Cockroaches. When I sent a picture of a cockroach moving outside our front door Connie literally laughed in my face and said, "You're so cute. If you leave the door open you'll get cockroaches. It's Hawaii." On our way out, I had just walked past all the doors held open by the cleaning crews by door stoppers... use your imagination. Also, they had a flood recently and the place stunk of wetness - and cockroaches are attracted to mold. FYI - we've stayed elsewhere in Maui and nowhere else have we seen cockroaches. The place seems nice, but maybe they should take care of their bug problem and find new management. There are way better places to take your money.

This is such a lovely place, right on the beach! Honestly, I don't think you can find much better- it's a bit steep in price, but well worth it! If possible, request a room towards the back/lawn area. The option to sit on your balcony or patio with an ocean view is part of what makes this place so wonderful. As well as the beach access- pure, white sands & clear blue water on prime beachfront that is not at all overcrowded or tough. Each unit differs, because each is owned by separate parties who opt to have the management rent them out, kind of like a timeshare. So, you'll find each is decorated & accommodates differently. We know this because we were there for a wedding- majority of both sides of the family & friends stayed here, so we got to see what many different units had to offer. And they aren't lacking! You will find pretty much a full kitchen- all dishes, utensils, cookware included. Up to date appliances, and some even have a Keurig. Plenty of pillows, bath towels & beach towels are provided. It is definitely a step-up from a hotel! Upon checkout, you don't have to worry about much aside from placing soiled towels in laundry basket & taking the trash out. We did find most everything here very accommodating. There is also a laundry facility on each level, but you'll need change to operate. WiFi is decent. There is cable, if you are wanting to watch tv, but it isn't easy to use. The walls are a little thin, so you can definitely hear neighbors sometimes, but not too bad. Outback, you'll find a variety of beach/pool toys to utilize that are community, first come first serve. But, plentiful & awesome variety! The pool is decent & well maintained. But having the beach right out back is what it is all about! There is also 2 foot rinse & shower stations right as you walk up from the sand back onto the property, and the grass is very plush with plenty of lounge chairs to lay back & enjoy the beautiful climate & views. We also enjoyed having the bbq & community patio area where we joined together for dinners many evenings. Coffee & tea is also served to the community on the back patio each morning. We were also surprised to see they will place a list of community events for each day you may be interested, outside your door for the week. We definitely had fun with the hula lessons on the back lawn! I am now personally friends w/ that gentleman on FB, because management couldn't be bothered to pay or tip him, so we did! ...and asked him to come back to DJ the wedding reception. The downfalls: the parking lot is small & poorly designed. Nearly everyone had a hassle & found it more of a pain than ease. You'll also notice some of the staff vehicles take up handicap & multiple spaces when they aren't even present. And that leads to the next complaint: management is lacking. Office hours are weird, and no one is ever there. I did not book my unit- a family member did. So I found myself a bit lost & unfamiliar with everything. As a smoker, I am SO respectful & would never intentionally be in an area where it would potentially bother others. Yet, the ONE time I saw the manager, she decided it would be a good idea to blatantly YELL at me & scorn me like a child instead of politely direct me to where the designated area is: next to the dumpster on the side of the road. For majority of us who had that rude encounter, we now call it "time out". Another note on the manager: she was extremely rude to my sister who booked nearly the entire place to get married. Gave her a hard time about things she personally paid for that had nothing to do with the complex, and scorned her for inviting the hula instructor for entertainment at the event. We don't understand what the issue was, but it really left a sour taste. Especially since the lady agreed to alert other residents there would be a brief ceremony out back. She made my sister feel guilty & scorned, is what it came down to. So, I would recommend staying here, for sure. It really was a great experience & one of the most comfortable & beautiful places you could wish! But, PLEASE do something about the less than kind lady who "manages". She about ruined it for many of us, and I know my family is not thrilled with how they were treated by her after forking out thousands & booking nearly the entire place for 10 days. Thankfully, the pro's outweigh the cons in this case.

Girls are loving the nice quiet beach!

We loved the 3 bedroom unit B15. Traveling with our two small girls, grandmas, and sister was very comfortable and the kitchen was essential. Used the grill on the patio numerous times as well. Really enjoyed the adjacent beachfront, the amazing uncrowded beach, porch with beach view, onsite laundry, A/C, Meowi (the cat!), pool, boogie boards, patio, and the amazing sunsets. The managers are just fantastic as well, very friendly and even paid for the laundry a couple times as we relaxed on the beach! Great place!

