King Crab House advertised a meal that included calamari and a slice of key lime pie. We paid for exactly what was advertised. Instead of honoring the order, they sent us a handwritten note that said: "Sorry, the key lime pie & calamari doesn't come with the dinner anymore. " Seriously? That's not how restaurants work. You don't get to change what's included after the customer has already paid. If you run out of something, you call the customer. You offer a substitute or a refund. You don't simply decide it "doesn't come with the dinner anymore" and keep the customer's money. By that logic, why not write, "Sorry, the crab legs don't come with the dinner anymore," or "Sorry, the filet mignon doesn't come with it anymore"? Once someone has paid, you don't get to rewrite what they purchased. The food wasn't worth defending anyway. The crab was oversteamed, the quality was mediocre, and the service has always been indifferent. This experience was simply the last straw. There are far better seafood restaurants in Chicago that actually honor the orders they accept. We won't be back. read more

Very Disappointing Experience $65.00 All-You-Can-Eat Crab Legs: I have never experienced a restaurant with with so many unexpected rules and fees. The all-you-can-eat crab legs were $65.95 per person, which is already a very expensive. The experience was extremely disappointing. it was two of us. First, we were told by the waitress in order to receive more crab legs, the manger had to inspect our plates to make sure all the crab legs had been eaten before serving us more. How pathetic, we aren't kids. If you advertise something as "all you can eat," customers should not feel like they are being monitored or questioned over what is left on their plate. I under preventing waste, but this policy made the experience uncomfortable and took away enjoy the meal. Some of the crab legs had no meat at all, I wonder do they monitor that. Then we were told by the waitress that in order to get the all-you-can-at option, we had to purchase a cocktail that was averaging $14-16 per cocktail. I DON'T EVEN DRINK ALCOHOL. Then came the bill. There was an additional 3% operational fee that we were never informed about until we got the bill. I questioned the waitress about the charge and advised it was a terrorist fee. Customers should not have to examine their bill and ask question to find out about additional mandatory fees. These charges should be clearly disclosed upfront and the customer can decided if they would like to dine at the restaurant. And then there was the gratuity. I asked the waitress why the gratuity so high which was 18% automatically for two people, and the waitress replied it was a set amount regardless to how many people were sitting at the table. Again, this was something we were not made aware of before ordering. At the end of the meal I felt like there were too many rules, restrictions and unexpected charges for a meal that cost $65.00 per person. What was supposed to. be an enjoyabe dinner turned into an experience where I felt like I had to constantly question the polices and charges. For the amount of money we spent. I expected much better transparency and customer service. The waitress did not have a personality at all. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would NOT return and I would NOT recommend this restaurant. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place out but left disappointed. There is a happy hour deal but prices only apply if each person buys a minimum of 2 cocktails/mocktails, which adds up fast. The wings were fine. The oysters were not appetizing. The shrimp cocktail was served on a plate with ice and the ice melted so fast that my shrimp was floating in the water. My friend and I ordered the snow crab and filet mignon dinner for two people. The portions were small with the steak was not really seasoned. For the price and quality of food we received, I wouldn't return here. read more

Came here for the AYCE Crawfish boil! This was my first ever crawfish boil which seems like a sin as I'm from Texas! I think it was worth the money BUT they only refill the crawfish and not the potatoes, sausage and corn which was disappointing! You do have the option of adding some for an extra price of course! The inside was cute and coastal! Very Florida! I loved the garlic butter sauce they had, it was mild and perfect! Service was a little slow I feel like we had to flag down our actual waitress some, but the men cleaning up the shells were quick as ever!!! Overall I would come back read more

I lovedddd it here , A REAL CRAB HOUSE . We ordered many things and everything was DELICIOUS! Even the garlic pita bread they give as a starter ! I didn't get a picture of everything but we ordered the stuffed mushroom , oysters Rockefeller , muscles . We did the 2lb snow crab meal , the crabs were huge and sweet so good . Also an 18oz steak , very good . And the seared scallops which I thought were just okay but honestly just taste like any other scallop I've had . We also did the grilled shrimp and had about 6 cocktails as well , my bill is left below ! Will definitely be back ! read more

