I NEVER write yelp reviews but I had to. My friend and I had a very bad experience here. We made appointments to make sure we could be fit in. When we arrived, they were severely understaffed, leaving my friend with a long wait for her pedicure. For me, I got a pedicure and when I went for my tips, french gel, I was told they didn't have enough time to do what I wanted (even though I had made an appointment). When it came time to pay, my pedicure (& callus removal) was $43 while my friend was charged $35 for a full manicure and pedicure. When I brought up this discrepancy in price, they asked for my friend's card back and charged her again. This is not what a business is supposed to do as it was their mistake with charging us the wrong amount. I was met with rude tone and no understanding from the staff. The salon is very clean. They have plastic dividers up and the nail stations are spaced out for social distancing. The staff are very friendly and made the experience great. The only issue I had was my nail tech was a bit rough doing my nails and ended up nicking me with the tools twice. She was very apologetic, just wish she would of been a bit careful! First off there pedicures are not worth $30.00 if you can't dry your pedicure properly after being serviced , the nerve ;-))) of this place . Your still charging regular prices but would like your customers to sit for 2 mins in the waiting area then leave . You have to be kidding me ?? This place is a complete joke !!! The young lady who did my pedicure was sweet & did a good job, however the owners were cordial enough;-(((. I understand we're in a pandemic, not dismissing this virus at all . My girlfriend and I went to go get our nails done at Kim's Nails in Summit for an afternoon date. I got a regular polish manicure, and she got uv gel acrylics. Mine were mediocre, but the woman who did my girlfriends nails seemed really new, and she didn't put enough coats, didn't size the tips correctly, was very distracted the whole time, and the nails are falling off on the same day, a few hours later. Very bad experience. When I asked if my nails could be finished within an hour, they said yes but that was far from the truth. Hideously long time, technician didn't listen on nail shape, she was distracted and messy as she worked. To be completely honest. This place didn't make me jump up and down. The people were nice when you first walk in and then when you leave but in-between they didn't talk to you unless you spoke to them. Not saying I'd go there expecting a conversation but the experience should be somewhat pleasant, right? The lady that did my pedicure said not a single word to me but talked like a sailor in Spanish to her friends. (I took Spanglish for 3 years). And the lady that did my manicure was nice and answered my questions and asked me a few. Which was nice. Ok so aside from the lack of personality here, my service was OK. I love Kim's Nails! Im so saddened that I moved to California. When In NJ, I would travel 30 minutes just to get a pedicure here. They give the BEST pedicures, well worth the $25 bucks. I never had to wait when I come. Service is immediate. Also, they understand my clumsy tendencies. I have to say that I mess up my pedicure every single time I get one. Even If I go home and come back the next day, they fix it free of charge. They'll probably know who this is just by that description, lol. Manicures are also very good here, and they give you massages as you're getting your nails done. Only thing is the polish doesn't last too long. It literally chips off the whole nail, but once again I am hard on my hands and feet. Regardless, still love Kim's nails. They also have great taste in candy ;) Be prepared to pay for parking. The street it's located of off was doing some serious construction the last time I was there, so finding parking takes me 10 minutes alone. Ive been getting my eyebrows done here for years and have never had a problem until the other day. I told the woman to not make my eyebrows too thin and now they're barely there. The wax they used was so hot it burnt my skin and I now have a blister. She didn't even tweeze anything or wax the middle or wipe off the wax she used on me when she was done. I went in with my daughter for two gel manicures, eyebrow and lip wax for me. When it came time to pay and give a tip, I handed my technician (who I think is the owner) my tip. She looked at the bill and at me and had a look of "are you kidding". She then reminded me that she had also done my waxing, indicating it should definitely be more. My sister found this place and she likes it because they use a freshly sanitized set of tools on each customer. Ever since I've tried it, I've been making my trek all the way here to get pedicure, manicure & eyebrow wax. The pedicures are better than the manicures as they usually spend more time and care on it. And they're open till 7:30 on the weekdays. I usually come early Saturday mornings but I came around 6pm this week and there was barely anyone there. I moved back to Summit within the last year and b/c of convenience have gone to Kims for manicures, pedicures and 3 or 4 massages with SUE. First off the owner is impossible to deal with (he is completely in his own zone...he stands over everyone like a Gestapo) has absolutely no personality as well as all of the Korean employees except for Sue, she brings a bit of personality to the mix! Sad but he treats the woman who do the Pedicures like they are second class! he only lets them do manicures if the client requests them! The woman who do the manicures have rushed and ripped up my cuticles many time... I along with many of my friends are done with this place! Like the previous reviewer I live in Boston and was in Summit for a visit. I was going to a wedding and needed a pedicure. My friend made me an appt here and they still offered the $25 mani/pedi deal. My pedicure was an okay experience, but it literally chipped within 24 hours. I have had pedicures that never chipped from other places and less than a day of nice toenails is pretty sad. Then I had the WORST manicure I have ever had. I didn't want any polish, and I didn't have any polish on (I never put polish on my fingernails), just a nice buff for shine, which I said twice before the woman started. She still put nail polish remover on my nails--unneccessary. Then she TORE at my cuticles and made me bleed--it is two days later and I had to put a bandaid on my finger last night because it still hurt and was raw. Yuck. Then at the end she waved some clear polish at me, I said yet again no, I'd just like a buff, and she said that was $5 extra. Thanks for telling me earlier. My nails didn't look any better than when she had started, in fact worse because of the one bloody spot! Yikes! So while the pedi was not bad, merely a mediocre 2 star, the mani was so bad, I have to give one star. Guess it really depends on which manicurist you get when you come here. I like Kim's for permanent french, shellac, and pedicures. They do a nice job and the staff is friendly. Their full body massages are great and I think I've tried everywhere in Union, Essex and Morris counties. Both Sue and Vicki do deep tissue that you will hope will never end. read more

