They have an excellent selection of running and walking shoes, and the owner and staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. One thing I really appreciated was their foot scanning machine, which measures your feet and helps determine the best size and shoe for your gait. They also have a fantastic selection of gear, and the atmosphere is welcoming whether you're an experienced runner or just getting started. Kindred is the best running store, in my opinion, and a must stop if you are in the market for new shoes, gear, or even just need some friendly advice. Chris who runs the store (along with his other talented business partners) is so exceptionally knowledgeable about the running industry, the products they carry, and about the sport in general. The staff from Will to Joe to all the others are equally knowledgeable, friendly and care about the buyer. On top of the incredible selection is what the store offers as a locally based shop. From weekly running clubs to brand try-on days to just knowing about racing events in the area, you are getting more than your money's worth by stopping by and visiting the store. It's rare nowadays to find a locally owned shoe store. Stopped by and my mom and sister were able to find a few pairs of shoes here. Fortunately, they were dog friendly and let the pup in as well. They have a great selection of running shoes (mostly HOKAs, Brooks, New Balance, some Altras) and their prices are very fair. The store itself is shaped like a tall rectangle so it's easier to try on in person and walk/jog around to get a better idea of feel. There's also a bin to recycle your old sneakers too!. Happened to find this place just walking by. Found out they opened about 6 months ago. Was very impressed with the staff and how much time they spent with each customer. Scan your feet and help guide you which shoes "should" fit best. It was a little off (needed half size bigger), but staff seem knowledgeable on different models. Also offer community events which is a plus. Ended up buying 3 pairs of shoes for me and my mom since they currently have a sale. Will gladly refer others, as it's nice to have find a good shoe store in Alameda read more

My husband and I came here over the weekend to get him some new walking shoes and we both ended up with a pair of shoes. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. My husband told them the shoe he had, what he liked and didn't like and they gave us many options to look at. He also did a foot scan to show what shoe would be good for him as well as the size. Amazing service from the energetic gal who helped me. Loved her. Listened to what I wanted and it made the shoe buying experience really fun, could have hung out there all day. I left with trail running shoes i can't wait to use!!! Docking a star for the employee who chastised the two other employees in front of me for not knowing how to use the POS system. Clearly this was a recurring frustrating issue for the team internally, but you shouldn't chastise employees in front of customers. Wait til they leave and then have the conversation. read more

I stopped in to buy some insoles today and the owner chris was super helpful and kind. I found something that worked perfectly for my needs! I also let him know I needed to replace my running shoes and he brought me a ton of options to try on and was patient in explaining the differences between each one. Options were plentiful and prices were competitive with lots of items on sale. I came in for a new pair of sneakers for general use and occasional walks. My old pair were uncomfortable and I had not had good luck shopping for a replacement online. The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful! After a quick foot scan, he offered several pairs in various sizes (because they vary) and foam/support types. After trying many options across various brands, I left with a pair that I think will work well for me. The price is comparable to other sellers, but their service and expertise is phenomenal. Stopped in to look for a new pair of shoes that will work for HIIT classes. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and took time to answer my questions. I got to test a few shoes by running down the block. I ended up going with the same brand/style I have been using, but I appreciated the suggestions and opportunity to try other brands. Being curious and waiting for this place to open for sometime, I finally stepped in to check it out today. I needed a new pair of running shoes however, I stopped by the store during my run. As I walked in they were friendly asked how I was and if I need anything, just ask. I like that, true, not pushy, and letting me decide. After awhile I asked for help for new pair of running shoes. They ask some simply questions about certain styles, brands, comfort, etc. Now, I'm not a getup and do a marathon or daily runner. Just an average 49 year old who just likes to run once or twice and if lucky three times a week kind of guy. Also a preschool teacher, so I do get plenty of cardio from that as well. They went above and beyond and brought out five different pairs for me to try on. They let me try each pair by going out of the store run a bit and comeback. As I did this with each pair they asked for feedback. This made me feel that they really wanted to understand what works for me and not just selling me a shoe to get their money and work on the next customer. It acknowledge that they want to hear my input and not just through their knowledge at me and what to get. Don't get me wrong they do have a lot of knowledge but it's a comforting to be heard as well, even though I'm just a casual runner. This kind running shop has been a long time coming and it's great to have one finally in the community that is very welcoming to all! Anyway, the fun part! I got some great running shoes for a good price and got to RUN BACK HOME IN THEM!!! (made an arrangement to pick up my old ones next day).
