Lidl has some items that are great deals and others that are expensive depending on what it is. Best to check their weekly ad to see what the best deals are for the week. Some deals are limited time meaning only on the weekend. They have some interesting items from time to time. I've gotten a kid's play kitchen for my daughter for a great price a couple years ago. They tend to have great toys especially around the holidays that are priced well. The appearance of the store has run down in the last couple of years. Noticeably some of the floors wore out from ware and tare. They also reduced the number of cashier check outs and have focused more on self-checkouts. They recently installed anti theft barriers when you enter and exit the store. When you pay now in the self checkout area you need to scan your receipt to exit the area. There is an employee there still to help out at the self checkout area if someone needs assistance or you prefer to check out with them if there are no regular cashier lines open. read more

This is another newer Lidl here in Merrick. I am also glad that LIDl came here. This is a big-bright-spacious store with wide isles and plenty to choose from. They clearly take many steps to bring you as much food as they can at the best prices they can. Great food selection, service from their very helpful team members. Since this is part of an International chain, most stores mirror each other. I came to a LIDL while in Poland and the look and feel is exactly the same. First time in this location and still managed to buy a fair amount of groceries. Remember... This is not your King Kullen or Stop & Shop. It is not the place to come for all your name brand items. This is how they're different. They move a lot of product here. Very simply displayed. They also have nice wide isles. Makes it easy to move around This is not a flashy store. Works for me... Less glitz more value pricing. In some cases, they cut the box and put it on a shelf. Again, just another way to save us some money on our grocery bills. They also have a very comprehensive supply of meats here too. There are no butchers, fish counters or bakeries here. All the food is packaged in refrigerators and freezers. This is a large location and I was very impressed with the amount of freezers here. Most brands are house brands, hence the ability to save some money on your shopping bills. Bakery items are all packaged. They still have a fair amount of well know brands. Remember to bring your own bags, they are not supplied by LIDL I think they'll do well as people become accustomed to their methodology and I definitely recommend this store. Lidl isn't the type of store where you can do all of your grocery shopping and be done with it. Granted, it's a bit different and not all prices are good prices; you have to know what the items you're purchasing cost elsewhere, otherwise you might wind up paying more. However, some of their store-brand prices are pretty decent. With that said, I purchase the same store-brand items that I like each week and browse around for additional items while doing so. Easy enough. I will continue to shop at Lidl in the future but not at this particular Merrick location. There is a tall, skinny, black worker (I'd guess he's a manager because he wears a different outfit than others in the store) who could use additional corporate training on RESPECT and POLITENESS towards customers using self-checkout. And of course, if you're using credit card at the Merrick location, you have no choice other than to use self-checkout. But there are other Lidl stores I'm perfectly happy visiting. So Lidl is not a grocery store for everything or everybody. Some prices and products are good and worth stopping in for in addition to the regular grocery shopping you do elsewhere. read more

Lidl Merrick has declined horribly!! 2nd time I've gone in and the store is untidy. Puddles of water on the floors by the refrigerators. Empty freezer space. No one on the floor to help. I watched a customer take a donut out of the glass cabinet and proceed to eat it!! Lidl Merrick needs corporate to come see the way this store is no longer managed properly. The service here is appalling. There no longer any manned registers, and the self service machines are finicky and poorly designed. You will constantly need help as items placed on the scale do not register correctly, and a loud voice will helpfully shout at you at maximum volume to scan your next item. The machines used to have sensible parameters set, and were easy to use. Further, they were augmented by several manned registers so that people who preferred human interactions could be accommodated. This is no longer the case. This is such a pity. I have shopped here since they opened after Best Market closed. The staff were friendly and helpful, but nowadays they are missing. Skip this dump and shop someplace that treats you better. read more

