Mayra has done a wonderful job helping me maintain a professional appearance during Covid and the long months when the salon was closed for services. She asked me a number of thoughtful questions to suggest just the right products to help me take care of my hair when I couldn't get it professionally styled. I have now been to the salon twice during the pandemic. I am careful about my exposure and felt very safe with the precautions taken by the salon. Mayra listened carefully to what I wanted for my balayage and cut, paid attention to all the details, and did an amazing job. Roxy is amazing. Backstory: I hate paying for haircuts. Yea, I know, you pay for what you get. But I've had $100 haircuts that I have left feeling disappointed while my Los Angeles hairdresser charged me $35 for a decent dry cut (my hair a long rounded cut, nothing fancy). When I moved up to Oakland, my first haircut here was a disaster that it traumatized me. I bought a pair of shears and decided to just trim my own hair. That worked for a bit, but after 18 months, my hair was getting out of control, so I decided to suck it up and pay for nice salon. I chose Keter for it's stellar Yelp reviews. You did not do me wrong Yelpers. I had the best experience here with Roxy. I am very protective of my long hair and hairdressers make me more nervous than dentists. But I also wanted an undercut (shaving off 2 inches of nape-hair is the most drastic thing I've done to my hair...ever). Roxy was so patient and knowledgable and made sure to check with me every step of the way. She ended up spending at least an extra half hour more than my allotted appointment, but never made me feel rushed. She wanted to make sure that she got my hair just right. I walked out of that salon feeling amazing. It's not a cheap hair-cut, but it's certainly reasonable given the time and attention, so I felt it was definitely money well spent. Everyone at Keter seems to really care about their customers and committed to making sure they have the best experience possible. Bonus: the hair wash was phenomenal. I love this salon! It is so difficult to find a talented and reasonably priced hair salon here in the bay. I have tried many and this is, by far, the best. It's tough to rate the salon as I feel it depends on the stylist you receive so I'll separate the two. Salon: - Pretty easy to call and make appointments. They usually have receptionist staffed. If not, they actually return voicemails. - Salon is always clean. They clean up immediately after. I love it. - Shampoo bowls are comfortable af. I have a horrid time in shampoo bowls are my head is rather large lmao but I can (and have) napped mid shampoo and head massage. Stylist (Stephanie): - THE best. - Always on time. - Always friendly. - Remembers our conversations even though I don't go very often. - The only stylist I have met that understands what I want (balayage on dark hair that is blended and cool based) - Great appointment availability (Sunday and a weekday evening are wins!) - She gives me a rundown of all products used but never push for sales. - Dyson hair dryer (this matters with thick af hair) Love this place! read more

Booking an appointment over the phone was easy and the woman I spoke with was nice in helping me decide what kind of coloring style I actually wanted. Came in to get a balayage done hoping to eventually get it to an ashy tone. I was already aware going in that I will definitely need more than one session since my hair was dark brown. Heidi was awesome! She really listened to me and understood what I wanted to do with my hair. She was so friendly and easy to talk to. She was gentle and really made me feel like I was getting the right treatment. Even though it took longer than expected for me to sit under the heat lamps and went over her next appointment, she didn't make me feel like she was rushing or that I was taking up her time. I can not say enough great things about this salon and Jessica specifically who gave me a beautiful balayage over a brassy balayage done somewhere else that I was not so happy about. She put in cool tones and made my hair the beachy look I was hoping for. My hair was much thicker and longer than she expected, but she didn't bat an eye or make a big deal about it taking a full 3.5 hours. She put in lovely curls at the end and gave me a movie star look. Getting your hair colored here is not cheap, but it is worth it for beautiful blonde. I paid $265 for partial balayage + tip, and am very happy with the result. read more

Awful.... Went in for a balayage and a haircut and left with lovely orangish roots and a line about a half-inch away from my scalp where the dye obviously didn't process. To top it off the dye completed fried my hair. The guy doing the cut had to tear through it after the color and I could literally hear my hair ripping. Awful... I did return about a week later to "fix" the dye job but my roots were still orange and brassy. (And my hair was still fried). The only redeeming quality is that they didn't charge me for the "adjustment". I won't be back. read more

Service was great, and the hairdressers kept things light and conversational. With that said, I don't recommend this salon for people with curlier or wavy hair. Both times I went, I had a different hairdresser who both straightened my hair without asking after the cut. I felt disappointed and left even more clueless than when I entered, with what to do with my hair from now on. I recommend in the future to ask before straightening someone's hair. And to my wavy-hair friends, I recommend looking for a hairdresser for curlier hair types. I've had better haircuts for a lot less :( read more

I was unhappy with my original hair cut/style. Especially because I brought in a picture of what I wanted. My stylist offered to fix it but again I was not happy with the result, and think some damage was done to my hair. The reason I thought more than one star was appropriate is because even though I am not confident in her abilities, she did schedule two more appointments for me to come in and make changes to my hair. Also the owner contacted me personally to let me know she wanted to do what she could to try to help fix my hair. I have been going to Keter since 2002, and always found past stylists very capable and was very happy with my results. I will not be returning after this visit. read more

