My fiancée and I came to Bastien's for our anniversary. We have a tradition of going out for steak…read moreevery year, but this time we were looking for something a little more casual than your typical upscale steakhouse. Bastien's ended up being exactly what we were looking for. The atmosphere is very old-school and welcoming. We weren't very sure how dressed up we needed to be, so I went with a casual button down and she wore a long skirt which made us over dressed compared to most in the restaurant. We saw everything from button-down shirts to T-shirts, shorts, hats, and flip-flops, so you can feel comfortable showing up however you want. We were seated upstairs, which ended up being a really cool space. With the string lights overhead and the circular room overlooking the dining room below. We started with a bottle of Oregon Cabernet Sauvignon, which was surprisingly reasonably priced for a steakhouse. It paired perfectly with our meal and was a great way to kick off the evening. For an appetizer, we ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts. They were prepared with an elote-inspired twist, featuring corn, onion, cotija cheese, and lime crema. I normally love Brussels sprouts, but this was probably the only miss of the evening for me. They weren't bad, just not something I'd order again. Every table also gets complimentary bread and butter. Nothing fancy, but it's always a welcome steakhouse tradition while you're waiting for your meal. For our entrées, my fiancée ordered the filet, and it was solid - perfectly cooked, tender, and probably my favorite steak of the night. Since it was my first visit, I wanted to try Bastien's signature 10-ounce New York strip with the famous sugar rub. I'm usually a filet person, but I wanted the full Bastien's experience. The sugar rub was fun to try. That said, if I had to choose between the two, I'd still take the filet next time. One thing that really sets Bastien's apart is the value. Every steak comes with vegetables (very small portion), your choice of potato, and your choice of soup or salad--all included in the price. That's almost unheard of at steakhouses these days. I had the loaded baked potato, which was excellent, while my fiancée ordered the mashed potatoes, and they were incredibly buttery and delicious. The value here is honestly second to none. Five stars for value alone. To top off the evening, the staff surprised us with a complimentary cheesecake for our anniversary. It was a really thoughtful gesture. Cheesecake isn't usually my first choice for dessert, and my fiancée isn't much of a cheesecake fan, so I ended up eating most of it--but I certainly wasn't complaining. It was delicious. If cheesecake isn't your thing, they also have other desserts available on the menu, but this one was a complimentary gift from the restaurant. Overall, Bastien's delivers exactly what it promises: a relaxed, old-school steakhouse serving quality food at prices that are becoming harder and harder to find. While we'll probably continue choosing some of Denver's more upscale steakhouses for milestone celebrations, Bastien's has earned a future visit from us. Between the quality of the steaks, the generous portions, and the unbeatable value, we'll definitely be back.

We had a reservation, and were seated within a few minutes of arriving. I ordered a dirty martini, which they also add pickled hot pepper juice to, which gives it a nice zip. They have blue cheese olives (you just have to ask for them, and it's a small up charge). The steaks come with a starter salad, with your choice of dressing. You can order your steak with any preparation, but we were here for the sugar steak we've heard so much about. Let me tell you - it did not disappoint! My steak was cooked to the correct temp (I ordered it rare), the broccoli was good, as was the baked potato. Overall, a delicious meal, I would absolutely come back (and maybe try one of their other steak preparations).

Update: All of the previous review is true. Through the…read morewinter some A/C units still were cycling on and off. What I came to realize is that due to the design of the building, there is very poor air circulation and ventilation, so the apartments stay unnaturally warm. To get air flow I prop open my front door and open the balcony door. This allows air to pass from outside into the hallway. Its not great to have my door open! But I think it makes sense why tenants have to overuse the air conditioning so much. I had to break my lease and leave 3 months early before the summer starts because the noise is unbearable. I wear noise cancelling headphones all day. Another thing to keep in mind when looking to rent here is that the building was built modularly. There are seams in the hallway floor where the building didnt quite line up. While this isn't a big deal, what it signals is that the building is not the highest quality, although the exterior design is attractive. The walls are very thin. There is a very loud beagle in the apartment just below me. I was in the hallway 3 floors below them and unbelievably I could hear the beagle! None of this is the building management or CWS's fault. I think they want to work and run a nice apartment building. I think they genuinely want to have happy people in the building. But some things like how this building was constructed is out of their control. They only way to rectify the A/C problem is to have them on a floating platform that is connected to the building vertices by cables. This would minimize the direct vibration of the ceiling and minimize if not completely remove the noise they create. But I doubt they would be able to fund something like that. Please look at the picture I put up and if one of those is under consideration be aware of this issue.

A lack of wi-fi in the gym... oh well. All of these things are presented in their advertisements. CWS (the property management company) doesn't care. They just want that $2k per month and will lie to get it. The Covid excuses are old. Places need to adapt and get back to some version of normalcy. CWS did not do that and is still lagging. The Marq used to be nice but it's become a dump since the plague started and it's CWS' fault. The other side to this is that the maintenance crew gets things done very fast and Kara and Julie are awesome people. All of the problems with The Marq are because their hands are tied with CWS' bullsh*t policies. Kara and Jullie will definitely be missed.
