Didn't feel great about choosing to go here when there were two towels on the welcome mat - which stayed there throughout my visit. Makes me wonder about overall cleanliness. Manicure and pedicure were adequate for the price, not great. I'm from a big city and I pay less and get more (for example, paraffin on my heels with the basic pedicure). Also regarding the price, the sign said a basic manicure was $20+ and the pedicure was $35+. When I asked why I was charged $25 for the manicure, I was told it was for the polish, but I wasn't charged extra for the polish on my pedicure. This is arbitrary and makes no sense. this nail spa gave me a fungus on my toe they are very unsanitary and unprofessional. they treat african americans and if our money is not spend the same. they are not child friendly at all do not bring your child to get serviced. not to mention they don't do acrylic very welll or have many color options. find somewhere else there are several places in the area! read more

Pros: -extensive Essie and OPI color selection. -fans built into mani stations -nice ambience and clean -friendly staff Cons: -So...a dog gate covers the entrance. During my manicure I watched 5 people struggle to get in. Totally unnecessary. -Dirty towels cover the mani stations. And yes, that is where your hands go. -my tech didnt speak English. Asked twice for my French mani to be thicker and she made it thinner. Once she realized what I actually wanted, she rushed through the rest of the manicure. -sanitizer for the tools nowhere to be found...makes me wonder if they have them -no lotion during the manicure! I got a basic pedicure which includes a massage chair, complimentary water, coffee, or wine, nail and cuticle trimming, scrub, massage, hot towel, and polish. All for a good price. Kim's is the hot spot in Fed Hill for getting your nails done. The atmosphere in there is honestly one of the reasons I remain a loyal customer. There is guaranteed to be a great rom-com or tv show on with it loud enough for you to hear, but not too loud so that you can't talk with your friends. Also there is wine! The nail service itself is good (depending on who you get). I've probably been to fifty different nail salons in my life, and I've found that anywhere you go there are good nail techs and there are bad nail techs. For the most part, Kim's has really great people. There is the occasional bad experience, but I find 9/10 my nails look great and last for weeks. I've gotten gel, acrylic, and dip powder from Kim's. I think their best work is gel and acrylic. Their pedicures are great -- they last a long time and i've never been injured (I can't say the same for a lot of places). Got my nails done for the first time here about 4 weeks ago. My friends have been raveing about powder or dips, I'm a nurse, saying it is better than gel. I have been against gel for the longest time because it thins out my nails. I have had my dips on for almost a month and they have lasted and still look amazing. The nail technician was very knowledgeable, informing me that my nails need to be rounded more when filled. I like the extra information as well as attention to detail. They do serve wine and beverages with service. They are a little on the pricey side, but comparable to other salons in the city. However, their work is high quality. One thing to note, if you want to tip and are paying with card, you will need cash. They have an atm in the store, as well, but juSt bring cash if you want to tip. read more