Leeeeeedill? Lie-Dill? Don't know how to pronounce it, don't care. LIDL is the new German grocery on the block, that bought out Best Market. It's -- vastly-- different than last year. But before I start picking them apart let's start with the positive.... The GOOD: - Bright, well lit, open until 10pm EVERYday! - Like their namesake, prices are shockingly low for certain items. I don't eat beef, but occasionally cook for those that do. Their base prices aren't terrible, but they'll put grass fed, organic steaks on sale. On one of my runs I grabbed single cyrovac'd sirloins for $2.50! Strip Steaks are about $5 each on sale (also grass fed). Store brand organic tortilla chips are $2.19 before any coupons, which beats out WF/365 and stop and shop. - Meat is overall good quality - Nothing is terrible but nothing is AMAZING! - You'll come across some absolutely strange international food. Why not try something different? I bought spaetzle last time! - On premises bakery with small batch items. - Fair amount of organic options (just not produce) - Store brand items keep things cheap but they carry brands I'd normally buy such as KIND, Health-aide(kombucha), Oikos etc - Private label/Store brand craft beers aren't terrible. Brewed in NOVA. 6 packs under $8. The BAD: - No deli, No fish market, No fresh prepped salads or juices like best market had - Prepackaged stuff everrrrrrywhere. Think trader joes, but not as "specialty". - Weird home-goods section? Why not just have more grocery? I don't need to buy cheap cutting boards and off brand grandma flip flops. - Never enough checkout lines open The UGLY: - Stock slips out the door faster than a teenager pocketing condoms @ CVS. You'll see lots of empty shelves if you like to shop super late or super early. - Produce does not last that long. I've taken home a few things that went moldy real quick so just keep an eye out - Gets busy/crowded - Their frozen fish selection is mostly Salmon, Shrimp and Tilapia (ew). Scallops looked ok but would rather buy fresh. - Great prices for flowers/plants but they're mostly dead. Why would you go here?: Despite it's limitations, lidl absolutely serves a purpose. If I'm having folks over for small (COVID friendly, promise!) gathering, I could grab a bunch of chips, cheese, sopressata/salami, carrots, hummus and have a decent pickin' selection for under $15. If half of it doesn't get eaten and sits out for 5 hours, oh well! In the trash you go! Would I find fresh burrata and olive tapenade there? NO - absolutely not, but that's what North shore farms & Whole paycheck are for! Worth a look for some pantry staples. Unsure if the $10 off $30 coupon was just a promo for being "new", but if you can get one of those it's worth it for the organic beans, oats, etc! read more

Ikea morphed into a supermarket. Prices are cheap, selection is as well. I don't know, I just don't get a warm an fuzzy shopping there.

I decided to visit this new location in Merrick. I normally go to the one in East Meadow. Its very close to my job. I will continue to go to the one in East Meadow because I can go on my lunch hour, I can run over real quick etc. that being said. This location is really nice compared to the one in East Meadow. It's huge and the presentation of the meats, seafood, frozen foods are great! So much more room freezer wise. I also like where the bakery is. In East Meadow their bakery is right where you enter. So customers tend to slow down to look at the bakery and it becomes jammed. Kinda annoying. They have my cat litter. $5.53 for a big container. Lidls has a habit of discontinuing my favorite items which can be annoying. Case of root beer and Sheba for cats. Noticed it at the Merrick location as well. If I can't get to the one in East Meadow, I would definitely swing by this location. read more

I had a nasty experience with a manager here Tuesday evening , 3/12/'24 , between 7:15 and 7:45 , and will try to report on it directly to the company . BACKGROUND : Now , this is a tough place to review , because there is so little consistency at this location , but certainly would not argue with anyone rating this place with one or two stars ...... I have been shopping here two or three times a month since last Easter ( for at least 10 months ) whenever I get off Meadowbrook to check out the Home Goods here , so I know what I'm looking for and have a set routine . Aside from a few bars of white chocolate and marzipan , I ONLY SHOP HERE FOR FROZEN FOOD BECAUSE THE WAY LIDL STACKS BOXES ON TOP OF OPEN BOXES IS , FRANKLY , UNSANITARY . But that does not generally apply to frozen items , many of which are unusual European or Asian products . I started shopping here because the self serve platforms are not weighted : you can buy three identical packages and just swipe the same one three times ........ NOW , I ENCOUNTERED A REALLY RUDE , SELF IMPORTANT MANAGER FOR THE FIRST TIME ON 3/12 . IN PUSHING A CART DOWN THE " FROZEN " AISLE . CHECKING CERTAIN BINS , HE SHOWED NO CONSIDERATION TOWARDS ANY SHOPPERS : excuse me , pardon me , were not in his vocabulary . When one patron's children were running wild around the store , he did nothing . HOWEVER , HE DID OPEN HIS BIG , OFFICIOUS MOUTH WHEN I TRIED CHECKING OUT MY FOOD ! He insisted that I stack everything on the dirty platform ( I had exactly 7 items ) . Having never encountered problems here before , I was shocked . He told me my practice was a problem now and when I tried showing him everything in my little Target bag he insisted he could not see anything , then directed me to regular checkout , policing me as I did so ........... This location is relatively empty every time I shop ; you can easily count all the patrons on any visit . Despite having a Home Goods , a gym and other businesses in this center to draw shoppers , there is never more than a trickle here . Trader Joe's , less than 100 yards away and far more expensive , is packed every night . Perhaps , despite so much advertising , management has something to do with it ? ....... There are countless other grocery venues nearby , so I am certain that if Merrick HG ever relocated , this venue would tank . But if you do come here , you might prefer using Trader Joe's immaculate lavatories around the corner ........... read more

