I've continued to go to Khai for a majority of my tailoring needs but most recently noticed quality has taken a dip. For example, one of the shirts I had hemmed came loose at the bottom twice. He fixed it for free, but I expected it to last without needing to have to come back each time. He's increased his prices over the years although he's still comparably lower than other alteration shops. read more

I was quite disappointed with the outcome. I took a very nice suite jacket to be adjusted and brought in on the back a bit since it was somewhat big, as well as the sleeves. The sleeves were done perfect. But the back, the jacket was tighter on the right side and brought more in than the left side. The jacket was not symmetrical and you could tell that it was bigger on the left side. I had to take the jacket to another tailor to correct the mistake and now I had to spend almost half the cost of the jacket to fix the errors. The jacket was also full of lint when I picked it up. They didn't take care of my clothes so I was quite disappointed in the service. I wanted to support small business and give it a try but never again. read more

Overall recommendation 5/5: Mr.khai is super reliable and is crazy affordable, no frills and he's honest with you on what he's capable of doing or what kind of leeway your garment provides for tailoring. I've been going to him for years. Where I usually get things hemmed or garments pulled in because they're too loose. He's usually done within a week, earliest I had was a 3. Service: super quick , Mr.khai can spot what you need right away. I would recommend you use direct English or hand motions if you're concerned about any language barriers - so many people from different backgrounds come here, so I don't think that's an issue. Mr khai was very sweet and fast. He hemmed 3 dresses and taken in one in and the dresses fitted perfectly. Not only did he do my dresses but he also squeezed in some other bridesmaid dresses from my friends. I brought my dress in on Tuesday and he said he would have it done by next week and called me back and told me my dresses were already done after a few days. Super fast and reasonably priced. A few of us dropped of our bridesmaid dresses with Khai. Although there was a bit of a language barrier she did a great job altering our dresses. The price was about $45 to have the dress (3 layers) hemmed and taken in. It took about a week for her to finish but my friend dropped hers off a little late and Khai was able to finish it in 2 days. Quick turn around, good customer service, fair pricing ($40 for BM dress hemmed within 2 hours), convenient location, and quality product and service! CASH ONLY! Came to Khai Tailor after browsing and calling several asian tailors in Chinatown to see who could get it done the quickest, for a decent price. I ended up going to Khai because he said he could do it quick, and also it was right around the corner from the Vietnamese church that my friend was getting married at the next day. I figured in the event he couldn't do it the same day, I would pick a tailor nearby the church to pick up the dress early in AM. I had a bridesmaid's dress from Lulu's that I needed hemmed ASAP, since the wedding was the very next morning. I dropped it off around 2pm, and it was ready for pickup at 5pm. Khai was a man of little words, but the few words he did say were pleasant and professional. He had me slip on the dress so that he could make measurements, and he was very detail oriented and attentive. After a few hours, I came back and he had me try it on to make sure it was how I wanted it. Looked great, just as I had hoped, and the stitchwork was impeccable, no loose threads or messy knots! I even machine washed my dress after the wedding, and the stitchwork was still in tact. Very happy with the service here! I took two pair of jeans to get fitted, the owner pinned one leg and that was all he needed. I was a little concerned but when I picked up the jeans and tried them on, they fit perfectly! I have a hard time finding skinny jeans that really are skinny on me, but he was able to reduce the excess fabric so that they really fit well. I was thrilled! read more

Khai has become my tailor of choice since the last lady I used retired. I really like his work, however, communication can be difficult, at times. His prices are fair ($10 to adjust the fit on your shirt, body and arms) or $4.99 for a hem. He has even altered drapes for me. read more

Do not recommend this place for the following reasons: Price switching - this shop will arbitrarily change their prices, apparently based on how much they think they can get out of you. Cash only - add a $2 to $4 ATM fee to whatever price they give you because they do not take credit cards. Turnaround - This shop quotes a week to do what other shops can do in a day or two. read more

A little unknown place tucked away on Beechnut. I went here because i pass by it going to work every day. One day i decided to give it a shot. Now i've been to other tailors who charges me an arm and a leg to alter well....my arm and my leg on shirts and pants. Khai is a friendly place and the gentleman speak "hard to understand" English. He does however speak tailor speak so he knows exactly what you want to get done. I took in a dress shirt to get the sides taken in and added darts, bill was $15. Took in pants to get hemmed and resized on the waist, $20. So far i love the work done, it's very cheap and clean. No loose stitching, no noticeable marks, etc. I admit i have yet to let him tailor a suit. Though i overheard him speaking with another customer and believe the pricing are also reasonable on suit alteration. read more

This was my first time here, I brought in a floor length long ballgown dress and Khai was able to alter my dress within 2 hours!! I tried on my dress with my heels and Khai make the proper markings. I just received my altered Ao Dai today from this place. Khai did an excellent job. I got my Ao Dai done and sent from Viet Nam but because of the inaccurate measurements (I did it myself), my Ao Dai was loosen at the back. I am very happy that Khai could fix it for me. I've been going here for all my alterations for 15+ years. Khai is a hardworker. He measures you and listens to what you want. He will explain his alteration if he suggests a different way to alter i.e a dress. His prices are great and he is reliable. I never even take a ticket home after dropping off since he remembers everyone and all their orders (he will give a ticket if you request). 6-2-17 I am very disappointed in the owners attitude. I had taken a pair of pants to have the leg narrowed. The owner gave me an attitude about that but relented, and I thought we had gotten past our differences. However, on another occasion, I asked to have clear buttons added to a suit jacket, and he once again got an attitude and refused to alter clothes as requested. It was clear that he was being racist as he was very dismissive of my requests and refused to have a reasonable discussion. There was simply no reason for him to act like that and again it was clear from how he treated other nonblack customers that my skin color was the problem. Please boycott this business as he may do good work but his racist attitude has no place in the Alief community. Business owners that do no respect black people need to feel the economic repercussions of their actions. read more
