If I ever have to get my jeans (only own Levi's) hemmed, I take them to G & L Alterations in Katy. I have taken my other pants like khakis and slacks there also. This place has been my alterations place for approximately 10 years. The place hasn't changed. It sill looks the same as when I started going to this place. What makes this place good? One thing is price. I got two pairs of jeans hemmed for about $20. I paid on the day of dropoff so you get a discount. I specifically gave them instructions to make the stitch on the hem thicker by going twice. I also told them to use a dark blue thread on one and an orange thread on the other jean. My jeans came out exactly like I wanted. Another thing that makes this place good is they are on time. I've never really needed something done in a day or two, but it usually is about one week till they are finished. I think they say one week to be on the safe side. I usually just stop by about 5 days after dropoff and they are done. A third thing that makes this place good is assurance. For jeans, they always ask if you have washed them already. This is for shrinkage reasons. Also, when I pick them up, she tells me to come back if I have any problems. I haven't had any so far. One thing I wished they do is reweaving. I need to get a suit jacket reweaved and they don't do that service. Oh well, at least they take care of my Levi's. read more

My "lovely" dog decided to tear apart the bottom of my brand new jacket and ripped out the zipper. I only got to wear it, like, 5 times. So, lucky for her I forgave her and looked around for a place to fix it. I found G & L Alterations online and after reviewing several great reviews I decided to use them. I am so glad I did. The woman who helped me was incredibly nice. It took exactly one week to fix it but it was because she was backed up on altering prom dresses, which was fine since it's about 110 degrees here in Texas and I didn't need my jacket right away. So, I picked up my jacket today and not only did she repair the zipper, but she also patched up the missing piece on the bottom without me asking her to. She didn't even charge me extra for it! Now my jacket looks brand new again. :-) I highly recommend this place. The repair work was perfect, the service was excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I paid around $19 for the repair but got a discount because if you pay when you drop it off, she gives you 10% off. If I didn't pay ahead then it would've been around $21. It's a couple bucks off but, hey, we're in a recession and $2 can get you some fast food. read more

I was pleasantly surprised how nice the people are here! I found them here on yelp and decided to give it a try. I live in the alief area so it was about a 25 minutes drive to get here. I was that desperate. I paid on the same day I dropped off my chef pants that were extremely too large for me to get a 10% off. Costumer beware...I brought an item in to get the item altered to fit better and when I arrived inside I was met by the manager who stated that the work would be kind of difficult to do due to the fact that there would be some velcro on the item that would have to be maneuvered around and the cost to do the work would cost $50.00. I was completely understanding of that due to the work that was described that would need to take place to get it altered and paid before leaving the item with them. When I arrived two days later to pick up my item I was baffled to see that the work that needed to be done was not done at all and instead the very unprofessionally added extra pieces of velcro which is something that I could have done myself. I asked if that still stood to grounds to cost $50.00 for that kind of unprofessional work. I was advised that it would still be $50.00 despite that original price being based off of the thought that the work to alter would be more difficult than just adding a few pieces of velcro to the item. Very disappointed. My family has had many things altered here and am shocked at the lack of effort to charge an arm and a leg for something that was made out to be more difficult and than that work not even being done. Seems like the workers took the easiest way out to get themselves a quick $50.00. Beware of the unprofessional craftsmanship that may come from this alteration business. read more

When I purchased my dress I was told by the boutique that they did not do alterations in house. That I needed to the places they recommend....well I knew that meant more ways to jack up the price. I started my search and found a couple of places one said I had to get on a waiting list, another stated it would cost $1200 and they were not sure they could have it done by the date I needed it. I finally found G & L Alterations!!! I called and the sweet lady on the phone could fit me right in. I went to my appointment and the three ladies there were nothing, but helpful. They made me feel right at home and treated me incredibly well. For the time I was in there, I want to say 2 hours, I saw over 15 plus people walk in the get there items. This gave me assurance that found a great place. After one of the ladies finished she told me that she took my dress in 3inchs(I'd los some weight from the time I bought my dress) and take it up, then she said that she was going to add ties to help keep the train under the dress for volume. When I was ready to let the train out these ties were easy to find. The owner of G & L Alterations offered 10% discount for paying today which I did. She explained that my dress would be ready in 2 weeks. I was so shocked. Other places had said 4 weeks minimum, but here they get the job done. I received a phone call 2 weeks later and came in to try my dress on. It was PERFECT!!! These ladies did such an amazing job. My dream dress was now made to fit me. I almost cried right there in the store. The owner told that when she quoted me the price she didn't realize how much work the dress would be, but she is a women of her word so she honored it. What she quoted was $485 for an alteration that should've been $700 at least. I was over the moon, that this sweet lady did all this work and she made sure everything was perfect. I am writing this review to let everyone know that this business gives you top of the line service and product. My dress was made for me and it cost $2500 before the alterations.
