The past two times we have come we have noticed the cajun garlic butter is very watery and hot sauce forward and not much garlic or cajun flavor. King Crab House has been on my list to visit and finally had to once they ran their $40 AYCE crawfish boil Lent Special. The first bag is 2 lbs and comes with potatoes, sausages and corns. Not a huge fan of their sausage as it's cut very thin. The sauces are either their Cajun garlic butter or garlic butter. We've came here for the deal three times and the Cajun garlic butter is soooo good! The sauce is a little inconsistent, first and third time it was very garlicky and flavorful. Second time the sauce was a bit more watered down and less garlic, perhaps that's cause we came on a Saturday night and it was busy? Whereas the other times was a Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening. Idk. But I would still come back lol the crawfish were pretty massive in size compared to other seafood boils we frequent. Love the little bowl of free bread they give. Service has typically been friendly and attentive, although you gotta plan ahead and order in advance when doing the AYCE otherwise you'll get full during the wait. I appreciate them taking the shell/trash bowl away and replacing it often so we wouldn't have a mess. Ambiance is old-school vibes, clean restaurant and good music. Went back for a second round. WAY OVER PRICED! Our soup was cold , the portion size for the calamari was a side portion, the crab cake was smaller than a hockey puck. The strawberry lemonade was from the fountain and over 4$. The king crab was just ok.. Over all over 320$ for two people. Total junk! Server didn't bring our napkins when the food was presented. Ordered their signature menu item - 20 oz jumbo king crab legs and was told they were out of them. This happens to us at restaurants way too frequently. How can you be out of your signature menu item and not say anything about that to warn your customers beforehand? I'll never understand it. We drove 20 miles to get there. So I ordered the 1lb large king crab legs as my second choice and they did not look large to me for king crab. I would say they were medium to small. Definitely did not look or taste like $75 worth of crab. My wife ordered the jumbo scallops and these also were medium to small. The scallop appetizer we ordered were even more extremely small. My "new potatoes" side dish was three small pieces of potatoes. After eating most of the appetizer, my entire entree & side, and part of my wife's meal, I was still hungry so we ordered slices of pie for dessert. Service was a little slow, especially for cocktails and my tiny cup of melted butter did not last even for my small portion of skinny crab legs. I would be surprised if it was actually 1lb in weight. We probably would not return or recommend, unfortunately. Came here for the AYCE Crawfish boil! This was my first ever crawfish boil which seems like a sin as I'm from Texas! I think it was worth the money BUT they only refill the crawfish and not the potatoes, sausage and corn which was disappointing! You do have the option of adding some for an extra price of course! Insanely good seafood boil. I came in with high expectations and hope because it is one of my friends faves and I was not disappointed. The wait staff was prompt, attentive and kind. Our food came out STEAMING at the perfect temperature. This is one of these meals that when you start eating you wont put your hands down until it's done. Very quaint place. My friend and I sat at the bar. Kejtlin was our server and she was super nice and able to make recommendations. It seemed as if everyone assisted each other with their tables with no questions asked. They have so many specials and shareable plates. You can't go wrong with eating here. I had the Lobster Roll and fries (ate it forgot to take a pick), but it looked so inviting and good, but big let down it was so bland in flavor(used all the extra sauce trying to get flavor). We recently visited King Crab House after a 20 year hiatus. Moving to the burbs and having kids kept us away from the city. Thankfully, I came across a Facebook post with the bar specials, and that was enough to drag us back to one of our favorite haunts of our youth! The bar specials are only available on the high top tables or at the bar. We were lucky enough to get a spot right in front so we could enjoy the view of sweet home Chicago while we are. There is a two drink minimum per person to get the bar special pricing, but the drinks were reasonably priced and delicious! I ordered and inhaled two dozen oysters by myself. My husband is not a fan, but he really enjoyed the mussels and peel and eat shrimp. He even ordered buffalo wings and loved them as well! I had to try the soft shelled crab sandwich because it's seasonal and I can't get it all the time. I'm not sure I'd order it again. I'll probably stick to gorging on oysters. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The waitstaff and ambiance were terrific, and we can't wait to return. It won't be another twenty years, that's for sure! read more

