I was helped by James, he was a very knowledgeable, and answered all my questions with options to expand my own perspective on camera equipment that I wasn't even aware of. He was able to get me exactly what I want and they had them used, a canon EF 50mm F1.4 and a Canon 600EX-RT for $400 plus tax, much less then half what any other brick and mortar store plus comes with a 60 day warranty and he through in some extra cases they had laying around for both lens and flash. A wide selection of equipment and an even wider selection of accessories make this a go-to store for camera gear for me. Sales associates were very helpful and knowledgable. I verified my purchase against online reviews and was impressed that they didn't really oversold me. I hesitated on their recommendation of a wide angle that was twice the price of a similar model and was glad that I did because the cheaper model was considered a better lens overall in online expert reviews. All in all I got great service here and would happily go back for additional equipment needs. They were pretty busy on a Friday afternoon, but they helped us as soon as they could, they had quite a few employees and didn't leave anyone waiting long, which was great. These guys are technical experts and they are super helpful with answering questions and assisting customers on how to choose the right gear. What my girlfriend and I use the most at this shop is the photo developing lab. These guys do great job with a quick turnaround time. Now that I am a senior citizen and retired I thought I should get a newer hobby. I used to take a lot of pictures while stationed in Europe, and thought what the heck maybe I should look into a new digital camera. I liked Canon back in those days a FTB model in fact, so Canon was my first choice today. I went into Kenmore Camera and met with Niles and we discussed some options. I felt like a beginner all over again. Man have things changed. I bought a new Canon R model, and took it home to try out. I must admit that I kind of wanted something better. So off to Kenmore I went and explained what I was wanting in a camera. So after a lengthly discussion I traded the R in for an R6. This new camera required further education. Kenmore also offers a Basic Course in Photography taught by Jim Decheko. I received a free class since I bought the camera there. This class helped dust some of the cob webs out of my brain, and helped me to understand my new camera. I am loving the new old hobby again! I have also purchased three new lenses since buying the camera. I studied the internet quite a bit prior to making these purchases. I found that if you buy something off the internet good luck with customer service. I also found that a lot of the gear on the internet is made for international sales. Good luck getting Canon USA to provide a warranty for the item. The biggest thing I learned is support the local shop. Kenmore has a great sales team and they work well with you and each other to make sure you get what you want. Prices in some cases are even cheaper than the internet. Plus there is actual hands on with the item. Niles and the rest of the crew are very patient and knowledgeable in dealing with you. I have been frequenting this store for more than a decade. Great selection and knowledgeable & friendly staff. Many are really good photographers too - just ask, they will be happy to show their work. I have purchased many new and used items over time. I have seen others complain on yelp about the low prices paid for used equipment & trade-ins, and I would like to offer a different perspective. Obviously this is a brick and mortar business, they need a margin to pay rent. I have made peace with relatively low offers, because as a buyer of used equipment, I also benefit from those low prices. My workflow for cleaning out the old and procuring the new is to first check on KEH on pricing. Then I offer on Craigslist. If I cannot get things moving, I will check Kenmore Camera. I would estimate in 35% of cases I end up trading used equipment for new purchases. Trade-in values are higher than plain purchases, and then there is a sales tax credit worth considering, when you buy something else. I view my relationship with them as a whole, not based on single transactions. It's been a good relationship. read more

I went in expecting to spend a lot on a SLR body alone, then wait till I could afford the lens I desired, a lot more money. Steve M. Keene was of the most help as I could ask. He explained that what I was asking for in the way I thought I had to go would cost me an exorbitant amount of money. Not sure who has that kind of money. I showed him my current camera, a power shot sx-260, which is very impressive. Steve then turned me on to the Power Shot SX50-HS, I was very impressed with both the camera and Steve's ability to know what the customer needs. Steve grabbed me a cheap camera bag, paid the very affordable bill, and we were on our way. Have been in to Kenmore Camera numerous times over the years I have been shooting professionally, overall it is great store with good selection. Much like Glazers in Seattle, it does ultimately depend on who you get talking to on Kenmore's staff, but in comparison as a whole, it does appear that most of them are there to help and educate rather than sell which leads to a much more consistent and friendly customer service experience which is highly appreciated when shelling out thousands of dollars. They do not have quite the used selection in my experience in comparison to Glazers, but they do have great expos with big sales every year where you can find great deals on lots of new gear. Would definitely recommend stopping in if you are local and have only been to the store in Seattle, we are SUPER fortunate to have options in King County and would love to see both continue to succeed despite being competitors. I personally take my business to Kenmore much more often because of the great staff. read more

