In the extremely trying times if COVID19.. there are heroes, and there are zeros. Bellmore king of kullen, sorry, you're no royalty. ZERO. They do have appropriate social distancing signs but they are not limiting the flow of folks inside at all. So guess what? It's deceivingly busy inside. People everywhere. Their stock is... fair... I suppose....considering folks have been cray cray lately. The meat section was low and frozen goods were pretty sad to look at. Produce was the only fully stocked section. The two things that really rub me the wrong way was paying higher prices for nearly every single item and having to pay for bags. People are being encouraged NOT to bring their reusable bags at many stores for sanitary reasons (at least in my area). However, KK happily charges you 5 cents a bag for terrible, thinnner-than-my-patience paper bags. This frustration is coming from a faithful reusable bagger of 5 years.. sigh. Visit Date: December 26, 2018 I come to this King Kullen at least once a month on the way home from working on a Thursday night. I like to support local business when I can, and since King Kullen is a long island based company I don't mind throwing a few dollars their way. They usually have what I need and I have never had a problem locating what I'm looking for or with what I bring home. I have never experienced any negativity with the staff here either. First and foremost, King Kullen has the best product selection of any grocer in the area. The unfortunate part is when you find the item that you want but you can't check out because the lines are too long. Out of the four self checkout lanes, two were not working. As to cash register lanes, only two were open. I noticed that the store manager was stocking shelves close to the registers. He made no effort whatsoever to open up another register, or direct another employee to open up a register to help us out. I don't know about you but I would rather drive an extra five minutes to get in and out of a grocery store quicker than to wait in the long checkout line like a putz. And they wonder why people are shopping elsewhere. Here's the conversation at the next management meeting: Regional manager: "Can anyone tell me why the King Kullen sales at this location is down from the last quarter? Store Manager: "Sir, Covid is my best guess." Although my last two paragraphs were a parody, I could only guess what's going on at these meetings.....If they have them at all....! The most expensive supermarket in the area. The quality of the produce sold there (pre-packed) is bad. 8.00$ for a package of wilted lettuce. While they have weekly sales, the better priced sales require an additional purchase north of 15.00$. Better deals to be had at other markets (shop right, Lidl, Trader Joe's ). I returned a package yesterday of wilted lettuce, the two kids behind the counter could have cared less. They couldn't even figure out how to start the return. I walked out. I went straight to the butchers at the Bellmore store twice so far for a 10lb whole packer beef brisket to smoke and both times I've gotten perfectly trimmed briskets that came out amazingly succulent with a perfect bark. I have been going to this location over 20 years - and to say it's my traveled location in emergencies. The prices are super high here, the highest in the area. Today while on a self checkout I was weighing my bags right before I was about to scan and a worker came over to my bag, didn't even ask can I look into your bag got within 1/2 inch of me with no warning at all to look in. I don't care if you need to look into my bags but at least ask and don't make me feel like a common criminal. Might I add my 10 year old daughter was with me watching this whole thing and asked " why did that man look I your bags mom? " train your staff not to be rude and ask. During covid times people are worried about close contact and with no warning at all was inappropriate. I will not be returning and probably will save $$$ in the long run since everything is marked up. Just disappointed! read more

I hate how often I shop here simply because its close, the store sucks and always let's me down. Always out of at least one of the items I need and seldom more then 2 cashiers. Produce section is usually poor and the bread aisle always looks like we're having a blizzard and has been ransacked! Deli is good. Staff is overworked and store is understaffed. read more