Ordered their signature menu item - 20 oz jumbo king crab legs and was told they were out of them. This happens to us at restaurants way too frequently. How can you be out of your signature menu item and not say anything about that to warn your customers beforehand? I'll never understand it. We drove 20 miles to get there. So I ordered the 1lb large king crab legs as my second choice and they did not look large to me for king crab. I would say they were medium to small. Definitely did not look or taste like $75 worth of crab. My wife ordered the jumbo scallops and these also were medium to small. The scallop appetizer we ordered were even more extremely small. My "new potatoes" side dish was three small pieces of potatoes. After eating most of the appetizer, my entire entree & side, and part of my wife's meal, I was still hungry so we ordered slices of pie for dessert. Service was a little slow, especially for cocktails and my tiny cup of melted butter did not last even for my small portion of skinny crab legs. I would be surprised if it was actually 1lb in weight. We probably would not return or recommend, unfortunately. Big disappointment, especially after seeing the portion sizes on their instagram video posts where the crab legs shown there are as big as my arm and come with big bowls of melted butter. Totally false advertising. No jumbo Alaskan king crab legs. No big bowls of melted butter. read more

King Crab House has been on my list to visit and finally had to once they ran their $40 AYCE crawfish boil Lent Special. The first bag is 2 lbs and comes with potatoes, sausages and corns. Not a huge fan of their sausage as it's cut very thin. The sauces are either their Cajun garlic butter or garlic butter. We've came here for the deal three times and the Cajun garlic butter is soooo good! The sauce is a little inconsistent, first and third time it was very garlicky and flavorful. Second time the sauce was a bit more watered down and less garlic, perhaps that's cause we came on a Saturday night and it was busy? Whereas the other times was a Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening. Idk. But I would still come back lol the crawfish were pretty massive in size compared to other seafood boils we frequent. Love the little bowl of free bread they give. Service has typically been friendly and attentive, although you gotta plan ahead and order in advance when doing the AYCE otherwise you'll get full during the wait. I appreciate them taking the shell/trash bowl away and replacing it often so we wouldn't have a mess. Ambiance is old-school vibes, clean restaurant and good music. It seems they have a pretty good happy hour deal for oysters and wings with a purchase of a drink, def need to check it out sometime. Please let the crawfish special be year round!!!! Lol read more

Insanely good seafood boil. I came in with high expectations and hope because it is one of my friends faves and I was not disappointed. The wait staff was prompt, attentive and kind. Our food came out STEAMING at the perfect temperature. This is one of these meals that when you start eating you wont put your hands down until it's done. The seasoning was flavorful and the food was cooked to perfection. The restaurant wasn't too busy - as i understand this is a popular take out spot. Nevertheless this makes for great conversation and easy seating. Looking forward to going back already. read more

First time here and honestly, what a fun experience! I've never had a seafood boil before, but they had a great deal on the winter menu for a shrimp and snow crab boil bag for $20. I will say the service was lacking a bit, but they were pretty busy. Our server at times was nowhere to be found, and it took us awhile to get our bill after we finished. I would probably come back here and try some other things on the menu. read more

Went back for a second round. WAY OVER PRICED! Our soup was cold , the portion size for the calamari was a side portion, the crab cake was smaller than a hockey puck. The strawberry lemonade was from the fountain and over 4$. The king crab was just ok.. Over all over 320$ for two people. Total junk! Server didn't bring our napkins when the food was presented. Won't be going back - wouldn't suggest you go either. read more

The food was very good We ordered the "all you can eat snow crab legs " but very slow service every time you ordered new order of crab legs they took their sweet time ... the last order my husband ordered they took forever and they only served not even half order of crab legs . Great service. The food was great. Awesome vibe. Everyone is very attentive. We ordered fried scallops for the appetizer which were delicious. Then the 3 course dinner. For starters we had the clam chowder and calamari and both were great. For the main we got the king card and the seafood boil bag. For chocolate mousse cake and tiramisu. Everything was 10 out of 10. Price was great. Highly recommend. We will be retuning read more