    So relaxing

This review is for unit A6 that is owned by Elen Stoops. She is very nice and easy to talk to, accommodates our needs and had a lot of great recommendations in the area. Stayed in her condo for 3 nights and 4 days and it was just the best! Everything inside the unit was beautiful, very clean and fully stocked with pretty much everything you'd need on a daily basis. My boyfriend and i felt so at home and comfortable. Love how you it's very airy throughout the house with windows and sliding door open. I already miss hearing the trees and beach waves night and day. The pool is right in front of the ocean and the best view you can hope for. So lucky to have found this spot to end our last few nights in the island.

What started out as a crazy hectic day of me flying out with 2 toddlers & an infant, no car, was pretty brain wrecking but I kept my cool and did what I had to do. Hauling around 2 toddlers, my 5 month old, his car seat and stroller. Diaper bag, my purse, & 2 duffle bags I managed to get to this condo. 11:45. I thought I was able to drop off my luggage and dig, but I was to abide by the 2pm check in rule. My brain went hay wired. Nice enough, the guest here brought out glasses of water and snacks for my kids. They also offered to watch my things while I take my kids out to the beach. My day was getting pretty good considering it was 1:35 & I didn't have to hear the constant nagging of 'when can we check in, mom?! Is it almost 2? I want to lie down. Just a little bit more time? How much longer ?' Before I knew it the two owners of the condos brought out my package & keys to the beach !! I've never felt more welcomed ! They also helped me with my luggage and the kids to our condo. Condo was beautiful ! I rented a 3 bedroom 2 bath & it was awesome ! AC, fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms were stocked, extra extra pillows in bedrooms, & towels placed artistically on every bed. The hospitality here was nothing short of amazing & the condos .... The best. I would recommend this place to anybody. One thing I wouldn't recommend is flying out hours early before your check in.

Would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!…read more Here's why. Stayed at the Koa Resort, unit 4G, 3bedroom, 2 bath condo costing ~$721/night for 7 days. The facilities are generally nice and well kept, the location is good for exploring Maui. Our unit though had its problems. The central AC was on the fritz and was in repair transition when we arrived, no notice. Each bedroom had a portable AC unit in it that took up room and was noisy. The resort staff wanted us to let workmen into the condo to do final repairs during our stay. Some of us were quite tired from fatigue from running a marathon the previous day and erratic sleep because of our second big problem. There was a rat in the condo! First signs were evidence of fruit on the counters being chewed and rat turds. Two of our group had seen the rat scurry by out of the corner of their eye, and one had felt it climb over them in the night. We called the resort staff and they sent over a guy who brought over 3 bait traps, 2 for mice (?) and one rat sized. We thought the rat was home basing in one of the owner's closets. So, put the rat trap in that closet and stuffed a towel under the door to trap him inside, if indeed it was in there. We packed most of our food in the refer and cabinets, but unfortunately an avocado was left out one night and was chewed on. Great! In the night, my son heard it digging out the carpet so it could get under his door and into his room. Then felt it crawl over him to get to the window. He waited patiently and actually got a photo of it. Yep, a good size rat. We asked for spring traps and we bought some peanut butter for bait. Mind you the staff never called to see if the bait traps had worked, no follow up. How common is this? Once we had the spring traps, 2 mouse sized and 1 rat sized. Why the mouse traps? We know what a rat is. Baited the rat trap in the afternoon with peanut butter and set it by the stove. Five of us were milling around the condo but not in the kitchen when 10 minutes after setting it, we heard the trap snap. We looked and there the little darling was in the trap, broad daylight. We got it! Should I send them an invoice for de-ratting their condo? We did not get any compensation by the resort for the rat or AC problems, though I did ask for a 10% discount. No such luck. Me thinks this is a common problem there. So, would I recommend the Koa Resort on Maui? Nope!

