As much as I feel this is a "Real Grocery Store" it changed a lot in the last 3 years . Their produce section is small couldn't even find what I was looking for and that was fresh string beans and escarole . Last time I went shopping the meat counters were even empty and filled with packaged cold cuts instead . Idk if it's the world that's changing or them but I found it odd . I used to go to this grocery store all the time. It's a decent enough grocery store really. I can't go here anymore because of another issue though. They have some kind of Machinery, maybe it's HVAC or refrigeration I don't know, but I live a block away and it's makes the most god awful noise. I can't keep my windows open anymore. Based on the reviews, I was expecting a horror show but it was fine. Key foods is not Whole Foods. I love Key Foods because it's nice to get the basic items and stock up on the cheap. This store is quite large and has a lot of selections from local brands to national brands. It's actually one of the bigger Key Foods I've been in anyway. Iam a fan! I think what turns people off is that some characters tend to hang outside sometimes. I didn't feel unsafe, but it's also located near a shopping center, so there's a lot of different types of people around. read more

a ok key food supermarket in greenpoint that has the basic and a little more.while waiting for my cuz i stopped quickly at key food to pick up a few bottles of diet pepsi and some organic eggs and whole wheat bread .with limited time to spare i really didnt give the place a full lookover but the deli and meat section looks fairly standard with a limited section of seafood. prices were about average with a bunch of items on sale if you look at the weekly flyer. didnt wait look on long as every cashier booth was open and moving in a brisk pace. bring your own bags or they will charge you 50 cents per each which you can reuse. overall a decent supermarket for the locals who dont need the variety of food bazaar, shoprite or stop &shop. 4 stars on my yelp meter. read more

Today is Saturday March 28th. My father, a senior citizen, went to this Key Food to pick up a few things. He couldn't quite make out my mother's handwriting and found himself alone, not knowing how to manage picking up the groceries he needed. The staff here helped my dad figure out his list, packed them up for him, and made sure he and the groceries made their way home to my mom. I cannot thank the staff here enough for what they did for my parents. During this pandemic where I am quarantined because I am sick, I didn't know how to manage what my parents needed. Thanks to the amazing staff at this Key Food, my parents got what they needed. I don't know the names of everyone who helped, but I do know one of them is named Roman. If there is a supervisor reading this review, please know that I am indebted to you for what you did for my parents, particularly my father, today. I've been shopping at this particular Key Food(store 434) weekly for over 20 years and if my next experience is anything like my most recent visit on 7/06/22 it will be my last. First off the aisles were cluttered with abandoned dollies loaded with groceries waiting to be shelved. I waited for 5 mininutes before I gave up being ignored by the no less than three workers at the deli counter and left without making a purchase. There were no other customers waiting so that couldn't have been the excuse. At the check out, the cashier: Ryan 121 was more interested in his conversation about a car with an idle co-worker than actually doing his job. He had to be asked repeatedly to engage the conveyor belt so i could load my groceries. He managed to bruise most of my fruits and vegetables and crush my bread while scanning and dumping them on packing counter, despite being asked to handle them more gently. Didn't offer to help bag any of the groceries once he finished scanning them. Then due to lack of any kind of attention to what was going on(still talking to the still idle co-worker), made me go through the payment process twice. The final disappointment occurred when I went to cook the Bell & Evans chicken legs I had bought dated sell by 07/09/22 and found them to be so spoiled that I had to throw them in the outside trash immediately and was unable to use my kitchen for 20 minutes while I aired it out with fans due to the smell. The place has really gone downhill since they removed the self-checkouts and replaced them with more lanes that never seem to be open. It's turned quick trips to the store into frustrating experiences waiting in line. Today, there was one checkout line open in the entire store, so the line was wrapped all along the front. It felt SO good to take out our dual purpose laundry/shopping cart down 3 blocks to McGuinness and get our grocery on. I don't think I've had a serious food spree like this since I've been independent, probably due to being weak and unable to carry too many grocery bags. This is a real grocery store, guys. It's huge. #1 FIRST AND FOREMOST!!! I cannot say enough about how awesome the deli staff is in this Key Food. They are some of the sweetest, nicest and funniest people on the other side of the counter and I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't have a tip cup / jar, especially because of the sandwiches, hot food prep, etc. I DEMAND A TIP CUP! The store made roast beef is done perfectly and is to die for. Their deli sandwiches are loaded and a steal. I love the people who work the registers. They are pretty much always cheerful and great to deal with. The rest of the store has been expanding their organic section, some of their produce is a bit pricey compared to the plethora of fruit and veggie stands in the area, and the produce guys are great too. The aisles are spaced well, and they seem to have gotten over the **let all the teens run the store on the weekend** snafu that made it brutal to go there late last year / early this year. I actually love grocery shopping. It suits both my left and right brains, between the sensual experiences (touching the veggies, smelling the bakery, seeing all the pretty colors) and the methodical checking off of a list. Unfortunately, I do not love grocery shopping in Greenpoint. There are just no great options for the overall grocery experience, although there are plenty of places to stop for particular items (like homemade cookies at the Garden, rye bread at Old Poland Bakery, organic stuff at the *other* Garden near the Indian Palace...) I am throwing 4-stars to Key Food because I wish someone had told me about it when I first moved to the neighborhood so I wouldn't have wasted time at the weird-smelling and attitudey Associated or at the just-OK C-Town. It is certainly no Fairway or Wegmans, but I think Key Food is the best that the 'hood has to offer for the one-stop-staple-buying grocery experience. What I think is nice in this store is that they will deliver your groceries, so if you know any elderly person who needs the help, they can shop and for a small fee have it delivered at home. Wide variety of items, the fruits and vegetables are pricier than other supermarkets. read more

