LOVE their egg rolls. Best in the bay, as far as I'm concerned. Haven't tried any of their other food, just their egg rolls. I bought a huge party platter for SB sunday, and they were a massive hit! Everyone LOVED them. I ordered 50 egg rolls, and they were ready in about 15-20 min. Go EARLY.... the line can get long (sometimes out the door and down the strip mall). Not sure why so many people get so annoyed that it is CASH ONLY. Yeah, they don't have it posted in their establishment, but it has ALWAYS been a Cash Only place. If you know this ahead of time, BRING CASH. Not difficult. Why then complain, if you know this. Don't get some of the bad reviews. Five stars for their eggrolls. The best around. I tend to disagree with what others have said concerning reheating. I think they taste really good reheated in the microwave. I typically pick up 100-200 depending on size of the party and never need to call ahead. For King Eggroll, 100-200 is a drop in the bucket. read more

As an East Side San Jose resident and an alumnus of Independence High School, you can bet I've had my fair share of King Egg Rolls. Their marquee dish, the egg roll, is almost perfection. Granted, I'm a Filipino who's pretty much been spoiled by his own lumpia recipe, but King Egg Roll probably makes the meanest egg roll in the bay. Why? Just about everything. They fry the roll to utter perfection. The wrap is not hard by any means, but it's also as crunchy as a kettle potato chip. The ingredients inside, from the lettuce, to the beansprouts, to the little bits of pork are simply cooked to perfect and healthy consistency. King Egg Rolls along with their sweet and sour sauce are simply amazing. The best thing about King Egg Rolls is that everything is fairly priced and you can easily do phone orders to pick them up for parties later. A tray will cost you around $25-50 depending on how much you order, and among these items include fried chicken (which is cooked to a great Chinese consistency), their greasy yet tasty fishballs, their chow mein, their fried rice, and other stereotypical food choices that you'd have with your average Chinese-style takeout. The main gripe here is that it's cash only, but hey, it's Asian-owned, and it's Lundy. Come on, I can't think of any stores in the area that take anything but cash. But whether it's for a party, or simply your own time to pigout, King Egg Roll is a great spot. You can get a hearty meal for $4.50, a tray of goodness at a party for more than $25, and you'll leave extremely happy. This would get a perfect rating if they took cards as payment. read more

But I love how going to school far away, I can run into someone else from home and we can bond over how AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS their eggrolls are :) I live about mile from here, and my mom always used to get their party trays of eggrolls back in the day. Yummie. What a great snack. This review is only for their egg rolls (regular) as I didn't order anything else. I'm not sure I could make a dinner out of them as they are a bit greasy (no greasier than they should be), but they are great to have a few as a snack! They were cooked to perfection and had great flavor. The food here was delicious. We had some bomb egg rolls, fried shu mai, fried chicken, and shrimp balls. Customer service wise- was a bit off for me. We did placed the order via phone call, I'm sure the miscommunication affected both sides. We tried to order 18 egg rolls and chow mien. She tried to talk us up to 24, we didn't want as much, so she talked us down to 12... I figured, we'll order the 12, and when I go pick up, I'll order 6 more.. Our chow mien order, we didn't know they only serve party trays until 10:30 AM. We placed the order, and I got there in about 10 minutes to pick up. The super large party tray size of chow mien was already made and wrapped. We wanted a smaller size, and she just kept telling us, she can't. The can only sell that size. So I stepped aside to make a phone call to see how the rest of my party feels about it. As I was on the phone, the older lady started talking to the younger one - in Vietnamese - and as a Vietnamese person, myself, Yes, I did hear & understood it all. I understand it's slightly annoying that the wrong sized was ordered and made in 10 minutes, but you do not have to disrespect me. I only stepped aside to confirm with my size, if the size was okay. In the end, she was only going to sell me that large party tray or none at all. With the attitude they were giving me, in English and then talking bad about me in Vietnamese. We passed on it. Sorry you guys had to spend less than 10 minutes to make that party tray, but you didn't have to be rude about it. She shoved my bag at me, while