I love this place. It's located around downtown Hamilton in plaza with it's own parking. I've been here three times, had their mac n cheese, some of their sandwiches, and desserts. They have a large variety of items ranging from salad bowls to burgers to sandwiches to dessert. All the prices are very reasonable and unlike some vegan places that charge $20+ for a plate, most of their items range from $10 to $15 and are very filling. Overall, it's a healthy (if you want to be), tasty and nicely decorated place for a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

OMG sooo good here! Love the cozy, industrial big atmosphere, menu and drinks selection (including wine and beer), the service... everything! I had the bbq pulled jackfruit sandwich and it's one of the best I've had! (And I'm a travelling vegan who's tried many!). Happy family lives near by as we will be back!

Cashew Mac, Mexi Bowl and Poutine

Came here with my two friends to celebrate the end of classes and the start of finals, upon arriving we noticed there was some really aesthetic decorations and seating areas. It was nice how you ordered up at the front and then found a seat and someone would bring your food over to you I decided to order the Cashew Mac as I have never tried a vegan Mac and cheese. I'm glad I decided on that as the sauce was different from a usual Mac and cheese but it was good different! My friends ordered the poutine and mexi bowl. From what I tried of the mexi bowl it seemed super yummy with lots of toppings The poutine however was lacking in the "cheese" but the gravy tasted pretty good considering it was a different kind of gravy than what I was used to Overall a great place for vegans, vegetarians and individuals who want to try good plant based food!

Really enjoyed this place. They put a lot of thought into the decor. They have vegan and gluten free food options. Something for Everyone. We ordered the rice bowl, mediterranean bowl, and planted salad. Loved them!!! They also have dessert if you have room lol...

I had dinner at Planted while passing through Hamilton, and wish there were another location closer to where I live! My husband and I shared the chickpea buffalo wings as a starter. For our entrees, he had the Planted salad, and I had the cashew mac. While the wings couldn't pass as real wings, they were still tasty, like oblong falafel balls coated in spicy buffalo sauce. I've never had cashew cheese before until I had Planted's cashew mac, and while I prefer mac and cheese with real cheese (I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian), the cashew mac was pretty good, though I did doctor it up with some hot sauce. I really liked the seared zucchini that came with the mac, and found the portion size of the dish to be very generous (I had to get a box to take my leftovers with me). My husband was also pleased with his salad. Unfortunately, we were too full to consider getting some of Planted's yummy-looking baked goods. The staff was very friendly, both at the order counter and when they came to our table to check how we were liking our food.

Eggplant fish and chips. Vegan and gluten free. I would never have guessed this was not fish... delicious!

The food and variety of options is amazing! I have been here twice and the food was great both times. Vegan or otherwise, the food here is at the very top of all of my food experiences- ever. My non-vegan friend is a repeat visitor (who introduced me to it). I took my mom (not vegan) today and she was floored. Way too good. We will happily drive out from Toronto more often for their food. I just hope they expand into other cities to share their menu with more people!

Great place, mostly self service. Pretty good vegan food, too bad didn't have a chance to go more than once, to try other options. Shouldn't miss, if you're looking for vegan!

Love this restaurant. It's spacious and beautiful inside. The food is outstanding. Everything is vegan and gluten free. The menu has some fun things that you might not otherwise fun vegan let alone gluten free like a meatball sandwich made from lentils and a Caesar salad. The food is seasoned well- not overly salty or sweet like some vegan food can be. Everything Is made fresh to order. We will be back! If you are looking for the place, it's located in an unlikely strip mall but don't be deterred, once you are inside you won't know you are in a strip mall.

Food was delicious and place was very cute. Slightly higher price point than expected, lunch for two came to $30. Worth a try, however!

The Little Grasshopper Cafe

The Little Grasshopper Cafe

(4 reviews)

(Back-to-back Portuguese food in the GTA (is Hamilton included?) - 2 of 2)…read more The Little Grasshopper Cafe' is where I had originally planned to eat, but they would be closing. I then considered it for the following day so that it would act as breakfast and lunch ... an early lunch. The name was interesting, but I didn't ask about its etymology. Portugal has a strong symbolic relationship with roosters and hydrangeas, but I was interested in eating and moving along up the QEW toward Toronto proper. Nonetheless, it's a smaller cafe' behind a brick storefront that is roomy inside. I did not want a big meal and I did not want Canadian food. I selected a fish sandwich, which was a good sized filet. It worked very well for what I needed. I washed it down with a bottle of Sumol. And, on the way out, I added an impulse purchase - a pastel de nata - which was gone in a flash. It was all good. The proprietress of the restaurant was on hand, took my order, and was the server. She was very pleasant. The prices seemed fair. Hamilton is a surprisingly large city, with about 3/4 of a million inhabitants. While it sits in the kink in the "Golden Horseshoe," its downtown core sits inward from the lake. And, in between the lake and downtown, there are residential neighborhoods and small businesses. The area changes very quickly, with some parts being frayed and others being gentrified. The Little Grasshopper Cafe' is in a nice enough area and street parking can be found very close to the restaurant. Additionally, it has a somewhat hippie-dippy mural on the exterior that will also help you locate it. I would return, but I think it would also make a great place for morning coffee and an omelette or pastries.

Deplorable planning of staff. We arrived at 6 pm. and didn't receive our food until after 7:30. They messed up further because one person's food order was missed. What owner of a restaurant doesn't call in more staff, there was only one chef! The food was okay, nothing great! The server tried her best, but it wasn't good enough. I suggested free dessert, due to the aggravation. She hesitated and then did give us free dessert. 20 % gratuities were added to our bill. A further insult to the evening. 10% or 15% would have been more deserving. We usually give 15% but this was undeserving. The owner's may have been away, or too busy to correct this situation. Will not return again.

My meal was their "Nashville Southern Dinner": consisted of 3 (mini) pieces of battered deep fried chicken breast,( over-fried and dried out), and Mac N Cheese (zoodles pasta...you know...something you'd give a kid for lunch) in a scant amount of sauce (like watery "CheezWhiz), and a few pickle slices on the side, all for the high end fine dining price of $29 and a 6oz glass of poor quality Reisling for $19. I couldn't force myself to finish eating it. Sub-standard, poor quality, served barely warm food. They ought to be embarrassed. I made a strong point of insisting the server send my sentiments to the (so-called) cook. Betula is an embarrassment to my hometown! I wouldn't recommend and I will never return. Overall rating: 4.5/5 (rounded up on Yelp)…read more Truly one of the best brunch spots in Hamilton! There's something for everyone at Motel, whether you're a classic brekkie fan, vegetarian/vegan, or have a sweet tooth. The standouts that I recommend are their champagne pancakes (gold flakes, the thickest, decadent Devonshire cream, and raspberry champagne could on top of a giant stack of pancakes), their No Tell Eggs Benny (two words -- tater tots!), and their The Concierge (for all the classic brekkie meat lovers). Presentation is gorgeous, taste is top notch, and the price of their menu is on par with most brunch places. If I were to critique anything, I'd say that sometimes service can be inconsistent (e.g., when they're very busy) and the cleanliness of the floors & downstairs washrooms is ok but could be improved. Despite this, I think the food quality and overall cute motel-themed decor are worth the trip here.
