a plate of sushi rolls with sauce
Nikkie E.

So the first worry is the fact that the majority of their plates offer imitation crab meat. That's really odd considering they have a roll with fresh soft shelled crabmeat. This sushi is mediocre at best. Expensive, generic, basic, and really nothing to write home about. We left feeling pretty sick really. Tried to make the best of it, but there's just nothing good happening here. The prices are high for less than mediocre food. Fake meat? No thank you. This is a pass all day long. And we tried several rolls. Just, no thank you.

A for effort. Very accommodating for our special order creations and the sushi was very fresh tasting. The owners have done a cute job transforming the place and making the most of it. I still feel they might want to look at it from a "clients eye" and hide a bit more service items and get rid of the awful Pepsi- wait to be seated sign. The server was delightful and we enjoyed her knowledge and enthusiasm.

Downtown with limited parking. The place could use some renovations. It's not a typical Japanese place nor is it a fast food hibachi joint. Place a to go order and it was very fast. The ginger dressing is very very thick and not at all well puréed. Didn't care for the dressing. The sushi saved the day however, as it was delicious and well made. I really enjoyed the sexy dragon roll. The negatives- when I arrived there were 2 people outside sitting right beside the entrance panhandling for "kerosene money". No one wants to be questioned going in and out for money. As for the biggest negative, it would be tHat if you don't have cash, they charge you a 3.99% fee on your bill. Not a tip, but a few to use your card. They also apparently charge 18% on parties of 6 or more, which is typical, but that on top of a 3.99% fee isn't kosher.

Best I've had since moving back from California and Texas! Staff is super friendly and very helpful. All the sushi rolls are amazing! They also have hibachi! I haven't had anything bad here yet! Definitely a keeper!

Wonderful fresh crab salad with a side of sweet carrots. I love the fact that it's extremely consistent and easy to visit in downtown.

Decent place, tables are sticky, dirty menus, place is overall kinda unkept-looking. Decent food though.

The Red Dragon was pretty decent but the other rolls we go were blah. Seems like the Sushi (rice) needed a different sugar:salt ratio.

It's Bourbon Thyme is a fantastic cocktail that paired really well with every item we ate too. We started with the wedge salad, which had. A lovely ginger dressing. The Tuna Tataki is a must, really nice rolled slices or raw tuna with the peppers and the ponzu sauce, truly amazing. The shishito peppers were wonderful and nicely charred with a great dipping sauce. The seabass may have been the tastiest item, the butter sauce and roasted lemon sauce was exceptional. We finished up with the carrots and bbq ribs, which were crispy on the outside but tender as you bit into the rib meat. Service was stellar as expected for any Michelin rated restaurant. I'm def coming back here soon, the bar looks nice and they have nice Ramen bowls and other items I want to try.

The sliced Hanachi in in ponzu with Serrano peppers was creamy, fresh, with a bit of heat..amazing. Almost everything we had was over the top delicious except for the Pork Belly stick. It was dry and overcooked. The cocktail menu is equally unique and my gin 'So Fresh So Green' was divine..gin, green pea ginger, lemon and scallion tincture. Fresh, bright, and earthy all in one. Perfection!!!

No draft beers from what I saw, only bottled beer which is fine. We all got Sapporo which was nice, 22oz tall boys. For food we all got hibachi which was delicious - I was surprised how flavorful and delicious it was. I personally got the steak and chicken and loved it. Like all hibachi you get soup, salad, shrimp, and the hibachi meal you ordered with fried rice. We all left full and happy. The staff was super friendly and we were sat quickly, our orders were taken quickly and the food and drinks came out quick. Only thing that could have been improved was the hibachi tricks! Spinning knives and the egg in the hat are a classic - but no onion volcano !? no sake water gun!? Gotta step up the production value here lol, overall a great spot though.

The inside looks a bit outdated, but it was not that big of a deal to me as everything was running properly. I thought that the chefs were very cool to watch. I got the Hibachi Chicken. It was a really filling meal! This place does not skimp out on portions. I enjoyed how tender the zucchini and chicken were cooked and the shrimp sauce made it taste a lot better (who does not love shrimp sauce?!). I thought that everything was seasoned well, but a bit too well? My meal was a bit salty for my liking, but that is just a personal preference. As my first hibachi experience, I would probably give this place a 3.5/5 stars if I could. It is not overly fancy and works for a place like Hickory.
