The food is delicious and there is no fault with it. It's the blatant and unforgivable greedy price-gouging that is insufferable. Generous lunchtime clamshell curry and rice dishes in the park started at €5. Within two years that climbed stealthily to over €10. One of those was sag paneer which was swapped out for the cheaper-to-make sag aloo with potatoes instead of cheese.
Tonight after a long day with no lunch I stopped in for the €10 curry. I ask if I can sit at the table in the window. I see on the menu my curry is €11.50 and I think, 'ok, I'm sitting in so that's a fair mark up.' I'm starving. It's 6:30pm on a Friday evening and I've had no lunch. After ten minutes I'm asked what I'm waiting for. I said I want to order. 5 minutes later a waiter comes out and tells me that this table in the window with two chairs is for people waiting for orders to-go (even though there are lots of seats and benches for that purpose). He asked me if I would follow him into the restaurant. I am alone in the room with many well dressed tables. He comes to take my order. I ask for the Kerala Coconut (their signature dish). He asks if I want any sides; I said no the rice will be enough. He says, rice is not included, it's just the sauce. I check the menu to see and the price is now €15.50 for the curry I got in the park for €5 and rice is a few euro extra. I was so angry (maybe hungry and angry) that I stood up and said "I'm not looking to have a €25 meal. I just wanted a curry and rice dish but now I'm feeling really exploited and I'm very disappointed." It IS great food but I'm sick of being bamboozled. I am taking my business elsewhere and I'm taking my friends with me. So mad at this shameful display of greed. It's simply not necessary to treat your loyal customers of ten years with such contempt. read more
