West Coast is an absolute gem of a business! Jeff and his staff are top-notch at helping pick out gear, offering a massive selection that is very fairly priced. I've been shopping here since 2005. A huge thanks to Jeff and the team for all their help today selecting a helmet, glove, and cleats. We kept them past closing, but we found the right gear and they never made us feel rushed or inconvenient. Top-notch service, selection, and pricing, what else can you ask for? PS: To anyone reading negative comments about the service, those judgments are shortsighted. The store is BUSY because the staff takes their time helping customers make the right choice. When you're spending hundreds of dollars on sports gear, they ensure you get what actually fits. Jeff and his staff routinely go out of their way for customers, even stepping into the batting cage to test out a bat. If you're looking for quick, surface-level service, stick to standard retailers. If you want deep, expert guidance that takes the necessary time, go to West Coast! read more

The customer service for a long time has been going downhill. I kept on thinking it was an off day time and time again, but the owner is such has a bad attitude and bad customer service. With all the money that the local families pay here is just really unfortunate. I'm usually all about supporting small businesses, but I would definitely stay away from this place if you possibly could. You get better deals elsewhere. You have to get the better customer service because you're a corporate store elsewhere and their return policy is better somewhere else than the warranty as well. The receipt here is old school where it doesn't even tell you the product name. It just tells you the price so we're trying to do a warranty from the manufacturer. read more

AMAZING selection... baseball superstore!! Recommended by baseball coach for new glove & did not disappoint. 80 years family owned ... it was a drive but well worth it to support local owned business. The guy who helped us was very knowledgeable & even "beat the glove" to break it in a lil'. read more

One of a kind and it was well worth the trip out there. Jeff was a fantastic help and it was a great experience selecting an outfielder's glove for my 15 year old son. read more

Their customer service sucks. Person on the phone got mad when I asked a few questions sir that's your job relax big guy will never take my business there. Hope no one else does. Wish them the best. read more

Disorganized store with tons of clutter. Impressive selection of merchandise, especially gloves. If you are left-handed, there are a TON of gloves to choose from. Poor customer service at checkout. I felt like I was interrupting their conversation by wanting to buy something, and then the cashier who rang up my items was multitasking by scrolling through her phone's Facebook app. She barely said a word to me. Experiences like mine drive people to buy things online. read more

Great family owned baseball store; best in the SF Bay Area. Best selection of equipment at the best prices.

I have never experienced such horrible customer service. My family drove 50 minutes to this shop. We waited in line to pay for our items. Once we reached the counter, three employees (probably the owners and a clerk) were "working" as a team. I took the hangers off the pants and placed the items down. No eye contact from the owners or employee. No greetings. The lady rang the items up and then walked away. The men sat there while I made my payment. We spent a couple hundred dollars on gear and no one said "hello," "your total is...," or "thanks," not a peep. I was stunned. Shocked. read more

This is the Disneyland of baseball equipment. Amazing selections and great used items as well. Jeff gave me some great deals. No reason to go online when you can see first hand the merch. I think they are fairly priced. I enjoyed hearing customers talk baseball in the store and behind the counter. Thanks WCS! I will most definitely make the drive from Fremont when I'm in need of anything baseball. read more

Amazing place. Great, helpful owner and great deals on baseball equipment! Went there to get some cleats and ended up with much more!

Been buying all our son's baseball gear from here for the past few years. They've got everything you need at decent prices. Most of the workers are friendly and helpful when you ask for advice. Been recommending our friends and teammates to grab their basic gear from here. read more

You'll get dizzy from the sheer volume of sporting goods this place has (primarily baseball/softball stuff, some football, tiny bit of other sports). There are some great deals to be had (sales & clearance). For everything else, the prices are meh. You can find better prices online. Although I prefer to support local businesses, the owner Jeff can make it tough to do so sometimes. He is hit or miss in terms of attitude. One visit he'll be super positive, and on another he's Mr. Grumps. read more

Jeff the owner is extremely rude and arrogant. While the store has a wide variety to choose from, you need to be aware that the customer service is not always their priority. Jeff takes questions as a form of personal attack and cannot answer, let alone control his emotions. Jeff has an extremely poor "hold" policy, and claims that being a "small business" justifies his lack of functioning hold policies for his store. While there's a good selection, there's very minimal value once you factor in the poor customer experience and service. read more

