    Oxtails
    Bernice N.

I found the food here to be pretty good. I don't know what happened to my regular place I normally come to visit but I found this one to be close and I really wanted some oxtails and they delivered. The guy that made my order was very nice and patient with me because I really didn't know what to try and I was on a budget and they didn't have signs of prices anywhere. I ask about the oxtails and they seem about the same price as others, glad I went with them because they were really good. I would make another visit here if my regular has closed down and I would hope they didn't but this place is a good replacement. Check them out.

There once was an eating tree on nostrands and Lincoln in Brooklyn. Ohh how I loved that place. They served some of the best oxtails I ever had. Big pots always on the stove cooking Mac and cheese always cheesy and bubbling. But then they closed and I was sad I missed the eating tree so bad. But then they opened another one on Fulton street in Brooklyn it wasn't as good as nostrand but it was close enough. Then I moved from Brooklyn so no more eating tree for me. Now I'm in the Bronx and I have eaten at this tree more then once. Where as no eating tree to me is comparable to nostrand ave this spot is def not bad and worth it too.

The food is pretty good and delicious here. Came for their lunch special and was very satisfied. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas. Both the rice and chicken were delicious and well seasoned. The portions are plentiful and fulfilling both the lunch special or the regular sizes.

Pleased !!!! Came here with my boyfriend while we were in town after a Yankee's Game and this food hit the spot. Service was friendly, prices were good and the food was exceptional ! While this is not a place to dine in for decor/atmosphere, if you're hungry for Caribbean take out or a quick meal this is the place to go. We'd come back.

Curry Shrimp, Red Rice, Cabbage and a tiny little fried plantain tucked away in the top left corner. Delish.

Like most Yankee foodies probably do, I went here with the family pregame to grab a bite that wouldn't cost us $200 that it would cost to buy food inside the stadium. We started off with some beef patties and while the crust was a bit too overcooked for my liking, the filling was super fresh and much better then anything you would get at a Golden Krust or in the frozen food section of any supermarket. For mains we kept it pretty simple with 2 of us ordering the Curried Shrimp and the other 1 ordering the Jerk Shrimp. For the curry shrimp, the shrimp themselves were relativity big and cooked perfectly so you had a nice little plump bite every time you sunk your teeth into one of those morsels. The sauce itself had a very much West Indian curry vibe going on without the heat that you think of when you hear the word "curry". The red rice that went along with shrimp was flavorful and not overdone and provided a great conduit to soak up the curry sauce in. Though the dish came with a side of braised cabbage, it didn't really do much for me other then provide a nice contrast in texture from the rest of the meal and serve as a filler to help top off the stomach. In addition to the shrimp, I ordered a side of fried plantains that hands down were the best I have ever had. These plantains run a touch on the sweet and mushy side (my favorite way to eat plantains) so don't come in expecting a crispy bite that some other places might provide. To top off our Jamaican feast, is there any choice other then Red Stripe? Though $6 a bottle might seem a bit steep 1. You are next to Yankee Stadium and 2. It costs $15 dollars inside so drink up for cheap while you can.

Outside view - don't miss it!

Great Jamaican food in a no-frills atmosphere. The food is served from a steam table so it comes out fast - good if you are here for court, which I am. I had the lunch special goat curry with rice n peas and steamed cabbage as sides for $7.35. The goat curry was great and to bones were large enough to mostly pick out - I hate when they are shattered and potentially lurking in each bite. The goat was great; super tender, moist and flavorful. N.B. the lunch portion isn't huge so if you are hungry try the medium. There are a few tables for dining in, which I did, but most guests were carrying out. The also serve cod with various sides for breakfast - next time!

    Jerk shrimp. Delicious!

Hands down my favorite Jamaican restaurant. I usually come here before a Yankee game and am never disappointed. It's a mere two blocks from the stadium with authentic Jamaican fare. It's a no frills place which I love (and usually means the food is authentic!). Service is always friendly too. I've been with friends that haven't tried Jamaican food before or who aren't big fans who absolutely love the food here. What better way to enjoy the game than with great food and cheaper beer than the stadium? I've never had anything I didn't enjoy but I typically order the jerk shrimp wrap or meal. Comes with beans and rice with plantains. If you're in the area, definitely make a point to come here. You will not be disappointed.