Condo # 206- Horrible Shame on the Owner and Maui Property management group !…read moreReview of Menehune Shores Resort Reviewed yesterday Absolutely would not recommend staying here! The photos of this rental did not represent the actual space! Over priced, out dated and unclean! Living room : Had to wash comforter from the second bedroom ( we didn't plan on using ) to cover the very worn sofa, just to relax! One of the two sitting chairs had ice cream or candy stains on the seat ! Kitchen: Was over stocked with unusable cookware- warped frying pans and no baking dishes! Sand flys invaded the counter probably due to the garbage disposal over due for service and the many cockroach traps screamed unwelcome guests would at some point appear! Washrooms : The bathtub was filty dirty and stained, I wouldn't wash my dog in it ! The cabinets were all worn and partial board, totally disgusting!I had to wash the standup shower, sinks and floors before even using! Not to mention the ratty worn out towels that were left to use were awful! Not a hand soap bar to be seen! Only 3 same sample bottle of shampoo, conditioner and body wash was complimentary! The Lanai.. Table and chair set was wobbly, totally garage ! And the not so cute birds that made a nest in the exterior light ( that did NOT work) which my husband had to remove because the property management group did nothing about that after contacting them! We did want to use the lanai to enjoy the beautiful sunsets due to bird poop being present ! so unsanitary! We were expecting a small refund but never did receive a dollar! Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere! So disappointing being our first trip to Maui on our 10th year Anniversary to have it tarnished by money hungry over represented property owners with matching management group! Shame on you all ! We booked through VRBO and stayed 5 nights in unit 311 which has a great ocean view and the sunsets from the lanai are like no other. You might even see some honu (sea turtles) poke their heads up or flick a flipper just beyond the rocks. Most mornings, the local canoe clubs head out early and make a stop in this cove for their morning rituals. Like many condo buildings in Kihei, it is dated, but with good upkeep and maintenance. There are many pluses and some minuses, but again the view is the best. + Location: 20 min drive from Kahului airport and steps from the ocean. + Free parking: If there isn't a hang tag pass in your unit, request one at the lobby office that's open 9am-2pm. + Beach: Family friendly and easily accessible. Most of the lagoon is knee deep and you can wade up to waist deep all the way out to the rock sea wall. If you want waves, go past the rock wall to the other side of the beach. The sun peeks over the building mid-morning. + Pool: Very clean and well maintained. Saw the pool guy every morning skimming debris. 3-6 ft deep. Shower before swimming, Use the pool code to enter and exit. Open 8:30am-8:30pm + BBQ Grills: 3 gas grills by the entrance to the beach for residents use with 2 picnic tables. Saw the staff cleaning them every morning. Look in your unit's kitchen for BBQ tools. + Rooftop access: Another 4 gas grills up top with plenty of tables. Great for stargazing on clear nights. Open 7:30am- 9pm. + Monsoon Bar & Grill: Indian Restaurant right downstairs in the lobby with ocean views. Get the Mango Lassi, Garlic Naan, Samosas and Chicken Tandoori + Sunsets: Awesome Unit #311 + Keyless entry. Just remember your code. + Retrofit split AC unit, but only in the living room. Ceiling fans in LR & BR. + Spectrum Cable TV and WiFi. Password is on the TV. + Samsung 40" Smart HDTV in living room with Netflix login. Wall mounted 32" RCA TV in bedroom, but only has Roku you have to log in your own service. + Full Kitchen w/ microwave, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, electric stove, drip coffee maker & pop-up toaster + Clothes Washer & Dryer + Lanai with ocean view. Great to have breakfast and to watch the sunset in the afternoon - Dated furnishings - Shag carpeting from the 80's I haven't seen since college - Needs some new kitchen utensils - Beach chairs, umbrella & boogie boards have seen better days, but are free to use - AC compressor is out in the lanai, so blows hot air when on if you're sitting outside

The carpet needs a full shampoo as do all the furniture seat cushions. Both sides. All chairs. The oven doesn't work but the burners do, they just don't sit flat but do smoke when turned on. I needed to bake a dinner , so big problem. So begins the problem. That alone is a deal breaker. Photo for bedroom not current. Bed rearranged to lean against on wall for support. The bedroom is now set up so you can only get in on one side. One corner leg is broken off the frame. The bedroom tv now faces the formica sink with the big cigarette burn. So not usable to watch. The cubboards and closets are full of old left behind gear, umbrellas, toys and water bottles. The other closet door is on a slide and stuck. Full of extra wall pictures , a fan, a Lamp and a ladder. The very dated bamboo tables under glass tops look like they never have been wiped down. So a layer of dirt on your finger is the test. Only One smoke alarm and no posted taxation certificate so it may not have a STR certificate at all. The answer, move. After a couple phone calls and texts we agreed to pay for the first night. We had no choice. So a 210.00 night with fees for accidental damage , cleaning, air bnb fee, taxes to county, it turned into a 750.00 one night stay. That charge is for a perfect apartment and 1/2 the kitchen was unusable and the refrigerator ran all night. So, very far from what was charged. An Expensive lesson but no way to know till you arrive. My other nine days were refunded with an apology. Because they had no alternate stay to offer and the condition and unusable oven. We Booked another $4K stay in Kihei and asked for a refund for this joint. I let the after 5 pm night operator know an hour after i opened the door. This has never happened in many years of travel. We Moved this morning after showers. We are now in a proper lodging , still in Kihei across from the beach with an ocean view. The way it should be! Review # 2200 Maui, Hawaii

