I have been here a few times now. I waited to give my opinion based off a few dishes. The building itself is a an old looking place that is in a real need to spend money updating, heck everything . The place really tests your faith in a food prep area and the temperature your food is kept. They, like a lot of small independent fish markets need to take a day and just clean EVERYTHING a customer sees. On to the food, this trip I ordered the dinner plate it consisted of 3 pieces of the fish of my choice and 10 large shrimp along with fries a second side and a roll. It took about 12 mins to receive the food and the provide you with a pager. I wanted a smaller plate but they only have the option of 3 pieces or a 5 piece meal nothing for smaller appetites. This is a togo spot there is no inside dinning so all orders should come with your condiment breakdowns or you should be asked your desire. I was already on the freeway in traffic before I noticed the 2 most important condiments were not in my bag!!! The ketchup nor any hot sauce.! This almost got them a one star review for it. Im not even a big spicy girl and I was appalled it wasn't included. So I had to eat dry a$$ fries and try a bit of tartar sauce (which isn't my favorite thing in the first place) but who serves fries without at least offering ketchup? I asked for my shrimp to be lightly fried ( so they wouldn't taste like rubber) and he cooked them almost perfectly crisp. The fish was cooked lightly crisp as well This is why I didn't give a one star. The batter was light and flaky with much flavor generally not being a spicy girl I appreciate when the batter isn't what I deem spicy, but even I would have added a tinge of pepper flavoring to give a pop of extra flavor. The container is probably a highlight here they keep the food in cardboard. Now if you don't know plastic (all plastic is terrible for your body (the particles that come off of it and warming your food in them are definitely cancer callers) so this helps for safety and how your food sweats inside the container cardboard with holes always food to stay in its intended form fries in generally breathe better and don't get soggy like and less the crispness. So thanks for that. But please please clean the windows and the freezers they just look dingy. Who I go back? Only in an emergency. And that consists of the other place I like being closed as this place is open until 8. So anytime I need some fried fish after 640 this is that spot! read more

The food is pretty good. My issue are the prices have went up too much. almost 35% and are higher than most fish locations. Its best to call in your order because the lot has sketchy people hanging some times. service is good i never had a issue even with the lady others would complain about ...she was always cool to me personally do customers a favor and create better priced combos and more options to switch items they want read more

For beginners it's over priced for what you receive in food portion and service . I ordered the fillet sole with shrimp & Tilapia with greens mac and cheese and fry's The sole shrimp and Tilapia taste like it was fried in the same grease as the chicken disgusting, fish was fairly fresh sides were small portions i mean even the hot sauce was skimp , however the greens were pretty good , the older man behind the counter rushed me to place my order i found that rude once ordered i received a buzzer and chose to wait in my car the ambiance was a bit ran down for my preference overall i won't eat there again and wouldn't recommend . read more

Love the Red Snapper Fish, and Fried Chicken here at Fish King Market. Our first time eating at this location. We ordered several different foods, and it was a fried fish party. The fish was good and cooked very well . Loved the skin/batter on the fish . So good and the cheddar cheese had like a gang of real cheddar. Crazy cheddar . Bread was good and the tarter sauce was. Now I don't know about price as my friend brought me the fish . read more

I've been going to this place over the years, and with Covid impacting businesses negatively this year, I was worried they'd closed down or something. Good news is that they remain open, and with outside seating and all, it's actually nice change. We tried several dishes (see photo) and they were all good. Food was served timely and at right temps, tasted fresh, and good presentation. We also had appetizers and those were good too. Service rated at 4 stars because of some missed request, but overall good. Covid hygiene protocols were highlighted, and observed. I continue to recommend this place. read more

This place only survives because they accept EBT! anyone who would spend their hard earned money here is a fool! Or simply has poor judgement. I ordered a 15 piece jumbo shrimp w/ fries. The shrimp were instead medium sized, breaded poorly areas of plain shrimp was visible and the breading didn't have a crunch the first! , the shrimp was seasoned poorly and over cooked and I didn't even get to fries because why? I am a local and have never came because it is the Walmart of fish joints from the exterior and the crowd of ppl that keeps this place going, now that I've tasted it smh Never again at any time!!! I purchased a fish and shrimp dinner for 16.00. And the shrimp were supposed to be medium the are Xtra small. What a waste of money. I had asked the owner about the fish and shrimp being so small he was very rude and said that thats what it is. I will never come here again and would advise you not to either. read more

You know how sometimes you drive past your old neighborhood and instantly the nostalgia hits you? Well that's what happened to me today. Thought I'd try this place after nearly 12 years of leaving the area.. why did I do this?! Ok here is the one positive- I was able to call in the food over the phone which was great. Now the food.. horrible just horrible. The fish wasn't good, the fries were salty. The Mac n cheese looks like Kraft mnc, the coleslaw was runny and nasty. Lord I'm so disappointed... If you do business here, please make sure you verify the prices of your orders listed on the internet. The owner is irresponsible and takes advantage of the community. Not updating info is wrong and overcharging customers is wrong. King Fish Market on Atlantic in Long Beach Ca .King Bucket listed 34.99 and they charged 48.00. The oysters and shrimp are cut into tiny pieces and who can tell what you are eating. Not a good business! read more

