permed by Lisa before so I knew they'd be able to deliver what I'm expecting for. I had a haircut back in March so John briefly trimmed my hair before the procedure. Due to the thickness of hair, the whole process was roughly 3.5 hours. John and Lisa told me that other customers only need 2.5-3 hours typically since they don't have as much hair as I do haha. After the perm, John trimmed my hair again to make sure it was evenly layered. He also showed me how to style it. I love King Salon. I think all of the hairstylists are great, but my usual stylist is Helen. She really listens to you, gives feedback, but still gives you the cut you request. But honestly her feedback is excellent, she knows what she's doing and what looks best for your hair type and face shape. I've spent $60+ on cuts that ended up being subpar versus the $20-25 (not including tip yet) I get with her which is such a value. Also, after 32 years I finally decided to get my hair colored for the first time and I went with Helen. 1) the pricing again in comparison to high end salons is fantastic and can't be best but also 1) quality was amazing. I gave Helen another chance thinking that the last visit may have been just a bad day for her. Unfortunately, it was worse this time. I just have to start by saying Helen is AMAZING. I came to her after reading all the reviews since my first balayage when I got married didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it. However, Helen even gave me her personal number when I called to make an appointment and had me send her pictures of what I wanted. My friend was lucky enough to also schedule with her the same day so we got to spend our experience together. Helen only booked us two that day and combined, we spent 7 hours with her! She uses really nice, smelling shampoo and is super personable. I learned she has 3 kids and is a SUPER hard worker. Since we were there so long and she knew we hadn't eaten, she even bought us banh mi sandwiches. I mean, who even does that??? She's SPECTACULAR. As for our hair, my friend hasn't gotten what she's wanted multiple times but with Helen, she got it finally! As for my ombré, it wasn't quite the color I had wanted as it came out a lot more blonde than I wanted but I grew to love it over the weeks and I get so many compliments. I was very excited to visit the salon but came out with a huge disappointment. I visited the salon for a balayage. I have talked to David previously on what I wanted and how my current hair was bleached two times and had demi color on) I went in to get my hair done on 10/31 and left the salon being pretty satisfied even though the color was completely different than the picture I showed David. Here is the problem. On my way home I felt a rough patch on my hair and saw it on the mirror. And I was SHOOK. A whole chunk of my hair has been burnt off due to bleach. For me damaged hair is not the biggest concern. I was furious that David DID NOT mention this to me at all and even lied while he was styling my hair. He parted my hair the other way than my original hair (which I though ok whatever) but he turned me around while he was drying my hair and said that the "cord was too short to reach my other side" BS!! I have contacted him when I got home about the horrible hair and he told me if he could give me some bags. I declined his offer and he say he would trim the ends for me. So I went in again. But all he did was razor shaved the ends which took 3 minutes (also this is when I saw the cord was not short at all) After 2 days I had washed my hair and saw that I had lost so much on my left side and how bad the condition of my hair was (i had my hair bleached multiple times so I know bad condition). I contacted David again but was ignored. I understand things could happen while doing hair but lying to customer is NOT OKAY!! read more

I came back to Helen for another ashy balayage, but wanted to go lighter this time. The process took a total of 6 hours, but it was definitely worth the wait! Helen was very detail oriented and took the time to slowly bleach my hair and avoid the already previously bleached parts to avoid damage. I had a few inspiration photos on hand, and I appreciate how she was honest and told me which colors were no realistic, and would damage my hair a lot. She bleached, blended, and toned my hair, then trimmed and took the extra step to curl my hair too! Although long, my visit here was great, and Helen and the other hairdressers there kept me entertained with small conversations and offered me snacks since I was there for so long. They're also currently remodeling the shop, and are getting new shampoo chairs and dryers! This will be a quick review - I needed a last minute wash/blowout for a photoshoot (one that wouldn't break the bank) and found King Salon. Called ahead and the owner said that they could fit me in. Lisa is the one who did my wash and blowout. She was very friendly and fast, and she also gave me some suggestions for hair maintenance. Even though she didn't do any bleaching, I swear my bayalage looked brighter and shinier afterwards (my husband also really liked how it turned out!) Price was very reasonable ($20 pre-tip. I think if you get a cut as well, which I didn't, prices start at $25). They don't take credit card, though, so that's the only thing to keep in mind. read more

At first, I thought she did an okay job because she curled my hair so i couldn't see how uneven it was... this is my far the most horrible hair cut I have had in awhile.
