Not for me. Walk in and no appointments needed. It was about 2pm and I think airconditioning was not working coz they needed an electric fan inside the salon. I gave the hairdresser the style I want and gave specific instructions I dont want short hair and I want it shoulder length. She is very skilled. But she cut my hair up to chin length and the back is up my nape. I was horrified. She needs to listen more to what the customer is wanting rather than what she feels the customer needs. I just tried this salon coz some of my friends go there but it is not for me. The good side is hair color and highlights are of reasonable price. I asked for only an inch off and a corrective cut. She cut off about maybe 3 inches of my hair and couldn't even evenly cut my side bangs. She kept repeatedly telling me that this is how you're supposed to cut it and that she is only cutting and inch off. She took off so much length and doesn't listen to the customers wants. I usually get my haircuts with Vivian. She's very nice and she always gives me the cut that I want. I've gone to her for the past 3 year and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I've requested for an oval cut, not too sharp like a v-cut and not too round like a u-cut, and for a bit of layers. Since my hair has been damaged and had a bit of breakage from my previous bleach sessions, she was able to give me a lovely haircut. (10/10) would recommend. read more

Let me just say I loved my experience here ! I'm from out of town but was desperately in need of a haircut. I called the day before and said that haircut is 35 and up which is very good price from where I am coming from. I got there around 9:15 and was greeted right away and I had holly who was so sweet and the crazy thing is shampoo, style and cut was 35 dollars !! That is unheard of. I loved how genuine she was and no it's not a fancy place but still clean and plenty of parking. When I come back to town I'll definitely be visiting again! read more

Nancy is an angel! I called her for a haircut and she told me she can work me in between a hair color appointment. It's been a while since I had a trim- which she noticed lol-- she took her time and gave me some layers and framed my face. My cut was only $25 and I was expecting it to be much much more. Talked to Nga/Nancy on the phone, and she took care of me when I got in. I was just going to get a trim and some color, but had her also do my highlights as well. Alright I think it's time for an update since I basically make a trip here every time I visit Houston. I mean I must love this place if I strategically plan my Houston visits around haircuts right? No seriously, I call one week in advance, tell Vivian I'm coming, arrive to Houston, pick up a rental, and drive straight to Salon 168. No one cuts my hair like her. I've tried to find her replacement with every relocation I've done, but it's close to impossible to find someone that I leave happy with for $18. That's what we all strive for in life right? A hairdresser that just gets you and never disappoints. Whenever I bring a picture in, she always manages to match it exactly. As for color, I've never gotten my color done here, or any Asian salon to be honest. Come for the cuts, you won't be disappointed! Especially with Vivian! :) read more

After reading a few (but stellar) reviews of Salon 168, I decided to make an appointment with Vivian on a Wednesday afternoon. Making an appointment was fairly harmless, but Vivian can get pretty busy sometimes. Upon arriving for my appointment, I was kindly greeted by the staff as they asked me to wait until Vivian was available. One of the stylists even offered to wax my eyebrows while I waited, but I respectfully declined while I wondered if my brows were really that hidious... Although I had to wait 15 minutes, Vivian was very friendly and prompt in her services. What I like most about her is that she is very honest in her opinions. I told her I wanted to grow my hair out for my wedding and color my hair to hide my bright highlights, and she gave me great suggestions on what hair style and color she'd recommend. I must say that I love my hair now - it's a beautiful color and at the right length. And a color & cut for only $50? That sounds like a great deal to me! As I was chatting with her while she was cutting my hair, I found out that she was an original staff member of Beauty Express (you can read my review on them) and a close friend of Tracy. While we both sang praises of Tracy's talent, we also both griped about the long wait and terrible scheduling at Beauty Express. In fact, that's why Vivian left and eventually started Salon 168. I personally think Vivian is just as talented as Tracy is, but I don't have to wait 3 hours to get my hair done! I was out of there in under 1.5 hours! I highly recommend Salon 168 if you're looking for an affordable alternative to an otherwise expensive 4-star salon. It's clean, the staff is friendly, and the services are great. If I could give 10 stars, I would. I have been going to Salon 168 since 2008 (and probably should have left a review long ago), and I will not go anywhere else. Theresa always takes care of me and is so meticulous with her cut and styling. She takes her time shampooing and conditioning my hair and also gives a nice little neck and shoulder massage after the wash. It's so relaxing. She is so detailed when cutting my hair, even when it's just a trim, and I really appreciate it. She will also blow dry and style it however I request. All of this for a whopping $20! You simply cannot beat this kind of attention to detail, service, and price. Today I took off about 12", and, per my request, Theresa wrapped up my hair so that I could donate it. I definitely recommend anyone and their mom to go to Salon 168!!! read more

Awful service from the barber with the dyed hair in the second chair from the back on the left. Santa must have given her a lump of coal this year as she was very rude when I entered the shop. I told her I was looking for the lady who cut my hair last time (she was nice and did a very good job). She asked me what the lady's name was and I told her I didn't remember and she proceeded to whisper under her breath why someone doesn't remember their barber's name. If the woman who thinks she's all THAT is the owner, she's setting a very poor example of customer service for everyone else. If she's not, she sucks at her job. read more

