    Vanilla glazed
    Leslie S.

I cringe when I have to give my locals bad reviews, so.... I won't exactly do that. I will just call this place mediocre. I just was not impressed. Good: It was pretty easy to get in and out of their parking lot, and when I went inside, the place was bright, neat, and very clean. The case was well stocked at 7:30 AM on a Saturday. The rest: got three donuts, a vanilla glazed, which I found just was kind of tasteless, even though it had good texture in the icing and the donut. The second donut was an old-fashioned, which is what I judge all donut shops by, right or wrong. The flavor didn't wow me, and even though it was glazed well and looked good, I felt that the ratio of glaze soaked crispiness to inside tenderness was off, with too little of the inside goodness. It just seemed too thin to me. What I was most excited about, and most disappointed in, was the glazed croissant. I saw it in the case, and my brain went "whoopee!" - it looked fantastic. I got it home and cut it apart and.... found that the inside was not cooked all the way through. When I pulled, the middle part of it stringed almost like melted mozzarella. Great idea, bad execution, I guess. Overall, like I said, I was not impressed, but maybe they were just having a bad day.

Really good service. Kelly was nice and funny. The food taste good. The prices are very reasonable. I got the Texas sandwich which comes with two eggs for pizza bacon or sausage. I asked her because she gave me half-and-half she said yes. I just wish the toast was toasted a little bit more. And I thought that it was going to be in circle sausage and not the links so next time I probably would go with the full shebang. But I definitely will be coming back again and she's got some good apple juice. That apple turnover is everything did I mention that they had a drive-through

I have never had any issues with the folks here until today. I used to come all the time when I worked on Lindbergh. First time back in a long time and this is what I was served and was told to basically that there's nothing they would do by a guy that said he's the only person I could speak with. Usually if it's a small business and you are dissatisfied the person understands and states their policy simple.

Best doughnuts around! The blueberry cake doughnut is my personal favorite, it's pure heaven. You can get a dozen for $9. The staff is friendly and quick. They have breakfast foods other than doughnuts too.

    Breakfast food.

At noon on a Sunday, it was bustling, but luckily, there was a very short wait for a table. Our server, Antigone, was fantastic! She provided amazing recommendations, was extremely warm and friendly, and made our experience very pleasant despite the somewhat lengthy wait for our food. The food was well worth the wait. I thoroughly enjoyed my order of salmon croquettes with rice and a biscuit. My mate's Build-A-Breakfast order of scrambled eggs, hash browns, and chicken wings had some of the best-tasting wings that I have ever had in my life. When I return to Hive Cafe, I will absolutely order the chicken and waffles just so I can have an order of those wings to myself.

The server came over immediately and gave me menus. I briefly saw the menu online but figured I'd do a once over before making my decision. I went with the build-your-own breakfast and got the eggs and potatoes with a biscuit and turkey sausage. Drink wise, I went with water and a strawberry-pineapple mimosa. The mimosa was so refreshing and I def. appreciated the pour after a stressful flight! It wasn't long until my food came out. I was a bit disappointed at the portion of the egg as they seemed almost too small for what I was supposed to receive. The peppers on the potatoes threw me off. I think I was expecting something different. Nevertheless, they were good but not what I had pictured. Surprisingly, the biscuit was the highlight of my meal. It was perfect! The turkey sausage tasted like regular turkey sausage, so nothing special there. Overall, my server was awesome and gave great service. While I enjoyed my visit, it would have been nice if there signs to let customers know they're under construction instead of walking into dust on the floor, chairs, and everywhere. Aside from that, I def intend on coming back!

My daughter and I both had the catfish nugget dinner. Our side were yams, greens and macaroni and cheese. Everything was delicious. For most of our visit, real nice jazz was playing in the background until a patron complained (really?!) and so the music got flipped to RAP. We did not appreciate that. For dessert we split the red velvet cake (our second choice because they were out of banana pudding). The cake was dry - perhaps it sat out in the open uncovered. The icing was great tho. All that being said, I will go back to try some of the more traditional creole dishes on the menu. And hopefully they'll have banana pudding.

