I dyed my hair here today. If you want to have beautiful hair, we recommend you come here.

Long hair trend got highlighted and broke off afterwards

Thai (aka David) badly damaged my hair right before Lunar New Year!!! People who know me often give compliment that I have beautiful, thick, nicely curved hair. For Luna new year 2025, I felt adventurous and wanted a new look with some highlights. I decided to have haircut with Thai (aka David) and hair color with his sister, Helen. On the day of my appointment, Helen was quite busy and after some discussion with both Thai and Helen, they convinced me to have hair color to be done by Thai, who claimed to have 30 years of experience. It was a huge mistake and I regret it until today!!! During the bleaching process, Thai put me under the heat while he was working between me and other customers. At one point, I felt the heat was too intense and it bothered my scalp. I alerted Thai. He checked on my hair and continued on. His sister Helen said my hair is about to finish but Thai commented only 75% and my hair needed longer time. It took almost 5 hours to complete my highlights. By the time it was done, my long hair felt different but I didn't suspect anything. Thai made a comment to advise me not wash my hair for 1 week, which sounded really unusual to me. I hate myself for trusting him, paid for his services and even gave him a nice tip (since I was the last customer leaving their salon before they closed a few days for the Lunar new year). When I get home, I noticed my hair was much lighter and seem very dry. The next day, when I combed my hair, I was in total shock to see my highlighted hair broken off. Same thing happened every time I combed my hair after that. . By the time I was able to wash my hair as advised, the texture of what left of the highlighted hair felt like rubber band, stretchy and badly damaged!!!! I felt like crying and screaming but had to hold it my during my 1st week of Lunar NY. After the new year week, I called Thai. I just introduced my name and haven't said anything else, Thai already hung up my call. This action reflected his guilty feeling....like he already knew the reason of my call. It really infuriated me. I tried to calm myself by comparing to those people who lost their homes and livelihood, losing my hair on the Lunar new year is not the end of the world. I still have half of my hair left. It just look bad with the remaining 2-3 inch of the highlights sticking out of my head. I should never let Thai did my highlights. It was my first time at this salon and also my last! I would never ever come back again! It was my big regret!!!

I have been a loyal customer of Helen since I was 18, and I'm now 33. She always cares and genuinely offers the best advice to her customers. Everyone else at the salon is very friendly and helpful as well.

I am overwhelmingly pleased with my hair color!! Helen is a true artist She took her time to perfect every detail, and the result shows! Not only that, she communicates clearly throughout the process so I knew what to expect (how long each step will take, the mix of colors she used, etc.) My hair feels soft afterwards too! It's apparent that she cares about the customer's experience. I will definitely be back

Due to COVID I was managed to schedule an appointment for hair perm within the same day. This was really rare in the past since they were always packed! Everyone wore masks inside. They're only accepting appointments. I've had my hair permed by Lisa before so I knew they'd be able to deliver what I'm expecting for. I had a haircut back in March so John briefly trimmed my hair before the procedure. Due to the thickness of hair, the whole process was roughly 3.5 hours. John and Lisa told me that other customers only need 2.5-3 hours typically since they don't have as much hair as I do haha. After the perm, John trimmed my hair again to make sure it was evenly layered. He also showed me how to style it. Overall I'm very happy with the results and I'd come back again for another haircut or perm!

I love King Salon. I think all of the hairstylists are great, but my usual stylist is Helen. She really listens to you, gives feedback, but still gives you the cut you request. But honestly her feedback is excellent, she knows what she's doing and what looks best for your hair type and face shape. I've spent $60+ on cuts that ended up being subpar versus the $20-25 (not including tip yet) I get with her which is such a value. Also, after 32 years I finally decided to get my hair colored for the first time and I went with Helen. 1) the pricing again in comparison to high end salons is fantastic and can't be best but also 1) quality was amazing. I trusted what she did with my hair (caramel balayage with some ash) and it turned out amazing. I get so many compliments! And my hair has not been ruined or anything. She's so sweet and does the right amount of talking but also just letting you sit in silence. Want a high-end quality cut and color for a fraction of the price? Go here!

Trust the process! Sitting under the dryer would've made my hair gummy. So a warm blanket was used to prevent it from becoming gummy!

