    Jerk Chicken

Was craving jerk chicken and it seemed most of the reviews focused on the service instead, so tried it out. But now I see why this place has 3 stars - the chicken was super dry and the rice/beans (as mentioned in other reviews) had uncooked/burnt bits mixed within. It was cheap though - I'll give them that.

So What's the first thing I'm gonna do after getting home to New York City at 1 AM in the morning I'm order from this place. Now the thing is. This restaurant was something else before it was a different Jamaican restaurant. I'm accustomed to the 24 hour spot on 135th St. when I DoorDash it I thought that's where I was ordering from.. but you live and you learn. The rice and peas was good. The brown soup chicken nice flavor slightly sweet as it should be nice gravy curry goat didn't look like curry. It should look Jamaican. Curry is yellow yellowish green but this was more orange orange reddish. It had a lot of bones. It was tender it was seasoned, it just didn't look like it should typically from a Jamaican spot. overall I enjoyed it. It definitely could've been worse and it could've been better but it was just right and he hit the spot. The mac & cheese was aight. Jamaicans arent really known for mac & cheese. So I'm not gonna hold him to the standards of southern mac & cheese.

Small business selling to-go dishes out of a window (basically). This place is a STAPLE in the neighborhood for a reason. While the Mac and cheese may be dry or they mess up orders from time to time -- we keep going back bc those oxtails are something else!!! Large plate of oxtails is about $20 and they are soooo meaty and tender and flavorful!!

Oxtail, Cabbage and rice and peas , this is a lot (mostly rice) for 21 dollars

Idk what change since the last time I was there but I had some curry chicken , white rice and cabbage ... DISGUSTING !!! The curry chicken wasn't even curry (it did not taste like it) the rice was mushy and the cabbage was a dark color and very over cooked. This place use to be called little people and the food was good back then ... This is the second king barka I been to and the food was bad ... IF YALL IN HARLEM JUST GO TO JERK HOUSE .. These 6 dollars plate are not worth it at all , those 6 dollars plate don't get made out of love.

Decent food for the price point . They have a pretty good spread available and the customer service was good . I would definitely pop back in to try something else . All this for food for $6 is insane ! Please support this business if you're in the area . happy eating

King Barka is a Jamaican takeout spot on Frederick Douglass between 145 and 146. It is one of my favorite spots I like to hit when I am back in NYC visiting my Mom. To be clear, this is a no-frills take-out joint. My favorite is the Oxtails and Pasta. The flavor is amazing. I have also had their rice & peas which were good also. They give big portions so you will definitely have some leftovers or enough to share. This is not one of those spots that you would go out of your way for but if you are local it's definitely worth it.

There were only 2 other parties seated and we were seated immediately upon arrival. It's fairly dark inside and the decor reminds me a bit of New Orleans. I enjoyed the ambiance. The drinks were great! I had the cocobella while he had margaritas. The table bread was hot and fresh, so make sure they bring it to the table for you. We had the mussels for an appetizer, lamb chops and bass. EVERYTHING was excellent! The flavor of the broth for the mussels was Devine, so much so my husband used his bread to sop up all he could. The bass had great flavor and came with sautéed spinach that was well cooked. It initially looked like a small portion but turned out to be plenty. The lamb chops were cooked to the requested temp and seasoned well. We left no crumbs. This one is definitely worth a try!

Our Server, Ramon, did an exceptional job. The staff did a great job at clearing finished items and everyone's timing was spot on. We started with the Tostones Rellenos con picadillo (Green plantains stuffed with ground beef). This was a great starter. Large enough to share and I enjoyed the drizzled sweet sauce and whole olives. Our entrees were: Palomilla Steak Platter (thin cut sirloin steak) and the Ropa Vieja (shredded flank steak). Both dishes were accompanied by white rice and we chose black beans and a side salad. This was the first time that I've seen Palomilla Steak presented totally cut into strips and it was a welcomed sight. The Ropa Vieja was perfectly seasoned and the amount of meat was thoroughly enjoyed. I capped off the meal with a Cortadito (A cortado is a Spanish coffee beverage consisting of equal parts espresso and warm, lightly steamed milk. The name comes from the Spanish verb cortar (to cut), meaning the milk "cuts" the acidity and intensity of the espresso. I appreciated the cookie on the side and each sip was amazing. Sometimes you don't need a fancy reservation... you just need a tiny spot, loud kitchen, and food…read morethat hits like a heavyweight champ. Walked into Margon Restaurant in Midtown and instantly felt like I found one of NYC's secret cheat codes. Small space, big flavors, zero nonsense. The kind of place where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers but everyone's united by one thing... serious hunger. Ordered the Cuban sandwich -- pressed, crispy, loaded with roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. One bite in and I stopped talking... which never happens. This thing didn't just deliver... it showed up early and over-prepared. Then came La Bandera Dominicana Braised beef swimming in savory gravy, yellow rice piled like a mountain, black beans doing their thing, and sweet maduros sitting on top like the victory flag. Simple. Comforting. Dangerous... because now I want it every week. Place gets busy, gets loud, gets chaotic... but it moves like a well-oiled machine. Years of experience and zero attitude. Just good people making great food. In a neighborhood full of tourist traps, this hole-in-the-wall is throwing haymakers. Sometimes the best escape in NYC isn't a rooftop... It's a Cuban sandwich and a plastic tray. And honestly... I'd pick that every time. #nycfood #hiddennyc #midtowneats

Noted different prices on their website, on the paper menu and later noticed different ones posted on the walls. Oh well, we were already there. At first, one of the ladies behind the counter was getting confused about sides with the combos. Finally got that cleared up but found out they ran out of maduros so got one piece of chicken chunk as replacement. The chicken chunks were ok in flavor, but not crispy at all and didn't look great. Combo with 5 small pieces at $17 is not worth it. Went there for the Cuban sandwich which was an ok sandwich, tasty. Both rice we tried are on the dry side, beans at least ok with them.
