We were SO close with the last puzzle, but the difficulty was honestly perfect for us and when the last puzzle's solution was unveiled...d'oh! As a longtime fan of adventure games like the type Lucasarts did back in the day, this really scratched my puzzle itch and that same satisfaction when you finally solve a puzzle that's driving you nuts! Additionally, Sarah was a fantastic host! As this was our first escape room, she perfectly let us know what to expect, her clues when we needed them were very clear for us and you can tell she really enjoys this place with the enthusiasm she showed. The price is about what you'd expect per person for an escape room based on other ones I've seen online and they even do 20% off on Thursdays to boot! If you're new to escape rooms, this is the place for you. And even if you're a seasoned escape room vet, this place will pleasantly surprise you, as the owner creates the puzzles himself and doesn't buy it/contract it out from another company. Literally the Best Escape Room Experience Ever! Okay... we're still talking about this days later…read more My family and I went to Nocturne Adventures not knowing what to expect, and WOW--this place blew our minds. It felt like we walked right into a full-blown horror movie. The vibe? Intense. The acting? On point. The storyline? Wild. And YES... you're actually being chased which somehow makes the puzzles feel even more real and urgent. Pure adrenaline from start to finish! But here's what really made it special: My mom is Deaf, and a lot of times she's left out of experiences like this (escape rooms can be SO fast-paced). I told her I'd interpret for her, but then one of the actors started signing in ASL. We were all stunned in the best way. It turned the night from fun to unforgettable. My mom felt seen and included, and we all got to experience it together. It's rare to find something this immersive and inclusive. Nocturne Adventures nailed it on every level. We thought we knew good escape rooms having visited a few impressive ones (and a few not so impressive ones) in Charlotte, but Xscape's Curse of the Mummy room put them all to shame! My husband's family lives in Valdese, just 20 minutes or so from this escape room, and when we were looking for something fun to do with his sister for her birthday, we decided to book at Xscape. They only have the one room right now but are working hard to open a second (involving diffusing a bomb, I'm told) in the coming months. The Curse of the Mummy room incorporates amazing props, immersive "scenery," and incredible technology. Seriously, it's the best room we've ever experienced, hands down. I don't want to give away too much, but will tell you that I'm still emptying sand out of my shoes a couple hours after escaping with just a few minutes to spare. ;)

The place itself felt a bit worn down--the rooms weren't very clean, and some props seemed broken or not working as they should. For the price, I expected it to be in better shape, especially since it's not a brand-new location. I also think the one-hour time limit feels a little short; an extra 10-15 minutes would make the experience more enjoyable without feeling rushed. The staff member at the front desk was friendly, but he had trouble with my card and ended up having to enter it manually, which was a little inconvenient. Overall, not terrible, but definitely room for improvement--both in terms of upkeep and value for the price.
