It is not ON the beach as they say. Rooms are OLD and SMALL. Felt like a motel for the price of a 4 star hotel. Very disappointed.

Had a solid stay overall, just one night and using IHG points. It looks like cash prices vary wildly, so those higher spikes (along with the relatively high resort fee all the time) is the main downside. I really like historic hotels with character, this one was great in that respect, very emblematic of the area: architecture, lobby, decor. But historic hotels have some tradeoffs, like room size, but ours was perfectly good. Amazing location, right on the beach and a short walk to Ocean Drive. As standard for Kimpton hotels, welcoming wine hour from 5-6pm and morning coffee in the lobby. Great staff all around. We had a drink in the bar, very well made creative drinks. read more

We got a cabana. Was good. Wish they made them closer to the pool so you can have sun as well as shade and all hang out together. The waiter would disappear for long periods of time so was hard to meet the min food and beverage. But was clean and beautiful read more

Resortpass cabana review: I popped my resortpass cherry and I couldn't be any happier. Totally worth the money! I rented the Ivy cabana and a daybed for my party of 7. We had plenty of space in the shade and under the Miami sun. The service was great and the bar pricing may be a little more than yush, but the convenience was above and beyond. I love that we were able to cool off in our cabana and get a lot of sun by the pool, daybed, and the beach. Surfcomber had a small sand area with games like bags, ping pong, and giant connect four. At 1pm ish, the dj came on and played EDM bangers! It was definitely the darty I was looking for. I specifically love that it wasn't packed and there was a lot of room to swim, chill, and hang. The food and drinks were tasty, especially the comp GH mumm champs. Delish! Our server was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and efficient. I loved my experience here and I can't wait to return. Next time though, I will rent the Trumpet cabana, surrounded by greeneries and luxe teakwood room with lots of privacy. There is a minimum spend of $350 per cabana on the weekends but you will easily spend that on food and drinks. Live it up and love it!!! Besos. read more

Loved our stay here. THE FOOD AT THIS HOTEL IS PHENOMENAL! Everything that we ordered, from either High Tide or Social Club was DELICIOUS and great portions. We barely wanted to venture out because the food was THAT GOOD! Very impressed! Drinks were also great. The hotel and pool area are simply beautiful, and the pool is just a few steps away from the beach. I see complaints on here about the size of the room and service charges. The rooms are smaller, yes, but our time was spent outside of our rooms. I thought they were just fine! Service charge - if you plan to go to a hotel and get waited on, served drinks, etc. you should expect to tip these workers. Gratuity is added to every bill, which I think made things EASIER. These workers were all so lovely and worked so hard to get us what we needed. Please stop complaining about gratuity being added. You should be tipping staff wherever you go anyways.:) Would come back to this hotel. I miss it already :) read more

Save.your.money.!!! The ONLY thing I liked about the hotel was the downstairs bar/restaurant; it has a cute vibe, but is REALLY overpriced. I paid $40 for 2 mimosas, do yourself a favor snd wait for happy hour. I paid $350 for the most basic room, and was very disappointed. Small room, view outside the window of a building, carpet looked old, room smelled, dirty benches in the room, and fire detector was missing from the wall. Just looked very run-down, was a huge disappointment for the money. Extra charges showed up on my credit card and when I called to sort everything out, the front desk told me they were unable to help. They just "couldn't review the breakdown of my bill" (never heard that from a hotel before). Also note, valet is $50 per night. Would NOT come back. read more

Good location. Hotel pool has a decent vibe. I like that they have a 5 pm wine and beer service for guests. One thing that would quickly turn my 2 stars to 4 is their housekeeping crew. The cleaning crew was on our floor as early as 8 am but somehow our room doesn't not get cleaned until closer to 5 pm. When they do clean, their service is mediocre. They do not refill the soap or toiletries. The least that they could also do is wipe the bathroom sink clean. I understand that some places may be short staffed but I saw so many ladies that were part of the cleaning crew lingering on our floor. I used to like this hotel because they had turn down service which is why I decided to stay here a second time. They still have the service, however, they didn't come by my room the first night. The second day, I specifically requested the service and they didn't service the room. I'm truly disappointed. I should not have to call or come downstairs to the hostess desk to request housekeeping services every night. I hope they turn this around. read more