Love European Lidls and was excited when saw it opened in New York State. Too soon - for excitement. Yesterday was my last day shopping there. When I saw price increase on almost everything (!) such as bread that was around $5 for the German loaf only weeks ago at $7.19, I knew it would be my last day alas alas. The list is huge. I used to buy IPA beer, but even if the price is still the same, the last 6 pack I bought was all suds, and the store wouldn't take it back. Trader Joe's is right around the corner, and somehow they still manage to keep their prices more or less stable. Plus you can return anything you don't like. No questions asked. I went to the Lidl store in Merrick today. First impression today was that some of the chopped meat was turning gray. The meat cases and vegetable and fruit had minimal inventory. I picked up a couple of items and proceeded to check out. I noticed there was only one cash register open with about 10 people on line. The cashier was missing and everyone was wondering what was going on. There we're no other employees around, nevermind a manager. I really don't know how they will stay in business. Lidl is different, but it's more of an event than a weekly shop. What will they have on the shelves? No one knows so that's exciting. They also play a nice mix of 80's hip hop and R&B. The food is so inexpensive you have to love it. We only go once a month for fun, but it's worth it. We got some amazing golf balls, ice pops, steaks and a lawnmower. I was at Lidl today in North Merrick, New York, 4-7-21 around 4 pm. I am SO DISAAPOINTED and have to share this. I asked the cashier to please get someone to walk me to my car (this is not his fault and I appreciate that his hands were tied and the lines were crazy long, (they need self-check register) .. I would have done that immediately. I was told they "don't offer that service". How about being a Human Being in this world ... especially right now... come one. you are a new location, and this is how you have trained your management team? I am in my 50's and was having a fainting/sugar issue. The lines were long, and I ran in to buy orange juice, grapes and maybe 2 other things because I felt off. As I'm on-line, I was shaking, sweat was on my face and apparently I was in distress. I had a hard time trying to get my sugar pills out of pocketbook, etc. I was holding onto the whatever I could, the conveyor belt, etc. I was bent over (ready to fall), and I know it was apparent to others something was wrong. I ended up sitting on a seat of a motorized shopping cart. The cashier kept watching out of the corner of his eye - he felt bad. I stayed there for a while in order to cool down. This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. This was Terrible Customer Service - I am so disgruntled and am sharing this terrible experience. read more

I heard about this store because it was supposed to be similar to Aldi. My grandma recommended that I try to check out flowers here. I looked online and saw that new flowers would come in today. Unfortunately you can't call the store since they mention it's a good way to save money. Also there's no way to check stock on the app. The app constantly crashes and glitches as well. So I came in person to see what they would have and they didn't have much of what I wanted. Majority of the flowers were rotting or withering. The ones that weren't were annuals which I didn't want. I wanted flowers that would come back yearly. They also had plants indoor. I got the best peony plant and one of the best hanging plants that were on sale. I was disappointed with most of the flowers dying since a lot of these were just put out the same day. They should be taking better care of their flowers, it's a waste. I wanted to get another peony bush but the rest were in terrible condition. The prices are great though. I got a hanging plant on sale for about $7 and the peony bush was under $20. If you can find plants that aren't dead then it's great. They also have a decent selection of food items and new deals weekly. read more

Yellow tag prices are great, if the item remains in stock. Definitely not somewhere I can do a standard grocery shop at but for some things the value is there. The main gripe as others have mentioned is there is never enough cash registers open. No one offers to help bag, I mean I can handle it but at least help the older people if they need it. read more
