The staff is awesome!!! Professional, kind, and knowledgeable ! They even remind/ correct me when I'm ordering as they know my order I go there too much. For example, she reminds me to leave out the peppers when I forget to ask! It is pretty small in the dining area so make sure you do t go at too busy of times or you'll be waiting. My favorites are the gang panang and the Tom kar soup. That's my go to order. The gang panang is full of flavor and is the perfect balance or sweet and spice. YUM I get extra veggies with chicken and no peppers. The soup is a ginger coconut soup with mushrooms and tomatoes etc and is delicious . We almost also always get the papaya salad with sticky rice. My husband wants it a spice level 20 out of 10, but they never make it spicy enough. If I can eat it, it's not too spicy. He also gets the chicken wings which are nice and crispy. Not a fan of the peanut sauce there but their spring rolls are plump and good. Not sure when only two rolls started coming in orders, but that's kinda lame and expensive. This is a small restaurant in East Ave. They have a parking lot in the back, which is nice. The restaurant itself has about 7 separate tables and a bar/diner style seating along the window. It feels a little cramped at times. Our server was quick and very nice. For food, we ordered the pork dumplings, the pho, the basil entree, chicken salad, squid panang curry, drunken noodles, and the pineapple fried rice. The pork dumplings were good. The pho was quite good too. The chicken salad was basically minced chicken with some veggies. It tasted decent. The panang curry was very sweet even for a level 4. The drunken noodles were decent but not very outstanding. The pineapple fried rice was ok. It felt a little drier than we would've liked. The basil entree was much to look at, but was decent tasting too. We paid about $100 for the whole meal. I don't know that the food was outstanding and worth that price but it was fine. read more

Door dashed this evening Khong Thai for the first time. We ordered Pad Thai, Udon noodles , pra ram long song, veggie spring rolls and the pork dumplings. 1. Udon Noodles- 8/10- pretty good. Sweeter thick noodles. Texture might be weird for some people. 2. Chicken Pad Thai- 4/10- pretty disappointed with this dish. I have had way better. This was dry, no spice at all and NO peanut taste! 3. Pra Ram Long Song- 10000/10!!! This was SO GOOD! I can't find this dish anywhere anymore... lots of Thai places to not have this on the menu. Delicious!!!! A friend and I went here for my birthday and it did not disappoint! I have to eat gluten free so Thai is a go to of mine. She ordered the Panang curry with tofu and I ordered the curry rice with chicken (both level 3 spice and it was spicy!) both gluten free!!! The food was seasoned sooooo well! The salt was right and the taste was incredible! Some of the best curry in Rochester!! I returned shortly and ordered takeout for my family. We got the pad Thai and other fried rice (Thai and pineapple fried rice). Honestly the pad Thai and other fried rice were not as good as the curries. Also ordered gluten free and had no reaction. I also ordered the mussaman curry and Panay curry again, both incredible!!! The curries at Khong are their shining dishes! Park might be a challenge when you go. There's a small lot and street parking, but my friend and I were able to find parking no problem. The restaurant is small, but they have table and bar seating. The service was friendly and timely. If you're getting Thai food in Roc, this is the place. Yes, it's expensive, but the portions are huge, and it is de-fucking-lish. I always get the pad see eiw, since it's so good that I don't mind a little repetition. The Pad Thai is also the best I've ever had, just bursting with flavor. I haven't tried much else, but I absolutely recommend those 2 things. Thai Tea is also very good. Service is quick and very friendly. Also, you pay before you eat in, which makes life easier. I wanted to out 5 stars. I can't and here is why. I went in and ordered the Curry and house noodle. Both fantastic, really, amazing flavor and fantastic portions. The staff is wonderful. Kind, attentive and very helpful. The space is clean and the food comes out so quickly. After eating, I was struck by such an insatiable headache. My tongue broke out in bumps and was very sore. I was so nauseous. This, unfortunately is indicative to a reaction to MSG. I didn't want to assume, so I called the restaurant and they confirmed that they do, in fact use MSG. It took 3 days for the reaction time go away. Such a wonderful place, but if you have a Monosodium Glutamate allergy/intolerance, avoid this restaurant. read more

