We recently enjoyed a lunch here. Lobster Rolls and chowder. Waitstaff was good and so was atmosphere. Pricy though ...

Fish and chips after digging into the fries...

The Host and outstanding waiter Mike made this an enjoyable meal! That said, the food was a departure from our old memories of the Tavern. The Calamari tasted great, but the membranes were not removed from the rings.... The haddock chowder tasted good, but was absent any significant pieces of fish, and finally, the fish and chips consisted of 5 small thin tail sections unfit for entree portions. An easy fix as the location, atmosphere and staff make this a great place to visit!

Stopped in for lunch for the first time and so happy I did! This place is packed during the summer and was fortunate it is open during the offseason, so I took advantage. They've got quite a bit going on such as special events throughout the winter as well as a fantastic Sunday brunch I'll be back to enjoy. Service was great and so was the conversation from my bartender. Be sure to stop by and take advantage of this gem!

Came here for some apps and drinks. Good clam chowder and amazing spinach salad with blueberries and strawberries. Sat at the bar for a few drinks and Tate the bartender was great! It was around 8:15 and as you know everything in Maine closes early and we did not feel rushed at all and they close at 9. Nice, warm and cozy place, we'll be back!

Special - Scallops on Potato Pancakes with Seaweed Salad

My husband chose here for our 43rd anniversary, and it was OK. I had heard that they had flooding issues recently and there was some water damage around the windows, but the rest of the restaurant was in very good shape and looked very nice. The nautical theme was not overdone. The Clam Chowder was very tasty and creamy. My husband liked the Haddock Chowder. The host and server were both very nice and helpful. The entrees were disappointing, especially given $30 each! My steak was well cooked and seasoned just, but putting a rib eye steak fried in butter on top of sauted spinach just adds grease to grease. The fries were cold, not crisp, and had very little parmesan. My husband said the potato cakes were OK, but I thought they were very under seasoned. His scallops were overcooked, and the seaweed salad was very spicy. I certainly could have done without the loud and active drunk at the bar. All in all, we will probably not go back.

Ok I was a little apprehensive due to several comments and the low rating but I'm up for a little risk taking and I am so glad I am cause best chicken sandwich I've had in awhile and by far ask for a side of the Sriracha ranch sauce to eat with everything holy cow so good!!! Wife got the fish pockets and by far a ton of food for the price, she couldn't finish it!! Also couldn't keep her out of my sriracha ranch dipping sauce!! Definitely will be coming back and yes you can see they are still doing some workto the flooding recently but everything was clean and the service was great and speedy!!

Delicious traditional lobster roll. Beautiful spot on the river. Enjoyed the breeze and spacious outdoor seating.

Haddock Rueben sandwich at the Kennebec Tavern in Bath Maine.

Nice location situated on the small marina along the historic Kennebec River in Bath Maine. Service was terrific because our friendly waitress was knowledgeable about the menu options and let us know immediately what was not available, rather than tell us after we made a menu choice. Our dinner companion ordered something I would never consider for myself. She ordered the Haddock Rueben sandwich. Yes! With sauerkraut! She loved it! We were able to enjoy dining under the patio canopy overlooking the river. Will definitely return when we are visiting Bath.

Good food, great look, nice staff.... But they tend to be a bit slow....if you are patient and not terribly hungry, you won't mind the long wait for servers to come by or to actually get your food....

A VERY generous and awesome fried haddock dinner

The lobster roll was the worst I've had. It was spoiled. I have had good meals there but not this one.

The host and server were super nice and we got a good spot overlooking the water and the oncoming boats. But that is where the good parts stopped. Take a look at the photo that I show you. I paid $35 for that crab roll that has NO flavor and the bun was stale and hard and the lobster "slider" was also something to be desired ... we later found out I could have gotten a full fledged lobster roll down the road with a buttered bun with a TON of lobster in it for $19. This was also served with a bag of chips. My wife's salad was also a basic salad because it was all she could eat on the menu (VG) We had to go back into the bar area to have them refill our water as the server really didn't ever come back to us. You had to go back into the restaurant to order the food so it had a takeout seafood shack feel to it while trying to high class it. If I go to an "on the water" restaurant and spend $50 bucks on a plate, it might be a better pick. I didn't the oysters on the half shell at the other tables and those looked great for local sourced oysters. Oh we also had a smoked pollack dip with some ritz crackers that was pretty good but over priced. I don't think we will be back here next time near bath ... will walk up the road to an ice cream shoppe with lobster rolls.

The food is consistently above average, well prepared, dependable, and the kind of meal you're genuinely happy you went out for. The menu is manageable rather than massive, which I appreciate. They know what they do well and don't hand you a small novel and ask you to make a life-altering decision before dinner. The drinks are... fine. Perfectly drinkable, but nobody needs to alert the James Beard Foundation. If cocktails are the main event for the evening, this probably isn't where you'll have a spiritual awakening. But the real magic of this place has always been the people. The wait staff somehow cross that line from "our server" to "they could be a friend," and that's something you can't put on a menu or manufacture with trendy décor. It's nice to genuinely enjoy the people taking care of you. It's locally owned, unpretentious, reliably good, and full of familiar faces. In a city with precious few places that have a personality (instead of a personality disorder) of their own, this one does.

It was still delicious and I don't mind rare steak anyway. I will say, it had an amazing crust on it and was seasoned well. The sauce also paired really nice and wasn't too heavy. The baked potato was also delicious, and they made sure to salt the skin which is bonus points. Overall, I thought it was a cute little restaurant. I liked the vibe and sort of eclectic decor. We came to this area for the first time and found this restaurant, got a reservation a couple of hours in advance. She was wonderful. I asked for a Maine Lemonade drink that I've fallen in love with since trying. They didn't have it on the drink menu, but made me something similar and it was delicious!! I had two of them. And the food was fantastic. My daughter had chicken fingers and fries (which she gave a hearty thumbs up to). My wife and I started out with a cup of the Haddock Chowder each and the sun-dried tomato focaccia bread. Both were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend, especially the bread. I had the braised beef rib which was fantastic, the sauce was so good, the brussel sprouts were so good, it was all great. My wife had the award-winning lobster roll. For some reason they don't offer it hot, but my wife likes the cold version also and she said it was fantastic, she had to bring half of it home. No room for dessert. So to sum it up: great ambiance, great service, great drinks, great food. Oh, and the prices seem very reasonable to me (especially being from NJ). So, basically a perfect dining experience!