I started eating in the car because I wanted to taste it while it was fresh. The yams were well seasoned and sweet. My baked chicken was juicy and falling off the bone. It was so savory that I almost did not have any left by the time I got to work. I also enjoyed the green beans and I like that they had potatoes; this adds to the heartiness of the meal. While the macaroni looked wonderful and I could see the seasoning, I was hoping to taste more herbs. I still ate them all, but they were bland. I only did not add my own seasoning because the rest of the meal was seasoned well enough that I did not want to overdo it.

As they should on NYE. Still, we never felt rushed. In fact, our waiter, Todd, was very attentive and even slowed down another server who was going to bring us our salads (a house and a caesar with anchovies) before we had a chance to finish our appetizer (a savory and spicy jambalaya arancini). Good catch on his part. We both had a glass of prosecco to start and then split a bottle of French pinot noir (Domaine de Valmoissine) to go with our entrees (steak tip pasta and steak frites). My wife loved the pasta dish (fresh pappardelle with steak tips, demiglace cream sauce and shiitake mushrooms) and my steak was perfectly prepared medium-rare with crisp and flavorful garlic fries and a side of green beans and shiitake mushrooms. It's the kind of meal and service we've come to expect at Timothy's. We look forward to the spring and some new menu items with the change of seasonal foods.

From what I remember from my middle school days, City Diner is the best place to get a burger in North County. As a big burger fan, I truly love the burgers here. Stopped in on 7/5 around 1045am for breakfast. Place was just over 1/4 full and they had 3 or 4 ladies taking orders. They were prompt in initial greeting and order taking (this is where two stars come from) but after that it all fell apart. Two simple orders; French toast with two eggs (over easy) and two pieces of bacon, and a slinger with rye toast. Order took a bit longer than anticipated to arrive, not too big a deal, but the order came out piecemeal with neither of us getting our all items on initial service. On both the eggs were cooked over hard, the bacon was burnt, the slinger missing cheese, and the "hash browns" lacked any seasoning or proper cook to them. Rye toast came out about 10 minutes later and barely warm let alone toasted. The French toast didn't even arrive till after all the other food was gone. It was cold, soggy, and clearly needed more time on the flattop. Server tried to do her best, but there appears to be no way for the kitchen to tell staff that food is up aside from them having to always keep watch. They lack any ability to keep items warm once it leaves the kitchen, and they really need to get a new cooking staff or at least get some training for their cooking staff. Florissant lacks any good breakfast food locations that are not fast food and they really could increase their business if they take time to look at and fix their internal problems.

After sitting down, I noticed paper menus sitting on the counter, so I walked over to grab them. The lady at the register, who later claimed to be the manager after I asked to speak to one, said, "I will bring them to you." Also fine. I simply went back to our booth and waited. When she came over, instead of saying hello or introducing herself, her first words were, "You need to practice a little patience." That immediately put my service radar on high alert. There was no attitude from us, no complaints, we had simply walked over to grab menus. The comment was unnecessary and unprofessional. She then asked what we wanted to drink. I calmly asked, "Can you wipe the table down?" Her response: "It is." I replied, "It is not there are spots on the table." She then pointed at the table and said, "These are imperfections." I know the difference between imperfections in a surface and spots that can be wiped clean. The table clearly had residue on it. Rather than simply wiping it down, she chose to argue. At that point, I told my husband, "Let's just leave." The entire interaction felt dismissive, defensive, and rude. When I asked to speak to a manager, she claimed she was the manager. I let her know directly that her tone and behavior were inappropriate, and we left. Customer service is about making guests feel welcome. This felt the exact opposite. I should have trusted the 3.7-star rating, but I gave the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake. Do not waste your time or money here.
