Stop and shop does not change to much from location to location and neither does my review. I just tailor it to the specific area. Stop and shop is definitely my favorite of all the chain markets and this location is my favorite among the stores. It's big, bright and clean... The shelves are always stocked and everyone is helpful (especially navigating your way through this food warehouse.) There are in a large shopping center so there is always plenty of parking. It may get more challenging during peak periods, but that's to be expected. We now use our phone as a scanner to make our purchases. It makes the whole shopping process extremely easy... especially on the checkout side. They have a good (and well stocked) meat department. They always seem to have a plentiful supply of frozen fish. There is a good bakery with plenty of selections of cakes, cookies and breads. There are many freezers of frozen foods and they are always having good sales on them as well. I have always been impressed with their fresh fruits and vegetables which are also strategically located around the prepared foods, cheeses, and specialty gourmet items. It is definitely a value store and you must be sure to get a "savings card" to take advantage of the preferred pricing. But... do not fret. If you do not have a card or leave yours at home the cashiers always keep a "house card" available for their customers. They have good sales and we try to take advantage of them. Make sure you bring your own bags or you're charged (.05) for each bag you use. Cashiers smile, say hello and thank you for shopping at their store. You'll never see them standing around texting their friends. Most of the time I try to use the self checkout. Worst deli staff anywhere. They're impatient, rude, and don't get your order write. Sitting here eating a turkey sandwich because I asked for ham and didn't notice till I got home. No complaints about the store itself but to the dolt who opened up a new line today around 130 pm and didn't take the extra minute to have the customers who were waiting on other lines the longest but letting customers who were not waiting long rush over is just plain wrong. Also to the customers who didn't offer for people ahead of them on a long line to go first you're incredibly selfish and self absorbed. Watch the cash register. Doesn't ring up prices right. Read your receipts. Meant to confuse. Examine your receipt for how items are listed and charged. Look at the cost of produce too high. I have been shopping at this market for years since it was remodeled because it's convenient but from now on I am going to go to king kullen. Every time I go to the deli counter in this store the staff is either rude, incompetent or just plain lazy. They make so many mistakes but this last time I ordered a half pound of Finlandia Swiss sliced and the girl behind the counter gave me Boars Head Swiss. The kicker.....she charged me for the more expensive Finlandia. Now granted it's a difference of only about $5- so it's not going to break the bank BUT if I wanted the cheaper less flavorful version of Swiss cheese, I would have asked for it. I have complained to management about all the other times the deli counter people have messed up and apparently they don't do anything about the lazy obnoxious staff behind the counter but this feels more like straight up theft to me. I had such high hopes for our new Stop and Shop, but alas, I was wrong. Poorly stocked (3 common items I went looking for today were out of stock), rude or indifferent employees ("do you have______?" "No we're out"). Did you check the back? Did you ask someone else to check the back? No and no. And this is not the first time Stop and Shop has been a disappointment. In comparing notes with my neighbors, we all sadly concur that the beautiful, well run local supermarket we all eagerly anticipated is a huge disappointment. This is the absolute worst stop&shop I've ever been to. Normally I love the stop&shop chain but this location has a horrible design and selection (even after their renovation that took months! what a waste). It's bigger and cleaner than the previous store but the grocery section looks like they picked through a dumpster for the vegetables. I never saw so many limp old looking produce. The store is not well organized and limited. Parking lot is a nightmare. Your best bet is to park behind the store in the larger lot. The upside is that they have sufficient cashiers so there are not long lines. read more

Visiting from out of town, I went this Stop and Shop in Merrick, NY, dirty aisles, poor selection, RUDE STAFF. I walked outside and there was an old BMW convertible with no windows or back parked in a handicapped parking spot in front of the store. The car was playing loud music; the owner was nowhere in sight. Finally a Stop and Shop employee looked at me after I informed him he could not park there, he replied that " he worked there and could do whatever he wanted." The store manager, Jamie, came out side and commented "i was a problem customer", after just spending 200 bucks, a problem customer indeed. The manager did not advise her employee to move his car, but he finally did. He proceeded to spit at me with no mask on, what is going on with this company, I would like an explanation. This is absolutely the worst Stop&Shop location I have ever been to...everything is so difficult to find. On top of that some of the staff is absolutely insane. There was a tall skinny blonde girl at the self checkout that seemed if you bothered her from her staring contest with the floor she would lose it. As I was leaving the store, she went into my cart to take out an extra plastic bag that I mistakenly took into my cart while bagging my things. She grabbed it so quickly that she ripped my grocery bag causing my things to fall over. No apology or anything. This is a terrible Supermarket, especially because it's a Stop&Shop. I've been to a few other Stop&Shops and think they're really nice. This once should be out of business. There are many issues with this place including: * Extreme lack of selection. Hard to find a lot of stuff here you'd find in normal Supermarkets. * Dirty. It looks like they haven't cleaned here in years. * The fruit looks like it was taken out of the garbage from another grocery store. None of the fruit is fresh. Twice, I've gone here to get one orange and couldn't because they all appeared rotten. * They have a guy who goes around putting shopping carts back. However, the last couple of times I went to find a shopping cart there were none. The place wasn't packed and, aside from a few scattered in the lot, I have no idea where they could have been. * There are a couple of nice cashiers, but most are rude and seem miserable there. I go here still, on occasion, because it's in walking distance, but I find it it to be worth the trip to King Kullen in Bellmore or Shoprite in Uniondale for a full shop because these places are better on so many levels. read more

