My husband and I went on a small road trip and happened upon Kempner Brick Oven. We walked in sat down and I ordered cheesecake. Im not even joking with you, a lady walked by with a cup of coffee and the smell of that coffee was awesome! We use it to dip cooked meat in and spread on the German bread. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. You should go early or call and have them hold one for you because they sell out quick. Gem out of nowhere. Not gonna lie, portions are a little on the small side, but the food is damn good and GREAT beers served. Love the little bakery - the manager/owner has given my son (4 yrs old) a free cookie every trip and I still leave with Togo boxes for the wife of cake or pie. First time here! I used to live in Germany many years ago so I have some experience i this department. The inside is small and casual (which is nice!), they have all the German candy and sweets you could imagine including an entire bakery worth of cakes and pies. They also have fresh bread! The menu was simple and had all the expected dishes for a German eatery. I decided to go with the Curry wurst and fries and I also got a side of lentil soup. The food was out pretty quick and all the staff was very kind in checking in to ensure nothing else was needed for the meal. Pricing was reasonable and I ended up getting some candy on the way out. The food was incredible. Definitely authentic German food. I got a Reuben and German chocolate cake and wow!! The French fries were also really crispy and fresh tasting. The only complaint I have is when we were ready to check out, it seemed like all the servers disappeared. We sat around for about 20-30 min waiting to pay our check. Usually that's not that big of a problem but when you have little ones, timing is everything The people are really nice and friendly and their food was to die for! The Brick Oven is only a two minute drive from my house. They have awesome Schnitzel and the cucumber salad is devine! One of the MUST try items has to be the Bacon Cheeseburger! Poor service can ruin a 5 star rating for food. If I were rating the food alone here this would be a 5 star rating. We got a server who had worked there for 2 days and while I understand new staff; she should have been accompanied by and guided by a seasoned server. Her tables should have been monitored by a senior member of the staff. We were seated, it took significant time to attend to taking our orders. Food was excellent. Went there for the first time and got just the regular bratwurst with sauerkraut and potatoes. I've had this many times in many different cooking styles. It was nothing that blew my mind but it was definitely very tasty. I would recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for food. We tried to eat here. We were acknowledged 10 minutes after being there and then given menus. 2 tables seated after us were served ahead of us. Was at Kempner Brick Oven last week. BY FAR the best German food in any restaurant that I have ever had. It was as if the food had been prepared in my kitchen. We had Roladen, with spaetzle and red cabbage. The gravy was so good on the spaetzle and the roladen were perfect. The meat was tender, seasoned just right and the red cabbage had just the perfect sour/sweet ratio. Definitely try this restaurant....you will not regret it. read more

We decided to give this place a try as we had seen this place several times driving through Kempner and we love German food. When we went in we noticed that there were maybe six tables and all were full. The waitress came out from the back, looked at us, raised her hands in the air and said "Sorry, we are all full". I paused for a moment, then turned around to leave. As I got to the door and started to open it she then asked if we wanted to wait. It was too late by then as I was already half way out of the door. I have never been treated so poorly by any restaurant staff before. You would think that she would have offered to put us a wait list instead of implying that we weren't wanted there. I was sort of stunned for a moment. Wish I could say that I tried the food and could post a review about that but they didn't even let me get that far. So this waitress lost business for the owners because she did not know how to handle having a full restaurant and ask people to please wait for the next available table. First, I went to German Imbiss, for my first taste of German food and loved it! Hubby and I decided to give the one in Kempner a try and found this place was so much better as far as taste and quality. The Brick Oven is really tiny on the inside. The dinning area has maybe 6 tables total?!? A large flat screen mounted on the wall helps a little. The display cases were full of yummies. Cakes, pastries, fresh bread. Hubby and I ordered the schnitzel of course and the taste really shined through although a little salty for me. The service is quick!!! We walked in sat down got drinks, ordered food, got food, sampled pastries! Their potato salad is just perfect! I did not give 5 stars because the person who brought us our food never offered us fresh bread with our meal...maybe you have to ask? And we never got our salads at all:( However, we were so stuffed full of schnitzel and pastries at this point that we were ok without the salads. Although the Brick Oven is a further drive, this will be my quiet go to place for my German food cravings. read more