Spring rolls, pad thai, pineapple rice, jungle curry were large servings. Contained more fresh vegetables and protein than other restaurants... zucchini, green beans, peppers, broccoli, cabbage. Finally got around to trying Khong Thai last night! We ordered take out after a long day of craving Thai food. After reading some reviews on here, I knew we had to order the curry puffs, and PEOPLE...y'all weren't kidding! These are soooo good. The peanut sauce, the pickles, all of it. Everything compliments each other so nicely...and if I had to live on one food for the rest of my life, it might be these curry puffs. WOW. As for everything else, kind of a mixed bag. The pineapple rice is a must try in my opinion as well. Filled with veggies and a crisp, refreshing sweetness, this rice is pretty next level. The pad thai was mostly a miss for me. The chicken in it was rubbery and more of an afterthought than truly incorporated into the dish. I would be willing to try again with a different protein, but more than likely I will just go with a different dish next time. Service is pretty much non-existent, as other reviews mention. Phone call was sharp after a pretty long hold, and then upon arrival there were no hellos. Just an "are you Megan? That'll be $39.45" The prices are seemingly outrageous ($40 for app, rice, and noodle dish) but we do have lunch for the rest of the week with the super generous portions so I won't dock them too much there. I will be back to try more dishes since the food really is delicious, but beware that this is a super high volume spot and things take quite a bit of time. read more

As a contract worker who travels all around the USA I was very very impressed. I love Thai food and I eat it very often. I often work in high Asian populations such as in the state of California and even with that fact this food is Awesome!! From the portion size, spices, freshness and variety of the vegetables included it's Wonderful!! When I saw 3.8 stars I was going to avoid this place. But I live nearby and I had to try it. We ordered take out and it was our first time trying Khong. Both my partner and I were blown away by not only the portions, but how delicious everything was! We ordered the fried dumplings which were light and crispy. We regretted not ordering two! I ordered pad Thai, and as you can see from the photo, the portion is UNREAL. I had 2 bowls worth of pad Thai and still have about 3 bowls left! My partner also has a serving or 2 left of his meal (pad prinking with tofu). We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and agree that it's some of the best Thai food we've had in town. Next time we plan to eat at the restaurant. I've walked by this place a few times and it was always empty. I decided to try it anyway after my other place left DoorDash. I ordered the curry puffs and curry rice with beef. Khong Thai was a pretty nice Thai restaurant when it first opened. The food was freshly prepared, and it was light and tasty. If you have been eating out the last 20 to 30 years, you will remember when Thai food became the rage and folks who liked Asian food, began shifting their loyalty from Chinese restaurants to the Thai restaurants like the Bangkok downtown, and the early years of the King and I. The Ownership / Management of Khong Thai changed a number of year ago, and the quality of the dishes dropped significantly. I believe it has now become a "fast food" Thai operation. If you order take out, which I have a number of times, you will be told your pick-up will be ready in 30 - 45 minutes. It is ready in 10 minutes! I live only a few blocks away, drive over after placing my order no matter what they have told me, and my order is already sitting on the counter waiting for pick-up ( Same goes for the King and I these days ). Khong Thai's Pad Thai Noodles have become sticky, coagulated, noodles that taste like the sauce was mostly made of catsup. The Pad Khing Sod used to be a very lightly seasoned, clear sauce ( like a wine sauce ) that did not over power the flavors of the vegetables and the protein. Now it is a heavy, brown, greasy gravy. The Thai Curry dishes are no longer vibrant either. Everything is starting to taste like leftovers. My family has since taken to driving an extra 5 miles to a Thai restaurant on Empire Blvd, on the western edge of Webster, for both in restaurant and even take out. They prepare truly "fresh" dishes that you do have to wait for... not ingredients that taste like they were cooked hours ago and thrown together when you placed your order. read more