Excellent hotel in a great location. Within walking distance to several restaurants and shops nearby. The beach access is awesome. The pool area is large and has enough room to spread out. The hammocks are a nice touch. They had a complimentary wine hour for guests every day which was nice. We will definitely be staying here again in the future. read more

We stayed at many Kimpton properties and loved it. The over all aesthetics and furniture are modern and fresh. And the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. They're great! Unfortunate this Kimpton fell short of those expectations. The overall vibe and feel we're ruined by the construction and repairs on all the floors. It made the hotel feel industrial, crowded, and run downed. I was told there was water damage so they had to use fans probably to prevent mold and to dry it. But the fans were loud and created a lot of heat. Added to the fans were the fire alarms that was going off. Picture provided. The rooms themselves were nice but the furniture was beaten and worn. The carpet was tired and used. The bathtub should been retired. My daughter commented "the bath tub is dirty" from the stains and accumulated through the years. Plus there was ants. Big red ants. They were on the bed. On our food. My wife was bit a few times. Picture provided. The cherry on top was our food in the fridge going bad because it wasn't working or not plugged in. read more

Even with my Diamond Elite status and the fact they had available rooms they did not let us check in early. We arrived at 1:30 and still not allowed to check in early, was told we were put in the Queue. Not impressed, are treating us badly even though I have nearly 5,000,000 IHG points. Will definitely report to IHG. 4:09, did not get a text , as was told. Manager was an outright liar. However, bell guy was nice. With all the fees we end up paying about $180+ per night, that's with doing priceline pricebreaker deal. For that money I dont think it is really worth it. Room is very basic smth similar to what you would see in Super 8 motel, no coffee machine in the room, no microwave. They got really nice pool area in the back, with ping pong table and other games. There is also really cool tiki bar, but it is overpriced expect to pay $20 for small pina colada. read more

The hotel has a great location and nice pool area / landscaping. The staff seemed really friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was great in the onsite restaurant. However, the rooms are a little tired and particularly there was some body odor protruding from the pillows. Also, there are small very sharp nails protruding from the bed frame and when I got out of bed and my foot hit the frame I was cut really bad. This has never happened to me in a hotel and needs to be addressed immediately. read more

Pros: First of all the location is great, and close to everything! Lots of great restaurants outside which is nice. They also offer a wine social hour. Pool area is very nice. Room was overall clean. Cons: The rooms are very tiny and so is the bathroom, I would not advise more than two adults staying in one of these rooms. The bathrooms need to be renovated, the tubs are peeling they are so old and the mirrors in the bathroom were chipped. Plus the fan did not work in our bathroom. Also, there is a hotel right next to this one that literally blasts music from 7 am until - 8 pm. You can hear it allllll day in the room as the windows are not the best. Overall, this stay wasn't bad, but improvements could be made to make this place better. read more