I used to shop at small supermarkets in low income areas and do not recall so many expired products. It's not even that the standards are low at this place, it's neglectful. If you go here, it will take a longer time because you truly must look at everything beforehand. On a Tuesday Sept 19 bacon dated Sept 5th and Sept 24th. Milk close to due date. This is a decent (but not great) grocery store on Sunrise Highway which is still hanging in there from the old days. The first thing one notices upon entering is that one almost doesn't make it in! That is to say, the automatic door may stutter or delay a little bit before it finally swings open. Yes, this is a most peculiar store... some good qualities, some not so good qualities... I could not find the coinstar machine last time I was in there, and I looked everywhere. This made shopping extremely difficult, as I was carrying around at least three dollars worth of quarters in my pocket. They do boast one of the largest selections of generic pop out there, so if you're looking for a flavor that Simply Soda "simply" does not manufacture, look no further than King Kullen. The staff is friendly- probably because they have plenty of time to relax and socialize while they are NOT cleaning the store! I tell you... The produce don't look too appealing & the selection is not that great. I only ran in for some Bubba Burgers & since they're frozen & were not outdated, at least I had some success. Very expensive compared to Stop and Shop which is right down the block. The store hours on their website are never accurate so you can't rely on them. It sucks driving all the way there to find a big note on the door saying they are closed after midnight when the website says open 24 hours. It's obvious they know people are coming after midnight but they still don't update their website. If you are unsure, call them first and don't waste your gas and time driving their like me. read more

This King Kullen location is another grocery store I frequent. The staff is friendly and helpful. Also, unlike other stores (at least for me) the products are always in stock. Their produce section is maintained and very clean. I like that the aisles aren't super narrow so you can actually pass someone with your cart. However, like all places they keep so many of those stands in the aisles... it's like navigating through traffic. King Kullen accepts and doubles coupons which is great and they tend to send out local fliers with $10 off ones. Overall, this place is very clean and efficient. read more

I shop here on a regular basis. The Store is very clean and neat and easy to find what you need. The only problem is the poor labeling of sale items. The shelves are marked with the sale price but many varieties are excluded. There is no way to distinguish. Which causes delays at check out and over charging if you happen to not notice . Also I do not appreciate being harassed upon entering the store by girl scouts, boy scouts, food drives, school sports teams. Etc. It's rude and quite annoying. I will gladly donate to charities of my own choice I dont need to be pressured in front of a grocery store. read more

I know post probably won't matter since King Kullen has sold but I hope the butcher reads this. I recently bought 3 packages of the thick pork chops 3 days within the date, when I got them home I noticed the gamie oder but with six people coming over for dinner I figured I could mask the smell with seasoning. This store should be ashamed of themselves for misrepresenting the dates on the food. The food was bad and old and should have been tossed into the bin. A decent mainstream grocery, but nothing outstanding. The store has a pretty decent layout as well as an ample amount of self-checkouts. Selection can be hit or miss, some brands are just not carried here. Prices tend to be higher than Stop & Shop. Bakery is mediocre. Beware though, the customer restroom STINKS and I only use it as a last resort. Also a terrible smell from the loading dock area, certainly not the cleanest place. It is an "OK" store, but the newly re-opened Stop & Shop in Merrick is much nicer. read more

Buyer Beware: expired merchandise. Throughout the summer, I have found numerous expired items on the shelves: yogurt, orange juice, pretzels, etc. when I approach the manager to explain the situation, he appears bothered and unapologetic. This store has excellent produce and some of the dairy products are really good. I recently went to the deli counter and had asked the young man for 2 things roast beef and turkey. I told the young man that I was going to shop and come back in a few minutes. He was behind the counter with 4 other guys. When I returned in 10 minutes he was chatting with the other guys and had only sliced the turkey. When I asked for the beef he started to walk over to the refrigerator to get it. I turned around and found the manager. When I told he manager the story he acted on it immediately. I like the response and the way he brought me over to show him which guy was busy chatting instead of working. I felt bad but showed him the guy. I feel like they care about the customer here. They probably need to train the deli counter about handling the requests promptly but I was impressed with the manger. Anyway... it is a decent store and convenient for quick shopping. They are more expensive than some of the others but you can always find what you are looking for. read more

Just started shopping here this past winter after stop and shop in merrick had renovation and still after they reopened did not have certain items I buy. So I decided to give king kullen a shot and I am glad I did. They have everything I want and I never leave disappointed. Every time I shop here I am greeted by Darlean who is a cashier here.
