Keter is the best salon in Berkeley and probably all of the Bay Area. I see Mayra to get my hair bleached and toned but I've seen nearly every stylist with amazing results. They use kerastase and olaplex so you know it's top tier. If you want to get your hair done and actually get exactly what you want this is the spot, plus it's in a cute area with a bunch of things to do so it's a nice place to hang out before or after your appointment. 10 out of 10 will keep going here forever. I booked an appointment (this is my first time at the salon) and called in 24 hours within the appointment to check if I could do perms with my appointment since perms were not listed in the booking system so I wasn't sure. Whoever picked up the call had such bad attitude: first they said could not cancel it the day before without charging half the haircut ($96, but I also have a short bob and would've asked for a slight trim so not sure about the pricing either) which would be around $50. I stated that this was my first time there; that policy was not clearly written anywhere when I made the booking; I could not call in the day before either because the shop was closed; and that as a student I really can't afford to pay $50 without accessing any services. They said they would have to check back with the owner on whether they would have to charge me. But when I tried to work out other options like rescheduling my appointment or if I should come in either way in case they cannot get back to me on time, they repeatedly stated that "I'm too busy" and there are "too many people on the line" that they needed to tend to. They said they would cancel my appointment either way, which I thought was a rather unfriendly and disrespectful way to resolve the situation. They must have been having a really awful morning, but I'm unfortunately never going to book another appointment at this place. read more

I previously had highlights done at a different salon and while I liked the color, it was getting a bit dull and I wanted more of balayage, blended look. Setting up the appointment was a breeze; I called the number and I was instantly matched with a time slot that worked perfectly! A few days before my hair appointment, I received a text message reminder which was definitely helpful and necessary for a busybody like me. As soon as I arrived at the salon, I could not help but notice how clean and modern it looked. The reception was polite and greeted me right away, offering me water and tea. She was also efficient, leading me to my stylist, Stephanie right away. I was also given a robe, which gave such a cute and comforting touch to the experience. Stephanie was an absolute wonder to work with. She understands that customer satisfaction is vital, so she listened to my needs first. At the same time, she also shared her honest professional opinion and even offered some advice. It turns out what I thought I wanted was more of an ombré, balayage but she suggested more lowlights to offer dimension and depth. She made sure we were on the same page, showing me dozens of example pictures- something that is rare in the hair world these days! Stephanie also took her time darkening my roots and periodically asking me if the shade/tone was to my liking. I ultimately ended up with darker roots, and more of a smoother transition to a well-toned honey blonde on the tops. She styled my hair with loose beach waves-exactly the type of Instagram-worthy hair I was looking for. Stephanie was transparent, telling me the products used- three different gloss colors by L'Oréal Pro to offer more texture and customization. She later promoted some of their products to keep my hair looking shiny and healthy. I will be sure to check them out next time! Overall, Stephanie and Keter Salon provided me with the experience that I've always wanted but never received from a salon. It all came down to a decent price as well- around $90 before the tip. Now this is a pride that is almost unheard of for me in the Bay Area. This just further proves that Keter does not sacrifice quality for price or comfort! Mayra has done a wonderful job helping me maintain a professional appearance during Covid and the long months when the salon was closed for services. She asked me a number of thoughtful questions to suggest just the right products to help me take care of my hair when I couldn't get it professionally styled. I have now been to the salon twice during the pandemic. I am careful about my exposure and felt very safe with the precautions taken by the salon. Roxy is amazing. Backstory: I hate paying for haircuts. Yea, I know, you pay for what you get. But I've had $100 haircuts that I have left feeling disappointed while my Los Angeles hairdresser charged me $35 for a decent dry cut (my hair a long rounded cut, nothing fancy). When I moved up to Oakland, my first haircut here was a disaster that it traumatized me. I bought a pair of shears and decided to just trim my own hair. That worked for a bit, but after 18 months, my hair was getting out of control, so I decided to suck it up and pay for nice salon. I chose Keter for it's stellar Yelp reviews. You did not do me wrong Yelpers. I had the best experience here with Roxy. I am very protective of my long hair and hairdressers make me more nervous than dentists. But I also wanted an undercut (shaving off 2 inches of nape-hair is the most drastic thing I've done to my hair...ever). Roxy was so patient and knowledgable and made sure to check with me every step of the way. She ended up spending at least an extra half hour more than my allotted appointment, but never made me feel rushed. She wanted to make sure that she got my hair just right. I walked out of that salon feeling amazing. It's not a cheap hair-cut, but it's certainly reasonable given the time and attention, so I felt it was definitely money well spent. Everyone at Keter seems to really care about their customers and committed to making sure they have the best experience possible. Bonus: the hair wash was phenomenal. I love this salon! It is so difficult to find a talented and reasonably priced hair salon here in the bay. I have tried many and this is, by far, the best. It's tough to rate the salon as I feel it depends on the stylist you receive so I'll separate the two. Salon: - Pretty easy to call and make appointments. They usually have receptionist staffed. If not, they actually return voicemails. - Salon is always clean. They clean up immediately after. I love it. - Shampoo bowls are comfortable af. I have a horrid time in shampoo bowls are my head is rather large lmao but I can (and have) napped mid shampoo and head massage. Booking an appointment over the phone was easy and the woman I spoke with was nice in helping me decide what kind of coloring style I actually wanted. Came in to get a balayage done hoping to eventually get it to an ashy tone. I was already aware going in that I will definitely need more than one session since my hair was dark brown. Heidi was awesome! She really listened to me and understood what I wanted to do with my hair. She was so friendly and easy to talk to. She was gentle and really made me feel like I was getting the right treatment. I can not say enough great things about this salon and Jessica specifically who gave me a beautiful balayage over a brassy balayage done somewhere else that I was not so happy about. She put in cool tones and made my hair the beachy look I was hoping for. My hair was much thicker and longer than she expected, but she didn't bat an eye or make a big deal about it taking a full 3.5 hours. She put in lovely curls at the end and gave me a movie star look. Getting your hair colored here is not cheap, but it is worth it for beautiful blonde. I paid $265 for partial balayage + tip, and am very happy with the result. read more