Heard about this restaurant from a friend today so we decided to try it for take out tonight. Fortunately I didn't pay attention to the hours open on yelp but checked on Google. Yelp indicates it's not open Tuesday nights but it is... Thankfully! I do agree with other reviewer's that it is a little pricey but portions are very generous. We ordered an appetizer and a salad noodle dish and a curry dish and it fed three for dinner with leftovers probably for two lunches. We started with the curry puffs - Similar in taste to a Samosa but the outside pastry was a bit different. Served with an incredible peanut sauce and cucumber salad I would love to be able to buy both by the quart!! . These are absolutely amazing and you must try them For salad we tried the Som Tum papaya salad - super tasty and not as spicy as I have had other places. We went with the Khong house noodle - So delicious and flavorful, tender bit of chicken (we chose chicken as the protein), unfortunately is take out my photos are not very pretty but the flavor was spot on And for the curry we ordered Gang Keow Wan (Sweet & Spicy Green Curry) - level three heat - The heat built as you ate it but didn't kill your taste buds.. The perfect amount to make you want to keep eating more and more I'd highly recommend this for takeout for my son who picked up the order said the inside was modern clean minimalistic Update: so I'll give this a 5 for takeout food BUT do not go and eat in!! went last night for dine in ... waited more than 5 minutes for someone to appear to take orders (should have been a sign...) placed our order - and sat at the only clean table ... we waited and waited... saw three grub hub orders go out and more than 5 to go orders ... we waited - a group of three had been waiting almost 50 minutes and had no food yet. Went for lunch at Khong Thai and it was amazing! Definitely the best thai food in Rochester I've tried so far! Everything we got was amazing, but I would have to say the chicken satay was definitely the star! Sometimes, chicken satay can dry out, but this was the juiciest and most flavorful chicken satay I've ever had! (and the portion was big and the peanut sauce was amazing). Other things we got that were excellent were the spring rolls, pad see ew, tom yum soup, and red curry shrimp. Everything was awesome! The service was quick and the atmosphere was great. They even have lunch specials during the weekdays. Everything was wonderful and I will definitely be back often! read more

Takeout Thai Tonight! Lots of promise -- uneven execution We love the parent restaurant Saks and decided to try their new mini-Restaurant Khong Thai. The results were mixed. We called ahead and the order was ready twenty minutes later. They got the order right. A quick drive home and then.... our favorite appetizer the Curry Puffs were good with a delicious filling and excellent peanut dipping sauce. The Pad Gatiem Shrimp with garlic and black pepper had plenty of garlic but no pepper and no lettuce. The Pra Ram Pork has a pleasant peanut coating but was bland -- more spices please. Our traditional favorite is the Panang Chicken: the broth was a flavorful red curry with a coconut base -- but no kaffir lime leaves! That's the wonderful extra ingredient that puts a twist into the panang. Hmmmmmm. So overall convenient place but average food. read more

Larb Gai, Khong House Noodle with Tofu, and thai iced tea. The Larb gai was fantastic. The chicken was excellent and seasonred well. The cuts of meat were good as well with no fatty parts. The portion was huge as well. The most surprising and pleasing was the Khong house noodle. It was cooked perfectly and the mix of flavors was phenomenal. As always, I got a Thai Iced Tea and it was very very sweet but still good. The tea got left behind because I didn't check my bag and they called me back to let me know. There are a few tables as well as bar style seating by the window. There are plenty of options for most eating styles. I was able to find plenty of options without noodles, rice or overly sweet options. The portions are generous enough to feed 2 people or to bring some home. The appetizers could serve several people or make a meal on their own. If you are eating in, you order at the counter and pay and the food is brought to you. Service seemed friendly and prompt. The space is clean and modern. I had the Chicken Satay appetizer and the Tom Yum Soup with squid (level 4 spice). Certain items are marked with a fist and you can ask for 1-5 fists which is the spice level. I'd probably go a 5 next time. It's definitely worth a return trip! read more

