The King Edward Pub; Customers Beware!!!
What was a nice evening with friends turned out to be somewhat shocking! We went to Ilderton to eat at The King Edward Pub (Customers Beware)-apparently it is no longer up to the customer to tip or not to tip! We have never encountered such nerve shown by a owner of a business! When we went to leave we were bombarded by the owner inquiring if we had a problem with her server. We said No!She then proceeded to say, "Why didn't you tip her?" We were stunned to be asked such a question. Tom had left a $5 tip and our friends were just discussing what they were going to leave but before they decided what they were going to do, the owner stopped us. (Our friends were just about to go back and leave a tip because they both thought each other had already tipped and when they realized that neither one did, they were on their way to put 1 on the table when we were confronted!)
Needless to say, I am disgusted that an owner of an establishment would have the nerve to ask a paying customer, which each couple just paid $75-$90 for our food & refreshments, why we didn't tip and was very ignorant about it and insisted that we tip! Yes we could've tipped more and we're going to but our server wasn't overly exceptional. She did get $5 but apparently that wasn't enough! We did have an issue during our dinner. We did mention to the waitress that our nacho chips were stale and all she did was shrug it off! She didn't apologize or compensate us in any way. We did not make a scene, we just mentioned it and carried on eating! We had no idea that we were going to be confronted upon leaving this establishment with an issue. Once she confronted us, I of course felt the need to stand my ground and informed this owner with the following information; "As a customer last time I checked, it was our prerogative to tip!" This got the owner more upset and she kicked us out of the establishment and banned us from coming back! Can anyone believe the behaviour and actions of this owner? We certainly would not ever go back even if we wanted to! If you ask me it's in poor taste to confront customers who may I remind you did tip $5, to tip more! That's very poor business sense when it comes to customer service! You are trying to operate a business in a small community. I would think you would cherish you're customers! All I want to say now is, " Look it lady we paid our bill, we don't owe you anything f#ckin' else!" Done!
And the word I called you when I left; suited you to a tee! Only someone like that would have enough nerve to do that!
Now I'm done ranting! read more