Though I have multiple issues about this S&S store at Merrick Mall the latest one I now finds me declaring I'll never step inside of this pathetic store ever again. I had a simple return, with receipt. Ahead of me was a gentleman conducting some transaction with the Customer Service woman. I heard the customer say a couple totally benign and light conversational comments during this, and then noticed that the Customer Service lady was quite rude to the customer with her attitude, words and actions. When that was finished, I proceeded to show her my return with receipt. I'm always courteous and polite myself, and want to be upbeat with store staffs. However, this woman was very rude and displayed a despicable attitude, talking to me like I was a filthy cockroach! I did complete the return, but by then I was gritting my teeth and steam was probably coming out of my ears. Although I am now retired, I have experience in customer relationship marketing including in retail business, and first rule is to be courteous and polite to all customers, because the corporate office doesn't want to lose business because some employee hates his or her job and has a horrible life (like customers' don't have problems also), and leaves the customer base wondering why they would shop here at all. I sometimes shop at two other Stop & Shops in the area, which I do like very much, but they are not as near to my home. None of them are stocked as badly, have as badly designed constructed access in and out, lack of shopping carts, and other problems as those in this Merrick store. And, none of them have rude grumpy discourteous employees like the Customer Service person I dealt with today. Their produce selection is decent so I gave this review 3 stars. The store offers whatever items you need in a pinch however compared to some of your other choices in the area their selection is not as good. They redesigned the aisles so it is a little easier to maneuver however still not the best design. Used my Stop & Shop card to pre order cold cuts. Started off in produce near the deli and not a customer in sight. Continued shopping for about 15 min and still no notification that my order was ready. Went back to the deli counter and still no customers. A man walked up and placed an order. I then asked the woman behind the counter if my order was completed and she told me I had to hit the red button and get a ticket. I explained to her that I placed an order when I entered the store. Much much better than the old dump that was there. I live right down the block so its nice to see it opened and really clean and well spaced out. The only thing that was lacking was the frozen food area much smaller than the Bellmore or East Meadow one i normally frequent oh well. What a difference after the renovation! Before the renovation, this place looked like a run down ghetto-style supermarket. But after the renovation and expansion, it is now a clean, modern store. It is very well stocked, plus it has a nice bakery and selection of natural foods. Walking in today you would have no idea what the store was like before. Prices are moderate, though not the lowest, but still a better deal than King Kullen. An ample amount of registers and checkouts, despite being busy I usually don't have to wait too long on line. Be careful when you go to shop at this Stop and Shop, not just for possible rotten carot juice or outdated meat as well as expired frozen seafood once a while found on the shelves or in the freezer but also for a fierce woman probably working as head cashier/ management team member clerk. She easily got mad and screamed at my face just because I asked for a proper lottery tickets receipt that she doesn't know how to operate the register to get it right. She immediately without manner shouted with aggressive gestures to throw me out of the store :" get out " " get out " " get out " " or I will call the police" Don't even hope to get the problem fixed by calling the manager. I was still trying to stay calm although shaking because of being shocked and furious. First thing he did was lying that he heard me yelling from the other side of the store. He lied to cover up for his colleague and to shut me off from saying any thing. What a monstrosity, a deformity of the Stop and Shop business. It's supposed to be a neighborhood friendly store but actually a NEIGHBORHOOD SCARY STORE. Worst experience! Frank in produce was aggressive and unprofessional over grapes! He tried to intimidate me by staring at me then yelled at me for taking grapes out of the package. then yelled to his co worker that I didn't want to pay full price for organic grapes and to pull the container I opened and continued to talk about me and stare at his co worker after I told him to mind his own business. He then followed me over to the Mgr and stood there as I told the Mgr what happened then proceeded to fight w me, lie, and get aggressive with me. The Mgr did nothing as he yelled at me, except offer a insincere apology instead of telling the bully to walk away! I have never experienced this level of unprofessionalism, terrible management, aggression from a stop n shop employee before. I am spoiled by much nicer, newer Stop&Shops, that have self-check outs and price Zappers (love those things!) so this might seem a bit biased. But this place is pitiable. It is like someone took a neighborhood grocery store and slapped the Stop&Shop logo over the original sign. The place is small, probably the smallest S&S I've ever been to, but that doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is the following: the place is filthy, the produce aisle is seriously lacking in produce and what produce IS there is scattered about or not restocked (think cherries next to artichokes...huh???), the check out aisles are too small and the staff is nonexistent. My biggest criticism however, is the fact that THERE ARE NO PRICES ON ANYTHING. I have to scour for prices and sometimes they just don't exist at all. I have no idea what a pound of nectarines costs, but there are plenty of nectarines to be found, just no sign saying how much they are. Or how much 3lbs of ground turkey costs. I'd love to buy it, if it fit into my budget, but I can't, because I don't know if I'm being ripped off or not. This makes it so hard to shop for ANYTHING when you are trying to keep a grocery budget. I don't even feel comfortable asking the minimal staff I can find - they are very unapproachable and seem like they hate working at S&S. I will definitely NOT be going back anytime soon.