The issue was not corrected, nobody showed up, texted or called. They claim there was no issues instead of apologizing they say they have nothing to apologize for. I have screen shots of the calls and concerns and I experienced a significant insect infestation in the room that affected my sleep and comfort on the last day and the ac wasn't even working. Their dirty sofa had something that bit me 20 minutes after I sat down. They replaced my room after I had a panic attack....The replacement room was clearly in MUCH better condition, which confirms the original room had issues. The guy STEVE said that clearly I was the one with the issues for not calling them all week since... he REFUSED to help. I was able to put my screen door up but I told them it was still broken. I would leave daily to enjoy the island sometimes out for over 10 hours so by the time I came back their office had closed. The maintenance guy told me they all knew about the stench and odors in the room and the wetness that attracted the insects but they still put me in there. I think it's a racial thing because I saw the other guests and they clearly had better rooms!! I would leave ZERO stars if I could because they refuse to apologize and take accountability. This is beyond disgusting and my friend found MOLD actual mold in his pillows where he is staying he has a baby and he also got bug bites. DISGUSTING and unprofessional they ruined my vacation. I am going to make a big deal now because they REFUSED ANY ACCOUNTABILITY not even a breakfast in the house. They ruined our last moment in Maui. Horrible customer service horrible experience to say the least!!!! AWFUL!!!! I spent 3 HOURS cleaning and spent a lot of money to buy supplies he didn't reimburse and I also told him the floors were so dusty my feet turned black. Screen door never was fixed and the bugs came in and I think sofa had bed bugs because I was bit right when I sat down. DISGUSTING!!!! There's also roaches! I stayed in A306... my friend stayed in 511 his pillow had mold we have photos. The room smelled so horrible I had to call health department because it smells like dead carcass. The maintenance guy sprayed the entire room with bug spray and my aunt got intoxicated nauseated and dizzy. It's not until I called health department that they actually apologized but by then the damage has been done. Again, the other reviews are probably fake I am a real person and this is an actual factual review.

But what put everything over the top is their care and compassion about my Mom when she became ill and our safety during Hurricane Lane. A team came over to help us secure the condo to protect us and the property for the potentially dangerous wind and rain. I had expressed how the flash light batteries were dead and with in 2 hours Peter came by with a working flash light. We had to check out the day the hurricane was supposed to hit and we were concerned we would not be able to fly out due to cancellations of flights. TO make things even more difficult, my 76 year old mother had become very ill and we didn't want to keep her at the airport for hours waiting for a flight. I contacted Viktoria and she promptly returned my call and shared concern for my Mom's well being. Viktoria found another unit for us to stay in until we were able to fly home so that my mom was able to rest comfortably. We were unable to stay in our original unit as another guest had made reservations the day we checked out. The second unit, Kihei Akahi, was also beautiful and was extremely comfortable. Paige and Samantha were constantly checking in on us and making sure everything was ok. I also wanted to mention the regular emails I received updating us on the hurricane situation and what to do, what to take and where to go just in case we were evacuated. Fortunately we were able to get our flight out before any cancellations. We may have only stayed in the other condo for 7 hours, but my mom was able to rest comfortable before taking that long flight home. I just want to say very much Mahalo to the entire team at Sunny Maui Vacations. You all are truly wonderful people who go above and beyond for your guests. Aloha and Mahalo