Kim's is my favorite nail salon in the city. I consistently get a precise services and they are always able to help me in an emergency. Today, I had a two week old powder set that was otherwise pristine but after a spill I cracked a nail mid nail bed and split the nail through the width of my nail. This is by far the worst pedicure experience I've ever had. For starters, I'm sitting in the dryer and its been 14 minutes since I walked in the door, no exaggeration. There were people who were seated before me who are still getting their pedicures...and several others who are still getting manicures. I was welcomed by someone who grunted at me and then a second woman who asked me what I was here for. The second woman passed me back over the the grunting woman. Yippee! The TV is super loud which I could care less about but be prepared-- bring ear plugs. The overall look of the space is pretty, honestly it's got nicer furniture than most. Everyone else had wine offered to them as soon as they entered, I must be wearing a "no wine for me" look because I finally got up the nerve to ask for it and grunty-mcmean pants begrudgingly got up to retrieve a glass for me. When the high speed-pedicure was over the technician put my sandals on for me, she completely ruined two toe nails in the process and just dabbed some polish on them and then scolded me not to move for the second shoe...I didn't move the first time, but sure I'll sit still again. It looked like I'd painted my nails myself, actually, I'd probably have done a better job. I had a gift card and planned on charging the entire thing to cover tip as well(yes, annoying, but clearly I wasn't planning on coming back), but after I asked them to do this I was charged for the exact amount of my service and then another associate turned around and said we don't do tip on a card any way...perfectly fine, but where was my warning when I asked the first time? I asked for change from who I assume is the owner who took my twenty and brought me back my change, less $5, which she kept (my pedi was $25) and proceeded to say "I'll give her this, or did you want to give her more..." WHAT?! Overall came to relax and feel like I was pushed out the door as quickly as possible feeling more stressed and frustrated than I was when I walked in. I only go here! Kim's is the best around. Cindy or Ann are amazinf. ALways offered wine, any time of day! It's a little more but my gel nails and pedicure always look amazing, I always get compliments. Kim's dog barbie is precious, a little yorkie. She also always puts on a good movie or tv show. Kim's has possibly perfected the pedicure. Throw out the extra $10 for the deluxe and you get a paraffin foot treatment and an extra does of leg massaging. The manicures are great and they will do touch up on both, usually without cost. I've only had one massage here and it was ok. It was a little weak for my taste and I think I might have actually walked away with a strained shoulder. I'd be willing to give it a second go. The staff are wonderful and also entertaining. I recently moved to Fed Hill and my friend and I desperately needed pedis so we decided to try out Kim Day Spa. We arrived around 7 pm on a Friday night and were able to be taken right away without an appointment. However, one of the staff members said we just missed the huge rush, so it may be better to come later in the night to beat the after work rush if you can. We were also offered glasses of wine which were waiting for us by the pedi stations. They also had a large selection of OPI nail polish which was great. And the place itself was decorated very nicely -- it felt a bit more upscale than some of the other nail salons I have been to. We both got the basic pedicures which cost $25. The pedicure itself was probably the quickest I have ever gotten, but I don't feel that they skimped on any of the services. The staff were friendly, efficient, and did an overall great job. But rather than waiting awkwardly in a folding chair, flipping through a 5-year-old issue of Marie Claire as you might in similarly well priced establishments, the staff at Kim's will hand you a glass of wine. Then you can sit back in a massaging chair and watch Sex and the City 2-- or some equally horribly great movie. Ok, ok, I'll wait-- twist my arm... Good color selection, reasonable prices and friendly technicians...plus, they can usually take you at the last minute. I do insist, however, that if you're going to try out the waxing services, you specifically ask for Kim. Amazing experience! Although if was very crowed when we came in and a long wait we understood we just walked around the area grabbed some food then came back. Laan did my nails and Tammy did my friends nails , they took their time and the atmosphere was great. We got complimentary wine and Tammy was hilarious loved her! I chose this place because it was a) close to home, b) close to pizza and c) looked clean. I had read previous reviews about the wax double dip and dispite my better judgement... I went anyway. I went to get my eyebrows and lip waxed. When I walked in it took about 2 mins of my standing there before someone greeted me. Upon walking downstairs into the dimly lit wax area I was asked to make myself comfortable on the wax table. My eyebrows turned out okay but the reason for the 2 stars was that my lip broke out the next day. And continued to get worse for the following two days. Luckily a little peroxide and witch hazel is working to turn it down. But I am now stuck with a sickly looking top lip for new years. Note to self: heed the review warnings. I did not have a good experience at Kim's Day Spa. I went for a regular French manicure and left with my nails looking fine. However, within just a few hours, I noticed the clear portion of my polish flaking off even though I hadn't done anything since getting my nails done. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the polish that they had used because the same issue was occurring on all of my nails. The next morning, I tried calling the store as soon as they opened and told the employee on the phone that the nail polish was peeling and flaking off when nothing had even touched them. The manager came on the phone and immediately started yelling at me over the phone - saying that because I had not gotten a gel manicure, they weren't responsible if I had hit my hand and chipped the nails. When I tried to explain to her that I didn't hit anything, and that there was something wrong with the nail polish, she kept interrupting and yelling at me. When I tried to cut her off and explain the situation again, she just hung up the phone without saying anything. Will be going to a different nail salon in Fed next time! read more

