First off, the place is extremely well decorated, and has the most cheerful staff I think I've ever encountered. I really debated on whether to give them a 3 or a 4 star rating, and decided on 3, because unless you have food allergies or are downtown and specifically craving cupcakes, I feel like although it looks fantastic, it tastes ordinary. As for my experience, I had the soy soft serve ice cream, which I don't recommend unless you're allergic to dairy. My friend and I both agreed that it didn't taste bad per se, but just really strange - the soy flavour was really strong. I got used to it though, especially since I added caramel and brownie bits to amp it up. Heads up though, toppings are a dollar *each,* which for a spoonful of topping is I think a bit overpriced (I didn't notice the sign before I asked). My friend had the snickerdoodle cupcake, which was really good, but I didn't like the icing that much (it was fluffy but had an oily mouth feel). I would consider coming back, the place has a good atmosphere, and if the food is better I'd be happy to give them a higher rating. read more

We were sent here by some lovely people from Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary & I'm glad we were. Hubby had a brownie sundae. The brownie was moist & gooey deliciousness. I had a chocolate cupcake with vanilla/coconut frosting, again, moist & delicious. We brought some back home to NY and we have not been disappointed. Our favorite so far is the root beer float-chocolate cake with gooey center & vanilla frosting with a hint of root beer & a fresh cherry on top. Yummy!! read more

Had the Mile High Brownie. Tasty at first, but by mid way through was rather crumbly and not very chocolatey tasting. The sauce meant to emulate caramel tasted completely acrid and synthetic. With all the "no this, no that", one has to wonder what they're actually making it with. There is no nutritional information on their site or in the restaurant. I'm sure I was overcharged, as well based on the posted prices. At $6.20 a shot, I don't think I'll be back, but certainly worth trying. read more

I'm not sure why anyone rates them highly personally, all of the cupcakes taste the exact same. Insanely sugary and bland of any real flavour. Due to allergies in our family, I was super stoked to find this cute pink bakery filled to the brim with treats that I could choose freely from. We bought 4 different cupcakes (vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream and dulce de leche), a mile high brownie, a snickerdoodle cookie sandwich, and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was great, but the winner was definitely the mile high brownie. Sweet, dense, rich, chocolatey, nothing was missing...absolutely fantastic! I was happy to see a freezer full of take out items including brownies, cakes and cupcakes. I was further elated to see on their website that they have delivery!!! As for the price, yes, it's higher than your average bakery, but for us, it's a treat-a treat that if I wanted to make myself, would cost me much more time and money and frustration. I'd rather pay professionals like Kelly's Bake Shoppe to do it for me. All I can say is thank you to Kelly's Bake Shoppe for letting our family enjoy baked treats again! So one night my friend and I were walking downtown later in the evening and saw that there was only a handful of people so we went inside. It's nice that they offer a variety of sweets and treats for pretty much any dietary need, as they are vegan and gluten free! This shop is very cute and chic, they have awesome branding and it's a must try if you are a foodie! They have a variety of treats such as cupcakes, cookies, brownies, ice cream sandwiches, soft serve, and a variety of coffees! They use and sell Balzacs coffee beans which is so awesome. The only thing is after eating a few cupcakes they seem to taste more or less the same, really sweet and similar flavours..maybe it's all the butter cream! We stopped in here as we had just done some intense Tri training and fully deserved a treat. I got the pina colada cupcake, and it was really delicious! The icing was top notch! It was super light so it didn't make you feel sugar overload gross. The cupcake was moist and had pineapple chunks in it. I got the snickerdoodle cookie sandwich to go, so I can't review that yet. Whenever I happen to stop by Burlington, I make it a point to stop by Kelly's Bake Shoppe for their cupcakes. Believe it or not, I only stumbled across Kelly's Bake Shoppe because I parked in the wrong parking lot and saw a huge pink sign re: cupcakes and I had to be there. I didn't even know the place was vegan.......until I had the first vanilla cupcake. I'm a cupcake fanatic and have had cupcakes EVERYWHERE I visit. The vanilla cupcake wasn't great. However, I then tried the dulce de leche one and it was-BY FAR- one of the best dulce de leche cupcakes I've had. Icing was light and Erin is right: this place does not cut corners as the freshness of the ingredients was evident. When you get to the centre, the homemade caramel just melts in your mouth and makes your palette smile. Definitely worth the drive and $$. Service is always excellent. I wish I remembered the name of the really nice lady that served me at Kelly's because if I ever opened up a food establishment and needed someone who could render great service, I'd hire her in a heartbeat! Bonus: lovely and welcoming atmosphere. This establishment just screams for you to head inside, which you should! The owners are clearly passionate about what they do and really do care about their customers. read more

