This was my second visit to Keter but my first haircut with Tony---I had decided, since the salon was new, to try a few people out. Looks like I don't want to try anyone else though. I have very fine hair. Tony understands this can be challenging but knew just what to do to give my hair body and lift. More than a month later the cut is holding up. Just got an extraordinary haircut from Tony, who is lovely to talk to and so talented. Sixty bucks is the least I've paid for a cut in maybe twenty years, and yet this is the best my hair has looked. You know how you might like a cut when you walk out of the salon, but then once you get home and really look at it the magic is gone? Like, really, really gone? This cut looks good every day. I worked down the street from Keter Salon for years, and saw almost everyone that worked at Keter in my place of business several times a week. What a lovely, sweet group of people. I started getting my hair cut by Anita over 5 years ago when she was finishing her training, and from the beginning, I always felt like a million dollars when I walked out the door. She has an artistic flair and a real talent for designing one's hair to flatter the face. She always discussed with me what she thought might be the best ideas and as I trust her completely, I think I always went with her vision. Every time I got my hair cut by her, I received many compliments for months, and people usually asked where I got my hair done. Anita understood that I was not one to spend much time doing my hair in the morning, and yet it still looked fabulous. I have coarse, curly/wavy hair that she cut in such ways that all I needed to do after towel-drying my hair was put a little B&B styling creme in and go. I can't express how much I miss having her nearby to let me know when I was due for a trim. I moved to MN 6 months ago and I haven't let anyone touch my hair since. So I like to write reviews much after the haircut to see if it grows out well and things of that sort. I went in as a model for Sam. They were really awesome about getting me an appointment pretty soon after I initially called them. And even though I was a model (ie I was getting a practically free haircut) they treated me like any other full paying customer. The haircut took a while- about 2 hours as expected. Some of the things I talked about during my consultation: I mentioned that I straighten my hair on a daily basis- my hair ended up looking awful when straightened which was ironic. HOWEVER! It looked fabulous when not straighted given I put in the "right products" like frizz ease and such or french braided it before sleeping and added mousse. I mentioned that I wanted all my split ends and dead ends to be trimmed off and such- two months later I had the same number of split ends. Unfortunately I think this has to do with the way my hair was cut- shears were used. It was enough to the point where I went in for another haircut (ie I ended up with the same amount of split ends after 2 months using the same products after this haircut compared 1 year of growing my hair out). This was the killer part. :( I have hair that flips at the ends and wanted to get rid of this and I hated this when I was straightening my hair but sans straightening I have that "sex" hair. Ended up with beautiful bangs. Sam definitely spent alot of time on consultation listening to my comments. The execution was completely contrary to what I had initially hoped- no split ends and no flipping hair- though I did give him free range over what to do with my hair- so maybe this was the intention. I kind of feel like it was merely a fluke that I ended up with great LOOKING hair but for my hair to be 2 months later be in worse condition than before makes me sad. I might come back but only after my hair is much more grown out and can stand to be cut every 2 months- but I want long healthy hair first so in the mean time- just working on growing it out healthily. Forgot to add: no product pushing which is a BIG PLUS in my book. read more

The first two times I went here I paid around $60 for a good trim cut. My hair is fine and straight and I don't do any color or fancy cut so it's usually the absolute cheapest price for a cut at any salon. I went in today and was told to pay $80 for the exact same thing I got the past two times. I don't plan on returning to a place that just makes up their prices as they go along. I was impressed with my hairstylist and colorist, albeit, what really bothers me is that I was told that the Brazilian Blowout hair straightening treatment was "just keratin" and was "totally toxic free." But I had my doubts, when during the process I could smell an intense chemical cocktail and it burned my eyes, which to any person would trigger them to doubt toxic-free claims. Yes, I was extremely happy to finally have nice, shiny, smooth straight hair, but at what cost. Now, after consumer rights investigations, it is clear that the product uses methylene glycol, which when water evaporates from it produces formaldehyde. At what cost do we beautify. It is possible to be honest about beauty products and expect as consumers that when we pay $350 for such a treatment that we know the health risks involved. You would have to be an aloof idiot not to have smelled the death odors produced by this treatment. I feel disappointed and sad that you can't even trust beauty professionals. I have not been to Keter Salon, but my amazing hairdresser Tifani is a stylist there now. Tifani cut and colored my hair for many, many years back in Oregon, and I'm so sad she moved to Berkeley. My hair misses her a lot. I'm never good at explaining what I want in a cut and color, but Tifani was great at figuring out what I wanted (even when I didn't know). I have long, wavy hair, and Tifani's cuts always allowed me to wear it straight or curly. She rocks! read more