West Coast is by far the best place to go for most all sports needs. Most of all baseball not only do they have everything you could ever want they have good prices read more

Never in my life has my family been treated with so much disrespect as we did by Jeff. He took the bat out of my son's hand because we were discussing pricing on the bat compared to online prices. He said he didn't want our business if we were going to "consider" shopping online. Then he proceeded to say that he didn't want our business and was trying to get us to leave, mind you we were going to buy a bat and a helmet and thought the store had great selections. He was beyond rude and made our experience uncomfortable for my entire family. I hope Paul sees this as he was very helpful but as soon as he left Jeff basically said he didn't want us there because we were comparing prices, never in my life will I be back to shop there and I will let all the baseball/softball community know how we were treated. ZERO STARS. read more

So I previously had a less than desirable experience here and had not returned for quite some time because of it.. I happened to be at a softball tournament in Hayward on a Saturday. My daughter's bat cracked and her birthday was the following day so I started calling around trying to find the Easton Ghost Spring Break bat in blue with no luck. I checked online and the best price I could find was $499 through Easton or Amazon but neither had a next day shipping option so I would not have it for her birthday. I decided to give West Coast a call and they confirmed they had it in stock. I went and picked it up and had it in the dugout as a surprise for her bday Sunday morning. I paid $369 out the door for the bat so I saved about $150. Jeff helped me and he was amazing, complete opposite experience than my previous. Jeff even offered to take an over the phone payments in the future and allow me to pick up merchandise from his house which is way closer to where I live. I also purchased a pair of matching batting gloves in youth large for $39.99 which ended up being to small when I went to exchange them for adult medium the price was $15 more expensive. Jeff helped me again and did not charge me the additional $15 read more

I went there to buy a batting helmet, something else and a couple dozen game balls. The old white guy behind the counter, (I'm an old white guy by the way), tried to con me into buying Rawlings practice balls to use as game balls. I told him I wasn't interested. He got super pissed off. WTF? Honestly, I felt a bit embarrassed for him. Perhaps it was menopausal hot flashes and mood swings? read more

Needed Softball gear last minute. Great selection. Good pricing. Don't expect staff to follow you around waiting hand and foot, but very available and helpful with even 'stupid' questions. Love this place! Definitely an all around thumbs up. read more

They have everything you need for good prices. They have the biggest inventory around in the Bay Area or Central valley. West Coast has very knowledgeable employees knowing what they talk about and talk, but in a align equipment to select from. read more

This place is throwback to old school sporting good stores. It's specializes in baseball and softball and at first it could be overwhelming. However I've always had great service here - you just need to ask and not be inpatient. They have all the newest bats and usually a bit less than MSRP. You demo them as well which is pretty awesome since some these things are $300+. Definitely a cool place to visit! read more

Best place hands down to get baseball gear in this time zone. There is no second place. You will not find better selection anywhere and you will find things at every price point. A local institution. read more

Purchased what I believed was a legit EvoShield product for my son. On the ride home, my 11-year-old noticed something was off -- he Googled the item, compared logos and strap details, and realized it was a knockoff. We returned to the store to address the issue, and instead of acknowledging the problem, the man who sold it to us became rude, dismissive, and even spoke down to my son as if he were scolding his own child. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful. I stayed calm because my children were with me, but I was shocked by his attitude. He sold the knockoff for $79, when the authentic EvoShield product is $109 at Dick's Sporting Goods -- and at least there, you know you're getting the real deal. I honestly don't know how this place is still in business. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. read more

The best place to look for baseball gear! They have an almost overwhelming selection of items. We recently came in for a catcher's gear set, and it was so good that they had a good selection, and we were able to try leg guards for fit - it's really important to get a set that feels comfortable, and you can really only tell in person. The price of the set we got was $50 cheaper than at big box stores or online, which was great - but honestly, I would have bought it here even if it in any case. read more