Great Bakery! Won't find better GF baked goods. I absolutely love their skinny cookies. You can truly taste the oats and bananas, it's not too sweet and it makes me feel less guilty for indulging. They serve Pilot coffee which is bomb. Another show stopper in my opinion is their Nanaimo bar. If you like that kind of sweets it's a must try just don't try it in the tray version because it doesn't do it justice. You need the thick cut square they sell by the piece. Friendly service, charming location, parking available, tasty treats that won't trigger a vast range of allergies ... not much more one could ask for. read more

Wonderful to be able to call in and order muffins, donuts, etc. - to pick up. If they don't have enough in stock - you can pre-order, and arrangements are made for when they will be ready for pick up. Good location. Great interior. Exceptionally friendly service. Told the staff I didn't have any dietary restrictions. Was told to get the blueberry muffin because I wouldn't tell the difference from a regular blueberry muffin. The muffin was OK. Definitely not amazing, but not terrible either. Certainly worth $1.50 as most muffins would be. However, the charge was more than $5 (after tax). If that was THE most tasteful thing on the menu and that's how much it costs, it will have been my last visit to Kelly's. At those prices, if people love it, the owners must be LOADED! read more

We discovered Kelly's through word-of-mouth from friends in Burlington and are so glad we did! We love everything we've tried from there and we set these as our "treats" in an otherwise strict menu plan. Being gluten-free and dairy-free, it's very hard to find desserts; and I'm not bothered to pay a little more to have something that covers those, as well as being delicious. I know some of these reviews are pretty negative, but honestly it seems like they went to another place entirely. Kelly's is one of the only bakeries that caters to basically every dietary restriction, all in one stop. Everything is gluten, nut, diary, and animal product free. The baked goods are gorgeous, as is the store, and despite being dessert, you don't get that "crappy" feeling you normally get after indulging in sweets. Unlike some other gluten free products, the texture of their products is spot-on, and their cupcakes have a nice crunch on the top but soft, moist interior. I've tried a multitude of gluten free products, and the texture and mouth-feel is easily the best here. I'd put it up with any "regular" cupcake in that regard I'll admit the prices are a little steep, but nothing too out of the ordinary for this kind of dietary-conscious product. It may be healthier than normal, but the taste is all good. read more

This is a really sweet little gluten-free bake shop right in the heart of downtown Burlington. Very friendly servers and an array of delicious looking treats to choose from. I had the brownie and also tasted the chocolate chip cookie sandwich. The brownie was fairly dense and tasty but missing that really moist and gooey experience you can often get with a regular brownie. The chocolate taste will satisfy you but the slightly dry texture will remind you of what's missing. This is a great alternative though, for people who need to eat gluten/dairy free. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich was more satisfying. The cookie had a lovely moist, chewy texture and great taste. It was balanced by their mysterious white "icing" as the filling. It's cool and not too sweet with a nice, light feel. Baffled as to how they make it, but it's good. And doesn't have that sickly rich quality that butter cream or other similar icings can often have. I took home two coconut cupcakes - one vanilla and one chocolate. The vanilla one was just bad - it had a very weird taste and I couldn't eat it. Worlds best cup cakes hands down. If you ever want to cheer someone up with a delicious adorable treat, this is the place to go!