So this isn't my first rodeo with Kim's Day Spa. The first time my fiancé and I went I didn't like the experience because I felt I was being treated differently because I wasn't a regular customer. As I visited more the better the treatment got. I stopped going to any salons for a while because I wanted to save so it's been a while. I am not from Baltimore I am from Chicago and it's a law is Chicago that a price list is posted. There is not a price list posted anywhere in the salon. So weekend before last my fiancé and I decided to go I got an overlay because my nails are thin and gel always peels because my nails are so flat it doesn't stay and the dipped set wasn't in my budget. We both got pedicures the regular one. He got a bottled water and I got a glass on wine. Last I was there an overlay was $25 and a pedicure was $25. When my fiancé went to pay she quoted him $90 I was lost because I just knew it should've been $75 but he paid before I could speak. So today I went and I ask for my previous overlay to be soaked off to avoid breakage instead my nail tech decided to pull the overlay off with a nail tip leaving the old crusted polish and using a drill to thin my already thin nails out. Then asked me to pay before he polished my nails and this week it was $5 more than the over priced overlay I got 2 weeks prior. I didn't get any oil on my dry hands or a hand massage like the lady next to me either. I love my nails but I'm looking for a new nail home. read more

Fellas there will be some vajay-jay talk so please be fore warned :-) My good friend and I decided to go and Brazilian bikini waxes. We were virgins :-p When we arrived, we were told to sit and wait for Kim. We were offered our choice of red or white wine (score).. They had me sold at this point. They had some girly flick playing on the televisions (another plus). It really was a very chill and cool atmosphere. Since Kim is the only one who does the Brazilians, we had to wait for her to finish with her previous client, but it wasn't very long, and again they make it very relaxing as you wait. When she was finished, we were wisked downstairs to the basement area . I won't go into all the nitty gritty details, but I'll say she was quick and efficient. Dani approved. I would rate the pain as about a 4-5 out of 10 but it was really very quick so not bad at all. Kim made it very comfortable (she's very laid back and funny). She boasted that she does all the jay jays in Baltimore. The price was very reasonable. In fact it was almost 1/2 the cost of another popular Maryland spa. I am sold and she will be the only one who I allow to maintenance my precious jay-jay going forward. Can't wait to go back! read more

I've wanted to love Kim's - I've gone multiple times, and gotten waxes, pedicures, and manicures (including gel). Pros: -Entertaining movies on the tv -Comfy chairs -If I drank I'd love the wine -Waxing area is pretty Cons: -Nail polish on my cuticles - they don't go over your fingers with a brush / nail polish remover (and I have shortish nails, so it's needed). It's not one of those "one or two spots", I literally went home and took nail polish remover to each of my fingers to get rid of the extra polish on them. When I got gel, the clear coat on top was all over my fingers. -Rush jobs - no lotion or massage for the "basic" pedicure or manicure. I'm pretty sure that they only take about 15 minutes for a pedicure -Waxing - every time I've gone it's been hard to get someone to remember / realize that I want a wax, even when I write it on the sheet. The first two times they rang me up and didn't even listen, but I persevered (and I really shouldn't have). Waxing- no touch-ups. I have several small "patches" of hair that were missed... better than the first time that I got a wax there, but still noticeable. And the reason that I'm officially grossed out / bothered - I got a UTI. I'm not prone to them, or get them often, but I got one, and it happened within 24 hours of getting my parts waxed. The minute that she didn't wash her hands... I should have said "thanks but no thanks." In addition, the same stick was used in the wax multiple times, and how afterwards a bunch of oil was rubbed on and no opportunity to wipe the excess off was presented... All in all, it's a cute little salon, but I'm going to have to suck it up and spend the extra money to go somewhere else... It's not worth it. read more

