This is a perfectly fine bakery, and if you are vegan or gluten free, feel free to add a star. Vegan baking can be amazing, gluten free baking can be amazing, but when the two things combine it can be very difficult to make something that stands out. That said, the cupcakes all look delightful and wonderful, and the fact that they have vegan ice cream is a rare treat. That is why I will be returning here. I've always wanted to try Kelly's bakeshoppe but because I'm not so local to the area, never really had a chance. So the day I was in Burlington, I was immediately through the door. Kelly's is beautiful inside, it reminds you of a proper little cute bakery with the most friendly staff and probably most importantly, it smells heavenly. You're definitely going to leave with something so be warned. Everything looked good. The cupcakes looked perfect especially. But I had one thing in mind. Their award winning mile high brownie. Armed with it in hand and a tub of their homemade caramel sauce, I couldn't wait to eat it. And once I did, I couldn't stop. I ordered some cupcakes and one brownie from Kelly's Bake Shoppe and really enjoyed them. All the items at Kelly's are vegan, plant based, gluten and dairy free. THE DESSERTS: Cinnamon Bun Cupcake: 4-Stars - The cinnamon bun cupcake was really good. The cupcake was made with a vanilla base that wasn't too sweet or overpowering. It features a cinnamon drizzle throughout and had a good level of cinnamon to make this a cinnamon bun cupcake. The frosting was a bit on the sweet side but it was still good and the cupcake was topped with a seed crumble & a cinnamon caramel sauce that was very enjoyable. Brookie Cupcake: 3.5 Stars This was a yummy cupcake with a chocolate base and it was filled with a delicious cookie dough butter topping that was also used to attach the mini brownie to the cupcake. My favourite past of the cupcake was the cookie dough butter topping which made it taste more rich. Nanaimo Bar Cupcake: 3-Stars - The Nanaimo Bar Cupcake was good and I really enjoyed the chocolate ganache hidden inside the chocolate cupcake and the creamy vanilla buttercream frosting. The chocolate cupcake was really rich but I found the nanaimo bar on top a little bland. It seemed like it was missing something and I would definitely try a different chocolate cupcake next time. Mile High Brownie: 4-Stars - The mile high brownie was really good. It was really rich and decadent. The brownie texture was moist and not dry at all. It featured a bigger brownie with a smaller brownie on top, merged together with a vegan buttercream. The smaller brownie was drizzled in a chocolate ganache and vegan caramel sauce. The caramel sauce had a nice light flavour that was not too sweet/overpowering and the ganache was to die for. Cookie Dough Cupcake: 5-stars This cupcake was delicious. The cupcake had vegan chocolate chips throughout and it tasted just like cookie dough. The texture was soft and not too hard the way a cookie would be. I have to admit, the first time I had Kelly's Mile High Brownie, I was impressed by the taste and loved it overall. However, I was definitely disappointed when I recently visited again. I got the same brownie and the poppy seed loaf. I didn't end up liking it this time, as it was missing the taste of freshness. Perhaps it had been sitting out all day or for more than a day, I'm not sure what it was. But it was not good. However, I really loved their drink & enjoyed sipping on their drip coffee made with coconut milk. I really like the interiors and exteriors of this place and find that it's such a cute spot. Wow, this place was good! I don't think we have any vegan bakeries around us in Buffalo, and if we do I haven't been to them but this place would be worth the short drive if we want to take a little day trip to explore. The oat milk soft serve was so creamy! The vanilla was good but I have never had chocolate oat milk soft serve and wow the flavor was delicious. We also got a snickerdoodle cookie and that was also so so good. I honestly wouldn't have known it was vegan had I not been the one to order and read the ingredients. My daughter and son devoured their ice cream and I absolutely kept that cookie to myself, maybe sharing a little with my husband :) Very cute location and the decor is fun and quaint! Please don't use a "fork press down" design on this cookie as it is quite known universally as the traditional peanut butter cookie marking. It sent the wrong message to me. And I can get that with a spoon of refined sugar straight into my mouth. There is no depth in flavours and therefore you come away extremely underwhelmed. Kelly's does not disappoint! I have gone here for a few years and enjoy their confections. My go to cupcake is the coffee break cupcake. The chocolate cake is moist and not too sweet. The frosting has coffee beans in it which helps to tone down the sweetness and add flavour. The mini cinnamon donut is like the cherry on top! Another yummy confection is their raspberry square. I ordered a dozen holiday cupcakes from Kelly's Bake. I live in Ajax, but ordered from afar, as I follow Kellys Bake on Instagram and their