My friend and I went for spray tans here. There was a literal child behind the reception desk, a young boy (I'm not joking; I don't know where the adults were). Needless to say, he couldn't find our appointments. He managed to squeeze us in, apparently by giving us some other woman's timeslot bc she showed up pitching a fit during our sprays. We asked where to go for the service. And instead of going behind reception to the salon rooms, we were sent back out the door to the salon, up a few flights of stairs inside an old apartment building. When we got to the piles of black garbage bags stacked in the hallway, the door to the spray room was to the right. There's a tiny, shabby waiting room, if you can call it that, and a janky storage room/janitor closet. Plus, the woman getting sprayed had left her stuff all over the one chair, open handbag and everything. The tan itself didn't really look like much, except on my face, which was really dark. But everywhere else you couldn't really notice it. So, nope. Would not recommend. I was SUPER impressed with Rosana (the owner, but also a wax specialist herself) on our second trip back to Girl from Ipanema Spa. Not only was she super personable, but she also really cared about making sure my eyebrows were moving in the direction I was trying to go. She took the time to talk through different shapes with me -- it turns out I like the straight shape look -- and showed me how I could get there with a growth encouragement product at home. Rosana showed such incredible expertise too, drawing out the symmetrical lines I should strive for to achieve the look I wanted. I absolutely appreciated the time she took to make my appointment successful. They have good covid measures in place too right now, with a temperature check at the door, a big jug of hand sanitizer on the front desk, and masks required all around. Came here for a quick Brazilian wax which was definitely quick! It was slightly more painful than usual maybe because i hadn't been waxed in months due to covid. My esthetician was Rosana and she was very pleasant, however i felt she was a little too rough and didn't apply pressure after she ripped the wax off which is really important so it won't hurt even more than it already does. She would rip then rip immediately right after not giving me time to process the pain. Also, i realized I'm a lot more swollen than i normally get after waxing. It's been over 24 hours and I'm still sore. The establishment is set up beautifully and it's very clean and smells good. The wax was soft and my skin feels smooth. The pricing is a little higher than i normally pay of $40-45 for the same hard wax and clean establishment. Maybe it's because of the summit area I'm assuming. $55 is kind of steep. I did receive 50% off for my first visit. I would come back if i was able to get another technician whose more gentle. Overall , i would come back here if i couldn't find anywhere for cheaper. read more

I couldn't be happier. She's amazing, gentle, caring, and even understanding of my hesitation to let anyone touch my brows besides the woman who has been shaping them for 7 years. Can't recommend this spa enough. Pristinely clean and serene environment. I have very sensitive skin but noticed that the wax they used wasn't as harsh as other establishments. Other wax salons will have a regular wax and then a premium price for the softer, sensitive skin wax. This place only offers the better sensitive skin wax. I also found out the owner had previously formulated and mixed her own wax so the wax they use was originally her formula. This is hands down the best experience I have ever had for a Brazilian wax, or any other waxing, beauty services. The owner Rosanna has been making her own wax for years. It is very high quality, and is great for sensitive skin. Alex does a fabulous job with Brazilian, eyebrow, or any other waxing/tinting services. Since I've discovered this place (thanks, Yelp) I've gone to others and find myself regretting these lapses in judgement. I go here for regular brazillians, I LOVE the wax they use. It's (relatively) pain free and gets the job done well. Ingrown hairs have subsided (TMI? Perhaps) Best part is it's quick - in and out in 10 minutes. The staff is friendly. I am originally from Philadelphia and for the last 4 years have been traveling back and forth to get waxed because I haven't been able to find a clean, thorough, friendly aesthetician in North Jersey until I visited Girl from Ipanema. It was amazing! And if you've ever had an Brazilian you know those words rarely, if ever, go together. They were able to take me within 30 minutes of making a last-minute appointment. I only had to wait 5 minutes to be seen and they only use hard wax which makes the hair extracting process far less painful. The ambiance is welcoming and relaxing and the staff is very friendly. My aesthetician, DiDi, was great and I highly recommend her. Little does she know she's stuck with me. The most exciting part, the prices are FABULOUS. Full leg and Brazilian for $95 and trust me, as a woman who has scoured the state of NJ in an effort to stay off the turnpike for a waxing, you can't beat that! read more

As other reviewers have said, bikini waxes are never really pleasant experiences, so you know you have found a great place when you simply don't mind going ('cause you will never really look forward to going). Shawn (a girl) was super sweet and efficient and did a fine job. She and I chatted and laughed while she did her thing - and believe it or not I had fun! I was not a regular waxer (this was only my second time ever, the first time was at an uppity and expensive local salon) but thanks to the cool atmosphere and reasonable prices ($40 bikini), I will definitely be going back to GFI with regularity. ** Update, 15 months later: GFI is still my go-to spot for waxing. The receptionist is not the nicest. I was not greeted immediately upon walking in even though there was no one else in the reception. As for the hard wax, I will say that I've definitely had better and was a bit disappointed. Wax was left on me and I found it odd that she had to go over places multiple multiple times. The reason I like hard wax is that it is clean and the times I've had it it's super quick and hair comes off like that. Was told the wax was homemade so that may be why? Must prefer my brazilians elsewhere. At checkout, the receptionist once again was pretty rude. Some man was explaining something to her (which I think could've waited until she took care of the clients) and then she made me wait before she checked me out. Parking was pretty difficult. I will not come back again not because of the parking but because 1) for the price you pay for the waxing job you should not have wax left on your body and 2) the waxing job itself wasn't great - not sure why you would have to go over the same area 3 times or more. Caused skin irritation and this is not my first time getting a brazilian and 3) the receptionist's attitude and service is unacceptable. I went to Shawn a few times for Brazilian and underarm and she did not disappoint. I'm sure you all know about the free wax deal offered at every European wax center for new clients. Well, I decided to go for underarms and it wasn't that bad...but they offered packaged which ended up being cheaper than most salons so I bought one for underarms and Brazilian and boy was I upset. I have been to two locations and through five different waxers...only one was good and she's not always there. Shawn is available whenever I need her and Girl from Ipanema really isn't expensive compared to other salons. Don't make the same mistake I did and stick with this salon!!! read more