I REPEAT DO NOT EAT HERE THEY SELL YOU SPOILED FOOD I AM A RETURNING COSTUMER AND never had an issue till today! Went back to let them know they served us some spoiled shrimp and I didn't want my order anymore the lady behind the counter was extremely rude and was giving us the run around about a refund because she said she couldn't find the receipt and so I pulled up the charge from bank to show her, when she in fact knew we ordered from there then she act like she couldn't find it all along the owner is in the back letting this go on and he finally comes after about 15 minutes back and fourth and find the receipt and doesn't apologize or anything!! Over this weekend I went here to buy some fish. Not a good place to go. The owner had a terrible attitude. I was late getting my order (others who complained got theirs first even though they came in later after me). The fish was fried too hard, the cole slaw was milky, and the potato salad was dry. I wanted to like it since it's very close to my home and I'm pescatarian and I like to go to small mom and pop businesses. First strike, person behind counter very antisocial, didn't even get a Hi. If the food was good I wouldn't even care but the food (red snapper fish and chips) wasn't. French fries were undercooked/soggy and the fish so overcooked at least 25% was inedible it was so hard and dry. Breading had no spice. Worst coleslaw I've had ... ever, actually spit it out. Highlight was the tartar sauce. It was decent. It was about $30 for two meals so not a bargain either. Will not be returning. read more

It was worth the wait! They make it to order with whatever fish you choose. The lady at the register was very knowledgeable. I think she may have been the owner. The only downside was everyone had their masks below their chin, which makes it pointless to even have on. Therefore, I might wait a bit to return just because I didn't feel safe. I will neverrrrrrr go back to this rude ass fish market! First of all you have to tell them to fry your fish hard and put extra seasoning on it for it to taste like anything, secondly the Asian man is VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY RUDE and will overcharge you if you are not careful. Do not order the chicken and fish unless you're prepared to have PARTY WINGS at the REGULAR wing price! If you order a lot of fish this man will only give you two tartar sauces then give an attitude when you ask for more and when you remind him of your order he still has. an attitude !!! Never willl I recommend this place to anyone, spend your money and be treated with such disregard! read more

The food came out in good time and everything tasted awesome. The lobster tail is a little tough but the taste overshadows that. Good portions and really good customer service, the cashier was helpful and eager to help us decide on what to order. They immediately cleaned the tables after people left and even gave us a free keychain. You can tell these people really care, would come again

I also wanted fish, but didn't want to buy a whole dinner. The cashier told me I could get a single piece of fish. I believe it was $2.50 per piece. I love filet sole. It's thin and I like it crispy! The oysters were not big, but came with a lot of smaller pieces. I like the bigger oysters so I could taste more oyster than breading, but this did the trick as well! Smaller pieces, but more pieces! I love hush puppies! These were more crispy on the outside! When my order was ready, I asked for extra tartar and hot sauce. She gave me one and one little cup each. When I opened the bag, to my surprise there was a set of sauces in the dinner and for my single piece of fish! I'm so happy that I got so much tartar and hot sauce! I'm a dunker! The tartar sauce was more herby, like a ranch and not creamy like mayo. But still delicious! Especially when you mix it with hot sauce! This place is a small fish market, no tables. Just a few seats to wait for your food.

But when I did...my nose was violently assaulted the the aroma of someone's "Big Momma's or Grandfather's" kitchen. The cozy, warm, aromatic atmosphere engulfed us like a warm quilt, as we walked in from the rain. The gentleman we passed outside by the door walked in behind us and welcomed us as if we were expected for Sunday dinner at Big Momma's House! No, that is NOT the name of this magical kitchen, but maybe it... No, it is even appropriately named. I dont know what the "R" stands for, maybe its a play on the Southern dialect, for "Our?" or does it stand for someone's name? I'm sure the meaning of the "R" has everything to do with why the meal I have become so overwhelmingly familiar with is so consistently "Smack a Momma" good. Now, I'm not a professional food critic. But, I know my way around a few pots and skillets. I'm just an average Kentucky-raised, over-60, consistently looking for a good meal when I get hungry, don't feel like cooking or understands when my wife doesn't feel like cooking either, type of guy. My wife actually turned me on to "R-Kitchen"- in Lakewood. Her and her friends were out a while ago and called me at home asking if I wanted to try this kitchen's cooking. After 5 wife deliveres plates (all the smothered turkey wings) throughout several months, I finally experienced the personal down-home touch and smells of Lakewood's R-Kitchen. I've promised myself to explore the entire menu by ordering something different on each visit going forward. So, stay tuned, as I work off my last meal to make room for the next.