Jeff and his staff are amazing! Super kind and knowledgeable. It also helps that he has the best prices and recommendations. It is obvious that he is passionate about baseball. read more

This is a sports gear paradise! If you need team shirts, baseball pants, bats, gloves, cups, balls, helmets, whatever-all things sports, this place has got it. It's a packed warehouse full of what you need when the next season is up and your kid has grown out of last year's pants. You can find some deals here, too. I also find that once I'm here, I almost always see something else I need for another son's upcoming season or things other team families are looking for. It's a little off the beaten path, tucked off of Alvarado Ave in San Leandro, but definitely worth the trip. read more

I called today to ask some simple questions about a baseball helmet my son needs for a travel baseball team with a uniform policy that includes the make and colour of their helmets. The person who answered the phone was a little dry but nothing serious. It turned out they had the helmet and although I live in Menlo Park I was ready to head to San Leandro. But the minute I asked the price of the helmet he completely changed his tone and raised his voice at me scoffing at the fact that I asked if it was around $50. Too bad that they've just me as a customer and my son will probably play baseball for another 9-10 years. read more

Just the absolute go to for any sports parent. Baseball is what they specialize in and the amount of gear they have is limitless! Jeff and his wife are just great folks, not to mention the old golden they have that greets you while you shop. A must if you need baseball gear! read more

They have everything you would need for baseball and softball. You can outfit yourself and team from head to toe with everything here. From training aids to accessories. You can try bats hitting off of a tee here. There were a few random items for other team sports as well. Spacious warehouse setting. Merchandise can get a bit scattered. If you can get ahold of a staff member they can help you find your item and size. Friendly mom and pop setup. read more

While this place does have a great selection of baseball equipment, be aware that Jeff the owner has become an arrogant grump with lack of customer service. The phones are rarely answered now, and if they do pick up the phone - know that you get your one question answered with maybe 2 words and then a quick hang up. If you happen to make the drive there to ask your questions in person, it most likely will trigger him to feel attacked. His common responses include "it's people like you who go on the manufacturer's website and buy multiples and sell on eBay that makes it hard for business like mine to acquire inventory. Have a nice day." Really Jeff? If I'm one of them, why would I waste my time driving to your warehouse to look for the bat? As a family that has spent thousands of dollars at his business, it's disappointing to become one of Jeff's punching bag. It's families like mine that contributed to keeping your doors open, Jeff. read more

Old man at the register was extremely rude! We bought 2 bats and he didn't even say thanks. Threw the credit card down on the counter and said sign! Wow unbelievable. How about a thank you for shopping and have a great day?! A smile is free! read more

We've been buying baseball equipment for my son since for the past 6 years while he played in Little League. Now he's in high school and Jeff and his staff continue to be great. Recently went to buy a new first baseman's glove and I'm glad that Jeff gives us options versus trying to upsell us. If you've never been, you'll be amazed with all of the "hidden rooms" filled with equipment. Last time he walked us through the upstairs looking for a new fielding glove and we found the perfect fit. And almost forgot to mention, I make the long trek to this store because their prices are hard to match. Jeff has over 40 years of experience in sports equipment, so if you get a chance just talk to him and ask him questions. You won't regret it! read more

I had no idea this place existed until a couple of Dads on the Team introduced me to it. Upon our first visit, I knew we were going to be hooked for life. So far we have bought travel ball bats, gloves, batting gloves, protective gear, shirts, hats, seeds, gum, balls and more from Jeff and his crew. They are always super helpful, but the place gets packed on most Saturdays so go in knowing you might have to spend some time there both looking around for what you need and waiting for someone to help you. Once you do get someone, they are really helpful and will go out of their way to get you what you need. read more

West Coast is a baseball players heaven! They have the top of the line gear for discounted prices. All the pro gloves and all the brand name bats are here for much cheaper than retail. I bought a Rawlings Heart of the Hide for $209 and an Old Hickory maple bat for $80. Jeff, the owner, was very helpful and knowledgeable when I needed help finding something. This place has everything you can think of: big name bats, popular model gloves, batting gloves, cleats, uniforms, training gear all for discount. I will be definitely coming back to get my son geared up for his first season! He now knows this place as THE baseball store. read more
