Kimchi is a cute restaurant in the Commons! The food was very typical of many Korean restaurants here in Ithaca, nothing too special. I will say the restaurant's prices are cheaper comparably though. I got the hot casserole which was very tasty and shared it with one other person. (The dish can definitely serve 3 people because we had quite a bit leftover.) It also came with really yummy steamed egg and rice and side dishes. I enjoyed that the casserole came with broccoli and cauliflower instead of just the typical cabbage and kimchi. Personally, I feel like the restaurant is nothing terribly special compared to other Korean residents in the area but I would come again! read more

I've been to Kimchi twice this week. The first time, we ordered their jjajjangmyun, vegetable kimbap, and a whole fried chicken (no sauce). The second time, we got mul nengmyun, champong, steamed eggs, shumai, and a chicken kimbap (we were pretty hungry, but most importantly, we were so impressed with the first time we came that we had to test the menu a bit further). With that said, This place is the only Korean restaurant in Ithaca that makes most of its dishes properly, from scratch. I personally like the jjajjangmyun from Masita just as much, but you can tell the quality of ingredients (especially their noodles) is just higher here. The champong, mul nengmyun and kimbap are pretty much the same way. Sure, the meat of the chicken isn't mind-blowing quality. It's not like eating Gus's, for example. But they fry it very, very well. It's made to order so it's crispy, juicy, and hot as hell. So yeah, I highly recommend Kimchi. It's great food. read more

The ambience was casual and inviting, and the staff made us feel invited in. We ordered the Korean BBQ bulgogi B1 option which feeds two, and indeed it fed two. The service was amazing! The waiter was friendly and attentive, and the owner was very nice, too. The Korean BBQ came with a stone pot of steamed egg custard (delicious), a stone pot bowl of stew, two bowls of white rice, and 3 sides. The three sides (banchan) comprised of kimchi, fermented (I think) bean sprouts, and fish cake slices. The marinated bulgogi came in a big plate with lots of juicy marinade, as well as a plate of glass noodles. The waiter started the heat for the grill and we cooked away in front of us with the tongs that they'd provided. They also gave us a plate of washed lettuce leaves for the BBQ, and some garlic slices, jalapeño slices, and a sauce for the meat. We were so full by the end, but very very satisfied with our meal and the price. It was very reasonably priced and well worth every penny. You best believe we tipped the waiter GOOD! Kimchi is now my goto for Korean BBQ in the area. :) read more

Came here for lunch on a weekday. The food had such wonderful spices. If you go here and like slightly spicy food I recommend trying the Jjamppong (I think I got that right). I wish I could have taken the broth home but we finished it all. Only hitch was a some of the seafood was slightly over cooked (tough). A horrible takeout experience, truly lacking in both taste and experience; Kimchi really left a bitter taste in my mouth. The bad food was the least of the issues that night, even factoring in the particularly uninspired and bland udon. After waiting over 40 minutes for 3 dishes, the manager wrapped up our food and sent us on our way. Upon arriving home, we discovered we only had two of our three items. Wanting to give Kimchi the benefit of the doubt, we had assumed it was a simple mistake, but when we called in, the manager immediately launched into a questionable, clearly rehearsed rapid fire explanation as to what happened. She claims she had noticed that she had not packed our last item, but did not call in the 20 minutes after we left despite asking for a phone number when we ordered. There was also no apology on the phone or when we trekked back to retrieve our food. Overall, an irritating and rather suspect dining experience. read more

I was excited to have a Korean restaurant in Ithaca that didn't force me to go to Collegetown! My mom and I ordered several dishes for takeout: Beef kimbap, japchae, gyoza, and bulgogi. The KBBQ section of the menu was a little confusing, I wasn't sure if it was DIY KBBQ or if you could just order the bulgogi as is, and the employee on the phone kindly clarified that we could order as is. The kimbap tasted fresh and balanced, the gyoza were tasty as expected. The japchae and bulgogi were both quite large portions which we were happy about and the bulgogi came with egg custard (), rice, and soy bean stew (). The soy bean stew was not spicy at all which was disappointing for me but great for my mom who has a much lower spice tolerance for me. Overall I would definitely order from Kimchi again, the staff were very kind, they all wore masks when appropriate and the food was good! read more