Well, I'm obsessed! I'm so excited to have Khong Thai in my neighborhood and will be making this a regular dinner spot for sure. I ordered the Pad Khee Mou with chicken last night to go and it was the best noodle dish I've ever had in Rochester! You can order their spicy dishes on scale of one to five fists, and I started out with two fists for the Pad Khee Mou. It ended up being what I would consider mild, so I think next time I'll bump it up to three or four fists. The noodles, veggies, and chicken were covered in sauce and packed with flavor. The portion size was also nice and big and I had enough leftover for a lunch the next day. I wanted to hold off on writing a review until I had visited for a sit down meal, which I did tonight. I came back immediately with a friend after the great Pad Khee Mou and the staff remembered my name, which made me feel like they really pay attention to and value their customers. I ordered the Curry Puffs and Pad Gatiem with chicken this time. The Curry Puffs are bigger than I pictured them and the crust was so flaky! The filling had chicken, peas, and carrots and the curry flavor was perfect. Very good appetizer for one or two people. The Pad Gatiem had a light garlic flavor and lots of veggies mixed in with the chicken. It's also served with rice, and I liked soaking it in the yummy sauce. I'm very impressed with Khong Thai. The interior is beautiful (small, though, so consider coming in early to avoid a dinner rush if you want to grab a table) with modern decor, the staff is friendly, and the service was prompt. Khong Thai - Wow. Awesome little spot tucked between a bar and a liquor store on Winton Road. Easy to miss except for the crowded interior space that you can see through the big front windows. Definitely worth your time to seek out for great Thai food (think curries, fried rice, soups, etc) right in the city. We had dinner here the other night after being outside almost all day (meaning, it was cold and we were feeling ravenous). There were three of us, and we wanted something hearty, but also kind of healthy; something warm like soup, but something to fill us up. My one friend had heard about this place but none of us had been, so we drove over and drove right past it, not realizing where it was. Once you know the location, the landmark is the big yellow and black sign for Colter's Bar, which is next door; if you are heading North on Winton and you get to Balsam Bagels, you went too far. Park on the street and watch the signs! We ordered: --Coconut Ginger fried rice with shrimp - this was colorful with all the bite-sized veggies, very fresh looking, and huge; filled with too many shrimp to count; my friend said it was delicious and not too salty or too heavy, which many times fried rice can be; there was definitely enough to split this into two portions! --Gang Keow Wan (Sweet & Spicy Green Curry) - this was mine and I had it vegan (no meat or egg) and it was really good. Very similar to typical green curry, filled with veggies, and served with probably a cup and a half of rice. Though there was easily enough for 2 meals if I had mixed in all the rice, I treated it like a curry soup and focused on the coconut 'broth' and all the veggies and it was really satisfying. I would get this again. --Pad Prinking with pork - this was my hubby's and he was really happy with both the flavor, the amount of meat and the overall portion size. Again, lots of great veggies, and it was really spicy (he asked for '3-fists' of heat), with fresh jalapenos mixed in. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5: 1. The kitchen service was REALLY slow....the staff was very nice/apologetic about it, but we had to wait over an hour after ordering. Seemed like this was due to a very large number of grub-hub takeaway orders that were in the queue before ours, plus, the dining room was full and there was a line when we arrived. So it's obviously a popular place and with really good food, but knowing I might need to wait an hour to get food is a deterrent. 2. The restaurant lighting is SUPER bright. If you sit along the front window or side wall, the lights overhead feel like spotlights that are nearly blinding; sitting at a table is probably better, but when we were there they were all full. FYI, our timing was 7 pm-ish on a Saturday night.... 3. The menu doesn't tell you if dishes are gluten free or contain allergens (like egg, nuts, soy, etc), so I would love to see an update. I always hate to ask if the noodle dishes I'm interested in are rice noodles or not....such a time waster! We will definitely be doing take out from here in the future, and for our next dine-in experience, we'll be better at timing our arrival. Looking forward to trying more of their menu, and especially the 'chef's special' dishes that are his own creations. read more