I was fortunate enough to stay at the Surfcomber in the Oceanview Luxury Suite, and basically was prepared to move in and live there permanently, as a less endearing, Miami-based Eloise. Prior to checking in, I had the travel day from hell, which included being stranded at the gorgeous Newark airport for almost 7 hours due to inclement weather. After moving meetings around and being an overall ball of stress, I arrived at the Surfcomber (which disclaimer, I drove past on my first go-around, as there are a ton of hotels with narrow driveways on Collins Ave - this hotel has a semicircle driveway and is the second hotel on the right following 17th Street). From the minute I checked in/valet parked my car (FYI it is $46/night to valet), I was introduced to a typical Kimpton experience - an amazing staff. Nick at the front desk and the other lovely and super helpful ladies were wonderful and got me checked in quickly. Wine hour at this hotel is between 4-5 PM, and due to my late arrival, I missed out, so Nick was kind enough to send up a bottle of wine to my room, which was so necessary to help me relax (or just unwind at the end of the day, but the travel day made for a justified excuse to kill the bottle alone). This hotel sits RIGHT off of the beach. You can walk through the grounds and passed the gorgeous pool/cabanas/hotel bar, and you're right by the path that leads to the beach. Even if you're a slow walker, you can get to the beach in five minutes, promise (unless you meander, taking in the gorgeous property, because you really could just spend significant time taking it all in). The pool area is gorgeous, the bar area by the beach/pool had a ton of people there all evening, and everything just felt incredibly luxurious, but not pretentious. My room was also incredible, so I'd definitely recommend this suite if you can swing it - it had a separate living room from the bedroom, which was nice, especially when on a business trip, since I felt that I could get work done and also unwind in an area separate from where I'd sleep. All the decor is incredible, and my views of the pool/ocean were an added bonus. Despite it being South Beach, and on sunny, warm days, there was little to no outside noise after 8 PM (prior to that there was, but hello - people were in the pool, sooo it should be expected). This hotel is everything - it was my first visit, and I've already rebooked so that my husband will be able to join me and partake in the beauty that is the Surfcomber. Thank you for such an amazing experience - I cannot wait to be back! read more

I did a day pass to kill half day before flight home. The cabana is only $100 but you need to order $200 minimum foods (before tax, service chrg and automatically added gratuity). The cabana said it can fit 4 ppl but if all 4 were inside, not big enough. With 4 ppl, we were given only 2 towels. The cabana looks lovely and the server is pretty attentive. The only downside is that there is no actual shower or changing room afterward by the pool. While at the pool, the server came around with complimentary grape skewers for all. There was also a staff in the water teaching water exercises. The walk to the beach is about 3 mins, totally amazing. The valet parking at the hotel was nice, believe it was $35. read more

This honestly is the first review I have ever left for a hotel stay. I feel like I need to warn others. I stayed at the Surfcomber for 4 nights and if it weren't for the fact I had pre-paid for the entire stay, I wish I could have just left and stayed elsewhere, like the Loews. Where do I even start, this property needs a major renovation. The room smelled like mold, the gym was dated and the equipment is from the 1990s, the lobby and room furniture all have scuffs, dings, stains. The carpets were dirty, there was a construction next door to our room, the walls had stains... the entire property was run down and maybe comparable to a 2- star hotel- a total 3rd world experience. I feel like some La Quinta Inns must have cleaner and nicer finishes. The location is great and the staff was mostly pleasant though, they did openly complain about fellow guests which is super unprofessional, and they forgot about at least 2 room service requests. Stay elsewhere, unless you want the beach access and can find a room here for less than $100 on Hotwire, etc. read more

I really had high hopes for this hotel, considering it is a Kimpton hotel and I live in Los Angeles and so I am familiar with the hotels. However, this hotel was not at all what I thought it was. It is extremely old and the rooms are very very small. I was promised a quiet room with a decent view. When I checked into my room, it was not at all what I expected from the pictures online. Yes the location is ideal. It is located on South Beach close to everything and walking distance to restaurants and bars. This hotel is very old and to be honest it did not look very hygienic. Anyway, much to my discomfort. I ended up spending the night because I had no other choice and it was already 12 AM. The next day ,I was woken up at 7 AM with hammering and drilling, which seem to be right above my room. It just was not a good experience. I had originally planned to stay there for one week, but I had called Expedia and begged them to give me my money back and thank God they were able to work it out for me. I was able to get a refund for my reservation. I ended up going to the Hyatt centric down the street which was a little bit more expensive, but was also a newer hotel built in 2015. Super clean. Great location, only downside NO ROOM SERVICE! Bummer lol and the restaurant at the lobby doesn't open until 3pm. Good news restaurants on Collins and a Joe and the Juice downstairs. but oh my god what a difference it was. Anyway, not trying to hate in anyway but just a fair warning for anyone who likes clean and nice up-to-date hotels. The Surfcomber really really need to fix the hotel and update if. Good location but unfortunately that is all. Elevator was broken, restrooms are super small, sink would clog up, rooms are very small, they don't clean rooms till every three days. Because of elevator being broken you have to carry your luggage to the first floor then walk down the hall and take a different elevator. Won't be coming back here and wouldn't recommend, great location though. 06/24/2024, now both elevators are broken. Fire alarm went off approximately 4 times in the middle of the night. This place is outdated. They also gave me a 200 credit but stated they could not apply it to my credit card, another reason not to come and be frustrated at kimpton hotels. Every time I think about kimpton hotels I will think about this experience. 07/02/2024 had to call the manager in regards to the credit of 200 dollars they gave it to me and applied it to my credit card but only because I followed up. read more