I was in Summit running errands and thought I'd give Kim's a try since I was pressed for time and I like the Kim's in Maplewood. I asked for a pedicure and got a huffy response from the man who is the manger (I'm guessing). I was seated within a few minutes but it took 10 minutes for anyone to come...and they gave me a brand new girl. I was her first customer (ever), no English spoken, and she didn't know how to use the utensils! I had to help her and luckily I know some Spanish and how to use the iTranslate app for the words I didn't know. She gave me the worst pedicure I've ever had. As soon as she was done massacring my feet, the manager said, "Pay now!" He should have paid ME for helping to train his staff. Poor girl. And my poor feet! Never again will I come here. read more

God awful! Dry manicure, they never bothered to soak my nails. Nails were so badly filed that I had to wrestle the file and refilled my own nails. Cuticles were not pushed back or cleaned properly, really slip sod work. Did Shellac, it was mediocre, I could have done better at home. They had just one other customer that day but they seem to be rushing through my entire mani/pedi. My manicurist was one of the Korean ladies. Kim's is the best choice among the local options, which is not saying much. The price is $30 for a mani-pedi, which is the going rate around the area. I just started working in Summit and went to Kim's for a manicure/pedicure. I was pretty disappointed and I was not expecting much, so that says a lot. First of all, the massage chairs used for the pedicures don't work. The pedicure was okay, but nothing special. Then I got my manicure. It started out okay, but when they started applying the nail polish I noticed that the woman doing my nails was apply very thick coats. I looked my hand after she completed the first hand and was pretty horrified to see that I had this enormous layer of nail polish on my nails. I waited patiently to see what she would do next since this was my first time at this salon - who knows maybe she has some way to thin it out? Well she finishes my second hand and applies the top coat. I look at my nails and they are absolutely horrible. I can see the huge layer of nail polish sitting on the top of my nails, thinking she can't be done. As she starts to pack up my stuff and move me to the drying area, I say to her "don't you think the nail polish looks a little thick?" She then tells me yeah she knows but the color I picked was too thick and that was the best she could do. I could have let my nails dry for 24 hours and they still would have been wet if I had left them like that. When she realized that I was not happy, she says "I know it is too thick so maybe if you chose a different color I could do better." That is something I would have expected her to tell me before applying two coats plus a top coat! So much for a quick mani/pedi during lunch! I did pick another color and had to sit through her removing all my nail polish and starting over. Even the second time I had to ask her if the nail polish was okay for her to apply. In the end, she did an okay job, but since the color of the first nail polish was so dark she had lost her patience removing it all and you can still see a bit of a halo of dark around my nail beds. Being generous I gave Kim's 2 stars, but I can say with assurance I will not be going there again. read more

I've been here a few times and I've never had a good experience. The salon is very close to my home or else I would never go back. They do OK manicure and pedicure, but the polish never stays on. After a week my pedicure is chipped and my manicure barely lasts 3 days. They are open on sundays which is the only good thing about the salon. If you are stuck and need a mani/pedi on Sunday I'd go here but any other day of the week find a different salon. read more

I am new to the Summit area. I have been getting my nails done for about 15 years (NYC) and unfortunately Kim's Nails is one of the worst places I have ever been too. My first time there I spent $100 plus tip for a new set of nails and a 8 minute pedicure -- they didn't even let me finish drying my nails fully, they rushed me out of there because it was past their closing time. My nails were ruined 5 seconds after I walked out the door. I went home and had to redo my own nails (reminder I paid them over $100.00 and yet I am the one doing a better job?) I am a firm believer of giving people a second chance. I went back 2 weeks later (with 4 missing nails) they looked at them and said "oh may these are old". Old? They were only 2 weeks old. I've had sets on for longer then 3 months! Also, I have NEVER been in so much pain when getting my nails done. My nails were burning me when she was working on my set. It was horrible. Needless to say, its been 2 1/2 weeks since I went back to Kim's Nails and I have 3 nails missing and 2 that the acrylics missing. The one thing that was nice seeing was that they use freshly sanitized set of tools on each customer and sadly that's the only one positive. read more

My husband and I have been going to Kim's Nails for years just because they are near our house. I have never been satisfied with the service but today was the last straw. I went in with my husband and daughter for massage, manicures and pedicure. We were all taken back for our services. Two of the salon employees came back. They totally passed me over and started working on my daughter and husband even though I was there first. They have consistently stuck me with the person whom both my husband & I agree is terrible. Even though I have cautioned her several times about not cutting one of my toenails, she does it anyway and she has caused me to bleed several times. I finally learned that she doesn't speak or understand English. I asked not to have her again but the management consistently assigned her to me. It happened again today after they passed me over and I waited over 10 minutes for her to come to do my pedicure. I told her I needed a different person and she ignored me. I asked for the manager. And she brought me a stack of magazines. Another employee was free and available the entire time that I was waiting and he clearly ignored me. I recommend to anyone to pay the extra money somewhere else where you can have a good experience. They are terrible there. read more
