I have been to Woodhouse Spa in Summit many times for about 7 years and have recommended to a lot of people. I have always been happy. This was not the case over a week ago. I was supposed to have a 50 minute tranquil stone massage, gifted by my children. I received at most 20 minutes of hands on massage...that was it! Apparently my masseuse was injured therefore it appeared that it was most difficult for her to deliver my service. (Mind you, the assistant manager had offered me a male masseuse prior to my service but since I am more comfortable with females I declined...I should have picked up on that) At the conclusion I spoke at length with the asst manager regarding my dissatisfaction. She offered to take some money off my bill (but it was a gift card so it didn't have any effect) and told me the GM (Sheila) would be contacting me and she would be able to compensate me more. I believe that I should have been given the opportunity to reschedule the service I had hoped for but she assured me the GM would make things right once she contacted me the following day. After waiting all day for a call, I called them. I was told they were very busy but that Sheila had received a very thorough email regarding my situation and she would be contacting me asap. 3 days later after no call, followed up with an email. No response. It is now another 6 days later and I have not received a word from anyone at Woodhouse Spa. Unfortunately they have lost me as a customer and I have made sure all my family and friends have heard about this very poor customer service. What a shame. read more

After a few years and build up of stress in my upper body and shoulders, she quickly found my trouble spots and spent time working them. The time flew by and I felt great. Great masseuses and estheticians. I have no problems with the staff that actually perform the services. They deserve all at least the 20% tip. My issue is with the staff at the reception desk that makes the appointments. My suggestions are as follows, do these and you will have a much improved experience: 1. Be sure to specify whether you want a male or female technician from the get go making an appointment. The reception staff will not ask you your preference when you call and will just assign you to anyone available. 2. Ask for a complete description of the service you are booking if you have never had it before. If you are buying a massage as a gift, specify that they need to let the gift receiver the choice of which type of massage they will receive when coming for the service. 3. Don't feel obligated ever to buy the products or packages suggested for you at the end of the service, unless of course you want to. They can be pricey and most likely you can find equivalent products in outside retail stores. Also, don't feel pressured to buy their "packages", another up sell you may not need. All in all, the spa is in a great location in downtown Summit. Very walkable with a lot of other cute stores and restaurants nearby. Enjoy! read more

I should have read the reviews here before making an appointment here. Arguably one of the worst massages I've ever had. Calling it a massage is a stretch. The 'treatment' was a brush down with an old, bristly brush and a rub down with zero pressure and not enough cream. I never thought it was possible, but I actually came back feeling worse than when i went in. Worst $300 I've spent. I think this place is absolutely amazing. I remember how I came there once and I was having such a bad day. The front desk took me in, showed me the cute quiet room, brought me a neck warmer and warm tea! What other spa offers a neck warmer?! I loved it. Then, I had a Swedish massage and a facial. I really liked the organic products that were used. Skin felt amazing, muscles on my back were relaxed. Pedi was great. Stuff is also amazing and so patient! Thank you guys so much! Had my first experience here today. I was gifted a stone massage but I did peek at the receipt and this place is pretty expensive (over $300) and the massage was not the greatest. I'd give it a 5 out of 10. We left feeling unsatisfied. Also would have appreciated more of a private waiting area. Everyone was mixed in and it was quiet but small. Kinda awkward. Also upon checkout they ask about gratuity however they ask for percentage without advising you of your total before gratuity. The women and the counter suggested 18-20 percent which seemed like a lot to me. Felt pressured. Not the greatest of experiences. read more

so I have been to this location twice. Once for nail service which I loved cause it was very private! High quality items used. Loved the scrub that was used, my skin felt soft for a few days. Nails lasted a solid 6 days which to me says a lot about the prep. Gave good tips for diy nails also. Second visit I got a facial with chuck. Now as I hope you all do I did read reviews about the facials and by luck of the draw chuck was all over them. He was kind, considerate, listened and was very attentive to my skin needs. Brought my daughter-in-law here for her birthday. While massage services here were good, the facility has some issues compared to Woodhouse locations I've been to in Montclair and Naples, FL. Lockers did not lock at all or improperly (one could not be opened at end of appointment and master key was needed). Those with mobility issues should be aware that quiet room and changing rooms are on second floor and there is no elevator in building (and your massage may be on first floor, requiring multiple up and down stairs). There is no tea in quiet room (attendants will offer you tea after service). read more