I was a long time customer here ( 10 years) but won't go back any more. The owner let me leave the salon ( on multiple occasions) with really bad hair. The cut was ok, if you could get an appointment and are willing shell out $120+ for a haircut, but she would do little to nothing to style it decently before I left. This is meant to be a review of Yesenia Guinea, who I originally found at Keter but now has a chair at Smoke and Mirrors in San Francisco. I will follow that lady to the ends of the earth! She is sweet, funny, polite and real and has given me the best haircuts I've ever had. She knows when to give you what you're asking for and when to push you to try something new. She has never let me down. We might chat nonstop for the whole visit, or if I'm feeling tired and faded she'll let me just space out and be nonverbal. It was my first time at Keter Salon and I had a great experience with Heidi. I came in for a balayage, and Heidi listened to what I wanted, and asked a lot of questions to understand me, what I wanted, and how my hair reacts to coloring. My hair is very hard to color, and you never really know how it's going to come out. After she was done, I really liked it, however I couldn't quite put into words what was slightly off. Heidi understood immediately - and suggested to do a slight alteration, and asked me to come back in later that day because she wanted me to be 100% happy. She really didn't have to do that and spend extra time with me - she could have just let me go, feeling satisfied (with something off) - since I did tell her I liked it already. After I came back in, she toned down the top (which colored faster than we thought), and then brightened other spots (which colored slower than we thought) - and I ended up 100% happy and satisfied. The fact that she really cared that I was fully and completely happy mattered a lot to me. I'm definitely coming back! read more

Earlier this year I was looking for a make up artist for my wedding and I was fortunate to receive a recommendation from my esthetician on a girl who's Instagram page she followed regularly for make up tips, Rachel! I contacted Rachel via email and received a response right away. She was very polite, helpful, flexible with her schedule and attentive to my needs. We had one trial run a few weeks prior to the wedding at which time we decided to try hair and make up. I was impressed with her skill and attention to detail. Although we had to make a few changes the trial was successful. The day of my wedding I couldn't have been more pleased. Rachel mastered my make up flawlessly and my hair was done without "looking done up!" I received numerous compliments on my beautiful make up. I have had long unruly hair for several years now and decided I wanted to chop it all off to a long bob. I was pretty nervous about this, since I've had disappointing short haircuts before, but I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. I booked an appointment for a cut (with Sam) and balayage (with Jordan). I brought in several photos and both of them spent a long time with me beforehand to get a clear idea of exactly what I wanted. The whole process felt very collaborative, which I appreciated. Sam made my new cut look even better than I had imagined it would, and I love it so much that I'm pretty sure I will never go back to long hair! Jordan (who is married to Sam, they met while learning to cut hair, how cute is that?!) then did my balayage, and the color came out beautiful, not brassy at all. It brightened up my already blonde hair without looking too dramatic which is exactly what I wanted. Also, both Jordan and Sam were wonderful interpersonally, and so fun to talk to. Had a wonderful experience getting my hair colored by Tracy. For some reason colorists frequently end up turning my hair black. Not at Keter. The shade is terrific. Also the salon was VERY well ventilated - again, much appreciated as I've been to pricey salons where no windows open and the door is down the stairs. I was in Berkeley on business one day and ended up at Keter by accident, in Sam's chair. I really didn't even have to tell him much, it just seemed like he already knew what to do. He was quick, efficient, and he did my fade by hand. I was blown away, since everyone I've ever gone to would use electric clippers. I have curly hair and all the self-absorption that comes with it. Three years