We returned in July 2026. Things are back to being a mixed bag…read more. The interior of our unit, and apparently most of them, have been remodeled to some extent. Yay! Apparently they got rid of the carpet everywhere except the bedrooms. We had a studio unit this time so we had no carpeting. That was wonderful. (The carpets used to be gross. There's no other word for it-- and I know keeping them clean is challenging in a tropical environment) they do provide a floor sweeper on rollers, but we did not find that to be very effective. A broom would have been more effective and definitely quieter. In the unit of us, the people decided to use the sweeper at about 6:30 AM and it was very loud. We found it doesn't pick up the fine sand that blows in very well. There are still a few weird quirks. We have an outlet that didn't work at all (unfortunately right next to the bed) a light switch in the kitchen, which appeared to be possessed, and plumbing fixtures, which were pretty low budget--loose, leaked, etc. But all in all, things worked pretty well. There was a chemical smell in our room which persisted for the first week of our stay. Perhaps a pesticide treatment? We tried to keep it aired out as much as we could. The air conditioning units have been replaced! At least in the building were in. Hallelujah! Quiet and effective! The grounds were in great shape. The pool was well kept and clean. They were quite a few kids, but everybody seemed to obey the rules, which was great. The flies at the pool. Yep. Still a problem. Unusually aggressive flies, and if you sit in the sun right after you get out of the water, you could have 100 of them trying to land on you. Not an exaggeration! I'm not sure where they're coming from. We have friends staying about a block from here and we don't have that issue at their pool. I'm mystified-- since this was our experience last time as well. And we never have them when we sit out on the balcony, even if we are eating dinner! Here is where we have the biggest gripe: the "owner update." It was so upsetting this time that I just don't know if we can stay here again. Worldmark, like many other timeshares, is not doing well financially. We were told that this would translate into our heirs being responsible for an ever increasing (15%/yr) maintenance fee, even if they did not inherit our shares. Of course *if* we bought more for $42,000 and convert our shares into the "new kind" we could prevent this. We immediately contacted an attorney who assured us this was not the case. But the whole thing just left a bad taste in our mouth. There is always an angle. They will always tell you that what you bought last time is no longer good anymore and you absolutely need to buy more. NEVER AGAIN. This is the first time we ever stayed in the studio. We think we prefer the one bedroom but, we realize this was our choice. I'll give you some information here in case you're trying to make the same choice. As stated previously, the studio has no carpeting. That's wonderful. It's quite spacious. The bed is a Murphy bed, which is the type that pulls down from the wall. That's kind of a mixed bag. There's no headboard so your pillows can drop behind it if you're not careful. You also can't really sit up in bed and lean against the headboard or wall because there's a big gap. I'm not really a fan of a Murphy bed, but it was comfortable. We also like the fact that the bed was in the back of the unit. In the one bedroom, it's towards the front of the unit, so you hear all the noise from the hallways, etc. We didn't have to deal with any of that. The kitchen was about the same size as the one bedroom as was the bathroom. The couch was more of just a loveseat for two people, but that was fine for us. So overall a little bit less living space but perfectly fine for two people. You wouldn't want to entertain guests or anything. The units are not quiet. If you have anybody above you, you will hear every step they take, and if there are children that can be a lot of steps and a lot of noise. If something falls on the floor, it will sound like it is right next to you. But I think most of us know that. I mean, this is definitely a family place, not a place for quiet. My suggestion would be to ask for an upper unit if this is a concern. Man, we love Maui and we love this area. We love the people that work at Worldmark. This place is not perfect, but they are clearly working on it. The entire owner update scenario is horrendous and I'm wondering how many people leave for a very bad taste in their mouth. It's so much worse here than anywhere else. I just wish some of these issues could be addressed.

Our unit only had an AC in the living room and just fans for the bedroom and a couple small nightstand cooling fans. We opted to stay in the living room with the pullout bed, which was nice and Chris with the AC as the bedroom was a little bit too warm for our liking. Can't complain the day was awesome. We had designated parking and there was a designated pool that we could use if we wanted to and lots of space to walk around on the grass. Couldn't really ask for more and would probably stay here again. The next time we go to Maui. Our unit did have a messed up dryer so we couldn't dry our clothes using it and had to hang them all and also quite a bit of ants but nothing too concerning overall.

There was sand and hair in the shower, which was not wheelchair or walker accessible. After a 5.5 hr flight, we didn't want to be displaced due to a complaint so I cleaned to the best of my ability. There was no place to hang clothing. When we did notify Vacasa, they said they would give me back the $270 cleaning fee I paid. Vacasa misrepresents the properties, and in my opinion, this was a health risk and consumer fraud case. I will report and provide photos. Bedroom closets were stuffed with miscellaneous items, vacuum, boxes, no room to hang clothing.