Very quaint place. My friend and I sat at the bar. Kejtlin was our server and she was super nice and able to make recommendations. It seemed as if everyone assisted each other with their tables with no questions asked. They have so many specials and shareable plates. You can't go wrong with eating here. My friend and I both got specials that can be shared. The combos come with an appetizer and glass of wine of your choice. So you really get your monies worth. I really enjoyed the seafood especially with the hot chili dipping sauce. I had my steak cooked med well. It was tender but there was no flavor. It just tasted like the grill to me. So next time I may just get all seafood or ask them to make sure to place salt.on my steak prior to cooking it. I usually don't require steak sauce for a well cooked steak and I needed it. read more

Food is top notch. It was hard to choose what to get so we ordered calamari, crab cakes, fried shrimp, oysters , crab boil and the ribeye with king crab. It's expensive but worth the price for some or the best seafood we've ever eaten. read more

Went for the bar specials. First thing to know is that you must purchase two alcoholic drinks to receive the deal. I got two glasses of wine. The oysters, fried and raw were just okay. I wish there were sauces available outside of the one provided to us like mignonette. The cheese + jalapeno poppers were also just okay. Did not seem homemade. The shrimps were quite large which was great. Tasted fresh. The mussels were definitely the star of the show. The sauce was excellent! So garlicy and buttery - I could've drinken it. All in all, the bar deal is great, but only for certain items and if you feel like drinking. read more

The food was delicious and definitely a great deal for the price. The place itself is pretty small, and the interior feels a bit dated, but it gets the job done. On the plus side, there's plenty of street parking nearby, which makes it super convenient. read more

Omg this place was amazing! Customer service was very good, my waitress Maria was very kind and sweet. Oysters were really decent. The place closes at 10:40 I came around 9:40 the workers were so kind. Me and my family all ordered the three course dinner which came with an appetizer main course and dessert for only $45! The main course was Alaskan crab legs and came with 3-4 big clusters. They had so many things to choose from on the menu. I would definitely recommend coming here and I will be coming back! 10/10 from me! read more

Good place for seafood, especially the seafood boil type of dinner with a little bit more service and ambience than the usual places. The server was great, all staff very friendly! I had the Lobster Roll and fries (ate it forgot to take a pick), but it looked so inviting and good, but big let down it was so bland in flavor(used all the extra sauce trying to get flavor). My husband had the Surf and Turf (2 Lobster Tails & Filet Mignon), he said the steak was really good, seasoned well, but the Lobster tail like mine was bland and the garlic butter didn't taste like real butter, so he's taking it home to doctor up. Overall good service, food ok. read more

We recently visited King Crab House after a 20 year hiatus. Moving to the burbs and having kids kept us away from the city. Thankfully, I came across a Facebook post with the bar specials, and that was enough to drag us back to one of our favorite haunts of our youth! The bar specials are only available on the high top tables or at the bar. We were lucky enough to get a spot right in front so we could enjoy the view of sweet home Chicago while we are. There is a two drink minimum per person to get the bar special pricing, but the drinks were reasonably priced and delicious! I ordered and inhaled two dozen oysters by myself. My husband is not a fan, but he really enjoyed the mussels and peel and eat shrimp. He even ordered buffalo wings and loved them as well! I had to try the soft shelled crab sandwich because it's seasonal and I can't get it all the time. I'm not sure I'd order it again. I'll probably stick to gorging on oysters. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The waitstaff and ambiance were terrific, and we can't wait to return. It won't be another twenty years, that's for sure! read more

Service is great! Love the vibe and have come a few times. We get the seafood boil every time we come and must add that the Cajun Garlic Butter Sauce is soooo inconsistent. Please bring back the Cajun Garlic Butter recipe you were using for the AYCE crawfish deal, it was soooo good and the crawfish were great. The past two times we have come we have noticed the cajun garlic butter is very watery and hot sauce forward and not much garlic or cajun flavor. We thought the first time it was different it may have been just an off day so we gave it another chance and the sauce just wasn't great :( please bring back your old recipe (and crawfish!) and we will come back! read more