ago or so, I decided to find a stylist who could really cut curly hair. I posted on Craigslist for recommendations, and that's how I met Wayne and came to Keter. Every cut has been an improvement over the last. At first, I was very "in control" and Wayne only did what I asked-- my requests mostly started with "don't...". After a while, I branched out and asked if he could get my hair to fall around my face in a more flattering way w/o chopping up or frizzing the corkscrew curls. He did and I loved it! Then I brought in pictures of curly cuts that I liked and asked if he could get my hair to do the same. He did it and it was perfect! Hands-down the best hair cut I've ever received. It looks really great in its natural curl; takes awesome to a curling iron kind of style; and blows out for a completely different look. I've never loved my hair this much! I'm sure he's also good with straight hair, but seriously, he's a genius with my curly hair. I'm still in there to see Wayne every 3-4 months, even though I lost my job. He's worth it! I'm a picky hair person and I've got a lot of thick, curly, unruly hair. I've had some bad haircuts even at really expensive places but Yesenia always turns out something that looks great dressed up or down, mod and cool but that I still wear into business meetings. She's super-detail oriented and will take all the time it takes to get the cut perfect, and she's very responsive to what you want. I'm not really into chemicals, but she did a relaxer and it turned out sweet. Everyone else at Keter is really friendly. I just got my hair cut and colored last week, and am totally in love with it! Diana never disappoints, and I walked out of the salon feeling lighter and way cuter, with a new short haircut and awesome color! My "ritual" is to have my brows done at Benefit immediately following my haircut, and every time I go there, they are all over me about my hair!! They love it, and I am always proud to say, "I just had it done by Diana at Keter!" Wayne has been doing my hair for the last 4 years. He is super awesome and serious about hair. He isn't the type of stylist that will talk your head off, he is much more focused on making sure you get the cut you want and he always does a fantastic job - no matter how long it takes. I've gone to a lot of very expensive stylists that talked a great game but didn't hear a word I've said about what I want. I went to Keter Salon for a hair trim with Sasha. She was friendly and good about cutting most of my hair, that is, except when it came to my bangs. I had spent about a year and half growing out my bangs but I decided to be adventurous and ask her to cut them again. The result left me very much unsatisfied and frustrated. They were cut too short and thinned out way too much. My hair immediately rejected it, sticking up like a broomstick. Moreover, the pieces on the sides were cut much shorter than the center. The bangs looked very odd and I asked her to fix them three times, but each time, they just kept looking funkier and funkier. She had good intentions obviously, but the end result was definitely not what I wanted. Now I have to wait a month until they grow back which we all know is frustrating and tedious read more

I have been going to Keter for over a year now, but today was my first time getting my color done by Jordan. She is one of their 'color experts' and did an AMAZING job!!! I am naturally a light brunette, but highlight (balyage to be exact) my hair to make it lighter. OMG! Aviva hooked my hair up! I went back to her today and wanted some major changes to my long, heavy, weighed-down hair that I always tie back. I told her during our consultation that I kinda wanted a "big girl" haircut--meaning, more mature, more va-va-voom and something different than I'm used too. I showed her a picture of one of my friend's hairstyles that I loved, and she went to work! She gave me bangs, layered-up my hair with a razor and was still able to leave some length, and just freakin' did an AWESOME job! Diana has been doing my hair for years and she has always emphasize style with healthy hair. I have never loved my hair more and receive lots of compliments from friends/peers. I love getting my hair shampoo'ed its so relaxing I could fall asleep in the chair. The front desk is so warm and pleasant, makes everyone feel so comfortable and valued. I have recently gotten the Keratin treatment and with my demanding work schedule it has made my hair manageable, easy and gorgeous (life changing not spending hours doing my hair). Last Tuesday was my first time at Keter salon and i really loved the ambiance, my main reason to check out Keter was to see my favorite stylist in the Bay Area, Tifani. I went in for a trim because my long hair had some significant dead ends. Tifani suggested that maybe I take a little more than a couple of inches off since I had a lot of dead hair and I agreed, knowing I would be doing good things for my hair and that it would grow out. I was so very pleased that I did follow her creative suggestions. My hair looks amazingly healthy, super thick and the layers add a lovely bounce.