Awful.... Went in for a balayage and a haircut and left with lovely orangish roots and a line about a half-inch away from my scalp where the dye obviously didn't process. To top it off the dye completed fried my hair. The guy doing the cut had to tear through it after the color and I could literally hear my hair ripping. Awful... I did return about a week later to "fix" the dye job but my roots were still orange and brassy. (And my hair was still fried). The only redeeming quality is that they didn't charge me for the "adjustment". I won't be back. read more

Service was great, and the hairdressers kept things light and conversational. With that said, I don't recommend this salon for people with curlier or wavy hair. Both times I went, I had a different hairdresser who both straightened my hair without asking after the cut. I felt disappointed and left even more clueless than when I entered, with what to do with my hair from now on. I recommend in the future to ask before straightening someone's hair. And to my wavy-hair friends, I recommend looking for a hairdresser for curlier hair types. I've had better haircuts for a lot less :( read more

I was unhappy with my original hair cut/style. Especially because I brought in a picture of what I wanted. My stylist offered to fix it but again I was not happy with the result, and think some damage was done to my hair. The reason I thought more than one star was appropriate is because even though I am not confident in her abilities, she did schedule two more appointments for me to come in and make changes to my hair. Also the owner contacted me personally to let me know she wanted to do what she could to try to help fix my hair. I have been going to Keter since 2002, and always found past stylists very capable and was very happy with my results. I will not be returning after this visit. read more

