Found this place almost entirely by accident after Porque No had a line around the block. The restaurant was empty and we thought they might be closed, but we were greeted quickly. I ordered the Pha Lo, which is a honey cooked pork broth. It was tasty. The pork was tender and melt in your mouth, but after about 5 minutes, all you can taste is sweet. Everything just sort of becomes overpowered by sweet and you get flavor fatigue. Something spicy might have helped, but we had a little bit of a hard time getting the staffs attention after food came out, including to pay. Still delicious, but left with 1/3 of my meal on the plate because I just couldn't take another bite. I would happily go back and try something else. read more

Do yourself a favor and order takeout instead of dining in the restaurant. This place is an eye sore and is in desperate need of a makeover...A lattice ceiling, light orange walls, graffiti on the windows, and a sticky floor that will make your shoes cling to it with every step. The service was also lacking. My friends and I were literally the only people in the restaurant during prime dinner hours and were practically ignored. The server brought out our food, but then sat scrolling on her phone behind the counter. When we were finished with our meal, we had to go and ask for to go boxes. The food itself is pretty decent. We ordered the Pad Thai, red curry, and shrimp fresh rolls. All were good and tasty choices. Reminded me of a place called Thai Pepper in Fort Collins, Colorado. Orange interior with some eclectic decor, but with great food! My partner and I both got Pad See Ew noodles, and the beef and pork were great. We really appreciated their different spice options. We picked this restaurant because of the good reviews. Alas the food was a big disappointment and the service was sad. We ordered pad see ew which tasted weird, like it was made with molasses. We left most of it. The salad rolls were ok but very sticky. The potstickers were pedestrian. The server disappeared near the end of our meal and we went to counter and called and finally we had to open and close the door to get her to reappear. All in all a really poor dining experience. I've ordered from here for delivery several times now. The food is good, they've had to correct themselves (on a delivery order) and did so without trouble. I feel like it's too mild, I've opted for medium spicy on pad Thai and felt there was no kick at all. I'll change it next time. The Thai tea was large and lasted me the whole meal. The yellow curry came out quickly and was so flavorful and delicious! The spice level was perfect, not too spicy to lose out on the enjoyable flavor. The chicken was cooked very well, not overcooked or dry at all. White & Green is a delightful, casual neighborhood spot. Perfect for the stretch of Hawthorne where it is located. You order at the counter, and they have self service water, tea, and a nice variety of hot oils to add to your meal. The kitchen has a deft, subtle hand with the spices, which I found wonderful. The one bite that stays with me most was the flavor of green onion - this is a place where you can really taste the ingredients, rather than having them masked by sauces. You can visit the hot oil bar to decide how much you'd like to add to the seasoning, but I suggest you try the dishes as they come from the kitchen, before deciding on how much (if any) additional seasoning you may want. My family has been ordering take out from Khao Thai for the past several months on a regular basis, as their food is consistently fantastic! They offer a wide variety of classic Thai dishes, and every one has been EXCELLENT! The meats are lean, veggies are not overcooked, rice is perfect! I especially love how their online ordering system allows you to add or omit specific foods to each dish, as well as selecting spice level (which has also been accurate every time), and with the most important option is being able to indicate if you'd like your dish to be made vegan or gluten free!!! We ordered two plates: Pad thai with crispy pork belly and Thai Tomyum soup because I'm craving for a hot soup during the rainny day. Delightful! Smallish plates for Happy hour were well priced, seasoned nicely and came out quickly- what's not to like? Had happy hour menu and a noodle soup that I came for - the YenTa Fo which you don't often see on a Thai menu - delicious/ and had the white fungus I love( picture is half eaten as we were hungry)... the Yum woon sen ( tossed glass noodles with shrimp) was also a favorite- we ordered two servings. I'm so lucky Khao Thai is in my neighborhood. My favorites are spicy eggplant (tofu) and papaya salad, but I eat here all the time and have tried most of the noodle and rice dishes. You seriously can't go wrong here. I usually choose medium spice level at Khao Thai, especially for dishes that are supposed to be hot like papaya salad. Portland is an easy place to find good Thai food, but I'm mad I didn't find this place before. My wife and I would catch ourselves picking certain Thai places for a certain dish we wanted that night (some served it, but others didn't) The White and green Thai bar has every one of our favorites and new dishes to explore! Wow! This place is a real deal hidden gem. We ordered a noodle dish, fried rice and chicken wings. The Thai Noodles Soup was fantastic except that I chose beef as the protein and it was pretty darn tough and chewy but the soup was out of this world with great flavor and perfect heat. You must ask for their homemade chili sauce. It is the bomb. The Basil Fried Rice was also very good. The only disappointment was the wing order. They were over battered and under seasoned. Not for me. I went with the pad thai as it was recommended and have to say it was bland and lacking. I went with mild spice but after 2-3 bites I could barely taste any flavor (not spice as I wasn't expecting any but lacking flavor). The shrimp were terrible and tasted like more or less mush (my kiddo agreed they were gross). The kid enjoyed the won ton soup, said the shrimp in there was better. Apps were average. Kind of blah. Everything turned out great including the service and they even brought some extra peanut sauce as that is my favorite with pad Thai. This brand new place just opened. Clean and bright and friendly inside. We got four dishes off the happy hour menu. A nice bowl of Tom kah, jungle noodles, salad with beef, and cucumber salad. 20 bucks fed two of us very happily. We ordered medium spice for everything, which was fairly mild. The great news is that they have self-serve house made hot sauce to spark things up. Two chili sauces and a fish sauce concoction, all really yummy. This is an order at the counter kind of place, bus your own dishes.The food is really good, I think the Tom kah gai was the highlight for me. The serving size was like a good sized personal bowl of soup. Serving size on the other dishes we're about what you expect for five bucks. Excellent Tom-Kha! Such flavor. We added carrots and cabbage and that was perfect! The vegetable tempura was also excellent with enough pieces to share, the correct amount of breading and a great assortment. One thing that was strange is they sent sweet and sour sauce as an accompaniment not a dipping sauce. But the tempura were delicious! The spring rolls were crispy and with the sweet and sour sauce were just amazing! We all loved these! And the pot stickers did come with a dipping sauce, which we used with the tempura! It was all good! We also had the Spicy Basil with chicken and this dish was delicious. Remember that the spice level is Thai! We ordered mild and still ended up with a pleasant burn to end our meal!