I've been shopping here for quite a few years since living in this vicinity of Brooklyn. They recently changed owners and I'm not sure if it's convenient or not. It seems that they are just additions to the people traffic going on in the store. They do a lot of their inventory stuff during busy shopping hours which is a huge inconvenience if you have a cart rolling around. It's a battle ground with the carts of consumers and the inventory carts of the employees. Their produce is between bad and mediocre. It's never fresh enough. The vegetables are always bruised, soft, overgrown, etc. I always struggle with finding good fruits and veggies and because it's a large part of what I eat, I often end up going to a market to get my fresh ingredients. The meats is also questionable. I've gotten sick far too many times from bad chicken, bad pork, or bad beef. I would never even DARE venturing towards their seafood as that too, looks suspect. When buying ground beef here, one should poke at it (I know that's terrible, but don't poke a hole!) and see if it is truly red all around. Many times I've bought ground beef from there and the entire thing would just smell awful and be all brown inside. So you ask, why do I still shop there? Well, it's the closest grocery store to my house. With my hectic schedule, I often don't have time to go elsewhere. And I only do my shopping every so often therefore I usually have my large "granny-cart" with me which is difficult enough to maneuver alone rather more with groceries in there. I have to make compromises. For the good side, their prices are usually really fair. They always have such great sales and perfect to take advantage of for the not-so-rich Brooklyn dweller. If they would just adjust the integrity of their fresh produce and meats, I would be more than three stars. read more