posts always make me hungry & the cupcakes are picture perfect. I had the cupcakes delivered to my friend in Oakville who I was having brunch in Toronto with. She mentioned when the cupcakes were delivered some of the decorative pieces on the top were broken & icing was smudged. I got home & had a look and sure enough these cupcakes were indeed mangled. I was disappointed and wrote and called Kelly's. I paid $75 for these 12 cupcakes ($50 for the cupcakes + $15 delivery). I felt like they should have been perfect. The presentation was lost. I did hear back from the owner who didn't seem to think anything was wrong with them and expressed that because they had travelled a long way, this was to be expected. I ended up keeping the cupcakes at my house to have with my family, although they were intended for a friends Holiday get together. I was very disappointed in the quality and how my complaint was handled. My expectations were high. I can't say I that I would ever purchase anything from Kelly's Bake Shop in Burlington again. I am was very disappointed in both the quality and service. I truly felt after they received my payment I was dismissed. This place has been on my radar for a long time - I had been hearing nothing but amazing things about Kelly's Bake Shoppe both in the media and on social (obviously Yelp as well) and knew I needed to make my way here at some point. From a marketing standpoint the branding of KBS is on point. It's the most girly bakery I've seen in years. However, it's not like that pink sprinkles girly, it's that sophisticated Gucci pink that comes with a pair of LBs - you know what I mean. And plus, they're vegan and gluten free so there's that HUGE thing too. I waited in line and ordered two cupcakes (Black and White and a Strawberry Chocolate) which was a panicked decision and I regretted not getting one of the others I had my eye on. And I also got a giant Chocolate chip cookie and a pair of Americanos for the drive home. The cupcakes aesthetically are gorgeous, a little smaller than the avg cupcake but very pretty none-the-less. Being vegan and g-free I knew not to expect exact taste comparisons to traditional cupcakes because of the lack of milk, sugar and traditional gluten rich flours. Setting my expectations as such definitely helped curb any potential disappointment. I did find them to be dryer than a normal cupcake but compared to other vegan cupcakes they were far more moist. The cookie was spot on for texture although I was pretty sure that there was either almond or coconut flour used as a certain nuttiness did dominate the flavour profile. Committed to the vegan ways, they only offer Coconut milk/cream in lieu of dairy options. I was surprised by this at first but then realized I was surprised because I tend to look at milk as a condiment and not for what it actually is. MILK! Many mentions on price, I spent about $30 on 3 food items and 2 drinks, definitely really pricy, but if you consider the mere costs of these higher quality ingredients then it makes sense. Now I'm not quite ready to give up my non-vegan lifestyle quite yet but knowing places like Kelly's exist to make the cravings easier to cope with, I'm certainly inspired to consider it. This place is sooo cute! Unfortunately, the price's ain't. 6 cupcakes and 2 cookies cost me a whooping $30. That's craziness, but it's all in the name of being a foodie and sweets lover. I've had this place on my radar for awhile and was so excited to finally stop by. Sadly, I was very disappointed with the cupcakes. I got two red velvet, two pretty in pink, a stud muffin and the last vanilla. The bf and I split a pretty in pink before the drive home and it did not sit well with the both of us. Maybe it was the champagne infused everything, maybe it was the sweetness of the buttercream icing, but we were not feeling great. I ended up giving the other pretty in pink and stud muffin away, so I can't comment on that. The red velvet was so disappointing. No hint of the red velvet taste at all. I understand that it's gluten free, vegan etc. but I expected the red velvet taste to come thorough somehow. I love anything gluten free when I can have it that way, so I'm used to eating gluten free goods. The red velvet was just not happening, especially the icing. Fortunately, the vanilla was pretty good. The cake was actually tasty and icing was meh. The icing for the red velvet and vanilla tasted the same to me. Maybe it was? The chocolate chip cookie was very sweet and had a coconut-y taste due to the coconut flour. Love this. I've been using coconut flour to bake with for awhile now. I love how it's gluten free and loaded with fiber. The world peace cookie tasted very healthy. I had this for breakfast the next day and I think it held up well. Pastries look fantastic but still doesn't taste the same, dry most of the time and flavours are still not true flavours. And expensive! We ordered the red velvet cake and it was very expensive but very small and it wasn't even red! Their red velvet cupcakes were red but not their expensive velvet cake??!! Makes no sense. We have kids with allergies so we have to come here once in a