I just stayed here for 4 nights this past weekend with a friend, and I've stayed in most of the big hotels on the beach such as Eden Roc, Fontainebleau, Loews, etc and I was expecting to not love this place because of that reason. However I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed my stay here. The service was unmatched, everyone was so helpful & friendly. The front desk, the bellmen, the pool bar staff, housekeeping etc I have to give an extra special shout-out & thank you to the valet guys because when they pulled my car up it had a completely flat tire and they totally took control of the situation and put on my spare tire for me without hesitation, and helped me figure out what tire I need and where to go and get it put on. I would have freaked out if it wasn't for them because I was leaving to make a 4.5 hour trip back to Tampa. Back to the hotel itself, the lobby is very comfortable with lots of seating. The restaurant there "the social club" has grab and go breakfast sandwiches in the morning which is nice. We also ate there for breakfast and it was very good & they have unlimited mimosas all day long on the weekend! *tip* check in for a free mimosa! We got a basic room with two queens, courtyard facing. I was nervous because I read some reviews about how loud the rooms are but I can tell you room 368 is so quiet, we never heard anyone or any noise ever. The only thing we heard is in the bathroom you can hear the tv from the next room but you can't hear it in the bedroom at all. The bathroom is very small but it works. They have a rain shower which is typically annoying to wash your hair as a girl, but this one was fine. The rooms are very clean however the only thing I hated in the room is the carpet because it's just so germy to me, and not having a balcony. They only have shutters, no drapes, however they do have a blackout shade which was very helpful for our sleep. The beds are unbelievably comfortable - one of the only hotels I haven't woken up with any pain. One of the best things about this hotel is obviously the location.. you can literally walk everywhere. Or take a short Uber. Also one thing I will say that I did not think is ok is the fact that they have large shampoo/body wash/conditioner/lotions that aren't fresh to every guest, they are just refilled. All it takes is one stupid young kid to put something in there or spit it in or whatever your imagination can think of and the poor guest next time has non hygienic toiletries. I personally brought my own stuff so it didn't effect me but if that would bother you, I would recommend bringing your own items to wash with. read more

