I have heard many, many, many commercials for Mint Dentistry and other "Dentist in a Box" spots, but was skeptical. They tout the thousands of positive reviews online, which is valid to a point, but I've never found positive reviews that helpful. Look at the negative ones. There, I saw mention of the cattle-call/sheep-herd approach that happens at the new chain places - very little personalized service and a quick, surface level check. No thank you. In contrast, the reviews for Arts District were almost universally positive and touted the amount of time and attention spect with patients. I can now attest this is absolute reality. My initial appointment went for approximately two hours. In that time, totally covered and zero cost to me via my Metlife insurance, I received x-rays, multiple photographic reviews of all teeth, a thorough two-pass cleaning with the scraper thing, a brushing with the nasty dental pumice paste, gum assessment and finally an assessment by the dentist. Despite my long absence from the dental game, there was no judgement at all. I had a couple of fillings (30 years old) which need replacement. I have a spot on my tongue (probably because I bit it myself) which they want to keep an eye on. No push for extra services, no pressure at all. Just a happy staff glad you are taking responsibility for your teeth.

Dr Pruitt practices general dentistry. He handles Xrays, Cleanings, Filings, etc. I have only needed one specialist referral in 30 years. And he makes the smoothest crowns. He says it jokingly but he does make quality lasting crowns. Janice is front desk. She has a smile in her voice. But, she can be just as fierce as needed to get those insurance companies to pay up. So, I went down the street to Access Dental and was getting x-rayed within five minutes of going through the doors. Dr. Pham met with me and gave the the straight dope - the tooth needed to come out. I came in two weeks later, and she had that tooth out in 7 minutes flat with very little bleeding or discomfort. Her chair-side manner is awesome; she is a sweetheart and genuinely cares for her patients. I will most certainly be back to her office as a regular customer. The only issue I had was her office staff. With the exception of two of the nurses, the front staff was slow and didn't really seem to pay attention to detail. Maybe they're new, I don't know. I hope Dr. Pham keeps on them to improve. She did not stand for any mistakes while I was there. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Pham and Access Dental Meadowbrook. They are awesome. None of that balancing a clipboard on your knee while trying to get that cheap, corporate promo pen to work... Dr. Macalik came out to the waiting room personally and walked me back to the exam. All the processes and procedures were performed smoothly and professionally, but they never lost any of the "human" touch. Everyone involved spoke "to me" and not "at me", making me feel welcome and comfortable during a somewhat painful episode. I would recommend Dr. Macalik to anyone who is seeking a consummate professional who has built a practice around a core of staff that really does seem to care about providing quality health care...emphasis on the "care".

I specifically asked for a consultation on how much that would cost with my insurance being out of network. BEFORE making appt i reiterated i wanted a consultation only and asked if there would be any fee to me being out of network. 'No, your consultation is covered.' CONSULTATIONS ARE NOT FREE apparently , they billed my insurance subsequently for a $91.00 visit out of network. They got paid $46.00 and I received a prompt text that I needed to pay an additional $45.00! I don't really care they got paid the $46.00 but to harass me for $45.00 for 6 minutes of being with the 'Doctor' to tell me it would be $1000 out of pocked for tooth #7 flipper is outrageous. NO X-RAYS: nothing but a few minutes of 'consultation'. SO I GUESS SHE WANTS TO MAKE $910/hr if you extrapolate that math????? before hardware???????