Cue "Everything is Awesome" here! My studio team and myself came here to buy lenses for our respective Nikons and Canons and we were given the utmost in camera nerd treatment. They have a great selection of both new and used equipment. Of course, we just happened to be there when their best customer of 40 years or so was dumping off a shitload of stuff. And for some reason, on a super rainy day, a ton of customers poured in right before closing time and the staff didn't make us feel like we all had to be herded out like cats. I've said this in other camera store reviews, but it is just as true for Kenmore as anywhere else: Only the good ones survive! The brick-and-mortar camera stores are an endangered species. Luckily here in Seattle we have a few good ones left. I come here for all sorts of equipment and accessories. They have all the brands you know (even the upscale brands like Leica and Hasselblad). They can handle minor repairs or sensor cleaning which is super convenient. They have great cross brand knowledge and they don't try to throw a bunch of stuff you don't need at you. They have rentals, classes and even sell film. I enjoy coming here every time...but it's hard not to walk out with new lenses each trip, lol. I really like perusing their used equipment when i'm there, they always have a few interesting finds. read more

After the local camera store I went to closed down, I had to venture out as I needed a lense. I price shop alot when buying camera equipment on the net, at different stores etc.....and they had good prices. The customer service was great!! I sold a lense, bought a new lense and got some lighting equipment. I felt that the sales guy listened to what I said, gave me both new and used options to meet my budget. He also was great in telling me about camera class options. I was very happy with this store and really the only down fall in my opinion is that it is a little off the beaten path....if closer I would probably go there more! If you are looking for a knowledgable, comfortable and kind place to shop for camera gear and printing, look no further, Kenmore Camera is the ONLY place to shop! First- I had an excellent interaction with Jack and Tyler in the printing shop. ONLY GET YOUR PRINTS HERE. Obviously being a camera store the prints came out looking EXACTLY like my edits. No need for details, but I was having a crappy and rushed day, and Jack and Tyler as well as a few other employees on Saturday 10/14/17. They helped me with my print project and went ABOVE and BEYOND any expected level of service. I was super stressed, but they didn't let my stressiness affect how they treated me, in fact, I was so appreciative of them, they made a light and kinds spot in an otherwise series of unfortunate events. Second- Ive come here many times in the past, to try out bags, look at tripods, check out lenses, but whosiwatsers and gnarlocks, and whether I was clearly researching for an upcoming purchase, or actually purchasing I was treated with the same respect. In the past at OTHER stores, because of my youthful appearance ;) I've actually not been allowed to pick up camera bodies (I was trying to decide between at 1dMarkIv or a 5dmarkii when they came out, and the sales person at at DIFFERENT store wouldn't let me hold either body and rolled his eyes at me. Anyways I have always felt like they have taken me seriously at Kenmore THIRD- while waiting for our prints, I believe the manager actually THANKED us for our business, even though at the time we were merely browsing around. I've been to Kenmore Camera twice and I can see why it has such a loyal following among photography enthusiasts. On my first visit, I attended a photography basics class, which was reasonably priced and very informative. The instructor was great and I appreciated the lack of pretentiousness - get the gear that's right for you, and use it. It was super relaxed and I felt comfortable asking questions. So, when I had questions about an old lens my dad gave me, I went back, and asked one of the salespeople. He discussed the lens, offered me some suggestions on how to resolve the issues I was having with it, and then we looked at new lens options. I'm happy with the lens but was especially happy at the lack of upsell - I'm not especially knowledgeable, and could have easily bought a couple of extras, but when I asked, the salesman told me I didn't need them. It's a nice feeling to be able to ask questions and just get the information and gear you need instead of a heavy sell - it makes you want to come back, something I look forward to. read more