Helen was honest about how hard it was going to be lifting my DYED black hair from 2 months ago, when I also had purple and blonde underneath it. She didn't want to risk damaging my hair when I originally wanted actual full blonde. She asked about my hair history and I told her about another salon making my hair gummy. She did what she could! She gave me ashy blonde/brown options since that's the lightest my hair would go. She stayed after closing to perfect it as much as possible! I love how it turned out! I trusted her and I'm so glad I did! I'm definitely going back to her!! Really trust her process

Kevin and Helen took the best care of us!

The King Salon definitely treats their clients as if they were actually kings and queens of the whole place. Kevin and Ms. Helen did their magic and took me and brother in for their services. They were both very communicative and understanding of what our hair-related wants and wishes, and put their whole heart and effort to it! Me and my brother both recommend these two stylists-- so talented, patient, communicative throughout the whole process. Thank you so much Helen and Kevin! We will be definitely come back soon! :)

6 stars this time!!! Helen is quite amazing. She is very communicative before setting an appointment and she works with you to achieve your desired look. I asked for more of a mix between honey and ash medium blonde and she delivered with grace. She mixed different blonde shades together and added some gray for that ash tone. This is my second time visiting her. She is so hard working, patient, and considerate in addition to her sharp talent in her craft. It seems the hairdressers here are all very talented and have strong attention to detail. Support local in Houston! 6 stars

Amazing work by Helen! This is haircut and balayage. She was so accommodating and careful with the whole process. Scheduling was a breeze, and reasonable price too! I also got some purple hair mask that they sell in store. Text to setup an appointment 713-584-0001

David is amazing! I came in with reddish brown hair and left a blond! First, the reception was very friendly! I didn't wait long at all. David was very friendly and made sure to make sure I was comfortable! He was attentive and listened to what I wanted. He made sure not to fry my hair with bleach and took care of me! I will definitely be back to lighten the blond and touch up the roots! The price was 180 and it was worth every dollar! They truly give a great service! Thank you so much David!!

Helen always cuts my hair and does a great job! The attention to detail is immaculate and the staff are all very friendly. The prices are great, especially for the quality. Personally I do not dye or perm my hair, but I have seen the before/after of other customers who do and it looks great. Helen was also able to help me donate my hair, which is a plus! My dad gets his haircut here by John. He does an excellent job and has lots of funny jokes. I would say choose stylist based on preference; all of them are good. Be sure to make an appointment because they tend to be booked up to a week in advance.

Balayage by Helen -- love how well blended and natural it turned out!
    Stephanie H.

I was looking for a new hairstylist and thanks to yelp I think I found my new favorite hairstylist named Helen! She is very friendly, hardworking, and attentive to details! This is my third time back but the first time getting my hair colored by her, and I was very impressed! The whole balayage process took about 3 hours, but it was well worth it. She took her time to make sure everything would turn out the way I wanted it to, and explained each step to me. I was very surprised by how soft and silky my hair felt after! Her prices are very reasonable and way cheaper than other places, but the quality of work is comparable to upscale salons. Save yo $$$ and book with Helen!! P.S. she gets very booked so I would definitely recommend calling ahead to book an appointment with her!

Light snacks, like cranberries and nuts are provided along with hot tea options, and citrus flavored water. The space is very nice. There are locker rooms with plush spa robes and complementary slippers. The locker room has two steam showers if you want to wash yourself after your massage. They also provide hair products to try as well as a Dyson hair dryer. I was definitely very impressed with the luxurious feel of the spa, however, was turned off by the receptionist who checked me in - her robotic, transactional nature was starkly juxtaposed against the warmth of the spa. I noticed she was the same with all customers so it wasn't personal but interaction with her was unsettling. I booked the 60min signature hydrafacial and the esthetician was welcoming and willingly customized my facial based on my requests. No major issues encountered but I noticed we started 10 minutes late and ended 10 minutes early so I thought marketing it as a 60min experience was a bit misleading. Also note the 60min Signature Hydrafacial does not include any hand/neck massages nor boosters nor light therapy so the $285 price was much more expensive than my usual spa. I will not return for another facial but may try massage in the future. We also booked pedicures and again the space is beautiful!! We were given a palette to select colors and the ladies were extremely friendly! My toes came out adorable! I found the seating to be very uncomfortable for a short person despite many pillows placed behind me for support so I honestly struggled to enjoy the experience but the space was very nicely decorated and clean looking. We were offered tea and snacks at the beginning as well. Overall, this was a very nice spa. I found it fairly expensive and overpriced, but I recognize beautiful spaces have a cost and that's what I should've expected in the River Oaks area. There is complementary validated parking!