Holly , the hair stylist is awesome, she does a great job. The salon, however, is kind of unorganized and chaotic. There's usually nobody at the front desk to greet customer.It'd be great if they get a sign-in sheet. You literally have to get a stylist's attention to make sure you're in line to get a haircut. I've been shopping around this huge city looking for hair salon. One that doesn't break the bank to style and cut my long thick hair. I've been to a few where I used to live and stuck with the same for years. So when I moved here, I was lost. Didn't know where to go. So I asked the lady who does my nails in the Heights and she recommended Salon 168. I walked in the salon and was greeted by all the ladies. Right away I was in a chair. My stylist was Holly. I adored her hair so I asked for a similar cut and color. Mind you my hair is halfway down my back. She was very professional quick and precise. While I was there I also got an eyebrow and lip wax. Amazing salon! I have thick Asian hair and always find it hard to find a stylist that will layer my hair without thinning it too much. My friend recommended me to come here and I've been a religious customer for the past year! My hair stylist is Vivian and she does a great job every time! I always come in with a reference photo and Vivian will use her expert opinion to let you know if you can achieve that look or how to alter it to your face shape! I definitely think this salon is underrated for the service you receive! My haircut and wash was only $30! I've gotten 3 haircuts here within the past year and I always come out satisfied! I am terrified of going to new hair salons because of past bad experiences. After moving to Houston and putting off getting my hair cut for 8 months, I finally gave in and went to Salon 168 on recommendation of my aunt and cousin. I was pleasantly surprised! Teresa was great- I didn't even have to give that much of an explaination of what I wanted and she got it just right. Teresa didn't talk much (maybe because shes not completely comfortable with English) but I kind of prefer that anyway. The short head/neck/shoulder massage that came after the shampoo was AWESOME and unexpected. Blowdry and style were included in the price- which I thought was reasonable at $17 for my long hair. Although, I did go back a few months later and I guess I've grown to an extra long $20 hair cut and I did have to wait about 15 min the second time, even though I had an appointment. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for a few years. I was hesitant to go to a new salon at first but after my first time with Theresa I kept coming back. Theresa is very detailed and always patiently cut my hair just like I like it. The 10 minute head, neck and shoulder massage is also great. All this for $10! Not including tip of course. My wife prefers Holly, who always does a great job on her hair too. The girls working here have varying degrees of English skills. I've been going to this place since it had a different owner in 2006. The salon itself is nice and clean, and I like how it's in the Viet Hoa strip. Vivian, the woman who owns it now, is awesome. She's fabulous. There are days you can tell she's tired, but she's always very friendly. Her cuts are very detailed and she always asks me if I'm sure and provides other suggestions when I ask for something crazy. I have a round face and she always manages to frame it percectly. I've also gotten my hair cut by Theresa-- she doesn't speak much English, but she's also very nice and she gets the job done quickly. She is great with color, both of them are. I've had my hair all sorts of different colors, and it always comes out great. The price is close to what you would pay for a basic cut and style at Visible Changes, but not quite. It's still worth the money. I don't, however, like the lady who waxes my eyebrows. I started getting them done somewhere else because 1. She wasn't very good. 2. she was a bit pretentious and I got annoyed by personal things she would ask. I don't know how out of the way other people would go to get their hair cut here, but I trust Vivian and Theresa completely. They've never let me down. read more

0 stars. I called days ahead to make an appointment with Thuy. I said I'd be there from 3:00-3:30pm. She told me to give her an exact time. I told her 3:30pm. I got there early(3:00pm) and waited. (I am not holding anyone else accountable for me getting there early). 3:30pm - My appointment time. I give or take 10 minutes. 3:40pm - Thuy tells me to wait "a little bit more." 3:50pm - Thuy tells me to wait "10 more minutes." 4:00pm - A male customer comes in. Thuy takes him in and makes him wait while she's washing someone else's hair. I ask her how much longer I have to wait. She says "a little bit more." Time is valuable & is a privilege to me. I don't like to waste other's time and I don't like to have my time wasted. I hate people who cannot keep their word. If you don't want to waste your time, cut your hair somewhere else. read more

Nothing fancy but good cuts! My sister took me to this salon after getting a good hair cut here. I did not try coloring etc. but I was happy with my cut. I do not recommend their pedicure though, if you can, avoid it. But they do a good job with cuts. Both Vivian's and another lady's work were impressive. I recommended it to another friend of mine and she was happy as well. I'm only sad that the day I went, lady who washes hair and gives a short massage was out :( Vivian is very nice and accomodating, yet she would tell you her opinion if she would not agree with you on what you wanna do with your hair, which I appreciate. I saw a lady at a store in Galleria and couldn't resist asking where she did her hair. And guess what!! Vivian is the way to go, been almost 3 years that I've been coming to her. I've had a tornado run through my hair when I first moved to Houston, and took me years to get over the phobia of disastrous hair. Vivian advised me to let my hair grow out for at least an year (It was a long wait) before I plan on doing anything further, that was the most honest advice (I had consulted many other hair salons where they offered many more chemical treatments to just make money). She is a perfectionist when it comes to hair cuts, wear your patience hat on as she will spend time on your hair and won't stop until it's perfect. I have been coming here for over ten years, and still come back for Vivian! She is amazing, she knows my whole family and always asks about them if I come alone - she has styled my sister's and mom's hair for as long. I don't do my hair as often as other people, maybe once a year or I can come 2 years later and she'll still remember me and what I like. She has great memory and good customer relationship. Always gives me advice on my hair when I tell her what I want to do with it. Followed her to this Salon after she left the other salon she was working at. She's that amazing. I recommend going to her. I've dyed and cut my hair here but honestly, I'm more satisfied with the hair cuts. It's been a couple times where I'm not 100% satisfied so I've stopped coming here for that and found somebody else who does an amazing job. Theresa was such a sweetheart! This was my first time going to salon 168 and I loved it. I came in with purple hair and was looking for a brown color to start the fall off. (Keep in mind purple is hard to take out if not done correctly) I walked in and she greeted me quickly and took me to her chair. I asked her for a swatch book and she showed me the colors I would want to go for, once we picked out the right color, she dyed my hair so fast! After she gave me an amazing shampoo and a neck massage, she also did a hair treatment to help out those damage ends! She then did a blowout and fixed the previous haircut that I had (which was uneven) lol loved my cut definitely going back! read more