blue moon but I think from now on we will just stick with ice cream cakes. I can't believe I am only now writing a review for Kelly's - I visit quite often when I am in the Burlington area. I have quite a few favourites, but I also have some things that I didn't enjoy as much. Prices here are pretty high - I understand it is for the vegan factor and the ingredients. Some items I think are worth it and others, not as much. I have enjoyed all of the cupcake flavours that I have tried. I have not been such a fan of the cookies, or the brownies. The nanaimo bar is delicious, and so is the ice cream (more recently). I also absolutely love the pumpkin scone - though it really is more like cake! The tea's are really tasty, and the coffee has been alright. I tend to like almond milk as an alternative - but they do not do nuts so I usually have to go with coconut milk (which I don't enjoy as much). They have a few other items as well! This place is basically always packed - it's also always clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and very organized, ready to suggest items if others are sold out. They are very quick to grab your order and quick to cash you out as well - since it's always so busy they know how to keep the line moving. I can't say this is my absolute favourite treat shop, but I do enjoy visiting once in a while! I also love the decor, and the outside of the building - very girly and aesthetically pleasing. We dropped in for ice cream, as recommended by Yelp. This is a serious cupcake operation! The ice cream business seems to be an afterthought though. Little attention has been made to what could possibly be a great second line of business. Could they top off soft serve with pieces of the cupcakes they make in house ? Sure ! But, offering toppings like jelly beans, sprinkles and gummy bears cheapens the entire operation & experience. Please review your ice cream operation! You are better than this ! Kelly's bake shop is a family favourite. We stop by here every time we are in the area or popping by. They have a very large selection of gourmet upscale cookies, cakes, cupcakes and donuts. They were voted the top bakery in the area 3 years running now, but the funny part is that everything is gluten free dairy free vegan. Their products are outstanding. I ran a gluten free company of my own for years, but I shop here. The place is very well run. They always have enough product, and they get very large crowds. There is a mix of all sorts of folks going in and out, and not all of them have special dietary needs. The food is just that good. The place is spotless. It is well decorated, and the staff is very friendly and professional. The bathrooms are groomed and also spotless. All that and they serve vegan ice cream as well. We are not vegan, but appreciate the find efforts put it by this company to bring out gluten free products that not only compete against conventuals bakeries, but surpass them in appeal. read more

GO HERE AND TREAT YOURSELF. My wife and I have a number of food allergies between the two of us. We stumbled upon this bakery while driving through town and decided to stop. So glad we did! This bakery has incredible treats. It's a 100% gluten free and vegan bakery and one of the only places I've been to where you really can't tell the difference in texture, consistency or taste. They offer a great variety of cupcakes, some cookies, brownies, and other baked goods along with dairy free ice cream and ice cream treats. Whenever I go to visit my husband's parents, I make a stop by this very yummy bakery. I'm obsessed with their pumpkin scones, and in my opinion it's the best baked good they have. My second favorite would be the 'world peace cookies' and thirdly, the muffins! Everything is vegan and gluten free, not that anyone could taste the difference from their conventional counterparts. If anything, they are far better. Downside is the price. I believe they are too expensive. Pumpkin scones years ago used to be bigger, now they have become smaller and the price is the same high price. Coffee prices are way too high, and the coffee isn't good. Go down the street to Tamp Coffee Co for 100% better coffee and is less in price. Overall, this place has a very warm and inviting environment, great service and great baked goods. I have always seen the shop but never new it was vegan...whoo hoo! I purchased the matcha tea cupcake and the banana chocolate chip loaf. It was pretty busy on a sunday at 1pm. Now on to the sweet treats...sweet but not to sweet,just the way I like it. Although I couldn't get over a certain after taste. I was distracted by all the good looking cakes so I didn't really look at the ingredients, what flour do you guys use? It had this griddy after taste like a chickpea flour or brown rice flour I can't but my tongue on it. The cakes were very moist and flavourful. I will have to go back and try different treats but comparing to Bloomers or urban herbivore or Bunners treats I still prefer there's....all of there's and only because there was no after taste. Just an update: I recently tried their soft serve ice cream with brownie crumbs and cookie dough.