We have been loyal customers for several years and always book the 110 minute massages for two people. Often we include our daughter. So that's 3 people (do the math). We tip extremely generously and are always on time, never giving anyone a hard time. We booked our Valentine's Day massages in December. Yesterday we were told that our massages would have to be 50 minutes this weekend because of changes in "shifts". Well, after some probing it appears that it's because the owner wants to squeeze more massages in for the holiday. So he's downgrading loyal customers to accommodate. Reading the reviews about the packed quiet room tells me that the owner is not service oriented, but just plain greedy. He's just lost us as customers. The place is very clean and pretty. The changing room a bit small. Staff are all friendly and nice! Had the deep sleep massage! Was looking forward to a nice long massage, 80 min. Until I found out at the last second, 20 min of the massage is them leaving you to sleep, zero massage! Pretty much as soon as the massage stopped I woke out of my relaxation/sleep. Just to lay there...I ended it early. I went on to my next treatment Seaweed marine eye compress treatment. Was a nice simple treatment for the eyes. Felt a bit rushed. I never thought I would like a spa other than DePasquale but Woodhouse has come pretty darn close. I first went here for a girls spa day. We were able to score a private room (the mani/pedi room) full of food, pastries and champagne while we waited for our appointment and to relax afterwards. While it wasn't a super relaxing room, it was so nice to have some space all to ourselves for so many hours. My masseuse was Shayna and she has quite possibly become my favorite masseuse of all time. She gives just enough depth in her massage while still keeping it relaxing and comfortable. The spa itself is very serene. I really like their relaxation room with teas, coffees, espresso, fruits, vegetables and small baked goods. A faux fire place and low lighting make this a haven for relaxation and calm. There are plenty of seats, couches and lounges to relax on and soft, cozy Ugg blankets to give you the full effect. The massage rooms are also perfectly suited with soft music, desirable smells and warm lighting. Their prices are very reasonable, especially for the area and you can make appointments online which is super helpful. They also have a rewards program where you can earn points towards spa services. The changing room is a bit small and the lockers are finicky but nothing that would keep me from returning. Definitely asking for a gift card to Woodhouse this holiday season! read more

I have been on the hunt for years for a good day spa in NJ. This is not it. The majority of pictures online are not from the spa. There is no locker room or spa room- its a bathroom where they threw a line of lockers on a wall and they put a bench in each normal sized toilet room. The so called "quiet room" was a small room packed with stained furniture and a fake fireplace. There was no space and you felt cramped. There was nothing quiet, relaxing or spa like in this room. The whole spa was was filthy and run down. My massage was fine, not worth the $200 price tag. My facial by Chuck was solid. He was the only bright spot in spending over $800 for my friend and I for her birthday. I found myself apologizing to my friend over and over for picking this spa. Very disappointed! read more

My face was a mess. The acne facial totally fixed it. Here's what happened: I have been overdosing on dove chocolate and caramel and it was clearly "surfacing" yesterday. I searched yelp and found the woodhouse. I called at 12 pm and they squeezed me in for a facial at 4:30 The outside of the place is actually wood so I thought that was cool. Inside the reception was warm and I was whisked upstairs, given a super comfy robe and slippers and told to wait in the waiting room. The room was fab. Comfy chairs and a faux fireplace. I have to admit the other people there were very loud. If I wasn't so worried about my freaky face I would have been more bummed. M The aesthetician got me on time. the treatment was FABULOUS!! I particularly liked these funky glass massage balls she used with the enzyme mask. Soo many good smells :) AND most importantly my face is HEALED today. 5 stars for the ambiance and treatment. Before they took you into the room, they asked you if there were certain areas you would want focus on and the pressure of the massage that you'd like. The massage was amazing. Facilities are clean and a pleasant atmosphere but has several issues. I experienced noise from construction. Men's facilities have bare minimum for a premium service. I could not find the towels, an overhead light was out and made the changing room dark. When pointed out, they never bothered to replace the bulb after 2 hours. There are no grooming essentials; not even a comb after after shower. Robes had a greasy feel to them. I emailed the spa to point these things out but they never responded. read more