This review is exclusively about their delivery and so I cannot comment on their waitstaff or the experience of being in the restaurant. I was away for a long period of time and was sad to see that Masita was no longer in business upon getting back to town, so I decided to order from here as it seemed at least somewhat popular online. Overall, my experience was very mixed and I am a little disappointed. I ordered the tteokbokki as a starter and the jajangmyeon as a main. The tteokbokki was spicy and flavorful, though the portion was much larger than I was expecting (which is fine by me). I could have just eaten that and nothing else and would have been happy. Unfortunately, the jajangmyeon was lacking. I found the sauce to be much blander than what it should be. Considering that it was the main thing I was looking forward to, my rating will have to stand somewhere between 3 and 4. I will give it another go in the future though as the tteokbokki was quite tasty and perhaps some of their other dishes are better. read more

I was excited to try out the new Korean restaurant on the Ithaca Common after attending their ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. I got the bibimbap for takeout. The veggies were fresh and beautiful. The sauce and kimchi were delicious. The complimentary miso soup was delicious and a nice addition. Simple, fresh, fast, and the owners are so friendly. For $12, I thought it was also a good deal...some of the other places downtown serving Asian fare charge $15, $16 or more for a lunch dish. The place is also very clean. Spicy Ramen was delicious as were all the appetizers we had including the rice and fish cakes, shumai, and the Korean chicken wings. We got level three spice and WOW! They were spicy!! We loved it. Bulgogi was not exactly what we were expecting, but still tasty and the sides were good. We went for lunch today at 1 pm on a weekday. We were the only customers at the time. It was our first visit and the server greeted us and seated us in a good location. The service was great. My wife had ojingo-pokum and I had vegetarian udon with tofu. My wife loves squid and has tried several restaurants in Ithaca, but she said it was the best squid dish she has had in a long time. And that is after a recent visit to Seoul. Their portion was generous, the squid was properly prepared, and the sauce used was perfect for the dish. The Udon broth was very good, the noodles good, and having lived in Korea and Japan I found the Udon to be comparable to any I have had before. The tofu was fresh and firm. Perfect for this type of dish. The side dishes were good, but the quality of the kimchi side dish was not great, so I would recommend they improve that. The ambiance was fine with good background music. The restaurant is located on the Commons and the interior decor was relaxed and casual. We will definitely go there again and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Korean food or would like to try it. I want to thank the server as he was very helpful and attentive. read more

I like the food here and service is great! They provide outdoor seating with about 3-4 tables outside I believe. Their kimchi jiggae hits the spot when the weather get chillier plus they put dduk (rice cake) in it which is just exactly how I like it. And the takoyaki is sooo delicious with the fluffy breading and chewy octopus. They come piping hot so don't pop a whole tako in your mouf! If I had one critique it would be that, it's not super authentic in a few aspects. They provide only 3 banchan which is not common for Korean restaurants but usually they're delicious! So whenever I go I finish them quickly . Also, one critique of the kimchi jiggae is that it's a tad bit sweet and I like mine hella salty. Overall I haven't tried anything on the menu that I didn't like. I'd say please try this restaurant out and support this new local business during these hard times! read more

I ordered the mul naengmyeon, doenjang jjigae, and tuna kimbap. The mul naengmyeon was definitely instant with the addition of fresh veggies, which is fair enough since the broth is not easy to make (and also probably not that popular of a dish). However, for the price I would have expected homemade. The doenjang jjigae was okay, but the vegetables were overcooked. The tuna kimbap was great! I would give that 5 stars itself. All in all I would try this place again. The owner seemed lovely and I'm sure some of the other dishes are great. The menu is huge, I think it would be better to focus on a handful of fresh home-made items. I would still recommend people to try it and I wish the restaurant success in the commons. read more

We are here visiting from out of town and went here based on reviews. We got the Korean chicken wings and they are overly breaded and overly covered in sauce, but it have a really good flavor. My husband got the udon noodles with chicken and I got the buckwheat noodles with chicken, both had little to no taste and need seasoning. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff, but not impressed. read more
