I hosted my wife's birthday here. I can not stress enough how great the staff is from the front office to the tail end everyone was so welcoming m, helpful, friendly and just cool. I called at the last minute for a group of 20 and they got us in with no problem. Then we were 40 min late, again no problem. They held the cake, then brought it out and helped sing HBD then they offered to cut the cake. I can't say enough things about the facility, the staff, ambiance etc. the DJ is really good too. Def with out a doubt highly recommend kick axe. A very cool part about this place is that after your done throwing the axe you can lounge indoor or outdoors and have a drink while playing games like jenga. So you can make a night out of it. Every so often my HS track team arranges an "outing" and it just so happens the one who suggested this place has been living upstate for YEARS... he basically wanted practice with an axe as winter was slowly approaching. We made a reservation for 8 people and upon arrival I was in awe. This place really gave axes to people, provided guidance on throwing, gave ample warnings about potential dangers, but also turned out to be an experience id gladly relive a couple times more. The staff is well informed and VERY attentive so please follow their guidance. The place gives a cabin like feel and the entire layout is intended to keep people comfortable while having fun, wise choice in my book. There are so many puns one could make when reviewing this place, so I will spare the reader and not make any - but this place was the BOMB DIGGITY. Walking into Kick Axe, my coworker and I didn't know what to expect. We were having a work team-bonding outing here, and did not realise the danger (and exhilaration) of throwing sharp metal at a wooden target. First and foremost - the aesthetic - they were going for a hipster take on a dark wooden cabin feel, with cages that reminded me of golf driving/baseball ranges. Almost all of the staff were lanky males except a woman here or there. They all seemed to be quirky and loved what they were doing. I can't remember the name of our guide/leader, but he had a blonde pontytail and an easy-going attitude. He provided expert scaffolding for us to "perfect" our technique, and I was happy that he set guidelines for us to feel safe. $35 got us axe-throwing for an hour and fifteen minutes in this hamster-cage smelling place, and while our group wristbands only got us unlimited soft drinks, a lot of us opted for paying our own alcohol. What could go wrong, right? Unbeknownst to me, this was such a seminal experience and I can't wait to come back on a date. KickAxe has a place in my heart! read more

I LOVE axe throwing. The first time I went was for a Yelp Elite event, and I've been hooked since. I planned a birthday get together with a group of 10 people on a Friday night and decided to try out axe throwing in Brooklyn since most of my friends are in the city. I usually go to a place in NJ for 2 hours with a Groupon and it's around $30 or so a person. I checked online and it's $35+tax here for 75 minutes lane time, and to reserve your own lane, you need 8 people at least. I didn't think an hour would be enough for all of us, but our axe master (possibly named Ben??) was great at moving us along. Each person got to throw 3 times each, and moved on to the next person. He was helpful throughout our time and we played a couple different games. We obviously got really competitive and Ben played a role in pinning us against each other to make it more interesting. Since we went through fairly quickly, an hour was probably a good amount of time. I definitely wanted to throw for longer, but some of the people in my group were getting tired already, so 75 minutes was enough. There's also a bar there and a cute area for you to take some photos with props. Overall, a fantastic time and would definitely come back again. read more

Super fun spot and great covid-safe group activity. I went with 7 of my friends as a birthday celebration and we all had a great time. I would recommend booking a slot online because It seems a little busy in terms of accepting walk-ins. You sign a waver and they assign an instructor to teach you how to throw. Staff is super friendly and if it's your birthday you get a free bottle of Prosecco! You can only eat and drink outside and they just have canned bottles of beer/wine + pizza so I would plan food separately but this was definitely a fun activity! read more