The waiting room is very tranquil and they have lots of healthy snacks, teas, and water you can enjoy before or after your services. I went in for the seaweed manicure and the signature pedicure. She was a bit rough with the exfoliation and cuticle cutting--I got nicked twice and she said it was because my skin was too dry. I didn't make it a big deal but I feel like in that situation you just apologize and move on. The seaweed is gimmicky--doesn't really do anything and it was awkward that I was asked to walk over to the kitchen-like sink to wash off the product myself. All of that is what it is but I was disappointed with the lack of technique with the actual nail polish. The edges are so jagged and there was polish on my finger tips. It seemed no better than what I could do on my own. I may go back for other treatments but not for anything nail related. read more

Highly suggest you read this review in full, although lengthy, will save you the headache I've endured for ever walking in here: This place is an absolute joke. I'll start with the good, because there is some. I planned a bachelorette party here for my best friend and I will say that the party itself turned out to be wonderful. In addition to our services, we had the nail room set up for a private party, where we had a beautiful table full of refreshments and brunch, which we were allowed to bring in ourselves. The staff was extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. The manager, while nice and informative in the beginning, seemed disingenuous to me from the start and I should have gone with my gut. After an initial telephone call, where we worked out the details, she offered me to come in for a tour to check out the place before booking. When I showed up at the scheduled date and time for the tour, she wasn't there. Thankfully the girls at the front desk were kind and allowed me to look anyway and showed me around. However, after sharing what I discussed with the manager, they seemed confused and acted as if they were not able to provide me with what the manager had promised. Red flag, but I figured they just weren't as informed. Fast forward, I booked the party through the manager and although I had to reach out a number of times to confirm schedules and follow up directly, due to lack of communication, we were all set. *Once the day arrived, I had 7 girls getting services and everything was wonderful. However, we were asked to leave our private party 45 mins earlier than agreed upon, which I would have overlooked because it was a long day anyway, but upon leaving, I was blindsided. Literally as I was walking out, in FRONT of the bachelorette, I was told I had to pay a $200 fee for the private room. This was NEVER discussed prior, never ever brought to my attention and I found it extremely unprofessional of the staff to throw that on me in front of the soon to be bride. I paid it bc I did not want to make a stink or make the bachelorette feel uncomfortable, but it was wrong to put me in that position, especially after the amount of money we already spent that day. I called in private afterward and expressed by disdain, and after a few phone calls back and forth, I was told I'd receive a refund, which I did. Now onto to the most ridiculous part. I had purchased 2 products that day, which were used during my facial. Unbeknownst to me, these products contained chemicals, such as parabens, that I do not like to use on my skin. I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and told the man giving me my facial that I did not like using anything with irritants in it, as I get extremely red, blotchy, and my skin dries up to the point of feeling like sandpaper. Once I got home and looked at the ingredients, I realized these products included multiple chemicals that I cannot use. I never opened them or even removed them from their boxes. Of course, these slime balls who nickel and dime you out of every cent, refused to take back the most expensive product, claiming it had been used. Literally unopened and no product missing, they conveniently decided that bc there was oil around the rim of the cap, that it was their "policy" to not take it back. Let's be honest, it's 80 degrees outside, the product was in my car and of course some oil may drip out the top when you flip it upside down to "inspect it" over and over to "approve a return." These assholes look for any reason to screw over a client and keep every penny they can. Keep in mind, I provided thousands of dollars of business the day of the party, and they are obsessing over $102 dollars. After serious back and forth, and the poor girl at the front desk being in the middle bc of the manager/owner refusing to speak with me directly, I was offered a service credit, rather than a return. I'd rather drink this oil myself than walk into this establishment again. I never opened this product, but for arguments sake, every other cosmetic retailer allows you to return products (even if they are used and half empty) because you do not like it or it doesn't agree with your skin. You would think a spa in affluent area like Summit, NJ wouldn't need to pocket every dime. I have 2 words for the manager, Sheila and the owner, Veeren: SLIME. BALLS. Get into another profession. My sister and I spent around 1k to take my mom here for her birthday. They messed up their scheduling and as a result cut services out of our packages that had been scheduled over a month early. They did it to someone else who was there at the same time as we heard another woman complaining about the same issue. Seems they may purposely overbook. They didn't even tell my sister they weren't doing her final service and left her sitting in the "quiet" room for an hour until I went to get her. When she asked about the wait they just kept telling her it would be soon. They also dishonestly upsold us on two of the three facials. We were told the upgrade would be $20 each, but it was $50. They took the upgrades off but refused to compensate us for the inconvenience of cancelling and cutting short our other services. The technicians and front desk staff were all very nice and professional and did the best they could. The manager was apparently in the basement and never showed her face to deal with the issue, except to allow the front desk staff to take off the upgrades that we never would have agreed to in the first place had we known the actual price. I reached out to the guest services email and waited over a week but no response. We definitely won't be returning. read more