I was there for the all you can eat crabs legs. The first 30 minutes I was served twice 1/2 pound each time, after that the third time I have to wait over 30 to 40 minutes waiting for the server to bring more crabs and one more soda , the crabs was small few was fresh and delicious, and other was very soft & hard to open you can tell they are very OLD. We haven't visited King Crab House Chicago in many years. Many years. Mostly because of the drive from the south suburbs. Today we decided to take a ride. Made reservations for noon. When we arrived the bar area was almost empty, so we decided to sit there. Initially we forgot to mention that we had reservations but my wife walked up to the host stand and advised (Jeff) who I believe was the manager that we made reservations. He thanks my wife because if you don't mention the reservation it posts as a no show and additionally they were pretty much full on reservation for the rest of the day so it was nice to know ours was freed up. Sitting at the bar is perfect for us. You can see the kitchen area at work, watch the oysters being shucked right in front of you and usually meet some really great people. In our experience it also allows you to see how the staff is working together. We were pretty amazed at the excellent interaction with the staff. They balanced well and checked on customers that were not always theirs. We had Erin as our server and she did a great job. After we arrived the restaurant started to fill up which meant Erin was moving back and fourth between the front and back and she did a great job of making sure she hit all of the necessary checks to make sure our experience was great. Sitting at the bar we also had a candid view of how Jeff handled the checking snd customer complaints. He really has a special gift of handling customers. We watched him balance a couple customers who did not have reservations (restaurant was reservation full) and do his best to accommodate them any way he could. His demeanor never changed from polite. If I owned a restaurant he would be a pleasure to have in that position. Let's talk about the food. Deals at the bar are really fair for Chicago establishments. Oysters less than a dollar each, peel and eat shrimp less than a dollar each. Several other bar seating deals. See attachment. Oysters shucked in front if you, can't get any fresher than that. Shrimp was cold and flavorful with an excellent cocktail sauce. Throw in some really good jalapeño poppers and you've got some great selections. Of course we couldn't lads up the regular specials. My wife had the steamed whole Maine lobster. 1 1/2 pounds. The lobster was presented cut in half with steamed red potato's. It might have been slightly over cooked because the tail meat was falling apart. The claw meat was excellent. I was really excited to have the soft shell crab. It's available in 2 or 4 piece dinner options. I chose the 4 piece of corse . They allowed me to have 2 sautéd and 2 blackened. I like them both. The blackened seasoning it strong on the delicate side crab. But the taste makes it acceptable. If I was just ordering 2, I'd go with sautéd. Service was excellent in an obvious full house environment. We'll definitely be making many more trips in the future. Stopped in for dinner on a spontaneous Sunday and loved the atmosphere here. No frills but still with a nice vibe. I recommend sitting at the bar to watch the seafood action! There is a 2 drink minimum per person there though, which gave me an excuse to have some bubbly with my oysters. The oysters were fresh and delicious, as was my salad and spicy fried shrimp. I will preface my review by saying we went here on a Saturday night at 7:30 and they were busy. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated quickly. We placed our drink order which came out in about 10 minutes. We then asked for some bread and placed our appetizer order, Oysters Rockefeller and fried scallops. The Oysters Rockefeller came out room temperature and the only thing Oyster about them was the shell, all breading and spinach. The fried scallops were also room temperature and the breading had fallen off so the naked little scallops were sitting in a mess of greasy dough. We again asked for some bread. My wife ordered the 20 oz. (?) jumbo King Crab Legs. I ordered the twin lobster tails and fillet combo. Our meals arrived and I again asked for some bread. My wife's 20 oz. of jumbo King Crab Legs were two medium sized legs. The only thing jumbo about them was the price. To their credit, my steak was excellent. The lobster was OK. My side was corn on the cob. The top of the cob was room temperature but the bottom was refrigerator COLD! We finally got our "bread", a piece of room temperature pita cut into 1" squares. Dollar for dollar one of my worst dinning experiences in years. I can only assume there was a staffing problem on this night. If this is their normal level of proficiency they could not still be in business. read more