My wife stopped in today to do some shopping, no issues except for one. The chicken she bought was rotten. It was Purdue Chicken Tenders that had a sell by date of 9/15(today is the 13th). When I opened the package and went to prepare the chicken, I was hit in the face with a horrible smell of rot. After closer examination, the package was re-sticked probably because it was bad. I LOVE THIS PLACE Reminds me of suburbia supermarkets You can actually stroll around with a shopping cart and they have a biiiiig parking spot. Weekly sales are awesome, staff is very helpful if you are looking for a specific ingredient. The meat selection is giant, they also carry items from d'artagan (sp) Prices are pretty good here (not whole food ish, more like trader joes-ish) They have seafood- though this is the only thing I really haven't purchased here ever (it does look good) They have tons of varieties in oils, flours, beers, yogurts, cheeses, veggies, fruits, dried fruits, jams, legumes (canned, dried, frozen), ice creaaaaaaaams!!!, breads, cleaning supplies, etc... Compared to the other grocery store options in the area, this Key Food is, well, key! Walking distance from my place, but also right off McGuinness Blvd with a big parking lot for those of you with cars (although I don't know any). True that there are better places to get produce or bread, but Key Food has a decent selection of quite of few things if you need a one stop shop. read more

Not being from or having lived in New York long, I'm used to having my fair share of beautifully big wide aisled grocery stores but Key Food is not that. However, from what I've seen in the city this place is big and clean Overall the prices are pretty good and they are generally well stocked. It does always seem like there are 35 people "working" and only 8 actually working so that's annoying. I will compliment the manager of the deli, he's amazing and maybe the nicest person I've encountered in the city. It's a good place to get groceries and I will definitely continue to shop here. This Thankgiving, with a predicted dark & deadly Covid Winter, this Key Food on McGuineess Blvd STILL refuses to provide plastic sheeting protection around its register s--for the sake of both its customers and its employees. Smaller stores in the area, even lowly 99 cent stores, have provided this in their establishments, with some (such as Whole Foods) even limiting the number of customers at one time - but not Key Food. And nearby Assocaited not only had had plastic shields around their registers since April, but also has provided surgical gloves! Does Key Food management simply not care? Or are they so cheap that they do not value safety above profits? Either way, they are irresponsible. Pasting six-foot stickers on the floor is far from enough, Key Food has the $$$ to air TV ads telling us how much they l-o-v-e their customers. Well show some of that love Key Food, and put your ad money where your mouth is m by helping to protect your customers and employees during this pandemic emergency. Love this spot. It's convenient and usually has a small variety of whole foods and meats. I wish their meat section was as impressive as their deli section... It would be great to have a butcher available and an increased variety of meat. I will say that I can usually find some great proteins however, it's never what I need but rather I find something and plan a meal around it. For instance, I'm always looking for a whole 3-5 lbs cut of chuck but they never offer this. Rather, they offer stew cut chuck. So, my only gripe is the meat section. In comparison to Ctown and Associated this supermarket is the better option with a large selection of everyday food items. Produce is fresh. Deli meat is good. Deli food like riceballs were not so good. Staff is friendly and helpful. Meat is a whole nother mother. I purchased in error managers special meat to make same day and it was bad. I purchased regular handmade burgers those were bad too. Chicken cutlets are good because they move off the shelves quicker. I have to find a reputible meat place. JUICE! This Key Food has like the best deals on juice. There's always a 2 for $5 deal on orange juice and 2 for $3 on Ssips iced tea, lemonade. Tropicana's fruit punch, orangeade, tropical punch, and more area always on sale here! If you wanna rack up on juice, this is your spot! They also have a decent beer selection for a supermarket. They carry some IPA's, stouts, molsons, dogfish, and few other decent ones. This supermarket is really well organized and it's very clean. The best part about coming here is their parking lot. Wow - an actual grocery store with a PARKING LOT. Not that I drive or anything. I was amazed to find this place when I moved to Greenpoint from the East Village, where even the "big chain" grocery stores are cramped with crappy selections. This supermarket is large and does not feel like an NYC supermarket at all. Produce is better than the other big supermarket near me (C-Town) and, I believe, cheaper but I could be wrong. I am vegetarian and I like to see a wide variety of soy products - fake deli meats, Amy's Organic, Morningstar and such - and this place has it all. You know what I get even more excited about? THEY HAVE TOMBSTONE PIZZAS. Eating Tombstone makes me think of my childhood. There aren't many places around that sell the brand so I make special trips here just to pick up a stack of these things.