I could also hear conversations, doors slamming and constant walking back and forth outside the treatment room. When I spoke to the manager, she mostly blamed it on a busy Saturday and a couple having a massage next door and offered me 10% refunded off of my service. Woodhouse Spa should be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately, my experience was ruined at checkout. I went to this spa with a spa finder gift card I received as a gift. Upon arrival I re-confirmed that they still accepted these and they did confirm that yes, they do. (Great! I thought...) My service was completed and I went to check out. I handed over my $200 gift card for a $170 service and they said, I'm sorry we only accept up to $100 on these. I felt blindsided since I had asked specifically about these cards upon arrival and honestly, that sounds like a completely made up rule to force your client to come back and spend more money at another visit. I never of heard anything like before. It's like saying you take AMEX at a restaurant, then the customer comes with a $500 Amex gift card, spends $500, and they say...oh you can only use an Amex gift card for $100 of this and now you owe $400 out of pocket. Now you are left spending $400 of unplanned money and you have to go back to use the card again. Or what you could have done if they were transparent was not be so extravagant and spend your money differently so you could have 5 nice visits. That would be ridiculous if a restaurant did this, right? Of course it would be. I was so frustrated so she "called the manager" who approved the use of my entire gift card. I was so annoyed at that point (my relaxation from my services was ruined!) and I feel like the only reason this rule would exist would be to con your clients into spending more money next time. I would have gone back again in the future, but this ruined my visit and I would never go back to a place that tried to take advantage of customers like this. This customer was successfully lost. This is not my first time at a spa, but this was my first time at this spa. It is really beautiful and right downtown in Summit. However, the reception staff is cold and unconcerned. Oddly, the owner just stands to the side of the desk and lurks. Very creepy. My massages was Wonderful!! But that was it. The facial left me greasy and the woman who did it spent a good deal of time selling me products and telling me how wrong I was treating my skin. My pedicure was rediculus. I would have gotten way better at my favorite nail salon. Overall, the place is clean and quiet and the massage was very nice, but, for the price, not worth it. Too bad. read more

I just got an amazing Swedish massage from Shayna! I've been having really bad upper and lower back pain for about a year - mostly from lifting and carrying a growing baby, and also from sitting in an uncomfortable office chair every day at work. I've been searching for a therapist who can help relieve the pain and Shayna has re-set the bar! Woodhouse is a welcoming place, with a dimly lit, relaxing tea room for pre & post-service Me Time. And it smells like lavender. The staff is professional and responsive. They really want you to have a great experience. It's an absolutely perfect spot for a quick weekend pick me up. The lady used the file to push back cuticles, stones were so hot burned my soles, cuticles were trimmed so tight that I'm surprised I'm not bloody, my nails are so short, the polish is bubbling, the massage was just lotion being rubbed around my legs, etc. Worst part is that I watched the pedicure next to me and it truly looked enjoyable. Quiet room isn't quiet. People are talking on their cell phones and ladies locker room full, no available lockers so I opted to carry around my clothes and purse around. Other option was to have an attendant take them to the men's locker room. Not convenient! I have a package and once it is done I will not renew. I went to this spa for an eyebrow wax and a pedicure. The eyebrow wax was an awful experience. My brows weren't waxed evenly and worse, the stylist tried to upsell me on various procedures at the end of the waxing. I absolutely hate upselling--especially when I am already spending a fair amount just to be there. Worse, her upselling involved insulting me and saying "but you want to stay beautiful, don't you?" Yuck. Then the pedicurist started the session by complaining at length about her personal life. I had just met her, and wanted to relax, which was all but impossible under the circumstances. Most egregiously, in my opinion, I sent a very polite letter to the manager of the spa requesting that the stylists not engage in upselling or implying there was something wrong with the appearance of their clients...and got NO response. None. I have gone to many spas and salons in and around the NYC area (Bliss, Oasis, Fringe, Bumble & Bumble, etc.) and never had such an unpleasant experience. read more