The venue used to be a performance space called Littlefield a couple years ago, and I love what Kick Axe Throwing has done with it in terms of décor! Very warm, rustic interior. Perfect for a wintertime date. You must purchase a reservation in advance, and once you're there an "Axepert" will go through the safety policies and teach you the appropriate axe-throwing techniques. Afterwards, your group will be split into two for some fun games. For amount of time spent, you definitely get your money's worth. Plenty of craft beers available, and a comfy lounge with board/card games to play if you still want to hang out afterwards. I'd never heard about this until my husband came home from his trip to NYC and told me about this place that someone took him out to. Great place to hang out with friends or big parties! There were only 4 of us, so we got 2 other people joining our group. First we signed the waiver and ordered our drinks then the instructor came to collect us and took us to the the area. I've got to say, our instructor was SO hilarious while half the time being super serious while giving us instructions and tips. We were divided into 2 teams and I did pretty well a couple of times. We had a lot of laughs and giggles. I didn't drink much because I was really worried I could have hurt myself, but it was really safe! I would definitely do it again if I'm in the area. I mean, when you're in Brooklyn, don't miss out on the Axe Throwing shenanigan! This place is not too far from the subways. It's in the walking distance. We came on a Monday afternoon and most of the lanes were empty besides one other. Each session lasts 1h 15 min. Each lane is actually two boards so two people can throw at once. Our group of 12 reserved 2 lanes, which was a good pace. Each person gets 3 throws before rotating. Everything was a ton of fun! They teach you how to throw the axes and give you pointers on what to adjust for higher success. They have several games to play to make it more competitive and interesting. They even allow one handed throwing, which I personally found to be more difficult. Tip: They say check-in 20-30 mins early, but you don't actually need to arrive early cause they won't let you start you until your time starts. They just want to make sure you have enough time to sign in on all the tablets. Tip: Axe guiders work for tips. read more

Came to Kick Axe on a Friday night and had such a fun time! Roland was our axpert - he made sure we didn't chop off our own arm and was incredibly patient while giving some excellent tips. I made sure I booked a few weeks in advance since I knew my group wanted our own lane. It came out to $35 per person for 75 minutes. From check in to the end of your session it was seamless. You have to arrive early to sign some waivers. They don't accept cash so make sure you have a credit card. There is a bar located in the front waiting room along with some games and if you want a drink while you're on the range, there are waiters that come by to take orders. We used Kick Axe Throwing for our employee appreciation day. It was a great team building event. We had 21 people and were split between two lanes. Our host, Leivi, was super nice and could easily manage us. He organized a friendly competition between the two lanes and helped each person feel confident about throwing the axe. It was also extremely easy to book the event. Janet was great and provided clear information/communication/costs/etc. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Been seeing a few ax throwing bars open up recently and got to experience it for myself a couple nights ago. My group and I had a fun time on a Thursday night throwing axes here. We had a reservation, but got there a little earlier than our time slot and signed our waivers, ordered drinks (a decent selection), watched other teams throw to get a sense of what was in store, and played a few games of Jenga. Our 75-minute time slot was supposed to start at 8:30pm, but we actually started around 5 minutes late because they were still getting the range ready. (Since we were only a group of four, our group combined with three other couples for a total of 10 people.) The instructor led all of us to the range and demonstrated the proper way to throw and other rules, e.g. you can't bring any drinks into the range. After she finished explaining everything, we did a practice round. I was a little surprised by how heavy the ax was! That definitely made throwing harder than expected, especially if you're weak like me. After the practice round ended, the instructor split us up into two teams and we competed in three games: first to 50 points, first to exactly 21 points, and Around the World. After, the instructor taught us single hand throws and then we had a lightning round to get in some extra throws before the time slot is over. About half of our group of 10 got at least one bullseye. Sadly, I was not one of them. The instructor was great in providing helpful tips for improving your throws and was very encouraging throughout the night. Definitely a cool and unique experience in Brooklyn. They don't sell food, only drinks, so plan to eat before/after. There is a great taco place next door where we got dinner beforehand. read more

This Brooklyn Kick Axe location is training hipsters and Brooklyners to the ways of the axe. With proficiency, you should become a lean mean throwing machine, the axe will become to you as a pencil is a to John Wick. We had a team of two groups, our birthday party and a visiting family from Chicago. The throwing games as they were called was a head to head, group to group throw down of epic proportions. Also, a waitress and additional guests came along to the party offering treats for the birthday girl. Our axpert was decent at dodging the windup for the axes, but I felt like it's definitely a dangerous position to be in. For that, we tipped him for his service, but also for future medical bills that may be pending. They should probably wear more safety gear. It's like the hockey mask for hockey, you don't want to learn from a big mistake. Being a Saturday, the bar area gets really crowded at Kick Axe, but the beer and wine selection is decent. They won't allow you to throw with one or more beers in hand. I would really recommend open bring your own axe nights to the Kick Axe team with screenings - pair them, mental, equipment, handling. The axes we were provided were falling apart at the ends and when you pay for use of the range, the expectation is that the equipment is in tip top shape. Currently there are chopping axes on sale at the Wal't retail store for $7, so for the price of 1 person participating in throwing, they could buy several new axes. Food for thought. More fun than I expected. Also harder than I expected. They have a mini bar in the front with some beer (no liquor) and snacks - kinda like trail mixes makes you think you're really in the woods. Anyway - you do need a 3 to 4 week in advance reservation. It's crowded, loud, but in a good way. We got a lane and a guy who gave us practice throws and we did 3 or 4 fun games with our group split up into 2 teams. You have the lane for an hr n half, which was just the right amount of time. They allow you to take pics after you're done. After people seeing my pictures I got many questions about where this place was and inquiring about it. Def will be going back. And ladies! - don't wear open toe shoes - they won't allow you to throw. read more