I am fairly new to photography, so I am not very camera savvy, and I have a lot of questions. I purchased a private one on one hour lesson and learned a lot, very well worth the money and I'm sure I will be driving down for another lesson in the future. I called Kenmore Camera about some lighting questions and spoke with a salesperson on the phone that didn't seem at all patient and informative, and he talked to me like he was very annoyed with the fact that I didn't have a clue what I was doing, which is why I called and wanted to speak with someone directly in the first place. So if I do any mail ordering for camera gear I might choose another option, but I would certainly attend another class at Kenmore Camera. Right before a big trip to Iceland (in Aug 2019), I wanted to get a new landscape/ wide angle lens. I'm still new to using a DSLR, and I had tried to do a lot of research online about what to buy. I bought a used lens on Ebay based on that research. When I took my new used lens to my neighborhood park to try it out, my pictures were a disaster! This was about 2 days before my trip. In a panic, I called up Kenmore Camera, hoping they might be able to confirm if I had bought a lemon lens and if so, provide me another purchase option before my imminent flight. I called ahead and spoke to James. He was very friendly and offered to help me when I got to the store. I am so glad I went in and talked to James! He was so patient and helpful. I went in fully ready to buy another lens to replace the one I got on Ebay, but he checked out the lens that I bought, confirmed it wasn't a lemon, and walked me through some tips on how to get better results with the lens I already bought elsewhere. At my urging, he also talked me through the lenses they had in stock and others I could get online if I still wanted to buy something else. He really helped me understand my options and what differences I might see if I changed lenses. In the end, I didn't buy a new lens, and set off to Iceland with just the lens I had already bought and the tips from James on how to use the new lens. Without talking to James, I would have been convinced my lens was the problem and left for my trip utterly devastated to not have a good way to take landscape shots on my trip. After talking to James, I was more confident in my purchase, and I was able to get some great pics because I adjusted my technique. One of the last remaining camera stores in the area. They have a huge selection (maybe the largest locally) of cameras, equipment and photo printing supplies. Every camera brand I could ever worry about. Kenmore has been my go-to camera store for many years and has been a very reliable option. My only complaint would be that their staff really varies from seemingly very little knowledge to pretentious know-it-all levels. I've had good experiences, and I've had... questionable... ones. One particular incident from a while - maybe a year - back: I came in with my Sony mirrorless camera and asked if I could see a Leica M mount lens, one that I was looking to purchase. The staff member dismissively said "that won't work on your camera." Well, here's the deal: I know for a fact it works on my camera (with an adapter), I had a Leica M mount lens adapted to it as we spoke! I responded with such, showing him that it would in fact work with an adapter and that I was currently holding one in my hands. He repeated the same response, somewhat altered to "Leica lenses are only for Leica cameras." Whatever. I bought the lens online instead. My first visit to this store looking for uniqueness and to see if it can help me with my Canon lens addiction. The good news is this is a nice store and comparable to walking into Grazers in Seattle. All the normally expected camera brands, extensive selection of bags, educational materials and appears to have all the Canon and Nikons bodies in stock. Even had a larger than expected selection of used lens and cameras. Large staff and getting service isn't an issue at Kenmore Camera. The bad news is everything looks to be retail prices, like every other good camera store in Seattle. I've been a customer of this establishment for a while now and have enjoyed the in person shopping experience that it provides. This last weekend though I witnessed a customer being treated so poorly by a staff member that I cant in good conscience ever shop here again. It appeared the guy was having issues with a cameras he had purchased and while discussing with the employee for a short time the employee erupted in anger. I'm not sure what was said or what the situation was about but the customer did not seem to provoke the Employee at all. I think the customer asked to talk with the store owner at this point and he was just told if he didn't leave they would charge him with trespassing. All of this was going on while me and many other people where shopping. The looks on peoples faces of how this man was being treated was unreal. The man when told to leave garbed his things and began to leave when another employee followed him out the door trying to provoke the man even more. In a time when almost everything can be bought online It is nice to still have that in person one on one connections. If this is what in person shopping is becoming thought I don't want any part of it. If Kenmore Camera cant handle a customer upset about something better than this then I cant see how they are still in business! read more

Mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, they have the most complete collection of new gear and the best prices. Employees are knowledgeable and eager to help. On the other hand, they offered me rock bottom cash for the very gently used equipment I wanted to trade. I sold the same, exact raft of equipment to KEH for nearly three times the amount I was offered at Kenmore. I then bought the camera I wanted at Glazer's. What else? I am not a photographer, so my review is limited to their photo printing and editing. I've brought a number of older (40+ years) photos into the store with the request to have them enlarged and color-corrected. In every case I've been astonished at the staff's ability to bring the picture back to life, as if no time had passed. They eliminated red-eye in one of the last pictures of my mom, where both eyes were virtually unreadable; and restored a faded, lined graduation photo to its former glory. Yes, it's expensive (lots of photoshop time), but I look at these pictures on my wall and feel the memories are worth it. I've bought 2 cameras from Kenmore and I worked with Brian Byche on both sales. He has helped me get the best performance out of my camera. The owners manual is over an inch thick and it would've taken me a very long time to understand the information that the manual is trying to provide. The manual doesn't always use easy to understand wording. Brian listened carefully to what I was trying to do and steered me toward the right camera choice. Later when I was trying to learn the optimum performance of the camera he could explain in easy to understand words what I needed to do with the camera controls. If you're going to buy a top of the line camera, Brian can lift the fog on your decision making process and help in your understanding a top of the line Nikon and probably other brands,as well. This is the best camera shop I've been to here in the Seattle area. The prices are cheaper than any shops I've been to in the actual City of Seattle, and they are a pro shop with a good selection, smart and friendly employees, and a good selection of used gear. When I first drove out to Kenmore Camera, I was curious if I'd find it right away since I hadn't been to that area before, but it's right off the main road with plenty of parking, at the far end of a small strip-mall. Bonus: it shares the parking lot with a coffee shop. If you live in Seattle without a car, it might be tough to get to simply because it's in Kenmore. But if you've got wheels and are shopping for camera gear, I recommend driving to Kenmore Camera. read more

I spend a fair amount of time poking around camera stores, and Kenmore Camera is far and away the best in the Seattle area, well worth the drive. Kenmore's staff is friendly, helpful, and courteous. I have been in the store many times, and in every case, the staff has been professional and treated me with respect. This is the only large camera store in the region that I can say this about; the theme at the other big stores seems to be "look down your nose at the customers." Kenmore's staff doesn't seem to make assumptions about me based on first impression; they take the time to ask questions to find out what I already know, and then help me learn more from there. They don't make me feel bad if I don't buy anything. The result of their friendly & knowledgeable service is that I've made most of my larger purchases here; they've earned my money. Kenmore's prices are higher than online, but exactly on par with retail. I'm willing to pay the difference for real-life service from people who I know will help me if I have a problem later. Kenmore Camera's largest selection seems to be mostly new digital gear, but they also have a pretty big selection of used digital and analog, lots of accessories, and they even still have darkroom supplies. Their retail space is big enough to hold a wide variety of items to chose from. In short, a little trip up to Kenmore Camera is always a good experience. They are the best. read more

These guys are awesome! Tom H was particularly awesome! He helped me get exactly the camera setup I was needing, not necessarily what I went in thinking I needed, but actually the 'right' one. Tom was no pressure - all help when it came to deciding on the actual body of the camera. Once we looked through models from a few different manufacturers, I settled on a Canon and am SO stoked on it. He helped me with a few lens options and also a desktop studio. Even if you can find it for slightly less money through online pump-up-the-volume distributors, it's better to support your local shop. And when the service is this awesome, it makes for an easy choice. Plus you can hold and feel the cameras, something I drastically underestimated before going in. Tom's last advice to me was, "no matter what, don't get frustrated if you don't get it right at first... just keep playing." Don't worry Tom, I took your advice and am enjoying the setup a ton.