TL;DR: Great value, great stay on SoBe without all the SoBe hullabaloo. First time at the Surfcomber - probably won't be my last. Preface: Stayed one night, mid-week, off holiday. No kids. YMMV. Valet: Good experience as soon as I pulled up. Valet Jacinto was very friendly and walked me through the process of their text-based valet system (very cool idea). Yes valet parking is a bit $$ ($46 on my stay) but in South Beach, one does not simply drive around aimlessly looking for a parking lot. Supply and demand, sure - I'll bite. Upon checkout, I texted to get my car back and it was waiting for me at the door. Perfect. Bell service: Andre was cordial and had the bags from the car into the room quickly (1st floor but it is up a few stairs so just wheeling bags over could have been a chore). Warm smiles and great energy. Front Desk: Katie was great! Check in was in quick but friendly and she explained all their little details. I've stayed at Kimpton before so I was a little hip to the game, but I'll take the happy hour lowdown anytime. Perks: Got there in time for their hosted wine hour (a bit early vs other Kimpton properties) from 4-5p but, hey - wine not?! Free bikes to use from sunup-sundown --(but who has time to bike around SoBe when there's happy hour?). Coffee service in the morning is a nice touch - grab and go! Flavor infused water is available in the lobby and at the pool area so stay hydrated! Spa: Menu looked reasonable (again, SoBe), but I did not partake as I got in quite late. Maybe next time. Happy hour: 5-7p, only select drinks on it but there should be something for every palate. The bartender made them expertly and I was pleased that they weren't watered down and had plenty of flavor. Pool: Nice pool area. Max depth 5ft but most of the pool is mid-4ft, so skip the diving Greg Louganis! Plenty of loungers around the perimeter and there's a platform behind the waterfall feature that gets primo sun access. Tan away! There is a sand area with plenty of couches, rockers, Adirondack-style chairs, and another bar (which seemed to be closed on mid-week but no bother). There is a ping pong table (no equipment out, though), and there was a cornhole game at one point - but it was put away by the time I returned from the beach. Beach area: The day was wrapping up by the time we got there. There was no one in the booth but we did find an attendant packing up some of the unused chairs/equipment. He showed us to two chairs and that was that. Could have used a bit more service in this area, but again, Room: King side bed was huge. Not a ton of useable room space other than the walkways. Nice corner chair and desk, plus an ottoman under the window. Bathroom was good size and the rainfall shower was nice after a long day. (Tip: check the "honor" bar when you get in - people have been known to use something and put it back to try to avoid detection - so don't get charged for something you didn't use). This should have been caught on room turnover but a quick stop at the desk ensured I'd avoid being charged. Bed was comfortable but there did seem to be some firmer-than-other spots - again YMMV. Pillows were nice. No "suitcase stand" so you'll need to use the ottoman or chair to post up your bag for the night. Property: Great decor. Lots of cool artwork, sculptures, and ambiance. PLENTY of seating everywhere, including rockers on the way out to the pool. Grounds look to be well-manicured. Staff were sparse out in the pool and beach area so not sure if it was mid-week or off hours. Resort fee could use a tone town on the mid-week days as it seems that particular value isn't there (again, YMMV). Overall: 4 stars for a great stay at a consistent property, but mid-week could use a bit more attention. read more

To start, when my husband and I arrived, the man at the valet station watched me remove our luggage from our Lyft with absolutely no effort or offer or effort to help. Then we arrive to our incredibly small room. It was extremely hot and humid, and the AC did not seem to be working. We waited til morning as we arrived late due to travel delays. Spoke to a staff member the next day, we were promised an engineer would fix our ac, upon returning from the beach our ac is still not working. We are told they will help. Nothing. The next day we ask again, they say again they will send and engineer. Again, nothing. It took three phone calls and us basically demanding a new room before any effort was made to move us to a room with working ac. And mind you this is south beach in July- it was HOT! When we finally do get offered a new room, 0 help was offered to move luggage upstairs. Also both rooms were Very small, and beat up. The bathrooms as VERY, VERY small with absolutely no counter or space for your things. The staff in the restaurant seemed to be annoyed every time we had to walk through the restaurant, however it was the only way to access the lobby from our room, and the only way to get to the elevator when returning to the hotel. The food is also incredibly over priced and mediocre at best. Our last night, we were made to leave the pool so the hotel could host a fashion show? The Incrediblely loud house music raged until 12 am and we had to get up at 4 to catch our flight home. When we called the desk to ask how long the loud music would go, they rudely told us midnight. We also had several instances of being woke up by very loud guests all through the hotel. The staff make absolutely no effort to accommodate any guest who is not here for a rager. Over all I would say if you want to come and party, party, party and sweat your entire face off. This place is for you. If you aren't a raging party animal. You should invest in a different location with more respect for the clientele. read more