Don't know about the other instructors but everyone there seemed to be having a good time. What a fun experience, I'd come back here all the time if I could. Had an amazing time! My friends surprised me with Kick Axe as a belated birthday present. An instructor goes over how to hold the axe and throw/step and various games you can play so you're not standing there trying to figure all that out. Once that happens, you get an hour to axe throw to your heart's content. Did I mention they have craft beers available also? So you can get drunk (not really - if they see that you're wasted, they will ask that you sit down and not throw an axe) and then play time! Our group did surprisingly well and hit a good amount of targets. We all agree that we would come back in the future. I don't know about you, but I am all for anything with weaponry and targets. I have been coming here since they opened with various friends and co-workers. It was my go-to place for an activity based fun time. But, sadly, on my last visit, there were some major changes to their process and their service so I will not be returning. In fact, the next night we ended up going to Live Axe as we wanted to have a fun axe throwing experience and had a fantastic time- so go to LIVE AXE instead of Kick Axe if you can. Why did my long time love for kick axe get axed? I went with my two 16yr old nephews during the early evening and the place was empty. Just us and a young, shy orthodoxed couple. The entire place was EMPTY, not one other group. They put both us parties in the same cage, which neither us nor the young couple wanted. We each made the request to be separated as again the place was totally EMPTY but we were told that they did not have the staff to give us each our own cage as a staffing person had to remain with us. Which was apparently bullshit as the axe expert left us as soon as we were taught the basics. We had an uncomfortable hour where we tried to make up and run a game with our cage partners as again we were left on our own. The whole experience was unnecessary- they could have easily separated us, but chose not to. So I choose not to return. read more

The venue is open, fun and brings people from beginners to connoisseurs to throw some axes. Upon arriving you will be asked to sign a waiver - in case of injury by axe - pretty standard. You are then directed to your lane, with an attendant to give you the basics and keep the focus on safety, fun and axey puns. From there you can hone your axe slaying skills. You learn the basics of body positioning and then you just aim and use your body weight to throw that axe as hard as you can to score points for your team - it is similar to darts in a way. There is a bar on site and you can drink and throw those axes! It's a dream. So dig out your flannel and channel your inner lumberjack. Meh. Axe throwing is fun - I recommend it. But in my "60 minute" session I got to go only a small number of times. First, they were backed up and started my group 10 minutes late. But they ended us at the scheduled time, 50 minutes later. That doesn't count the additional 10 minutes of orientation. Nobody had the space after us, so I don't know why they hurried us out. We had reservations for a group of 4. Even though there were multiple empty lanes, they grouped us with two other couples. Our lane was so banged up already (early in the evening) that we couldn't see the scoring lines and good throws wouldn't hold. They replaced the boards after our time slot. I wish they had replaced them before. Customer service was mediocre. They forgot our drinks. There were issues with our check-in and I was surprised (unpleasantly) by the manager's attitude. I'll definitely try ace throwing again, but will look elsewhere. They have board games - that's a plus. read more

I was very disappointed that though the place was empty, we had to wait a solid 45 mins to start... and once we did, we were paired up with another couple for no clear reason, though every other pair there was given their own court with their own ax-pert. Why we were the *only* group paired with strangers and had our time cut in half, I don't know, and they never bothered to explain. Came here with friends and highly recommend it. Every staff member was kind and made the experience safe and fun. They assign you someone to keep score and teach you how to throw the axes. Big shout out to Laurence because I have never done this but he gave me a lot of instruction and got me that W during the everyone for themselves round!!!