You know how music can bring back a memory? Certain meals can do that also. Well, while having Jenny's those Trinidadian flavors brought me back to the good old days of about 15 or so years ago. Damn, it's been a long time! (Eric B. & Rakim just came to mind.) Anyway. Jenny's meal of Jerk Chicken had that extra spiciness just the way I like it. Then there's the order of Stew Chicken. The Trini flavors were prominent in this dish, with that extra gravy melding in nicely into the Rice and Peas and side of mashed pumpkin. Mmm mmm mm!! Plus, can't forget my favorite accompaniment, Buss Up Shut. Setting things off with those fluffy, warm sheets of dough to wrap your meaty sauced stews in. Man, those combos brought me back! They also included Dhalpuri to soak up the order of Boneless Curry Chicken with chunks of potatoes to create your own Roti. Everything was perfect with the exception of one forgivable misstep...the missing Oxtail. We included an order of Oxtail that did not arrive. But the error was quickly remedied within the hour with an email apology and a credit for the cost. High Five on the Customer Service Score! Jenny's Roti Shop gave us a reprieve from the redundant cuisine located in our immediate area. Jenny's will no doubt be on our, 'what's for dinner?!?!?! delivery list.

Rice & Peas & Tings is located toward the rear of the Bronx Terminal Market food court. I wound up here early on a Sunday morning and decided to give them a try. After the warm greeting, I asked if it was too early for stew chicken and was told 'Course not'. I was given a hearty serving of food, with EXTRA GRAVY like I requested. I could have fallen in love right there. I grabbed one of the many available tables, near the Christmas tree, so I could look wistfully out, onto...the highway. While the plate was plentiful, the chicken I received was small boney pieces. If you look, you can see the chicken back in my picture. This is not exactly a complaint (bones are for chewing), but I would have liked to have more actual meat. The chicken itself was also slightly sweeter than my preference, but still very good. Honestly they had me at the extra gravy and could probably do no wrong. The rice and veg were both well cooked and I have no complaints on either. I will definitely return and try different things from the menu (looking at you oxtail).

I remember when Fish N' Ting first opened several years ago and I'm pleased to know that this family run establishment is still kicking. I would put it in my top five list for Jamaican restaurants in the city. The menu is wide and varying and accommodating of different diets. If you love jerk chicken, you need to try it here! The jerk chicken lovers in my life can't get enough. My recommended dishes are the whiting (fried) with rice and peas, rasta pasta and now the lobster (which I didn't know they had). The seafood is made to order, fresh and super tasty. I never thought sweet chili and lobster would be a good combo but it totally rocks! It was truly delectable. They have a DJ so if you're looking to vibe while enjoying Ghanian food, this could be the spot. It was my first time trying Malt and the best way I can describe it is it tastes like molasses, slightly bitter, slightly yeasty but very mild overall. We started off with the Chicken Suya which was a bit dry and chewy but the suya seasoning made all the difference. It tastes like a blend of chili powder, ginger, garlic, onion powder, paprika, etc. It was a fine starter but definitely skippable. For entrees, we got the Street Waakye and Jollof Queen. I've had waakye (pronounced waa-che) before but this was pretty dry. The spaghetti was light and I actually liked that they used thinner noodles rather than the regular spaghetti. This dish comes with fried fish which was light, flaky, and moist. The real winner was the goat stew. I'm salivating just thinking about it! You get the essence of tomato, the tenderness and slight gamey flavor from the goat, and the thick and luscious sauce that was an explosion of flavors. I even dipped the boiled egg into the sauce which was unbelievably satisfying. The jollof rice from the Jollof Queen was cooked way better than the waakye. It was moist, well-seasoned, and didn't really need anything added to be good. I loved the sweet plantains and the chicken was also well-prepared. Considering how much jollof rice there was and that it was ~$25, they could've given more than 2 pieces of chicken. Overall, it was a pretty good meal! When the bill came, I saw there was an automatic 18% gratuity added which is totally fine considering we were a party of 7. However, they then pointed out that this wasn't tip and was a fee for "the table". I eat out a lot and never in my life have I heard of this. We ended up adding another 10% on top of that. They also charge a 3% credit card fee. I don't agree with them trying to squeeze out more money from customers who are already coming and spending money; this is definitely not the norm anywhere else I've been. Not too many restaurants in NYC serving Ghanaian cuisine but you'll enjoy some traditional dishes here.