We haven't visited King Crab House Chicago in many years. Many years. Mostly because of the drive from the south suburbs. Today we decided to take a ride. Made reservations for noon. When we arrived the bar area was almost empty, so we decided to sit there. Initially we forgot to mention that we had reservations but my wife walked up to the host stand and advised (Jeff) who I believe was the manager that we made reservations. He thanks my wife because if you don't mention the reservation it posts as a no show and additionally they were pretty much full on reservation for the rest of the day so it was nice to know ours was freed up. Sitting at the bar is perfect for us. You can see the kitchen area at work, watch the oysters being shucked right in front of you and usually meet some really great people. In our experience it also allows you to see how the staff is working together. We were pretty amazed at the excellent interaction with the staff. They balanced well and checked on customers that were not always theirs. We had Erin as our server and she did a great job. After we arrived the restaurant started to fill up which meant Erin was moving back and fourth between the front and back and she did a great job of making sure she hit all of the necessary checks to make sure our experience was great. Sitting at the bar we also had a candid view of how Jeff handled the checking snd customer complaints. He really has a special gift of handling customers. We watched him balance a couple customers who did not have reservations (restaurant was reservation full) and do his best to accommodate them any way he could. His demeanor never changed from polite. If I owned a restaurant he would be a pleasure to have in that position. Let's talk about the food. Deals at the bar are really fair for Chicago establishments. Oysters less than a dollar each, peel and eat shrimp less than a dollar each. Several other bar seating deals. See attachment. Oysters shucked in front if you, can't get any fresher than that. Shrimp was cold and flavorful with an excellent cocktail sauce. Throw in some really good jalapeño poppers and you've got some great selections. Of course we couldn't lads up the regular specials. My wife had the steamed whole Maine lobster. 1 1/2 pounds. The lobster was presented cut in half with steamed red potato's. It might have been slightly over cooked because the tail meat was falling apart. The claw meat was excellent. I was really excited to have the soft shell crab. It's available in 2 or 4 piece dinner options. I chose the 4 piece of corse . They allowed me to have 2 sautéd and 2 blackened. I like them both. The blackened seasoning it strong on the delicate side crab. But the taste makes it acceptable. If I was just ordering 2, I'd go with sautéd. Service was excellent in an obvious full house environment. We'll definitely be making many more trips in the future. We feel Jeff and the staff have a good grasp on how to keep the patrons happy. -- with Lora K. Green Sheehy at King Crab House Chicago. read more

I was there for the all you can eat crabs legs. The first 30 minutes I was served twice 1/2 pound each time, after that the third time I have to wait over 30 to 40 minutes waiting for the server to bring more crabs and one more soda , the crabs was small few was fresh and delicious, and other was very soft & hard to open you can tell they are very OLD. This picture shows I was looking at my plate over 40 minutes with no one care , all the attention the manager & I think was the owner was on media influencer making videos about the food they have almost all the menu on their table. Will NOT RECOMMEND THE ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB LEGS Update august 18-2024 Thank you for your response Dear Mitra K ,, I add the receipt shows 1/2 pound each time, since I LOVE SEAFOOD I AM GOING TO COME AGAIN BUT I WILL ORDER SOMETHING ELSE NOT THE ALL YOU CAN EAT MENU. read more

A gem. Someone cares here. Oysters and shrimp fresh and plump, $.85 cents each (w the purchase of two drinks) Listen there's a reason why this place has been around for so long. The seafood is unexpectedly BEAUTIFUL meaning they're bringing in fresh shit even when it's not profitable for them because that's their reputation. They deserve to be supported. They are the type of restaurant that a city should keep alive because it's part of the unique fabric of that city that cannot be replaced with a $$$$$ external investment. It's character and heart. Also John? Cool mustache dude, working there for three weeks. No idea why they have forced him to be front of house, bartender, food runner everything but he handles it all with grace. Why burn out special people like ? I hope he makes bank. Good, not great, dirty martini but so good and dirty for someone who is doing 1000 things at once. In general, I probably wouldn't get their seafood boil again NOT because it wasn't good because it is GOOD-- super well seasoned FAT shrimp and snow crabs but because it wasn't exceptional (a little less punch than I like). I wouldn't get it again just cus their oyster bar specials are so awesome!!!! And I feel like their fresh king crabs are still their star. read more