The staff is professional, kind, and helpful, and I always feel so relaxed and attended to during my appointments. Linda K. does my hair and I am hesitant to ever let anyone else cut my hair again... she's that good. Especially if you have wavy/curly combo hair - she knows how to cut your hair without messing with the complicated and non-conforming texture of my hair (which has loose waves AND tight curls... lol). I've been holding off on the review so I could do all you Yelp readers a solid and after 3x, I can fairly say Keter is legit. First off, let us give credit where credit is due: Rachel up in 'da house. Girl is on point with her style game so just by being around her you immediately earn a few notches. I have a ton of thick, heavy hair and she does a great job wrangling it in. We messed with bayalage, bangs and going back to my roots/au natural and she's a pro at it all. She respects what you're going for and inputs a little of her expertise for an end result that works beautifully (if I do say so myself). She's also rad ::girl crush::. The salon: bright, airy, super clean and well organized. Chicas at the front desk are always super nice on the phone and during the whole process. Prices: Solid and comparable to the $$ salons. I've been a fan of senior stylist, Kiki for years, and I didn't even know it! While searching for a new stylist, I'd been meaning to ask the lovely Tiffinie T. who trusts her amazing tresses to Senior Stylist, Kiki. Tiffinie said there is no one else who can ply the art of hairdressing like Kiki - who is 3rd generation, and truly passionate about her craft. Now, normally, I don't trust flaming heteros with my rebellious, coarse, stick-straight, flat black (not shiny and glossy) hair. But Tiffinie assured me in a conversation and in her fantastic reviews that Kiki is a miracle worker. Pass me the Kool-Aid, I'm in! Childrens, my schedule is wonky, so when I called to make an appointment with this miracle-worker, they didn't have anything open, and I had some events coming up for which straggly, split ends and 2" of roots were strictly forbidden. Tiffinie T. to the rescue and let me in on a leeeeetle secret - the salon was conducting a staff Master Class training session and needed hair models. I rushed over at the appointed day, and signed up. I did have to commit to being in the chair for up to 3 hours, but (a) it worked with my schedule; (b) I got one of the most in-demand stylist and (c) it cost me zero American dollars. I really liked Kiki, and wanted her to get the most out of the class, because she was learning extremely advanced techniques from former Master Instructor for Vidal Sassoon. So, I walked in with hair down to the middle of my back, and left with an incredible, asymmetrical precision cut bob It felt and looked great, though I prefer my hair to have a sort of "just rolled out of bed but still looks hot" quality to it. Absolutely NO complaints - I highly recommend Kiki in particular - I've since seen her for two subsequent cuts and color. She actually called and offered me a spot in a coloring Master Class (read: free) but I had a scheduling conflict. I let the precision cut grow out, and then we put some texture into it... I've kept the asymmetrical aspect, added some color panels and got bangs the last time. Love. The salon has a great vibe, a sister location just a few blocks away, and getting your bangs trimmed is a service provided gratis for existing clients. Free! But who wouldn't want to throw a good karma into a tip envelope for such a wonderfully generous service? Last visit, a client happened to be in the area, and walked in - she was accommodated with a smile for her bang trim. I love and respect he top-notch talent, service and skill at Keter. Pre-book your next service, and you are automatically entered to win a product prize or something. The Hollidaze approacheth, Childrens, so get thee to Kiki, ASAP! She works on the weekends - Sunday mornings - for all you hair heathens - and it's just nice not have to worry about rushing during the week. Five stars for every single experience. Artist: Anita Albini Anita's talent with my straggly, thin, sparse hair continues to amaze me. She is able to give me the volume I've been trying to achieve for years, give me a darling cut that makes my round face look far thinner than it actually is, and the color combinations make my pale skin sing (instead of blend into blah like it does with my "natural" color). I would like to admit my own fault in this story - during the process I did not stand up for what I wanted. Many reasons why, but mainly because I am so tired of being treated like I fool by hairdressers & accepting I am getting yet another shit haircut because stylists don't listen and cookie cutter book appointments I spent many weeks searching for a studio and a stylist who was willing and capable to dry cut my hair. I contacted Keeter online and made by requirement known. When they called to follow up and schedule the appointment I again repeated my need for a dry cut - it was confirmed as doable with the chosen senior stylist (owner actually). When I arrived I was warmly welcomed and told my stylist was running late; by the time I sat down, it was 15 minutes into my scheduled appointment -ALARM BELL 1. The stylist and I chatted about options and decided, due to quirks of my hair, short was best. It was here I was also told she was running late and needed to wash my hair to speed up my cut - ALARM BELL 2. I was already let down by now so gave up and went with flow - certainly would not have if I had known I would charged for the experience! Back to stylist and out comes razor to, as informed by stylist, speed up the cut - ALARM BELL 3 I sat through the cut not really liking what I saw, but requested a few changes that I could tell would be an issue later. Rushed out the door as the next client was present, then charged for a service I did not want. I decided to wait many weeks before writing this review, hoping my style would settle - but I hate it and wear a hat to hide it There are random long pieces, and short pieces; and because it was done wet, does not take advantage of my natural weird hair I was up front with what I needed I know my hair; I know what works I hate being railroaded by stylists who booked to only allowed an hour for each client - especially when one runs late If you need something out of the ordinary - don't go here read more