ringing me up, she was already ignoring me and talking to the person behind me. No more eye contact, no more words to me. I had to ask for extras after she rung me up. The food here is great especially the eggrolls, but it's so busy the staff CONSTANTLY get orders wrong. Like every time I go damned near. Tonight I ordered a combo plate and 4 spring rolls. My rolls weren't even added to my order when it came time to pay. When I asked for them at the register I said "4 spring rolls please, all veggie", got home only to find they were all pork. I was so frustrated I lost my appetite and the food went to the trash because there was no one else around to eat it, and it's not the same reheated. So why do we continue to go and constantly get good reviews? It's comfort food folks. We don't expect top notch quality or being health conscious. Prices are cheap, food comes fast, and portions are good. Don't have high expectations or you might be disappointed. There are so many choices, so there is always something to try if you are tired of the same thing you always get. The highlight of the place are the egg rolls. Those on the contrary never get tired. The quality and taste have been consistent through the years. The shrimp balls are also a very tasty affair that never seems to get old. This place does get busy. Not the most suitable place to eat during their busy hours. Lines get long, but move smoothly. It doesn't help that there isn't much room either. I would suggest taking the food to go. After trying the steamed pork bun, I felt compelled to compliment it. I attached a picture on the filling and I have to say I was impressed. The filling and bun ratio was perfect. Usually there's too much bun and not enough filling. The only thing I didn't like about the filling was the egg inside. It was a bit over cooked/hard for my taste. But aside from that, the flavor was great, loved the extra texture the chopped water chestnuts gave, and I just love the size (despite the fact that I can't finish it in one sitting). Anyway, I don't like this place because it's extra tiny! Only about 3 or 4 tables! It's always crowded! And I feel dirty coming here because it's not the cleanest of places! Wow. Who knew the best eggroll place opened up by my house years and years ago? I always appreciated them as the best eggrolls in San Jose, but it wasn't until I lived in San Diego and OC that I learned that King Egg Rolls were the BEST EGGROLLS EVER!!!! I kid you not, it did not hit a competitor in SD or OC that could come close to its supremacy. Even OC, where the Viet community is about a quarter of a million: they couldn't even hit the mark! I have no idea how they're able to get the wrapper crispy and puffy like that, but it's amazing! As for the sweet and sour sauce, an eggroll doesn't need sauce to be good, and this eggroll DEFINITELY does not need it to be delish :D How I thee. My boyfriend is in love with the egg rolls here. No matter when, if someone brings up egg rolls, he'll want to have some egg rolls from here. I'm not big on egg rolls so when he decides that he wants this for dinner, I'll only agree to it if they have the dry rice noodles with beef and shrimp. It comes prepackaged and is usually set out in front of the counter, but they run out of these pretty fast. They usually don't have too many of these each day. So unless you go in the morning, you probably won't be able to get one. If you're planning to have egg rolls for your party, make sure you call in and make the order ahead of time so that you don't have to wait. We've tried the combo plates and sandwiches from here as well, there's nothing too special about it. Probably the best egg rolls I've ever had outside my mother's kitchen :). I also recommend trying the pate chaud pastries stuffed with chicken and mushrooms! Absolutely delicious! These have got to be one of the worst eggrolls I've ever had. It erks me having to even call them 'egg rolls'. Sucha disgrace. For a vietnamese place, you guys disappoint me on so many level. I think I can fry at least 4 eggs with the amount of oil I can squeeze outta these suckers. The stuffing has NO flavor whatsoever. It's disgusting. Combo Plate ($6.99 exc tax) : fried rice, salt and pepper chicken, and chicken skewer. Usually at chinese delis, they will fill my box up with so much food that I can spit it into 2 meals, but not here! They give you the bare minimum so you can't complain and wont be full either. Tastes like added pineapple. They have Dim sum and to-go plates. I usually get the beef and broccoli, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken ... King Eggroll over Panda Express anyday Sesame balls are bomb too, it's worth the inexpensive price ... and be prepared for "cash only".