In short, I am 150% pleased with my Brazilian wax at Kim's. In long, here's why. First of all, they don't take appointments (at least for waxing). I love that because I'm crazy busy and it lets me be flexible. Second, it is very inexpensive. $45 for a complete Brazilian including butt strip is KILLER - and I'm from Miami, where getting Brazilians is as mainstream as clipping your toenails. (They also won't let you tip the first time you go, which I think is a nice business practice.) Third, Kim is HILARIOUS. She's always talking about vajayjays, which I don't mind, because why would I be there if I was not okay with having a woman all up in my vajayjay? Fourth - men, close your eyes for a second - they'll wax you while you're on your period. I avoid that anyway because it's just kind of weird, but if you have an emergency (I was about to leave for a beach vacation) it's good to know. And finally, Kim gave me a thorough education on hard wax vs. soft wax. Everybody likes hard wax because it hurts less, right? Well, Kim informed me that she only uses hard wax on her "pussy" (pun intended, I'm sure) customers. Soft wax is for people who want the REAL deal. It hurts more, but that's because it's ripping the hair out by the root rather than breaking it off just under the skin, which is what hard wax does. Fascinating, no? And since I am NOT a pussy customer, my pussy and I will continue coming here. Overall, Kim's is cheap, fast, clean (SUPER clean, and cute to boot), and just plain good. Screw you and your hard-to-find Groupons and baby soft hands, Bare on the Square - I'm Kim's! (One note - you can only tip in cash, not on your credit card. You can pay by card though.) ***UPDATE: Finally went to Kim's for a mani-pedi. Equally as lovely as the waxing experience, and we went at happy hour so there was FREE WINE!! Which, obvi, Kim encourages you to continue drinking throughout your stay. (She's trying to kill us.) The pedi is still on and I went about 4 weeks ago! read more

It was very loud as I walked in and I quickly realized that I was the only customer and the noise was coming from the 8+ employees sprawled out relaxing in the pedicure chairs. After being starred at, I finally said I was here for a pedicure and they simply pointed to the colors and continued to stare - never have I felt so uncomfortable as everyone was clearly upset I was busting up their 'no work' party. During the pedicure everyone continued to loudly carry on allowing no relaxation or peace. Worst. Pedicure. EVER. Yes, I got the basic, but that doesn't mean slap on the polish and make it look like a 5 year old did it. If I ask that my cuticles not be cut, that doesn't mean cut them anyways. If I ask for and show a specific design I would like, that also doesn't mean do whatever you would like to do. Pretty sure I was supposed to be relaxed during this pedicure, instead I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next fiasco to occur to my feet. Oh, and the dogs. Let me just say I'm pretty quiet and I love animals. Animals tend to like me, too. But the whole being barked at when I walk in and having my ankles nipped at - not cool. Comfy massage chairs: check; great color assortment: check; efficient, friendly nail techs: check; cute, fluffy dog running around: check; chick flicks on a loop: check; all you can drink wine: check. Someone may hate me for this BUT- I'm not trilled with their waxing services... After reading all the great waxing reviews this place had I used it as an emergency since my regular spot (Red Door Spas) was booked and I was leaving for vacation in two days... I called, asked if I needed an appointment, they told me to just come on down. I asked if they used hard wax, they said yes, and so I went for it... From the moment I walked it every employee stopped and stared to the point where I was wondering if my strapless maxi dress had me expose a little something inappropriate. I was asked repeated by I believe she was "Kim" herself (IDK) how I heard about the place, why I was there, and who referred me... Odd series of questions after I told her I looked it up online.. She didn't seem pleased with this answer and smirked/grunted and said "most women come here by referral," which made me wonder if I should have called my health insurance company first to confirm my appointment and be sure I was covered. Moving on - the actual waxing experience had to be the most painful and awkward 10 minutes of life. She did NOT use hard wax. I asked her about it, and she said something about that whatever the product was in her hand was the "special wax" she always uses.... Not wanting to argue and really wanting to get into a bikini, I shut up, prayed, sweated, and dealt with it. I'm not going to get into the highly awkward conversation, but "Kim" herself has quite a potty mouth on her in casual conversation and kept talking about the "vajayjay"....