Only giving two stars because the people who work here are nice. Not necessarily competent, but nice. We made it here after the storm, so they had dehumidifiers everywhere. I get that. I am not complaining about that. But they initially gave us a room with a big, noisy dehumidifier outside of the room. Why? I asked for another one. I got one on the first floor that reeked of cigarettes. We told the front desk (Natasha was really nice) and they sent a guy to spray some air freshener although she initially said "air purifier." Maybe it was a language barrier. I called from the room since I noticed that there was dust everywhere (see phone and outlets in the pics plus other places) on top of the cigarette smell (and furniture peeling - no signs of a remodel here, to be clear) and the front desk person (a different one) told me to review them on TripAdvisor if I am unhappy. Odd. But I will. And on Girls Love Travel to warn people. We asked again in the morning and we were told they were going to move us, but then the guy went to the back to ask somebody and came back saying they had no rooms. We went out and when we came back, the smell seemed even stronger. The window would not open, so I went and asked again. Ivana was nice and efficient and said she was going to move us to the other tower. The tower we are were in had major work done because of the storm. Well, she moved us right away, but in the same tower. I don't know what to say. Other than the yoga class with Mia, nothing really is pleasant. Also, the pool area is pretty dirty. Chairs and tables. The waitress or the person picking up stuff did not speak English and when we asked her to wipe the little table in between the lounge chairs, she switched it with the one next to us, which did not make any sense. It was still dirty. But, again, she seemed nice. Kimtpton, this hotel makes your brand look really bad (and I stayed at other Kimpton hotels before). If it's a management issue, fix it. Too bad I booked so many nights here. Just trying to have a nice birthday week. read more

I stayed at the Kimpton Surfcomber from a Sunday checking out on Tuesday. When we arrived on Sunday, there was a pool party going on that we were given wrist bands for. I would have liked to been able to relax at the pool but apparently this is a Sunday hotspot for a certain crowd and was far from the thing. The pool party went until 9:00 on Sunday night. I was so happy when the thing was over and I could actually relax and enjoy the hotel amenities (not expansive by any means). The cost for two nights for a shoebox room was $690 plus $65 a night for valet as they don't have parking plus another $114 for resort fees and taxes, etc. I will NEVER stay at this place again. Yes this hotel has beach access but nothing else. Too expensive for mediocrity... There are hotels on the other side of Collins that are way nicer, with way better service for half the cost. Not worth it for the beach access. There are plenty of public access points, you can't even see the beach from the hotel pool or bar anyway. read more

I visited here for the Sobewff 2019. I have not heard about this hotel but there are so many on Sobe so it's impossible to be aware of every single one. We did not know where to go to enter the festival so we took our chances and entered through the front entrance on Collins. Luckily, there were ladies welcoming guests and guiding everyone where to go. Sine this was my first time at the Kimpton and a Sobewff event, I was somewhat overwhelmed and tried to make a B Line for the back that leads to the pool. We saw people standing and waited behind them figuring it was the line to get in. The Art of Tiki event was held all along the perimeter of the backyard of the Kimpton. The pool was gorgeous and not small. My favorite aspect was there was a sandy area, grass, and concrete. There were a bunch of cabanas and restrooms. Unfortunately, the staff member who was cleaning the women's restroom lied to us that there was another bathroom nearby so he could clean replenish the bathroom. The other bathroom was for VIP only. Annoying and he did not care when we all came back. When it was time to leave, we left out the same way we came in. This time I took a minute to look around the lobby. It is actually gorgeous and very well put together. I think the space was a little small though. I would definitely consider the Kimpton for a stay cation! read more

We spent Christmas Day here, renting chairs, swimming, eating and some drinking. Super friendly beach attendants, awesome beach area and tasty food and drinks. The music and vibe is deep house trendy fun. Loved this unpretentious spot on the hip strip. read more