I've been going to Keter for the past two-three years and it is the best salon I've found in the East Bay! The staff is professional, kind, and helpful, and I always feel so relaxed and attended to during my appointments. Linda K. does my hair and I am hesitant to ever let anyone else cut my hair again... she's that good. Especially if you have wavy/curly combo hair - she knows how to cut your hair without messing with the complicated and non-conforming texture of my hair (which has loose waves AND tight curls... lol). My hair is silver white naturally, and I wanted it very light blond, or as Jordan suggested "the inside color of a banana"! I was lucky enough to snag a same-day appointment for cut and balayage with Jo-Anna, and am absolutely thrilled with the services I received. Jo-Anna spent at least 10-15 minutes talking with me, looking at my hair, listening to what I wanted, what I didn't want, and what has worked and not worked for me in the past, and looking at some photos of what was looking for. She was honest and thoughtful, and through every step of the process she took time to explain what she was doing and why, and to make sure I liked where we were going. I was nervous to color my hair for the first time in almost a decade but again, Jo-Anna made me feel comfortable and confident that I'd get what I wanted, and she delivered. I have two small kids and very little time to spend on my hair, so she took that into account when she blow dried my hair at the end, showing me how my new cut could look great with just a simple blow dry (no brush needed!), but she then took a few extra minutes with a curling iron to give me a little more style which still looks amazing the next day. Been going to the same hair stylist for the last 11 years but she kept moving and is now located in Fremont. How the heck will I go there every 2-3 months? Luckily I met Sasha at Ride Oakland and after finding out that she does hair, and of course she looks gorgeous, I decided to give her a try. I came out of the salon looking FAB and feeling great. Love my new hair color and trim. People at work loved my hair! I got so many compliments. Thank goodness for Ride, where I got to meet Sasha. Thank you Sasha! See you again at Keter or at RIDE. I will definitely be a regular. The salon itself, is clean, chic and I felt very welcomed. Everyone was very friendly and the owner has a very cute poodle that goes around the salon. I got a haircut about a month ago and I had booked the 15 minute consultation and he did not give it to me. I wanted curtain bangs and he cut off a huge chunk of my hair and the sides of my hair. When I put my hair up it sticks out. He cut a part that you shouldn't. My hair is so bad now I definitely do not recommend. Maybe he does a better job with other people but definitely not me. It definitely depends who you go to in this salon. Also super expensive. read more

Just from what I learned: 1- You can not be late not even by 5 mins as they will charge you the full price without the service. 2- Parking is not easy to find so plan head. 3- Avivian she fixed my hair cut from another hair coworker ( I do not remember the name) my hair cut was awesome but I would not recommend her for hair for color. 4- I was directed to the wrong hair shampoo and conditioner, I was told I can swap it for the correct one. 5- Nelly can do a good color job. I've been coming to Keter for about three years now, getting cuts from Sam and color with Jordan. They are really a rockstar hairstyling couple! Sam has been so great helping me figure out short hair (after 22 years of keeping it long), from asymmetrical cuts and tousled shoulder-length to blunt razor bobs. I went down the rabbit hole of bleaching and coloring at home, but when I came back out and decided to start caring for my hair health and color professionally, Jordan was super helpful getting me back on track with a shiny, vibrant beautiful color and good product recommendations. While I've been getting great cuts and service here for years, my most recent visit is what pushed me to write this review. About a week ago I decided I really wanted a pixie cut, so I called up Keter and asked if anyone there specialized in this style. The receptionist booked me for a next-day appointment with Anita, and I'm so glad she did. I have never been so stoked on a haircut in my entire life. Despite the fact that I accidentally booked a too-short appointment (oops), Anita took her time getting to know my hair. She went slow with the shears, pausing occasionally to feel around and comb it every which way. I showed her some inspiration photos and she immediately understood what I was going for, but also took queues from my own hair: "I can see from your last cut that you like more volume on the top. Do you want to continue that?" (testament to both her and Sam's proficiency, considering it hadn't been cut in months). Anita is clearly very at home working with short hair, and had no reservations playing around with it. She handled my multiple cowlicks like a champ. For reference, I once had a stylist (not at Keter) start cutting my hair without even re-parting it. That NEVER would have happened with Anita. In addition to a great cut, Anita gave me some much-appreciated advice on products and how to use them, and even took the time to style my hair a couple different ways to give me an idea of the versatility. The whole time I felt comfortable, cared for and totally at ease. I love it so much, I'll be updating my yelp picture for the first time since I made an account. I've been holding off on the review so I could do all you Yelp readers a solid and after 3x, I can fairly say Keter is legit. First off, let us give credit where credit is due: Rachel up in 'da house. Girl is on point with her style game so just by being around her you immediately earn a few notches. I have a ton of thick, heavy hair and she does a great job wrangling it in. We messed with bayalage, bangs and going back to my roots/au natural and she's a pro at it all. She respects what you're going for and inputs a little of her expertise for an end result that works beautifully (if I do say so myself). She's also rad ::girl crush::. The salon: bright, airy, super clean and well organized. Chicas at the front desk are always super nice on the phone and during the whole process. Prices: Solid and comparable to the $$ salons.