My hair is silver white naturally, and I wanted it very light blond, or as Jordan suggested "the inside color of a banana"! I've been here for cuts and color several times, and highly recommend the salon. They're friendly and professional, and I've never left disappointed. Upon arriving, I'm always greeted warmly and offered tea. Their seating area is nice, and it's rare that you're left waiting for long. They have different stylists for cuts vs color, which I appreciate. I go more often for cuts than color, and always go to Sam. He's meticulous with the scissors, and does a phenomenal job with my thin hair. I give him an idea of what I'd like, and trust him completely. It's $75 + tip for a cut with him, which always seems expensive when I'm booking, but I can promise its well worth it for such a high quality cut. I haven't colored my hair in awhile, but if I wanted to do something edgy or complicated, this would totally be the place I would trust. They're all just really creative and talented. I was lucky enough to snag a same-day appointment for cut and balayage with Jo-Anna, and am absolutely thrilled with the services I received. Jo-Anna spent at least 10-15 minutes talking with me, looking at my hair, listening to what I wanted, what I didn't want, and what has worked and not worked for me in the past, and looking at some photos of what was looking for. She was honest and thoughtful, and through every step of the process she took time to explain what she was doing and why, and to make sure I liked where we were going. I was nervous to color my hair for the first time in almost a decade but again, Jo-Anna made me feel comfortable and confident that I'd get what I wanted, and she delivered. I have two small kids and very little time to spend on my hair, so she took that into account when she blow dried my hair at the end, showing me how my new cut could look great with just a simple blow dry (no brush needed!), but she then took a few extra minutes with a curling iron to give me a little more style which still looks amazing the next day. I went to Keter Salon last August after responding to a Craigslist post looking for colour models. I met Jordan, who was training as a colorist at the time, and told her that I wanted to go full blonde. She was extremely hesitant because I had really healthy hair, so we compromised and agreed on lots of blonde highlights instead. Since she wasn't expecting such a big job, she scheduled another appointment with me the following week so we'd have ample time to bleach my massive amounts of hair. I think I sat in that salon chair for a good 5-6 hours, but Jordan was extremely patient and focused on what she was doing. I had a LOT of highlights put in, and her supervisor came by every so often to make sure things were on track. We didn't talk too much because I'm boring and I could tell Jordan was really concentrating on my hair, but I think the wait was worthwhile! The colour came out great, and I was dirty blonde for a semester. Even though I still don't really like how highlights look, my friends thought my hair turned out really well (and that I looked like an Asian JLo). I had the option of going back after 6-8 weeks to put in more highlights so I could get closer to a full head of blonde, but I started dying my hair red on my own instead. The price was really reasonable (it came to about $125-150), considering how much product, time, and effort was put in. Jordan was a sweetheart and paid attention to what I wanted, while also trying to minimize the damage to my hair. My hair was completely fine and healthy afterwards. She even sent me a thank you note in the mail! I don't know if Jordan is still at Keter Salon, but I'll definitely look for her the next time I need something crazy done. The salon itself is really modern, spacious, and comfortable. It's located on 4th Street so you can expect it to be classy and upscale. The staff was pretty nice, and I think they found it amusing that Jordan got stuck with a stubborn client like me. read more

She immediately had a balayage game plan upon my arrival and stressed how important customer service is to her so she was so happy to make me happy. She cooled down my very warm, brassy, unwanted balayage and really lightened the color up-- she certainly gave me what I initially wanted!!! I very much enjoyed chatting with Sasha, she has such a positive vibe about her. She's such a gem, I am truly a fan. Been going to the same hair stylist for the last 11 years but she kept moving and is now located in Fremont. How the heck will I go there every 2-3 months? Luckily I met Sasha at Ride Oakland and after finding out that she does hair, and of course she looks gorgeous, I decided to give her a try. I came out of the salon looking FAB and feeling great. Love my new hair color and trim. People at work loved my hair! I got so many compliments. Thank goodness for Ride, where I got to meet Sasha. Thank you Sasha! See you again at Keter or at RIDE. I will definitely be a regular. The salon itself, is clean, chic and I felt very welcomed. Everyone was very friendly and the owner has a very cute poodle that goes around the salon. So if you don't like dogs or allergic to it, might want to check with them first before coming in. But for all the dog lovers like me, come and check this place out. My first visit to Keter was great! I think I found my go-to place in the Bay. :) I've been wanting to find a salon I can go to now that I won't be going to my usual place down in socal where my parents live. I've been a little hesitant because I've never explored salons outside of the one I go to! I called and got an appointment on the day I preferred--no problem! I was unsure if I wanted coloring, but Sophie (I think I recall her name being?) on the phone said it would be no problem to come in and make the decision then, depending on my stylist's availability for the day. I walked in a couple minutes late to my 11am appointment on a Thursday--no problem! Receptionist checked me in, and asked if I wanted anything to drink--super accomodating. Letty was my stylist--and she was great! I showed her a couple pictures of what I kind of wanted my hair to look like (long bob-ish) and we both agreed if it came to it we could go ahead and color it if I wanted to at the moment! I was hesitant to cut my hair short, as the last time I cut it above the shoulders/shoulder length was when I was in 3rd or 4th grade!!! In addition, I asked about bayalage and she was very informative in terms of difference with other coloring methods, timing, and pricing :) Overall, Letty was great to work with--she listened to my worries and what I was looking for and delivered! I ended up getting a bayalage in addition to my cut, and she helped me pick which color to go with! The end result is one I am IN LOVE with. Only after 3 days, I have received several comments on both the cut and the color (who doesn't love compliments especially with a new style you've never rocked before?!) Found this spot and wanted a last minute haircut and got Nick and he did a really good job. Made some good recommendations on my haircut and delivered a really nice cut which even my mom approved of (and she often doesn't like the haircuts I get).
